Objective To investigate the mechanism of psychological capital and perceived organizational support in the influence of workplace violence on pediatric nurses’ burnout. Methods By convenience sampling method, 417 pediatric nurses in a tertiary children’s hospital in Shanxi Province were surveyed with the questionnaires from April to May 2022, including the Workplace Violence Scale, the Psychological Capital Scale, the Perceived Organizational Support Scale, and the Occupational Burnout Scale. Differences in job burnout among pediatric nurses with different demographic characteristics were compared. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to examine the correlations among the scores of each scale. The Bootstrap method was used to verify the mediating effects between variables. Results The prevalence of job burnout among these pediatric nurses was 66.91% (279/417). Statistically significant differences in job burnout scores were found among pediatric nurses with different ages, marital statuses, employment types, average daily working hours, average monthly incomes, and working departments (P < 0.05). The pediatric nurses aged 31 -40 years, married, informally employed, working in the emergency department, having longer average daily working hours, and earning lower average monthly incomes had higher levels of job burnout. Workplace violence was negatively correlated with psychological capital (r = - 0.269, P < 0.01) and perceived organizational support (r = - 0.303, P < 0.01), and positively correlated with job burnout (r = 0.418, P < 0.01). Psychological capital (r = - 0.543, P < 0.01) and perceived organizational support (r = - 0.543, P < 0.01) were negatively correlated with job burnout, while psychological capital was positively correlated with perceived organizational support (r = 0.488, P < 0.01). Mediation effect analysis showed that the indirect effects of perceived organizational support and psychological capital as single mediators and as chained mediators were significant, with the mediating effect values of 0.095, 0.044, and 0.043 accounting for 22.51%, 10.42%, and 10.18% of the total effect, respectively. Conclusions Pediatric nurses had a high level of job burnout. Workplace violence affected job burnout through the mediating roles of psychological capital and perceived organizational support, as well as their chained mediating effect. Hospital administrators should improve pediatric nurses’ psychological capital and perceived organizational support to alleviate the impact of workplace violence on job burnout. Objective To explore the effect of APN scheduling method based on nurse level management on job burnout and competence of pediatric responsible nurses. Method The department of pediatrics of Nantong Second People's hospital began to implement nurse-level management and APN scheduling method in January of 2019. The nurses at different levels were reasonably matched, and the children were treated with responsibility system. The changes of nurses' job burnout and competence before and after the implementation of APN scheduling method were investigated and compared. Results After the implementation of hierarchical management and APN scheduling method, the emotional exhaustion and depersonalization scores of nurses' job burnout were significantly lower than before the implementation (all P <0. 05), and the personal achievement scores were significantly higher than before the implementation (P < 0. 05). The scores of all indicators of nurse job competence were significantly higher than before the implementation (all P < 0. 05). Conclusion The use of nurse level management and APN scheduling method can effectively reduce the job burnout of pediatric responsible nurses and promote the improvement of nurses' job competence. Although, as eloquently stated by Swiss developmental psychologist Jean Piaget, "Children are not miniature adults" (Piaget, 2001), it remains common in pediatric clinical nursing practice to encounter viewpoints such as "Be patient and it will pass!" and "Is it really that bad?" as well as insensitive comments such as "Cry again, and I'll..." Dealing with children and their families during invasive treatments is a daily challenge as well as source of fulfillment for pediatric nurses. The concept of child-friendly care centers on providing support and care that addresses the needs of both the child and family to help them adapt to various situations within the healthcare environment (Lookabaugh & Ballard, 2018). Child-friendly healthcare must be grounded in the recognition of children's rights, which includes the right to health and the right to healthcare (Lenton & Ehrich, 2015). Strategies, policies, and environmental transformations are necessary to translate this concept into practice. One related strategy commonly used in pediatric nursing practice is therapeutic play, which encompasses instructional, cathartic, and physical health promotion categories (Hockenberry et al., 2023). By engaging in therapeutic play, hospitalized children can better comprehend the tests or treatments they are about to undergo, alleviate their fear and pain, and develop healthier behaviors. It is also crucial to approach long-debated issues such as whether children and adolescents should visit family members in intensive care units from a child-friendly perspective. German scholars Brauchle et al. (2023) proposed recommendations for child-friendly visitation policies that consider the prerequisites and responsibilities of medical staff, parents, and children. In recent years, Taiwan has made great strides in integrating child life specialists and art and music therapists into hospital medical teams. This inclusion is helping families better adapt to the medical environment and better cope with medical and treatment situations, fostering more-positive medical and nursing experiences (Fang et al., 2020). Furthermore, reconstructing the medical environment for children; designing safe and healing spaces (Chang, 2021); and providing overall-friendly physical, psychological, social, and spiritual care to children and their families are essential. Each of the three topics in this column reflect the relationships between pediatric emergency nurses and, respectively, patients, and the healing functions of music therapy and art therapy, and provide important insights into the world of children through the lens of child-friendly care. Background: The effectiveness of early detection and intervention is emphasized in child development. The knowledge and attitudes of pediatric nurses related to child development is a factor critical to identifying and helping disabled children. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore general pediatric nurse knowledge of young child development and attitudes and behavior toward child developmental care. Methods: Researchers collected data for this descriptive study using a structured questionnaire and recruited a sample of 112 pediatric nurses from hospitals in Central Taiwan. Data was analyzed by Mean, Pearson correlation, ANOVA, and Logistic regression. Results: The study revealed pediatric nurses have a good level of knowledge related to children development. Although most participants held positive attitudes toward early intervention and child developmental care, their related behaviors were inadequately reported. Predictive factors of child developmental care behavior in nurses included attending related courses and number of children that has. Conclusion: Child development-related programs are an important factor affecting nurse child developmental care behavior. The authors recommend establishing developmental care programs and encouraging nurse participation.
