This study aims to explore the publishing policies and submission guidelines of 110 academic journals covered in the Taiwan Social Sciences Citation Index (TSSCI) during 2018 and 2019. Using document analysis, information regarding academic ethics and copyright are analyzed. The results indicate that most of the journals emphasize manuscript originality. In addition, about 40% of journals clearly indicates that authors are obliged to avoid plagiarism and provide proper and accurate citation. Less than 30% of journals specifically state the obligations and responsibilities of scholarly authors. More than 40% of journals set up regulations for co-authorship. Less than 30% of journals clearly state that authors need to make a conflict-of-interest disclosure. Still a few journals use vague or imprecise legal terms in their policies. Based on the results, this study further provides practical advice in academic publishing. Specific suggestions include providing complete submission instructions and revising them in a timely manner, reviewing journal publishing ethics and operating policy to keep in line with international practices, and formulating regulations in response to the various scholarship and journal publishing movements. All researchers involved in scientific inquiries have an obligation to follow the norms regarding academic ethics to ensure the quality of their research and to gain trust from the public. As the primary funding agency in the Taiwanese government, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan (MOST) has published various academic ethics-related regulations and policies. The MOST also irregularly releases case summaries of academic ethics violations. However, whether Taiwanese researchers fully understand the academic ethics related rules and policies of the MOST remains debatable. In this vein, the present study adopts a survey method, inviting five experts of academic ethics and 232 local researchers (i.e., principal investigators [PIs] of MOST-funded research projects) to explore their (mis)understanding regarding the topics of plagiarism, improper citations, and self-plagiarism through case scenarios. The current results suggest that the participants (both the experts and PIs) do not seem to understand the definitions of the three topics above fully; they also hold different opinions on the credit attributions between advisors’ funded research and students’ dissertations. In conclusion, the results of this study are expected to be used as references for the amendment of current academic ethics-related regulations and policies of the MOST as well as local universities and colleges and research institutions.

Duotai huangu (lit. grabbing the embryo and changing the bones) is an important proposition in classical Chinese poetics. However, in the process of transmission, some recipients are haunted by misunderstandings about its conceptual expression, connotation, and poetic value. These misunderstandings are mainly manifested in five aspects. First, the essence of the method of duotai is "to imitate" rather than "to see through" the original poems. Second, duotai is often erroneously referred to as "tuotai", the meaning of which is fundamentally different from that of duotai. Third, duotai and huangu are two correlated poetic methods separated by the degree of innovation. The conflation of duotai and huangu in fact blurs the boundary between them. Fourth, duotai huangu is neither a thorough plagiarism nor a real innovation, but an astute imitation. Fifth, duotai huangu is not the ultimate way to learn poetic writing, but simply a preliminary technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is necessary for the quality control process of university graduation thesis to check papers repetition rate. For the condition that the weight checking system by the Internet is extreme sometimes, this paper proposed a new comprehensive approach including the manual detection because the related Internet system was not fully trustable. The goal was to reduce miscarriage of justice and get the chance to submit papers that were not copied and plagiarized. When it detected the repetition rate of the same papers which in different sites had a huge difference, this method adopted a comprehensive weight checking method. The proposed method added artificial judgments to the repeated results and reduced the impact of the website . As a result, the checking results were not completely controlled by website or manual work. The website and artificial double hybrid detection of papers makes up the influence of the website resource library on the result of checking the weight, and improves the accuracy and credibility of the checking result. Historiographic metafiction is referred as a metafiction that relates historic events in a poetic language. Since 1970s, analytical philosophy of history becomes to dominate historic field by replacing speculative historicism, which contends that history itself is a discipline with ambiguity and variation. Historic philosophy embodies analytical philosophy of history and reconstructs the relationship between history and literature through intertextuality and postmodernity. What is more, historiographic metafiction reconstructs historic events and discloses variable historic possibilities, which amounts to literature innovation. But historiographic metafiction, much impacted by neo-historicism and deconstructionism, contains a tendency of historic nihilism. Especially in China, historiographic metafiction possibly blemishes cultural confidence fostering and its narrative intertextuality is so over-referring the existing structure and plots that it sometimes amounts to a kind of plagiarism. Cross-language plagiarism has always been the hardest hit for academic misbehavior. It is also a behavior that is extremely difficult to spot. Cross-language plagiarism detection and identification technology is the most urgent technology that needed to be developed. It is also the biggest technical difficulty in the field of plagiarism. Based on the summary and analysis of current researches on the monolingual plagiarism detection and cross-language plagiarism detection, aiming at the existing problem of cross-language plagiarism detection, this paper proposed a cross-language plagiarism detection technology based on fingerprint fusion. This paper also carried out experimental verification on the plagiarism set of artificial building. Before the implementation of outcrops of forward-looking engineering research works, the carrier of knowledge is word, which gives challenge to the protection of knowledge for individual or a group of individuals in terms of cross-major, cross-disciplinary and multi-teams cooperation. In this paper, we investigated and analyzed the literature related to plagiarism and acknowledgment, and put forward the idea of acknowledgment methods for such research results. Main findings: 1) attention should be paid to tell the contribution of finding and defining the problems; 2) plan in-advance the outcrops attribution for various specialized team, and further dynamically adjust the plan; 3) using modern techniques can help improve acknowledgement efficiency; 4) the development of high-efficient knowledge solidification mode help accelerate the circulation and growth of knowledge. The Internet makes new learning opportunities possible for children by offering vast amount of resources and powerful communication means Oftentimes, the Internet is the first resource children choose for information seeking. Other than schoolwork related resources,the Internet. contains unlimited interesting and entertaining information for children. As going online becomes a favorite pastime for millions of children,teachers and parents need to caution children about the negative side of the Internet. They need to teach children online safety and responsibility, and further,monitor their online behaviors. The article, first, discusses the possible threats to childrens online safety, including potential sex offenders, pornographic materials,and unethical marketing tactics aimed at children. Then, it addresses unethical and irresponsible behaviors, such as plagiarism, spamming, and hacking, which are committed or may be committed by children. Finally, the article explains how teachers and parents can help children become responsible and ethical Internet users.

The article considers the similarities between the books "Military Planning" by Cai E and "Military Basics," by Jiang Fangzhen. Cai's book was published in 1943 and Jiang's in 1917. Liu Wuda discovered the plagiarism that appears in Cai's book. Liu was an admirer of Cai's and collected his writings. The article compares passages from the books in order to demonstrate that plagiarism was committed. According to the author, Cai never discussed Jiang's work and even after his death, those who were close to him did not discuss it.

Nowadays the phenomenon of academic misconduct (such as plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, etc.) is very frequent. The reasons for academic misconduct are involved in the problems in graduate education system, social environment and students themselves. Therefore, colleges and universities should place great emphasis on constructing a healthy school environment and academic atmosphere for failure tolerance with the help of high-tech modern means. It also needs to improve the academic supervision and evaluation system, strengthen the punishments for academic misconduct and enhance the mentor's exemplary role in education. The eventual goal for our education is to obtain innovative talents who are integrity, respect science and truth, and are good samples for academic performances.
