In rice-vegetable rotation systems in tropical areas, a large amount of nitrate nitrogen accumulates after fertilization in the melon and vegetable season, which leads to the leaching of nitrate nitrogen and a large amount of N 2 O emission after the seasonal flooding of rice, which leads to nitrogen loss and intensification of the greenhouse effect. How to improve the utilization rate of nitrate nitrogen and reduce N 2 O emissions has become an urgent problem to be solved. Six treatments were set up [200 mg·kg -1 KNO 3 (CK); 200 mg·kg -1 KNO 3 + 2% biochar addition (B); 200 mg·kg -1 KNO 3 +1% peanut straw addition (P); 200 mg·kg -1 KNO 3 + 2% biochar + 1% peanut straw addition (P+B); 200 mg·kg -1 KNO 3 + 1% rice straw addition (R); 200 mg·kg -1 KNO 3 + 2% biochar+1% rice straw addition (R+B)] and cultured at 25℃ for 114 d to explore the effects of organic material addition on greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen use after flooding in high nitrate nitrogen soil. The results showed that compared with that in CK, adding straw or combining straw with biochar significantly increased soil pH ( P <0.05). The B and P treatments significantly increased the cumulative N 2 O emissions by 41.6% and 28.5% ( P <0.05), and the P+B, R, and R+B treatments significantly decreased the cumulative N 2 O emissions by 14.1%, 24.7%, and 36.7% ( P <0.05), respectively. The addition of straw increased the net warming potential of greenhouse gases (NGWP). The addition of coir biochar significantly reduced the effect of straw on NGWP ( P <0.05). The combined application of straw and biochar decreased NGWP, and P+B significantly decreased NGWP, but that with R+B was not significant ( P >0.05). Adding straw or biochar significantly increased soil microbial biomass carbon (MBC) ( P <0.05), and that of P+B was the highest (502.26 mg·kg -1 ). The combined application of straw and biochar increased soil microbial biomass nitrogen (MBN), and that of P+B was the highest. The N 2 O emission flux was negatively correlated with pH ( P <0.01) and positively correlated with NH 4 + -N and NO 3 - -N ( P <0.01). The cumulative emission of N 2 O was negatively correlated with MBN ( P <0.05). There was a significant negative correlation between NO 3 - -N and MBN ( P <0.01), indicating that the reduction in NO 3 - -N was likely to be held by microorganisms, and the increase in the microbial hold of NO 3 - -N also reduced N 2 O emission. In conclusion, the combined application of peanut straw and coconut shell biochar could significantly inhibit N 2 O emission and increase soil MBC and MBN, which is a reasonable measure to make full use of nitrogen fertilizer, reduce nitrogen loss, and slow down N 2 O emission after the season of Hainan vegetables.

In this study， a field experiment was conducted to examine the effects of the application of irrigation water containing Zn at the key growth period （booting stage and filling stage） on exchangeable Cd content in the soil， Cd concentration in pore water， and Cd uptake and transport in rice in a Cd-contaminated paddy field in Liuyang City， Hunan Province. The results indicated that： ① the application of irrigation water containing Zn during the key growth period could inhibit the releasing process of exchangeable Cd from the soil into pore water. Compared with that in the control， the content of exchangeable Cd in soil was slightly changed， but the concentration of Cd in soil pore water at the mature stage was significantly reduced by 16.7%-57.6%. ② The application of irrigation water containing Zn at the key growth period could significantly reduce the Cd content in various parts of rice. Cd contents in root， stem， and brown rice with the application of irrigation water containing 20 mg·L -1 Zn before the booting and the filling stage （BF1） were significantly decreased by 56.0%， 83.8%， and 85.2%， respectively. ③ Compared with the application of 100 mg·L -1 irrigation water containing Zn， the application of 20 mg·L -1 irrigation water containing Zn significantly reduced the uptake and transport of Cd in rice， and the translocation factor （TF） of Cd from rice roots to stems was also significantly reduced by 12.5%-56.3%， with the B1 and BF1 treatments reaching significant levels. These results suggested that the application of irrigation water containing Zn could significantly reduce the uptake and accumulation of Cd in rice， and the application of 20 mg·L -1 irrigation water containing Zn before the booting and filling stage could effectively realize the safe production of Cd-contaminated paddy fields.

In order to study the safe utilization of acid cadmium （Cd） contaminated soil， light and moderate Cd-contaminated farmland in Shangluo， Shaanxi Province was taken as the research object， and lime， biochar， and calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer were applied. Through the wheat-maize rotation experiment， the safe utilization effect of different amounts of passivator on Cd-contaminated soil was explored， and the best ratio of passivator was selected. The results showed that： ① the soil quality could be improved to varying degrees by applying the passivator. ② After the application of amendments， the grain yield of wheat and maize increased to different degrees. ③ The lime 2 340 kg·hm -2 （C3） treatment had the best effect， which increased the soil pH of wheat and corn by 1.453 and 1.717 units， respectively， and reduced the available Cd content by 34.38% and 30.20%， respectively. ④ The application of biochar 1 800 kg·hm -2 （B2） treatment had the best effect on reducing the Cd contents in wheat roots， straws， and grains， which were significantly reduced by 53.60%， 38.86%， and 52.96%， respectively， compared with that in CK. The Cd content in wheat grains was reduced to 0.09 mg·kg -1 ， which was lower than the limit value of wheat Cd （0.1 mg·kg -1 ） specified in the "National food safety standard food pollutant limit" （GB 2762-2017）. The application of the biochar 1 260 kg·hm -2 （B1） treatment had the best comprehensive effect on reducing the Cd contents of maize roots， straws， and grains， which were significantly reduced by 43.74%， 53.20%， and 94.57%， respectively， compared with that in CK. The Cd content of maize grains was reduced to 0.001 9 mg·kg -1 ， which was far lower than the limit value of maize Cd （0.1 mg·kg -1 ） specified in the "National food safety standard food pollutant limit" （GB 2762-2017）. Therefore， under the conditions of the field experiment， considering the influence of various indexes， biochar had the best effect on farmland soil in the wheat-maize rotation area with mild to moderate Cd pollution.

The effects of biochar application on soil nitrous oxide （N 2 O） and methane （CH 4 ） emissions in a typical rice-vegetable rotation system in Hainan after two years were investigated. The aim was to clarify the long-term effects of biochar on greenhouse gas emissions under this model， and it provided a theoretical basis for N 2 O and CH 4 emission reduction in rice-vegetable rotation systems in tropical regions of China. Four treatments were set up in the field experiment， including no nitrogen fertilizer control （CK）； nitrogen， phosphorus， and potassium fertilizer （CON）； nitrogen， phosphorus， and potassium fertilizer combined with 20 t·hm -2 biochar （B1）； and nitrogen， phosphorus， and potassium fertilizer combined with 40 t·hm -2 biochar （B2）. The results showed that： ① compared with that in the CON treatment， the B1 and B2 treatments significantly reduced N 2 O emissions by 32% and 54% in the early rice season （ P &lt; 0.05， the same below）， but the B1 and B2 treatments significantly increased N 2 O emissions by 31% and 81% in the late rice season. The cumulative emissions of N 2 O in the pepper season were significantly higher than those in the early and late rice seasons， and the B1 treatment significantly reduced N 2 O emissions by 35%. There was no significant difference between the B2 and CON treatments. ② Compared with that in the CON treatment， B1 and B2 significantly reduced CH 4 emissions by 63% and 65% in the early rice season， and the B2 treatment significantly increased CH 4 emissions by 41% in the late rice season. There was no significant difference between the B1 and CON treatments. There was no significant difference in cumulative CH 4 emissions between treatments in the pepper season. ③ The late rice season contributed to the main global warming potential （GWP） of the rice-vegetable rotation system， and CH 4 emissions determined the magnitude of GWP and greenhouse gas emission intensity （GHGI）. After two years of biochar application， B1 reduced the GHGI of the whole rice-vegetable rotation system， and B2 increased the GHGI and reached a significant level. However， the B1 and B2 treatments significantly reduced GHGI in the early rice season and pepper season， and only the B2 treatment increased GHGI in the late rice season. ④ Compared with that in the CON treatment， the B1 and B2 treatments significantly increased the yield of early rice by 33% and 51%， and the B1 and B2 treatments significantly increased the yield of pepper season by 53% and 81%. In the late rice season， there was no significant difference in yield except for in the CK treatment without nitrogen fertilizer. The results showed that the magnitude of greenhouse gas emissions in the tropical rice-vegetable rotation system was mainly determined by CH 4 emissions in the late rice season. After two years of biochar application， only low biochar combined with nitrogen fertilizer had a significant emission reduction effect， but high and low biochar combined with nitrogen fertilizer increased the yield of early rice and pepper crops continuously.

In this study, we sought to quantify the effect of planting structure change on fertilizer input and environmental cost in Chongqing and develop scientific and rational strategies for chemical fertilizer reduction. Based on the crop fertilizer quota standard and large sample farmer survey data under the medium productivity level in Chongqing, we evaluated and analyzed the application reduction potential and environmental benefits of fertilizer with the difference method and life cycle assessment. The results showed that:① since Chongqing became a municipality directly under the central government (1997), Chongqing crop planting structure had greatly changed, and the proportion of food crop (rice, corn, wheat, bean, and potato) decreased by 21%. The area of fruits and vegetables increased from 3.36×10 5 hm 2 to 1.05×10 6 hm 2 , and their proportion increased by 20%. ② Nearly 55% of fertilizers had been consumed by vegetable (37%) and citrus production systems, and 11%, 12%, and 12% of fertilizers were consumed by rice, corn, and potato, respectively. ③ The total fertilizer reduction of the Chongqing planting industry could reach up to 1.69×10 5 tons during the period of "the 14th Five-Year Plan," with a fertilizer reduction potential of 18.6%. The fertilizer reduction potential (reduction amount) of rice, corn, citrus, and vegetables would reach 0.3% (2.9×10 2 tons), 12% (1.45×10 4 tons), 21% (3.65×10 4 tons), and 30% (1.18×10 5 tons), respectively. On the other hand, the rape system was insufficient in phosphorus potassium fertilizers, and the corn tended to be insufficient in potash fertilizer. ④ The current production level was low, and the nitrogen loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and eutrophication potential in the planting industry of Chongqing reached 1.81×10 5 tons (N), 1.43×10 7 tons (CO 2 -eq), and 1.74×10 5 tons (PO 4 -eq). With the increase in the realization degree of the crop quota standard (60%-100%), the reactive nitrogen loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and eutrophication potential decreased by 14.9%-24.9%, 10.1%-16.7%, and 13.8%-23%, respectively. The structure of the planting industry in Chongqing significantly changed, the total fertilizer consumption in Chongqing tended to decline gradually, and the fertilization intensity of commercial crops stayed at a high level. The agricultural fertilizer reduction potential and the reactive nitrogen and greenhouse gas emission reduction potential were large, especially for citrus and vegetable production systems. However, it is also necessary to pay attention to insufficient corn potash fertilizer and rape phosphorus potassium fertilizer investment and carry out collaborative promotion of fertilizer reduction.

In this study, iron-calcium material (FC) and hickory-cattail biochar (BC) were applied to prepare composite material (BF), which was used to repair the combined pollution of cadmium and arsenic in paddy soil to reduce the content of cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) in rice grain. Soil pore water, rhizosphere soil, bulk soil, rice plants, and root iron plaque samples were collected during the growth period of rice in a pot experiment to explore the effects and mechanism of FC, BC, and BF on the bioavailability of Cd and As in paddy soil and their contents in plants. The results showed that biochar could significantly ( P &lt; 0.05) increase the pH value of bulk soil (0.55-0.66 units) and rhizosphere soil (0.28-0.36 units) and elevate the soil dissolved organic carbon (DOC) content. FC material could significantly ( P &lt; 0.05) reduce the pH of bulk soil (0.14-0.27 units) and rhizosphere soil (0.38-0.41 units), as well as the soil DOC content. Iron-calcium materials and composite could simultaneously reduce the contents of available Cd and As in soil pore water, rhizosphere soil, and bulk soil, whereas biochar could reduce the content of Cd but increase the content of As. Among them, a 1% addition of composite had the best effect. The available Cd and As in soil decreased by 41.8%-48.2% and 6.1%-10.1%, respectively. Biochar, iron-calcium materials, and composites improved plant biomass (dry weight of root, stem, leaf, and grain). For example, the dry weights of rice grains under these treatments were higher (48.5%-184.0%) than that of CK, as was the root iron plaque content (7.5%-13.6%). Compared with that in the CK, biochar could effectively reduce the Cd content in rice grain by 21.0%-26.1%. Iron-calcium material and composite could simultaneously reduce the Cd and As contents in rice grain. Among them, the BF treatment had the best effect on the reduction of Cd and As in rice grain, with a decrease of 36.9%-42.0% and 40.4%-44.4%, respectively. The Cd and As contents in rice grain were lower than the national standard values (GB 2762-2017).

Agricultural utilization of reclaimed water is considered to be an effective way to solve water shortage and reduce water environmental pollution. Silicon fertilizer can improve crop yield and quality and enhance crop resistance. The effect of foliar spray with silicon fertilizer on phyllosphere microbial communities remains lacking. In this study, a pot experiment was conducted to explore the effects of different types of silicon fertilizer on the composition and diversity of a phyllosphere bacterial community and the abundances of related functional genes in rice irrigated with reclaimed water. The results showed that Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota, and Verrucomicrobiota dominated the phyllosphere bacteria of rice. The relative abundance of Bacillus was higher than that of other treatments in RIS3. Reclaimed water irrigation significantly increased the relative abundances of the potential pathogens Pantoea and Enterobacter . The unclassified bacteria were also an important part of the bacterial community in the rice phyllosphere. Bacillus , Exiguobacterium , Aeromonas , and Citrobacter were significantly enriched by silicon fertilizer treatments. Functional prediction analysis showed that indicator species were mainly involved in metabolism and degradation functions, and the predicted functional groups of phyllosphere bacteria were attributed to chemoheterotrophy, aerobic chemoheterotrophy, nitrate reduction, and fermentation. Quantitative PCR results showed that AOA, AOB, and nifH genes were at low abundance levels in all treatments, and nirK genes was not significantly different among treatments. These results contribute to the in-depth understanding of the effects of foliar spray silicon fertilizer on the bacterial community structure and diversity of rice phyllosphere and provide a theoretical basis for the application of silicon fertilizer in reclaimed water irrigation agriculture.

Rice is widely cultivated over a large climate spanin China, and thereby its growing environments vary greatly. Two main systems of rice cropping arethe double-season rice (early rice and late rice) and single-season rice (middle rice). In Norther China,only single-seasonrice is cultivated, whereas, inSouthern China,both can be cultivated due to the moderate climate. In different cultivars and environments, the ORYZA(v3) model has been widely used for rice growing simulation, while the model has been calibrated and validated in the world. The ORYZA(v3) model is the latest version updated from the ORYZA2000, by integrating new modules and routines to quantify daily dynamics of soil temperature, carbon, nitrogen, and environmental stresses.This model has been significantly improved with enhanced capability to simulate rice growth, development, and yield formation under non-stressed, water stressed, and nitrogen stressed conditions. Many studies have been conducted for the sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of parameters in the ORYZA model series. However, the temporal and spatial characteristics of parameter sensitivities in the model are still unclear. In this study, 18 typical sites were selected from 16 rice cultivation sub-regions in China, and a global sensitivity analysis for each site was conducted for 16 crop parameters in the ORYZA(v3) model over 30 years (1986-2015) using the Extended FAST method.Theoutput variables were set as the leaf area index (LAI), dry weight of stems (WST), total aboveground dry matter (WAGT), and dry weight of storage organs (WSO) at four development stages (the basic vegetative, photoperiod-sensitive, the panicle-formation, and grain-filling phase). The 30-year means and standard deviations of total sensitivity indices and interaction indices of each model parameters were calculated for the output variables at different growing stages under different environments. The correlations between parameter sensitivities and meteorological factors were analyzedto explore the impacts factors of model parameter sensitivities. The results showed that the total sensitivity indices and interaction indices greatly varied with different growing stages, different rice regimes, and different sites. Moreover, the differences were especially obvious in those sites, such as Dali, Yinchuan, and Mudanjiang,particularly onthe high altitude or special climate conditions, comparing to other typical sites. In the selected parameters, the sensitivities of parameters RGRLMX, SPGF and WGRMX were strongly influenced by the environment than others, thus their calibration need to be paid more attention. Correlation analysis indicated that the global sensitivity indices of model parameters wassimilar and significant correlations with daily maximum temperature, daily minimum temperature, and cumulative temperature within rice growing period. However, the sensitivity of model parameters cannot show a single pattern of variation in space,due to the integrated impacts of altitude, latitude and other factors on local climate conditions at the typical sites. In some typical sites, such as Dali and Mudanjiang, the RGRLMX has very high sensitivity, while the others were insensitive or little sensitive, indicating that the model may have some imperfections leading some limitation of applications in those areas with cold weather during rice growing period. [Objective]The purpose of this paper is to establish the foundation of protoplasts culture, cell fusion and cell re-differentiation of Yunnan Oryza meyeriana Baill. [Method]The yield and vitality of the protoplasts with different concentrations of enzymatic hydrolysis, enzymatic concentration, enzymolysis time and osmotic stabilizer concentration were determined. The optimal system for protoplast isolation and cultivation of Yunnan Oryza meyeriana Baill. were screened. [Result]The results showed that the period of the established embryogenic suspension cell lines of Yunnan Oryza meyeriana Baill. could be shortened to 45-60 days. The yield and vitality of protoplast was up to 1. 45×106/g·FW and 90. 17 %, respectively, under the condition of 1. 5 % cellulase +0. 3 % pectinase +0. 6 M mannitol+5 mM MES+5 mM CaCl2, enzyme hydrolysis for 2 hours. Moreover, regenerated plants could be obtained from the protoplast of Yunnan Oryza meyeriana Baill. under solid-liquid culture. [Conclusion]A system for rapid isolation and cultivation of protoplasts from Yunnan Oryza meyeriana Baill. was established, which is of great significance for the studies of important plant resource, germplasm innovation and the discovery of its excellent gene. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of different sulfur fertilizers combined with sulfate-reducing bacteria on the accumulation of cadmium and arsenic in rice and the formation of iron plaque under long-term flooding conditions and to provide a reference for the safe production of rice fields polluted by moderate and mild cadmium and arsenic. We adopted a pot experiment, selecting two sulfur fertilizers, sulfur and calcium sulfate, and Enterobacter M5 with sulfate-reducing ability, and designed six treatments of single application and combined application of different sulfur fertilizers and M5. The results showed that the combined application of calcium sulfate and M5(CM5) had the best effect on reducing available cadmium and arsenic in rice rhizosphere soil. The combined application of sulfur fertilizer or M5 could reduce the content of cadmium and inorganic arsenic in early season rice grains by 8%-51% and 42%-61%, respectively, under flooding conditions. The content of cadmium and inorganic arsenic in late rice grains decreased by 81%-92% and 41%-62%, respectively. The treatment of the combined application of sulfur and M5(SM5) and CM5 had the best effect on reducing cadmium and arsenic content in both early and late season rice grains. SM5 and CM5 could promote the adsorption of cadmium and arsenic by iron plaque, and the extracted cadmium and arsenic content of ACA in both treatments was significantly higher than that of CK. The extracted iron content of ACA in the CM5 treatment was also significantly higher than that of CK, which indicates that the combined application of calcium sulfate and M5 would promote the formation of iron plaque. The results showed that the combined application of sulfur fertilizer and M5 was better than single application in reducing the content of cadmium and arsenic in grains, whereas the combined application of calcium sulfate and M5 was the best and most stable method.

This study compared the changes in chemical components during the processing of different types of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata(ALRP) in &quot;Jianchang&quot; faction, i.e., dried ginger-steamed ALRP pieces(Yin-FP), sand-fried ALRP pieces(Yang-FP), and rice swill water-bleached ALRP pieces(DFP), and provided a scientific basis for the mechanism in toxicity reduction and efficacy enhancement from a compositional perspective. Samples were collected during the processing of the three types of ALRP pieces, yielding raw ALRP pieces, water-bleached Yin-FP, ginger juice-moistened Yin-FP, steamed Yin-FP, water-bleached Yang-FP, sand-fried Yang-FP, water-bleached DFP, rice swill water-bleached DFP, and roasted DFP. Aconitine, mesaconitine, hypaconitine, benzoylaconine, benzoylmesaconine, benzoylhypaconine, aconine, mesaconine, hypaconine, salsolinol, fuziline, and higenamine in the extracts were determined by UPLC-MS/MS, and then content analysis and cluster heatmap analysis were performed on 11 sets of samples. During the processing of the three types of ALRP pieces, bleaching significantly reduced the content of 12 alkaloids; steaming, stir-frying, and roasting significantly reduced the content of diester-type alkaloids(aconitine, mesaconitine, and hypaconitine) and significantly increased the content of monoester-type alkaloids(benzoylaconine, benzoylmesaconine, and benzoylhypaconine) and aminoalcohol-type alkaloids(aconine, mesaconine, and hypaconine). During the processing of Yin-FP, the diester-type alkaloids continuously decreased, while the monoester-type and aminoalcohol-type alkaloids showed an initial decrease followed by an increase. During the processing of Yin-FP, Yang-FP, and DFP, the diester-type alkaloids continuously decreased, while the monoester-type and aminoalcohol-type alkaloids showed an initial decrease followed by an increase. Steamed Yin-FP showed a higher increase in content than fried Yang-FP and roasted DFP. Comprehensive analysis of content differences in toxic and therapeutic components in three ALRP pieces suggests that the distinctive processing methods in &quot;Jianchang&quot; faction can indeed achieve detoxification and efficacy enhancement on ALRP. This study provides references for understanding the mechanisms of action of the three processing methods.

The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is one of main grain production areas in China, which is of great significance to food security. Understanding the carbon footprint of major grain crop production is helpful to develop high-yield and low-carbon agriculture. Based on the data of yield, sown area and farmland production input of main grain crops (rice, wheat and maize) in six provinces (Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, and Zhejiang) in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River from 2011 to 2020, we estimated carbon footprint in the production of the three grain crops. The results showed that from 2011 to 2020, yield per unit area, planting area, and total yield of rice, wheat and maize were the highest in Jiangsu Province. In terms of area-scaled carbon footprint, rice in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River had the highest area-scaled carbon footprint, with an average of 2.0 t CE·hm -2 , followed by wheat and maize. The area-scaled carbon footprint of the three staple crops was increasing. In terms of yield-scaled carbon footprint, rice was the highest, with an average of 0.8 kg CE·kg -1 , followed by wheat and maize. In terms of carbon input structure, irrigation electricity, chemical fertilizers and pesticides accounted for a relatively high proportion. Irrigation electricity accounted for 35.0%, 36.3%, and 33.2% of the total carbon input of rice, wheat and maize, respectively. Chemical fertilizers accounted for 28.8%, 32.5%, and 32.5%, respectively, while pesticides accounted for 24.2%, 13.3% and 11.5%, respectively. In terms of carbon efficiency, maize had the highest (3.9 kg·kg -1 CE), followed by rice and wheat. With the green development of agriculture, carbon emission in the production of major grain crops in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River could be reduced by improving irrigation efficiency, fertilizer utilization efficiency, pesticide utilization efficiency and mechanized operation efficiency, as well as diversification of straw returning, cultivation of new varieties and policy leverage.

In field conditions, a micro-aerobic layer with 1 cm thickness exists on the surface layer of paddy soil owing to the diffusion of dissolved oxygen via flooding water. However, the particularity of carbon and nitrogen transformation in this specific soil layer is not clear. A typical subtropical paddy soil was collected and incubated with 13 C-labelled rice straw for 100 days. The responses of exogenous fresh organic carbon( 13 C-rice straw) and original soil organic carbon mineralization to nitrogen fertilizer addition[(NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ]in the micro-aerobic layer(0-1 cm) and anaerobic layer(1-5 cm) of paddy soil and their microbial processes were analyzed based on the analysis of 13 C incorporation into phospholipid fatty acid( 13 C-PLFAs). Nitrogen addition promoted the total CO 2 and 13 C-CO 2 emission from paddy soil by 11.4% and 12.3%, respectively. At the end of incubation, with the addition of nitrogen, the total soil organic carbon (SOC) and 13 C-recovery rate from rice straw in the anaerobic layer were 2.4% and 9.2% lower than those in the corresponding micro-aerobic layer, respectively. At the early stage(5 days), nitrogen addition increased the total microbial PLFAs in the anaerobic layer with a consistent response of bacterial and fungal PLFAs. However, there was no significant effect from nitrogen on microbial abundance in the micro-aerobic layer. Nitrogen addition had no significant impact on the abundance of total 13 C-PLFAs in the micro-aerobic and anaerobic layers, but the abundance of 13 C-PLFAs for bacteria and fungi in the micro-aerobic layer was decreased dramatically. At the late stage(100 days), the effect of nitrogen addition on microbial PLFAs was consistent with that at the early stage. The abundances of total, bacterial, and fungal 13 C-PLFAs were remarkably increased in the anaerobic layer. However, the abundance of 13 C-PLFAs in the micro-aerobic layer showed no significant response to nitrogen addition. During the incubation, the content of NH 4 + -N in the anaerobic soil layer was higher than that in the micro-aerobic soil layer. This indicates that nitrogen addition increased microbial activity in the anaerobic soil layer caused by the higher NH 4 + -N concentration, as majority of microorganisms preferred to use NH 4 + -N. Consequently, the microbial utilization and decomposition of organic carbon in the anaerobic soil layer were accelerated. By contrast, richer available N existed in the form of NO 3 - -N in the micro-aerobic soil layer owing to the ammoxidation process. Thus, the shortage of NO 3 - -N preference microorganisms in the paddy soil environment prohibited the microbial metabolism of organic carbon in the micro-aerobic layer. As a whole, nitrogen fertilization enhanced organic carbon loss via microbial mineralization in paddy soil with a weaker effect in the micro-aerobic layer than that in the anaerobic layer, indicating the limited microbial metabolic activity in the surface micro-aerobic layer could protect the organic carbon stabilization in paddy soil. This study emphasizes the heterogeneity of paddy soil and its significant particularity of carbon and nitrogen transformation in micro-aerobic layers. Consequently, this study has implications for optimizing the forms and method for the application of nitrogen fertilizer in paddy cropping systems.

To explore the effects of different aeration methods on the abundance of microorganisms and microorganism community structure in rice rhizosphere soil, two rice varieties, Miyang 46(MY) and Zhenshan 97B(ZS), were used with three aeration treatments:alternate wetting and drying(AWD), continuous flooding and aeration(CFA), and continuous flooding(CF). The diversity of bacterial and fungal communities in rice rhizosphere soil was analyzed using Illumina MiSeq high-throughput sequencing. Soil physical and chemical factors were also analyzed. The results showed that the dominant bacterial communities in rice rhizosphere soil were Chloroflexi, Actinobaciota, Acidobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Firmicutes, and the dominant fungal communities were Ascomycota and Basidiomycota in rice rhizosphere soil. At each growth stage, the relative abundance of Chloroflexi and Acidobacteria was higher in the AWD treatment than in the other treatments, and the relative abundance of Actinobaciota was higher in the CFA treatment than in the other treatments. The relative abundance of Firmicutes was lower in the AWD treatment than in the other treatments. Aeration methods affected the diversity and richness of rhizosphere microbial species. For example, the diversity of bacterial species was higher, and the richness of bacterial species was lower in the AWD treatment than that in the other treatments. The diversity and richness of fungal species were higher in the AWD and CFA treatments than those in the CF treatment. The physical and chemical properties of rhizosphere soil were also affected by aeration method. The soil redox potential(Eh) was the highest in AWD, followed by that in CFA and CF, and significant differences were observed among treatments. The NO 3 - -N content was significantly higher, and the NH 4 + -N content was significantly lower in the AWD and CFA treatments than in the CF treatment in rhizosphere soil at all growth stages. Correlation analysis showed that the pH and Eh of rhizosphere soil were positively correlated with the diversity of bacterial species, negatively correlated with the richness of bacterial species, and positively correlated with the diversity and richness of fungal species. Redundancy analysis indicated that the relative abundance of Chloroflexi was positively correlated with the pH and NH 4 + -N content at each period, positively correlated with the Eh and NO 3 - -N content at the tillering and heading stages, and negatively correlated with Eh and NO 3 - -N content at the maturity stage. At each growth stage, the pH and Eh were positively correlated with the relative abundance of Acidobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Basidiomycota and negatively correlated with the relative abundance of Firmicutes and Ascomycota. During the entire growth period, the relative abundance of Ascomycota was negatively correlated with the NO 3 - -N content and positively correlated with the NH 4 + -N content, and the opposite patterns were observed for the relative abundance of Basidiomycota. In summary, rhizosphere oxygenation enhanced the soil oxygen environment, altered soil physical and chemical properties, and affected microbial community diversity and richness to optimize microbial community structure.

To evaluate the ecological risk of heavy metals in the soil-crop system in the superimposed high background and human activities from pyrite mining, the heavy metal contents and chemical speciation in soil and crop samples were analyzed, and these data were used to assess the potential ecological risk and factors affecting the migration ability of heavy metals using bioconcentration factors(BCF), potential ecological risk index(RI), risk assessment code(RAC), and correlation analysis. The results indicate that the average Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn concentrations exceeded the background values of soils in Zhejiang Province and China. Cd had the greatest potential ecological harm, followed by that of Hg. The bioactive components and potential bioactive components of Cd accounted for 46% and 33%, respectively, indicating relatively high bioavailability. Cu and Pb were mainly in potential bioactive components accounting for 60% and 73%, respectively. The As, Cr, Hg, Ni, and Zn were predominantly residual and accounted for >60%, which indicated low biological activity. The RAC levels were in the following order:Cd>Zn>Cu>Pb>Ni>As>Cr>Hg; soil Cd had the highest ecological risk, mainly with high and extremely high levels, whereas other elements had no risk or low risk. Compared with Cd content in soil, only eight rice samples had Cd contents exceeding the safety limit, and sweet potato samples did not exceed the standard. The migration and enrichment capability of rice in order from strong to weak was s follows:Cd>Zn>Cu>Hg>As>Ni>Cr>Pb; the bioactive component of Cd played a significant role in promoting Cd absorption by rice. Soil OM had a bi-directional effect on Cd bioavailability, whereas soil texture had an indirect effect. This comprehensive study shows that the total amount of heavy metals in soil, chemical speciation, biological activities, absorption, and enrichment of heavy metals by crops should be taken into consideration when assessing the ecological risks in the superimposed areas affected by high background and human activities, such as the pyrite mining area.

Organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) have emerged as good alternatives to brominated flame retardants, the use of which is globally restricted. In this study, a screening method based on QuEChERS-gas chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-Q-TOF/MS) was established for the determination of 21 OPFRs in rice. First, full scan (scanning range, m/z 50-450) was performed with a mixed standard solution of the 21 OPFRs (0.1 μg/g) by GC-Q-TOF/MS. The fragmentation pathways of these OPFRs were then investigated to explore their cleavage fragments, the interrelationships among fragments, and the possible cleavage modes of alkylated, chlorinated, and aromatic OPFRs. The retention times, isotopic abundance ratios, and molecular formulas of the characteristic fragments as well as the exact mass of the compounds were obtained to establish a mass spectral library of the OPFRs. Rice samples were extracted and purified by the QuEChERS method, and 0.5% formate acetonitrile solution was used as the extraction solvent; 4 g of magnesium sulfate, 1 g of sodium chloride, 0.5 g of disodium hydrogen citrate, and 1 g of sodium citrate as the extraction-salt combination; and 50 mg of primary secondary amine (PSA), 50 mg of octadecylsilane (C18), and 150 mg of magnesium sulfate as the purification materials. The chromatographic separation of the 21 OPFRs was completed within 16 min under optimized temperature program conditions on the DB-5MS UI column. The screening parameters were optimized, and a full scan of the samples was performed under the following conditions: number of characteristic fragment ions ≥2; accurate mass window=±2×10 -5 (±20 ppm); retention time deviation=±0.2 min, and ion abundance deviation<20%. The developed method was applied to the screening 21 OPFRs in the samples. The results indicated that the matrix interference was greatly reduced by decreasing the extraction accurate mass window, thereby improving the signal-to-noise ratio of the analytes. The targets were extracted from the matrix interference and background noise using deconvolution software, which improved the match between the target compounds and the mass spectral library. The detection rates of alkyl and aromatic OPFRs increased by 22% and 25%, respectively, when the spiking level was increased from 2 to 10 ng/g. Among the chlorinated OPFRs, only tris(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCIPP) was not detected at a spiking level of 2 ng/g, indicating that chlorinated OPFRs could be identified even at low concentrations. The characteristic ions of the detected compounds matched those of the home-made mass spectral library well, indicating that the practical application of the home-made mass spectral library. The established screening method was applied in the determination of OPFRs in rice samples from different regions in China. A total of 11 OPFRs were detected, among which trimethyl phosphate (TMP), tri-iso-butyl phosphate (TiBP), and tris(3,5-dimethylphenyl) phosphate (T35DMPP) had the highest detection rates. These results indicate that these three OPFRs are widely used and can easily come into contact with rice samples through various routes. Differences in the types of OPFRs detected in the actual samples may be related to the types of OPFRs produced in local factories. OPFRs can be detected in rice samples by the developed GC-Q-TOF/MS screening method, which is helpful for the identification of OPFRs in complex matrix samples.

To explore the effects of single or combined application of chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers on rice bioavailability of Cd in soils, pot experiments with reddish clayey soil (developed from quaternary red clay parent materials) under three exogenous Cd levels (0, 0.5, and 2.0 mg·kg -1 ) were conducted. Meanwhile, chlorine-based fertilizers (KCl, NH 4 Cl) and sulfur-based fertilizers[K 2 SO 4 , (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ] were added in different proportions. The soil pH, Cd morphology, and Cd accumulation in rice at different growth stages were analyzed. The results revealed that both chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers could acidify the soil; however, the effect of chlorine-based fertilizers was more significant. During the filling stage of rice, the soil pH value of the treatment of applying single chlorine-based fertilizer decreased by 0.28 on average compared with that of applying single sulfur-based fertilizer. At the maturity stage of rice, chlorine-based fertilizer could activate the residual Cd, whereas sulfur-based fertilizer passivated the acid-extracted Cd to its residual state. Compared with the single application of the same fertilizer, the combined application of chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers was more likely to promote the accumulation of Cd in rice plants. The highest Cd accumulation of brown rice was 0.21 mg·kg -1 (2.0 mg·kg -1 exogenous Cd level) in the 1:1 (mole ratios of Cl:S) treatment of chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers, which was 16.4% higher than that of single chlorine-based fertilizer and 113.3% higher than that of single sulfur-based fertilizer. Therefore, the combined application of chlorine-fertilizers and sulfur-based fertilizers will increase the concentration of Cd in brown rice. To ensure food quality and safety, it is more advisable to apply single sulfur-based fertilizer for rice planting.

Cadmium (Cd) contamination of paddy fields is a global concern, as it can cause the accumulation of Cd in food. To explore the effects of equal application of silicon fertilizers on the bioavailability of cadmium and soil Cd uptake at different growth stages of rice, a field experiment was conducted with five silicon fertilizers under the same silicon dose (225 kg·hm -2 ). The results revealed that the Cd contents in roots, stems, and leaves increased with the extension of the rice growth stage. The application of silicon fertilizers reduced the Cd contents in roots, stems, and leaves in brown rice by 14.9%, 28.2%, and 12.2%, respectively. Compared with that in the control, the Cd content of brown rice in the SiCaMgFe and SiW treatments was decreased by 21.1% ( P <0.05) and 21.2% ( P <0.05), respectively. Similarly, Cd content in iron plaque (DCB-Cd) increased with the extension of the rice growth period, which accounted for 15.8%-42.8% of the total Cd content in roots, and the DCB-Cd content was different in each stage of rice. The content of exchangeable Cd (Exc-Cd) in soil at the mature stage of rice decreased by 36.4%, and the other fractions increased by 12.5%-48.2%. The results showed significant negative correlations between the Cd contents and Si in roots, DCB-Cd and soil available Cd and available Si, Exc-Cd and Car-Cd, and soil available Cd and pH value. Cd content in roots was positively correlated with DCB-Cd. With the equal dose of silicon fertilizer, the treatments of SiCaMgFe and SiW could effectively reduce the Cd content in rice. The application of silicon fertilizer promoted the transfer of Exc-Cd to Carb-Cd by increasing the soil pH value and the soil available Si content, meanwhile reducing the soil available Cd, Exc-Cd contents, the adsorption of Cd by the iron film on the root surface, and the adsorption capacity of iron plaque and root, thereby reducing the absorption of Cd by rice.

Arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd) are the most common toxic and harmful heavy metal elements in paddy soils and are easily transferred from the soil to grains. At present, As and Cd and their co-contamination in paddy soils in China are widespread, posing a serious threat to food security and human health. As and Cd have opposite environmental behaviors in soil, and the simultaneous remediation of co-contamination with As and Cd is a current technical difficulty for safe rice production. This review focuses on several practical techniques for simultaneous mitigation of As and Cd uptake and transport in rice in recent years, including water management, passivation, drenching techniques, electrokinetic remediation, phytoremediation, selection of low-accumulation rice varieties, and foliar spraying application. The treatment effects, mechanisms of action, and constraints of various technologies are summarized and analyzed; the development direction of the main barrier control technologies is proposed and the importance of constructing a comprehensive technology model with high regional adaptability is emphasized to provide a reference for the remediation of co-contamination with As and Cd in paddy and safe rice production.

Objective: To develop a method for the determination of beauvercin(BEA), enniatin A(ENNA), enniatin A1(ENNA1), enniatin B(ENNB) and enniatin B1(ENNB1) in rice flour and wheat flour by ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-MS/MS)., Methods: Samples were extracted by acetonitrile-water, purified by Oasis Prime HLB solid-phase extraction column. The sample solution was separated by waters BEH C&#95;(18) column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.8 μm). The detection was performed in the electrospray positive ionization(ESI+) under multiple reaction monitoring(MRM) mode. The internal standard method and the matrix-matched calibrations were used for quantification., Results: The linear relationships of BEA and 4 kinds of enniatins(ENNs) were good in the range of 0.1-50.0 ng/mL(r&gt;0.999). The average recoveries of BEA and ENNs in rice flour and wheat flour were 96.4%-105.4% and 99.1%-109.2%, with the relative standard deviations(RSD) of 1.01%-7.42% and 1.09%-9.69%(n=6). The detection limits(LOD) of BEA and ENNs were 0.03 μg/kg. The quantitative limits(LOQ) of BEA and ENNs were 0.1μg/kg. The matrix induced suppression or enhancement effect were 72.7%-99.3% and 60.8%-100.4%, respectively. The levels of emerging BEA and ENNs in wheat flour were higher than rice flour. The detection rate of enniatin B was highest in wheat flour and rice flour, the contents were 0.03-9.57 μg/kg and 0.03-0.56 μg/kg, the positive percentage were 98.5% and 36.4%., Conclusion: The method is quick, easy, accurate and sensitive, which is suitable for the determination of BEA and 4 kinds of ENNs in rice flour and wheat flour.

In order to investigate the effects of distiller's lees biochar and different modified distiller's lees biochars on soil properties, pot experiments were conducted to study the effects of different soil amendments (CK:no amendment, JZ:distiller's lees biochar, TiO 2 /JZ:Nano-TiO 2 supported by distiller's lees biochar, and Fe/TiO 2 /JZ:titanium dioxide supported by iron-modified distiller's lees biochar) and the application rates of different amendments (1%, 3%, and 5%) on the characteristics of soil nutrients and enzyme activities under irrigation-drought rotation. The results showed the following:①the modified distiller's lees biochar significantly increased soil pH and CEC ( P <0.05). At the 5% Fe-TiO 2 /JZ addition level, the soil pH reached 7.95 during the rice season, an increase of 2.3 units compared with that in the CK treatment; the CEC reached 12.06 cmol·kg -1 , increasing by 21.38%; the soil pH reached 5.99 during the cabbage season and increased by 1.5 units compared with that in the CK treatment; and CEC reached 8.91 cmol·kg -1 at 3% Fe-TiO 2 /JZ addition and increased by 13.11%. ②At the same time, the contents of soil total nitrogen and available phosphorus were significantly increased ( P <0.05). Compared with that in the CK treatment, the soil total nitrogen of 5% JZ, 5% TiO 2 /JZ, and 5% Fe-TiO 2 /JZ increased by 20.56%, 85.04%, and 59.61% in the rice season and 12.39%, 22.68%, and 23.70% in the cabbage season, respectively. In the rice season, the increase in soil available P under 5% Fe-TiO 2 /JZ was the highest, reaching 10.49 mg·kg -1 , which was 1.64 times that under CK treatment. In the cabbage season, the soil available phosphorus (P) reached 90.15 mg·kg -1 under 5% TiO 2 /JZ addition, which increased by 93.38% compared with that in the CK treatment. ③Modified distiller's lees biochar increased catalase and urease activities and decreased alkali-hydrolytic nitrogen content and acid phosphatase activity. At the 3% addition level, catalase activity increased by 12.19%, 48.17%, and 37.30% in the rice season and 5.95%, 8.34%, and 17.42% in the cabbage season, respectively. In the rice season, the soil urease activity reached the maximum under 5% Fe-TiO 2 /JZ addition, which was increased by 40.90% compared with that in the CK treatment. In the cabbage season, the soil urease activity reached the maximum under 5% TiO 2 /JZ addition, which was increased by 58.53% compared with that in the CK treatment. The activity of acid phosphatase decreased by 5.39%-24.66% in the rice season and by 54.46%-61.40% in the cabbage season. Distiller's lees biochar and modified distiller's lees biochar could effectively increase soil pH and soil nutrient content, thus affecting soil enzyme activities. The application of iron modified-titanium dioxide-loaded distiller's lees biochar of 3% to 5% in acidic purple soil is more suitable.

Cadmium (Cd) heavy metal pollution has posed serious threats to soil health and the safe production utilization of agricultural products. A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of biochar (BC) and nitrogen fertilizer with three levels, namely 2.6 g·pot -1 (N1), 3.5 g·pot -1 (N2), 4.4 g·pot -1 (N3) biochar combined with nitrogen fertilizer (BCN1, BCN2, and BCN3), on soil Cd fractions, Cd enrichment, the transport of rice, and soil enzyme activity, as well as the changes in microbial community composition and complex interactions between microorganisms through high-throughput sequencing. The results showed that biochar combined with nitrogen fertilizer led to the transformation of Cd from the exchangeable state to the residue state, and the proportion of the exchangeable state was significantly reduced by 6.2%-14.7%; by contrast, the proportion of the residue state increased by 18.6%-26.4% relative to that in CK. In addition, singular treatments of nitrogen fertilizer enhanced the accumulation capacities of Cd in roots, which increased by 22%-33.5% compared with that in CK. By contrast, the BC and BCN treatments reduced Cd accumulation in roots and the transfer capacity from stems to rice husks and husk to rice. Furthermore, the BCN treatments promoted soil enzyme activities (urease, acid phosphatase, invertase, and catalase). MiSeq sequencing showed that BCN treatments increased the abundance of the main species of soil bacterial microbes (such as Acidobacteriales, Solibacterales, Pedosphaerales, and Nitrospirales). Moreover, co-occurrence network analysis showed that the complexity of the soil bacterial network was enhanced under the N, BC, and BCN treatments. Overall, biochar combined with nitrogen fertilizer reduced soil Cd availability, inhibited the capacity of Cd accumulation and the transport of rice, and improved the soil eco-environmental quality. Thus, using BCN could be a feasible practice for the remediation of Cd-polluted agricultural soil.

To reveal the effects of biogas slurry application on soil microbial community structure and function, a soil column experiment was constructed with three treatments[(no N addition, CM; conventional fertilization, SN; biogas slurry addition, SZ)]. The differences in composition, diversity, and structure of bacterial and fungal communities on day 1 and day 21 after soil flooding were evaluated, and their functions were predicted using Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology. The results of the analysis of α diversity showed that the fungal α-diversity indexes of CM, SN, and SZ treatments on day 1 were significantly higher than those on day 21, and there was no significant difference among the three treatments. However, the bacterial Simpson index differed among the three treatments on day 21, with SZ-21 showing a higher Simpson index but lower Chao1 index compared with those of SZ-21. The analysis of bacterial community structure showed that Firmicutes, Chloroflexi, and Actinobacteria in the SN-1 treatment were different from those in the other treatments on day 1, whereas the relative abundance of bacterial phyla in the SZ and SN treatments were similar on day 21. The analysis of fungal community structure showed that the relative abundance of Ascomycota and Zygomycota in the SZ-1 treatment were higher than those in the SN-1 and CM-1 treatments on day 1. The relative abundance of Ascomycota in the SN-21 and SZ-21 treatments were lower, whereas that of Zygomycota were higher compared with that in CM-21. The analysis of NMDS showed that the composition of bacterial and fungal communities in the SN and SZ treatments showed a gradually similar trend. The PICRUSt analysis showed that the function of the soil bacterial community was similar in the CM, SN, and SZ treatments. The FUNGuild function prediction reflected that the main differences in trophic type between the SN-21 and SZ-21 treatments occurred in saprotroph and pathotroph forms. Therefore, biogas slurry addition in the wheat-rice stubble stage could contribute to balancing soil nutrients and maintaining soil ecological function to a certain extent, but there may still be a risk of fungal disease.

A field experiment was conducted in a lightly Cd-contaminated rice field in Ningxiang City, Hunan Province, to study the effects of straw removal measures on the soil Cd bioavailability and rice Cd accumulation. The results showed that:① two consecutive seasons of straw removal measures (T1-T4 treatments) effectively increased soil pH by 0.04-0.58 units, reduced soil organic matter by 0.68%-25.87%, and reduced the Cd content of rhizosphere soil by 3.76%-12.78%. ② The proportions of Cd in the acid-extractable fraction and oxidizable fraction decreased, and the proportion of Cd in the residual fraction increased. Furthermore, straw removal measures significantly reduced the bioavailability of Cd in rhizosphere soil, and the Cd contents in TCLP, DTPA, and CaCl 2 extracts all significantly decreased compared with those in CK. ③ The straw removal measure could significantly reduce the content of DOC and Cd in soil pore water; and the contents of Cd in soil pore water decreased by 4.54%-40.00% and 2.75%-67.34% under the straw removal measure (T1-T4) for two consecutive seasons, respectively, indicating that DOC was one of the key factors affecting the content of Cd in soil pore water. ④ Two consecutive straw removal measures (T1-T4) reduced the accumulation of Cd in different rice tissues, among which, under the treatment of all straw and root removal (T4), the Cd contents of brown rice in late rice planting in 2020 and early rice planting in 2021 decreased by 18.52% and 39.69%, respectively. Therefore, full or partial removal of straw in Cd-contaminated rice fields is a powerful measure to reduce the risk of exceeding Cd levels in brown rice.

Objective: To develop a method for rapid determination of Bacillus cereus cereulide in rice and flour products by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, providing emergency measures for food poisoning caused by cereulide., Methods: Single rice and flour samples were extracted with acetonitrile aqueous solution, salting out, after centrifuged and filmed, the organic phase was directly determined. The complex matrix samples fried rice and noodles were extracted with acetonitrile aqueous solution, cleaned up with HLB column, a ACQUITY UPLC Peptide BEH C&#95;(18) 300Å column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.7 μm)was used for liquid chromatography separation, multiple reaction monitoring(MRM) mode was used for detection in electrospray ionization with positive ion mode, and quantified by the solvent standard curve method., Results: At the spiked level of 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0 μg/kg, the recoveries of cereulide in negative steamed rice, steamed bread and noodles samples were 87.4%-98.3%, and the relative standard deviations were 1.4%-4.2%. At the spiking levels of 1.0, 2.0 and 5.0 μg/kg, the recoveries of cereulide in the negative samples such as fried steamed rice and fried noodles were 89.5%-99.3% with the relative standard deviations of 1.1%-7.5%(n=6). The detection limit of cereulide was 0.2-0.3 μg/kg, and the quantification limit was 0.5-1.0 μg/kg. The established method was applied to the detection of the actual samples causing food poisoning in a certain place in Beijing. The content of cereulide in poisoned food samples was 1287-7398 μg/kg, the content of cereulide in two raw materials cold noodles was 0.4 and 9.4 μg/kg., Conclusion: The method is simple, rapid, high sensitivity and accurate, and can realize the rapid treatment of food poisoning caused by cereulide.

Focusing on the cultivated land in Wanjiang Economic Zone, 338 sets of soil samples of rice, wheat, and their roots were collected; the concentrations of five heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Hg, and Pb) were determined; the soil-crop pollution characteristics were evaluated using the method of geo-accumulation index and comprehensive evaluation; the human health risk of ingesting heavy metals from crops was assessed; and the soil environmental reference value of the regional cultivated land was inverted based on the species sensitive distribution model (SSD). The results showed that in the study area, the soil of rice and wheat was polluted by heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Hg, and Pb) in varying degrees, among which Cd was the primary pollution factor of rice, with the over-standard rate of 13.33%, and Cr was the main over-standard factor of wheat, with the over-standard rate of 11.32%. The cumulative index showed that the percentage of Cd pollution in rice was 80.7%, and that in wheat was 35.85%. Contrary to the high pollution level of soil heavy metals, only 17.19% and 7.55% of Cd in rice and wheat exceeded the national food safety limit, and the accumulation capacity of the heavy metal Cd was rice>wheat. The health risk assessment indicated that heavy metals had high non-carcinogenic risk and unacceptable carcinogenic risk to adults and children in this study. The carcinogenic risk of rice intake was higher than that of wheat, and the health risk of children was higher than that of adults. SSD inversion showed that the reference values of As, Cd, Cr, Hg, and Pb in paddy soil in the study area were an HC 5 of 6.24, 0.13, 258.27, 0.12, and 53.61 mg·kg -1 and an HC 95 of 68.81, 5.71, 1068.92, 0.80, and 174.22 mg·kg -1 , respectively. The reference values of As, Cd, Cr, Hg, and Pb in wheat soil HC 5 were 32.99, 0.04, 271.14, 0.09, and 47.53 mg·kg -1 , and the values of HC 95 were 225.28, 0.71, 998.58, 1.43, and 241.99 mg·kg -1 , respectively. The reverse analysis showed that the HC 5 of heavy metals in rice and wheat were lower than the soil risk screening values in the current standard to varying degrees. The current soil standard had loosened for the evaluation results of this region.

The As sequestration by iron plaque and the As translocation in rice significantly affect the As accumulation in brown rice, and silicon (Si) application inhibits the As accumulation in rice plants. However, little information is available concerning the effect of Si application on As sequestration by iron plaque and translocation in rice. In this study, a pot experiment using As-contaminated paddy soil with different Si supply levels was conducted to investigate the effects of Si application on the As sequestration by iron plaque on the root surface and the As translocation from different tissues to brown rice. The results showed that the Si2 (0.66 g·kg -1 ) treatment significantly increased the activities of CAT (1.81 times), SOD (7.98 times), and POD (1.25 times) in the roots, increased the DCB-extractable Fe concentration (44.35%), and promoted the roughness of iron plaque (108.91%), resulting in a significant increase in the DCB-extractable As concentration of iron plaque (88.32%). Moreover, the Si2 treatment significantly promoted the As accumulation in the roots and inhibited the As translocation from the roots and leaves to the brown rice, leading to a significant decrease in the brown rice As concentration (53.12%). The increase in As sequestration by iron plaque with Si application was attributed to the enhancement of iron plaque formation and the promotion of surface roughness of iron plaque, whereas the inhibition of As translocation from the roots and leaves to the brown rice in the Si application treatment was closely related to the competition between Si with As for transporters and the promotion of As-thiol complex formation and As compartmentalization in vacuolar. These findings provide more insight into the mechanisms of As translocation in rice and will be helpful for exploring strategies to reduce rice grain As through Si supply in As-contaminated paddy fields in South China.

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of various adjuvant rice on the quality of rice-steamed Rehmanniae Radix(RSRR) with Japonica rice, millet, yellow rice, black rice, and glutinous rice as raw materials, and analyze the anti-osteoporosis effect of RSRR by the optimal adjuvant rice. On the basis of the established UPLC-MS/MS method for the determination of the content of catalpol and rehmannioside D, comprehensive weighted scoring method was employed to evaluate the effect of various auxiliary rice on the quality of RSRR with the content of catalpol and rehmannioside D, character score, and taste score as indicators to optimize adjuvant rice. The osteoporosis model was induced by ovariectomy in rats. SD rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group, a model group, a positive control group, and low-dose and high-dose groups of Rehmanniae Radix, RSRR, steamed Rehmanniae Radix, and Epimedii Folium-RSRR. After treatment for 12 weeks, body weight, bone calcium content, and bone mineral density were mea-sured. The results showed that Japonica rice was selected as the optimal adjuvant due to the highest comprehensive score of RSRR steamed by Japonica rice. Rehmanniae Radix, RSRR, steamed Rehmanniae Radix, as well as Epimedii Folium-RSRR, could improve osteoporosis by increasing bone calcium content and bone mineral density. RSRR was superior to Rehmanniae Radix in improving osteo-porosis. However, there was no significant difference between RSRR and steamed Rehmanniae Radix. This study confirmed that Japo-nica rice was the optimal adjuvant rice of RSRR and verified the anti-osteoporosis effect of RSRR, which laid a foundation for further research on the pharmacological action and mechanism of RSRR.

A total of 174 soil samples and 87 grain samples were collected in two typical fields in Longyan City. The pollution index method, Hakanson potential ecological risk index method, and EPA human exposure risk assessment model were used to evaluate the pollution status, ecological risk, and health risks of heavy metals Pb, Cd, and As in soil of different land use types. The contributions of Pb, Cd, and As to soil and crop pollution risk were also analyzed. The results indicated that the pollution levels of Pb, Cd, and As in soils and crops of different utilization types in regionⅠwere low. Cd was the main soil pollutant and ecological risk factor, contributing 55.3% to comprehensive soil pollution and 60.2% to comprehensive potential ecological risk, respectively. The pollution levels of Pb, Cd, and As in soils and crops in regionⅡwere high. Pb and Cd were the main soil pollutants and ecological risk factors, contributing 44.2% and 51.6% to comprehensive pollution and 23.7% and 67.3% to comprehensive potential ecological risk, respectively. Pb was the main pollution factor of crops, contributing 60.6% and 51.7% to the comprehensive pollution of coix and rice, respectively. The carcinogenic risks of Cd and As in soil of the two typical regions for adults and children were all within the acceptable range under the oral-soil exposure pathway. The contribution of Pb, Cd, and As to the total non-carcinogenic risk in regionⅠwas Pb (68.1%)>As (30.5%)>Cd (1.38%). There was no carcinogenic risk of Pb in rice in the two typical regions under the oral-rice intake pathway. The contribution of Cd and As to carcinogenic risk in adults and children were As (76.8%)>Cd (22.7%) and Cd (69.1%)>As (30.3%), respectively. Three pollutants in regionⅠand Ⅱ had high non-carcinogenic risk, and As was the most significant contributor (84.0% and 52.0%, respectively), followed by Cd and Pb.

Farmland is the important soil carbon pool of terrestrial ecosystems and organic nutrient pool for crop growth. To clarify the impact of climate warming on the soil carbon pool, this study analyzed the effects of warming and fertilization on soil organic carbon and its labile components under rice-wheat rotation using a free-air temperature increase system. The variation in soil carbon pool management index (CPMI) was also evaluated. The results showed that the combined effects of warming and fertilization on soil organic carbon content and labile organic carbon components were insignificant. Warming increased the soil organic carbon (SOC) content, and the differences between warming and the ambient control in total organic carbon (TOC) and recalcitrant organic carbon (ROC) reached a statistically significant level. Compared with those under the ambient control, the contents of TOC, ROC, and labile organic carbon (LOC) subjected to warming increased by 7.72%, 7.42%, and 10.11%, respectively. The increased microbial biomass carbon (MBC) content (20.4%) and decreased particulate organic carbon (POC) content (36.51%) may have been the main reason for the variation in SOC. Warming showed no significant effect on soil dissolved organic carbon (DOC) content, whereas it markedly reduced its soluble microbial by-product components (41.89%). The results also showed that fertilization had no significant effect on soil TOC, ROC, and LOC, but it notably reduced the contents of DOC and POC and increased the MBC content. Compared with those under the control without fertilization, the contents of DOC and POC subjected to fertilization decreased by 35.44% and 28.33%, respectively, and the MBC content increased by 33.38%. Additionally, fertilization tended to increase the anthropogenic humus component (5.13%) and soluble microbial by-product component (29.41%) in dissolved organic matter and reduce the terrestrial humus component (13.33%). Warming and fertilization both tended to improve soil CPMI. Affected by SOC and LOC, the increase in soil carbon pool index and soil lability index were the main reason for the increase in soil CPMI under warming and fertilization, respectively. Overall, the results revealed that climate warming can affect the soil carbon pool by changing soil labile carbon components, which are not affected by fertilization.

In order to explore the pollution characteristics and health risks of heavy metals in a soil-crop system in the Anhui section of the Yangtze River basin, a total of 338 groups of soil samples from rice, wheat, and their roots were collected, and the contents of eight types of heavy metals were determined. Additionally, the pollution index method, potential ecological hazard, multivariate statistical analysis, and health risk were used to evaluate the heavy metal content in rice and wheat root soil. The results showed that Cd, Cu, Cr, and Ni in the soil had an obvious accumulation effect, and the pollution of rice root soil was more serious than that of wheat soil. The potential ecological risk was mild to moderate, which mainly came from the elements Cd and Hg. Multivariate statistical analysis showed that Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd were industrial sources and agricultural sources; Cr and Ni were natural sources; and As and Hg were agricultural sources. The absorption and enrichment intensity of heavy metals by rice was in the order of Cd>Zn>Cu>Hg>Ni>As>Cr=Pb, and those in wheat were ordered as Zn>Cd>Cu>Hg>Ni>As=Pb>Cr. The root soil heavy metal health risk assessment indicated that oral intake was the main exposure route of non-carcinogenic risk, and children were more vulnerable to heavy metal pollution. Non-carcinogenic risk assessment showed that wheat root soil posed non-carcinogenic risk to children but no carcinogenic risk. Intake of rice and wheat had some degree of non-carcinogenic risk and unacceptable carcinogenic risk for both adults and children.

To explore the effect and persistent effect of thiolated montmorillonite (TM) on safe production in cadmium (Cd) contaminated cropland, a two-year field experiment was conducted with different application amounts of TM. By adding to highly contaminated soils containing 2.46-3.81 mg·kg -1 Cd with no replenishment, the impacts of TM on concentrations of Cd in different parts of rice and available Cd in soils were investigated. The results showed that TM could significantly reduce the contents of Cd in brown rice as well as the contents and proportions of available Cd in soils, and its persistent effects on the passivation of Cd were obvious. After applying 0.5% or 1% TM to soils, the contents of Cd in different parts of the rice decreased significantly in the first season compared with that in the control. The contents of Cd in brown rice in the first season decreased to 0.16 mg·kg -1 and 0.08 mg·kg -1 , respectively, by 84.0% and 91.9% compared with that of the control (0.98 mg·kg -1 ). Contents of Cd in brown rice were significantly lower than the maximum allowable amount (0.2 mg·kg -1 ) set by China (GB 2762-2017). Under the 0.5% and 1% treatments, the contents of Cd in brown rice of the subsequent three seasons under successive planting decreased by 50.2%-67.8% and 56.0%-81.6%, respectively, which were within the allowable amount. The proportions of available Cd in soils in the first season decreased from 48.4% under the control to 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively, which decreased by 20.5% and 29.9% under the 0.5% and 1% treatments. Compared with that in the control, proportions of available Cd in soils of the following three seasons decreased by 10.0%-17.1% and 12.4%-20.8%. There was a significant positive correlation between available Cd contents in soils and Cd contents in various parts of the rice. TM mainly reduced available Cd contents in soils, then reduced the absorption and accumulation of Cd in rice. The results of the two-year field experiment showed significant and continuous effects of TM on inhibiting Cd uptake by rice, which could be applied to the safe production in heavily Cd contaminated cropland.

In this study, a new Bacillus velezensis strain Bv-303 was identified and its biocontrol effect against rice bacterial-blight (BB) disease caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae ( Xoo ) was investigated. Cell-free supernatant (CFS) of strain Bv-303 under different growth conditions were prepared to test the antagonistic activity and stability against Xoo by the Oxford-cup method in vitro . The antibacterial effect of strain Bv-303 to BB disease in rice were further analyzed in vivo by spraying the cell-culture broth (CCB), CFS and cell-suspension water (CSW), respectively, on the rice leaves inoculated with Xoo . Additionally, rice seeds germination rate and seedling growth under the strain Bv-303 CCB treatment were tested. The results showed that the strain Bv-303 CFS significantly inhibited Xoo growth by 85.7%‒88.0% in vitro , which was also stable under extreme environment conditions such as heat, acid, alkali and ultraviolet light. As tested in vivo , spraying the CCB, CFS or CSW of strain Bv-303 on the Xoo -infected leaves enhanced rice plant resistance to BB disease, with CCB showing the highest increase (62.7%) in disease-resistance. Notably, CCB does not have negative effects on rice seed germination and seedling growth. Therefore, strain Bv-303 has great potential for biocontrol of the rice BB disease.

For the sake of investigating the effects of residual antibiotics in soil on plant growth, sulfamethazine, which is commonly detected in soil, was selected in this project. In general, the growth index of rice at the seedling and mature stages, physiological/biochemical characteristics of roots and leaves, antibiotic residues, enrichment factors, and transport coefficients in various rice organs were respectively tested and analyzed to evaluate the ecological effects of sulfamethazine residues on rice. The results revealed that the inhibitory effect of sulfamethazine on plant height and biomass was maintained during the whole growth cycle. Moreover, the effect at the seedling stage was greater than that at the growth maturity stage, and the root part was more easily influenced than the seedling section. The root activity, nitrate reductase activity, and leaf chlorophyll content at the seedling stage were hindered by the increase in antibiotic content. By contrast, the antioxidant enzyme change showed a different tendency, in which the superoxide was activated, and the catalase and peroxidase were firstly activated and then inhibited. The sulfamethazine accumulation in various rice organs was in the order of root>leaf>sti>grain. The results of antibiotic risk assessment of rice grains exhibited that EDI/ADI was less than 0.1, indicating no health risk. The effect of sulfamethazine on enrichment factors and transport coefficients at the growth maturity stage was more obvious than that at the seedling stage. Considering the adverse effects of sulfamethazine on rice, we need to take the ecological effects of sulfamethazine on plants into consideration when applying livestock manure as organic fertilizer or using aquaculture water for irrigation, to ensure crop production safety.

In recent years, the excessive application of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers has caused serious pollution and eutrophication, especially in paddy fields. Accordingly, a two-year (2018-2019) study was conducted at a rice paddy field under different fertilizer application rates and straw mulching in Chengdu Plain. N and P losses through the rainfall and surface runoff in the paddy field were measured under natural rainfall conditions. The results showed that nitrogen mainly existed in the form of ammonium nitrogen, and phosphorus mainly existed in the form of soluble phosphorus in the wet deposition. The wet deposition of nitrogen and phosphorus mainly occurred in June, July, and August. Surface runoff was positively correlated with rainfall, whereas surface runoff nitrogen concentration was inversely correlated with rainfall. The highest runoff losses of TN (4.75 kg·hm -2 in 2018 and 2.68 kg·hm -2 in 2019) were produced by TR3 practice and were 26.73% and 43.32% higher than that of the conventional practice. TN runoff loss was significantly decreased by reducing the rate of N fertilizer ( P <0.05). Compared with that in the conventional practice TR1, TR4 reduced the N loss by 36.33% in 2018 and 26.74% in 2019, respectively. Optimized fertilizer TR2 and nitrogen reduction practice TR4 decreased P loss from surface runoff, and high intensity rainfall could reduce the content of granular phosphorus in surface runoff. The surface runoff occurring in July, August, and September contributed mostly to the total N loss, whereas the loss of total P mainly occurred before July. Consequently, the use of balanced fertilizer and decreased nitrogen fertilization amount might be effective strategies to attenuate non-point source pollution in the Chengdu Plain in the paddy fields.

In order to quantitatively evaluate the impact of biochar on the yield of staple crops in China, a total of 866 pairs of data from 116 published studies were collected. Meta analysis was used to quantitatively analyze the impact of biochar on the yield of staple crops in China and its influencing factors. Meanwhile, a structural equation model (SEM) was constructed to further explain the interaction among the factors. The results showed that compared with no biochar application, biochar application could improve the physical and chemical properties of the soil in the main grain fields and increase the yield of the main grain crops, with an average yield increase rate of 8.77%. Among them, when the pH of biochar was 7-8, the average yield increase rate was the highest, reaching 26.49%. When C/N<60, the average yield increase rate was 13.73%, which was significantly higher than that of C/N≥60. Applying biochar to acidic or neutral soil could give full play to its yield-increasing effect. When the amount of carbon applied was 10-20 t·hm -2 , the average yield increase rate of wheat and corn was the highest. The average yield of rice was the highest when the amount of carbon was 15-25 t·hm -2 . However, the yield-increasing rates of rice with different carbon application levels were similar, so it is possible to consider losing part of the yield and give consideration to the economic benefits by appropriate reduction. In addition, the yield-increasing effect of biochar decreased with the increase in application years, and generally the yield-increasing effect was not significant after three years. The SEM showed that the application amount of biochar not only directly affected the yield of staple crops but also indirectly affected the yield of staple crops by improving soil fertility, whereas biochar C/N and pH only affected the yield of staple crops by improving soil fertility. Therefore, in the future application of biochar, priority should be given to applying it to acidic or neutral soil with low fertility, and its C/N and pH should be controlled below 60 and 7-8, respectively. Soil conditions, biochar characteristics, and field management measures should be comprehensively considered to maximize the yield of staple crops. This research can provide scientific basis and theoretical basis for the popularization and rational application of biochar.

The study of the effects of different fertilization treatments on soil methane (CH 4 ) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emissions in rice-vegetable rotation systems is of great significance to supplement the research gap on greenhouse gas emissions in tropical regions of China. In this study, four fertilization treatments were set up during the pepper season:phosphorus and potassium fertilizer application (PK); nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) application; half application of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium plus half application of organic fertilizer (NPK+M); and application of organic fertilizer (M). There was no fertilizer application during the following early rice season. The objective of our study was to investigate the rules of CH 4 and N 2 O emissions under different fertilization treatments in the pepper growth season, and the effects of different fertilization treatments in the pepper growth season on rice yield, and CH 4 and N 2 O emissions in the following early rice growth season. The close static chamber-gas chromatography method was applied to determine soil CH 4 and N 2 O emissions. We measured crop yield, estimated global warming potential (GWP), and calculated greenhouse gas emission intensity (GHGI). Our results showed that:① the cumulative CH 4 emission under the four fertilization treatments ranged between 0.9 kg·hm -2 to 2.7 kg·hm -2 during the pepper growth season and between 5.5 kg·hm -2 to 8.4 kg·hm -2 during the early rice growth season. Compared with NPK, NPK+M and M reduced the cumulative CH 4 emission in the pepper growth season by 35.3% and 7.6%, respectively; however, NPK+M and M increased the cumulative CH 4 emission in the early rice season by 37.5% and 55.1%, respectively. There was a significant difference in cumulative CH 4 emission between M and NPK in the early rice growth season. ② The cumulative N 2 O emission under the four fertilization treatments varied from 0.5 kg·hm -2 to 3.0 kg·hm -2 in the pepper growth season and from 0.3 kg·hm -2 to 0.5 kg·hm -2 in the early rice growth season. The cumulative N 2 O emission was significantly decreased by 33.7% in NPK+M and by 16.0% in M, compared with that in NPK. In the early rice growth season, the cumulative N 2 O emission was decreased by 23.5% by NPK+M but was increased by 9.1% by M. There was no significant difference in the cumulative N 2 O emission among the four fertilization treatments. ③ The yields of pepper and early rice under the four fertilization treatments were 3055.6-37722.5 kg·hm -2 and 5850.9-6994.4 kg·hm -2 , respectively. Compared with that in NPK, NPK+M and M significantly increased pepper yield. The GWP under the four fertilization treatments in the pepper-early rice rotation system varied from 508.0 kg·hm -2 to 1864.4 kg·hm -2 . Compared with NPK, NPK+M significantly decreased GWP by 25.7% and M insignificantly decreased GWP by 5.7%. The pepper growth season with the four fertilization treatments contributed to 69.2%-78.1% of the total GWP, and N 2 O contributed to 77.3%-85.3% of the total GWP. The GHGI ranged between 0.03 kg·kg -1 and 0.09 kg·kg -1 in the pepper growth season and between 0.04 kg·kg -1 and 0.24 kg·kg -1 in the early rice growth season. Compared with that in NPK, both M and NPK+M significantly reduced the GHGI by 71.5% and 54.7%, respectively, in the pepper growth season. In the early rice season, NPK+M significantly decreased the GHGI by 44.0%, but M non-significantly decreased the GHGI by 20.8%. The peak in N 2 O emission in the tropical pepper-early rice rotation system appeared after fertilization, and N 2 O emissions primarily occurred in the pepper growth season. However, CH 4 emission was mainly concentrated in the early rice season. Considering the overall enhancing effects on crop yield and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, the co-application of chemical and organic fertilizers (NPK+M) can be recommended as an optimal fertilization practice to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and maintain crop yield in pepper-rice rotation systems of Hainan, China.

Agroecosystems are a significant source of nitric oxide (NO), a potent atmospheric pollutant. It has been well documented that the NO emissions from upland cropping systems and their emission factors are large relative to those from paddy fields. However, a clear understanding of their uncertainty and regulating factors is still lacking. To date, various field experiments have been conducted to investigate NO emissions and mitigation, providing an opportunity for a Meta-analysis. The aims of this study were to 1 investigate the uncertainty and regulating factors of NO emissions and emission factors from maize-winter wheat rotations, non-waterlogging period in rice-winter wheat rotations, vegetable fields, tea plantations, and fruit orchards across China by extracting data from peer-reviewed publications, and 2 quantify the mitigation potential of management practices, such as reducing nitrogen fertilizer input, organic substitution with chemical fertilizers, and application of enhanced-efficiency nitrogen fertilizers or biochar by performing a pairwise Meta-analysis. A total of 49 references (published from 2006 to 2021) were collected. The results showed that annual NO emissions from the maize-winter wheat rotations, tea plantations, and fruit orchards averaged 1.44, 7.45, and 0.92 kg·hm -2 , respectively, with significant differences among the three cropping systems ( P <0.05). The seasonal NO emissions from the non-waterlogging period in rice-winter wheat rotations and vegetable fields within a single growth period averaged 2.13 kg·hm -2 and 2.09 kg·hm -2 , respectively. The NO emissions positively related to nitrogen inputs in the maize-winter wheat rotations, non-waterlogging period in rice-winter wheat rotations, and tea plantations ( P <0.01) but not in the vegetable fields and fruit orchards. The emission factors averaged 0.31%, 0.71%, 0.96%, 1.74%, and 0.13% in the maize-winter wheat rotations, non-waterlogging period in rice-winter wheat rotations, vegetable fields, tea plantations, and fruit orchards, respectively, with significant differences among the cropping systems ( P <0.01), except between the maize-winter wheat rotations and non-waterlogging period in rice-winter wheat rotations or vegetable fields ( P >0.05). Considering the substantial differences in emission factors among the cropping systems, a specific emission factor for each system should be applied when estimating an agricultural NO budget at a regional or national scale. Reducing nitrogen input only mitigated NO emissions (by 36%) at a reducing nitrogen ratio above 25% but did not impact emission factors. An optimal reducing nitrogen ratio has to be further evaluated without crop productivity penalties. Organic substitution in soils with organic carbon content<15 g·kg -1 or pH<7 and application of enhanced-efficiency fertilizers in the maize-winter wheat rotation simultaneously mitigated NO emissions (by -46%- -38%) and emission factors (by -62%- -45%). By contrast, biochar amendment had no significant effects on either NO emissions or emission factors. These findings highlight a possibility of choosing an effective NO mitigation strategy under specific field conditions.

Rice straw is an important organic fertilizer in the region for double-cropping rice in South China. To reveal the effects of early rice returning with reducing potassium fertilizer on the yield of late rice and soil fertility, field experiments were carried out in Baiyun and Huiyang district in Guangdong province. The biomass, K content, and yield of late rice and the soil fertility properties, such as soil available potassium, soil organic carbon, bacterial diversity, and bacterial community structure were analyzed under three treatments (CK, conventional fertilization; RS, straw returning with conventional fertilization; RS-K, straw returning with reducing 20% potassium fertilizer). The results showed no significant differences in the biomass and yield of late rice between the RS-K treatment and CK treatment. Compared with that in CK, the RS treatment significantly increased the K contents of rice by 3.97% (Baiyun) and 6.91% (Huiyang). The K contents of late rice under the RS-K treatment were significantly lower than that under the CK treatment during the early growth period in rice, but there was no significant difference between them during the late growth period. Compared with that in CK, the soil available K in the RS treatment increased by 13.90% (Baiyun) and 21.67% (Huiyang) ( P <0.05), and the soil available K in the RS-K treatment also increased by 3.56% (Baiyun) and 4.23% (Huiyang). Compared with that in the CK treatment, the soil dissolved organic carbon increased significantly in the RS and RS-K treatments ( P <0.05). Compared with that in CK, the straw returning treatments (RS and RS-K) significantly improved the Chao1 and Shannon indexes of soil bacteria ( P <0.05). Straw returning treatments (RS and RS-K) increased the relative abundance of Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Nitrospirae compared with that in CK, whereas they decreased the relative abundance of Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes. Redundancy analysis showed that the soil bacterial community was mainly influenced by soil organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon, microbial biomass carbon, available P, and available K. In summary, early rice returning could increase soil available K and K content in late rice. Early rice straw returning with reducing potassium fertilizer had no negative impacts on the growth and yield of late rice and could also improve soil organic carbon and the diversity of soil bacteria. Therefore, early rice straw returning with reducing potassium fertilizer can guarantee the grain yield of late rice and improve soil fertility.

According to the positioning experiment of straw returning in the continuous field 7a, the effects of straw returning combined with chemical fertilizer on soil total organic carbon (TOC), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), particulate organic carbon (POC), labile organic carbon (LOC), carbon pool management index (CPMI), and crop yield in farmland soil profiles (0-20, 20-50, and 50-80 cm) in the Chaohu Lake area were studied. There were four treatments:no straw returning+no fertilization (CK), conventional fertilization (F), straw returning+conventional fertilization (SF1), and straw returning+80% conventional fertilization (SF2). The changes in soil total organic carbon and component content, CPMI, and rape rice yield in different soil layers were analyzed. Taking CK as a reference, conventional fertilization and straw returning combined with chemical fertilizer increased the content of total organic carbon and components in the soil vertical profile, and the content of total organic carbon and components in different soil layers decreased gradually with the increase in soil depth. In the 0-20 cm soil layer, compared with that in the F treatment, the SF1 and SF2 treatments significantly increased the contents of TOC, DOC, POC, and LOC by 14.23%-28.97%, 7.86%-27.01%, 16.46%-24.24%, and 5.89%-6.64%, respectively ( P <0.05). In the 20-50 cm soil layer, the contents of TOC and LOC in SF1 were significantly increased by 9.43% and 8.34%, respectively, compared with those in the F treatment ( P <0.05), and the contents of DOC and POC in SF2 were significantly increased by 17.51% and 65.83% compared with those in the F treatment ( P <0.05). In the 50-80 cm soil layer, there was no significant difference in the contents of total organic carbon and components among the treatments. The effect of straw returning and chemical fertilizer on the soil carbon pool management index was significant. SF1 significantly improved the CPMI of the 0-50 cm soil layer compared with that in the F treatment, whereas the CPMI of the F treatment was the largest in the 50-80 cm soil layer; however, there was no significant difference among all treatments. Straw returning combined with chemical fertilizer had a significant effect on crop yield, and the yield of the SF1 treatment was the highest; compared with that of the F treatment, the rice, rape, and annual yields were significantly increased by 6.19%, 7.67%, and 6.54%, respectively ( P <0.05). In general, straw returning combined with chemical fertilizer was of great significance to improve the soil carbon pool, soil fertility, and crop yield in the Chaohu Lake area.

Based on a three-year field experiment, the effects of reduced chemical fertilizer combined with straw application on paddy yield, soil fertility properties, and community structure of diazotrophs in a double-rice cropping field three years after straw application were examined. Three treatments were applied:conventional fertilizer application (CF), chemical fertilizer reduction combined with a low straw application rate (CFLS, 3 t·hm -2 ), and a high straw application rate (CFHS, 6 t·hm -2 ). The results showed that CFLS and CFHS did not significantly reduce rice grain yield ( P >0.05); significantly neutralized soil acidification; increased soil microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen, dissolved organic carbon, and organic carbon content ( P <0.05); and significantly reduced soil redox potential, ammonium nitrogen, and nitrate nitrogen contents ( P <0.05). This was more conducive to improve soil nitrogen use efficiency. Compared with those under the CF treatment, the natural nitrogen fixation functional communities of CFLS and CFHS increased the Shannon, PD, and Evenness indexes ( P <0.05) due to the improvement of conditions such as the increase in soil carbon storage and the decrease in acidification degree. The relative abundance of microbial communities with nitrogen fixation, carbon fixation, and plant growth promotion functions such as Ferrigenium, Sulfurivermis, Methylomonas, Methylovulum, Ectothiorhodospira , and Nostoc increased significantly ( P <0.05). In conclusion, the reduction in chemical fertilizer combined with 3 t·hm -2 and 6 t·hm -2 straw application was an effective measure to improve the community structure of soil diazotrophs and the potential of soil nitrogen fixation.

Arsenic (As) pollution has a toxic effect on crop growth, leading to reduced crop quality and yield. Therefore, it is urgent to explore safe and effective strategies to reduce its toxicity. In this experiment, hydroponics, fluorescent probe locating technology, differential centrifugation, and Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis were used to research the effect of exogenous jasmonic acid (JA) on the accumulation and stress resistance of rice seedlings. The results showed that JA application reduced the As content in the roots and shoots of rice by 31.4% and 51.4%, respectively, and significantly reduced As content in the cell wall and soluble fractions of rice roots. JA changed the distribution ratio of As in the subcellular components. The distribution ratio of As in the cell wall increased by 16.4%, and the distribution ratio of soluble fractions decreased by 17.3%. JA enhanced the fixation of As by the cell wall and reduced the As content in the soluble fraction. Furthermore, JA increased the levels of SOD, CAT, GSH, and PEPC in root cells and reduced the contents of H 2 O 2 and MDA, indicating that JA reduced lipid peroxidation damage, regulated carbon and nitrogen metabolism, and alleviated As toxicity. This research provides a new approach for the prevention and control of rice As pollution.

There is close relationship between fertilizer managements and net carbon (C) sink effect, economic benefits in rice paddy ecosystem. Based on a long-term (35-year) field experiment, we analyzed the effects of different fertilization patterns on soil C sequestration rate, C density of topsoil, annual C balance, and economic benefits in the double cropping rice paddy in southern China. There were four fertilization treatments, chemical fertilizer alone (MF), rice straw and chemical fertilizer (RF), 30% organic manure and 70% chemical fertilizer (OM), and without any fertilizer input as a control (CK). The results showed that soil C pool in the double cropping rice paddy field under different fertilization treatments changed from 216.02 to 866.74 kg·hm -2 ·a -1 , and soil C pool under OM treatment were significantly higher than that of MF, RF and CK. The soil C sequestration rates in the double cropping rice paddy field under different fertilization treatments ranged from 51.5 to 650.7 kg·hm -2 ·a -1 , and that of C density of topsoil was from 55.64 to 78.42 t·hm -2 . The order of soil C sequestration rates and C density of topsoil was OM>RF>MF>CK. The change range of C adsorption in the double cropping rice paddy field ecosystem was from 4.42 to 9.32 t C·hm -2 ·a -1 , with an order of OM>RF>MF>CK. Compared with the MF treatment, soil net C sink under OM and RF treatments increased by 27.6% and 13.6%, respectively. The change range of C cost material input ranged from 1.49 to 2.17 t C·hm -2 ·a -1 , and that of annual economic benefits was from 1.30×10 3 to 7.83×10 3 yuan·hm -2 ·a -1 with an order of RF>OM>MF>CK. The net income of economic benefits of OM, RF and MF treatments were significantly higher than that of CK. Generally, soil C sequestration rate, C sink effect and annual economic benefits were increased by the long-term application of organic manure and rice straw returning together with chemical fertilizer, which could increase soil organic carbon storage in the double cropping rice paddy field of southern China.

The lack of carbon sources severely inhibits denitrification in wastewater with a low C/N ratio. Corncob and rice straw were chosen as supplementary carbon sources to bring into the wetland system to supplement the carbon sources needed for denitrification, and the enhancing effects of the two carbon sources on nitrogen removal from the wetland were studied. The cumulative release of carbon was in the order of rice straw[(145.17±9.44) mg·g -1 ]>corncob[(57.41±5.04) mg·g -1 ] based on the 11-day pure water extraction and release experiment, whereas the cumulative release of nitrogen was in the order of rice straw[(2.31±0.09) mg·g -1 ]>corncob[(0.66±0.08) mg·g -1 ]. The average carbon/nitrogen ratios released and accumulated by corncob and rice straw during the observation period were 94.78 and 63.64, respectively. Corncob was more suited as an additional carbon source than rice straw. COD concentrations in the effluent from the corncob and straw constructed wetlands were found to be below 50 mg·L -1 for the 58-day pilot test of subsurface flow constructed wetlands, except on days 8 to 12. The NO 3 - -N removal rates of the corncob-added built wetlands were 93%-99% over the observation period, with good denitrification performance. In comparison, the lowest NO 3 - -N removal rate of the constructed wetland with the addition of rice straw was only 76.8% at the late stage of operation, and the denitrification rate dropped dramatically. The control group removal rates of NO 3 - -N were only 76.2%-77.7%, indicating a clear lack of carbon sources. The accumulation of NO 2 - -N was also induced by a lack of carbon supply. NO 2 - -N effluent concentrations were 2.5-6 times and 6-26 times higher in the constructed wetlands with rice straw and the control groups, respectively, than those in the wetlands constructed with corncob. The addition of corncob resulted in a more substantial reduction in NO 2 - -N content in the constructed wetland than the addition of rice straw ( P <0.05). The TN removal rates of wetlands constructed with corncob and rice straw and the control group were 83.75%-93.49%, 76.59%-78.85%, and 67.85%-72.56%, respectively, with significant differences among the three ( P <0.01). Finally, pretreatment with dilute alkali heating raised the cumulative carbon release of corncob to (93.73±17.49) mg·g -1 and the carbon/nitrogen ratio to 175.8, significantly improving the carbon release performance of corncob and demonstrating that it is a suitable source of extra carbon.

Chitosan loaded with silica foliar spraying material (NCSI) was prepared using natural biomass chitosan and organic silicon and was applied to Lindao 16, Nanjing 2728, Zhenghan 10, and Nongken 58 at the rice filling stage to study the effects on arsenic (As) absorption in rice. The results showed that under a 100 μmol·L -1 pentavalent arsenic[As(Ⅴ)] hydroponic environment, foliar spraying of 30 mL NCSI on leaves promoted the accumulation of As in leaves and reduced the accumulation of As in roots and grains. Among them, the As contents of Nanjing 2728, Zhenghan 10, and Nongken 58 grains were decreased by 14.44%, 21.66%, and 10.85%, respectively, compared with those of the blank group on the 3 rd day after spraying NCSI. Meanwhile, foliar spraying of NCSI improved the activities of CAT and SOD in rice leaves and increased the GSH content, indicating that the spraying of NCSI alleviated the stress of As on rice, improved the tolerance of rice to As, and reduced the toxicity of As to rice. The main mechanism of foliar application of NCSI to reduce As accumulation in rice grains may have been that NCSI induced GSH production in leaves, reducing more As(Ⅴ) to trivalent arsenic[As(Ⅲ)], thereby promoting As chelating in leaves and inhibiting As migration to grains. Therefore, foliar spraying of NCSI can be used as a foliar control technology to solve the problem of excessive As in rice and provide a scientific basis for the safe production of rice in China.

The ecological risks such as water eutrophication caused by soil phosphorus loss have attracted extensive attention, and its dynamic changes and enrichment effects are the basis for formulating reasonable control measures. In this study, based on the paddy soils of 1.8×10 6 hm 2 in Fujian province, the dynamic changes and ecological risks of available phosphorus in paddy soils over the past 40 years were analyzedusing a soil database of 1:50000. The soil database contained 1471, 215534, and 2895 paddy soil samples in different periods, respectively. The paddy soil samples were derived from the 1982 Second National Soil Census, the 2008 Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas Soil Testing and Formulated Fertilization Project and the 2018 Ministry of Agriculture, and the Rural Areas Arable Land Quality Monitoring Project, respectively. The results showed that from 1982 to 2018, the content of available phosphorus in paddy soils increased by 47 mg·kg -1 , and the enriched area reached 1.65×10 6 hm 2 , accounting for 91% of the total paddy soils in Fujian province. From 1982 to 2008, the available phosphorus content of paddy soils in Fujian province increased by 28 mg·kg -1 , with the enriched area reaching 1.47×10 6 hm 2 , accounting for 82% of the total paddy soils in Fujian province. From 2008 to 2018, the available phosphorus content of paddy soils in Fujian province increased by 19 mg·kg -1 , with the enriched area reaching 1.22×10 6 hm 2 , accounting for 69% of the total paddy soils in Fujian province. Further ecological risk assessment showed that from 2008 to 2018, the area of paddy soil with ecological phosphorus enrichment risk in the province gradually increased, mainly distributed in percogenic paddy soils and hydromorphic paddy soils with a slope of less than 2°. In the future, effective phosphorus fertilizer management measures should be formulated for different types of paddy soil to prevent the occurrence of environmental problems such as water eutrophication.

An extensive investigation of heavy metal (Cd, Hg, As, Pb, and Cr) levels in 137 pairs of soil-maize/rice samples was conducted in cultivated land from a typical karst mountain area in the Northwest of Guizhou Province. A health risk assessment model was used to assess the health risks of those areas, and the environmental benchmarks of heavy metals in soils were evaluated using the species sensitivity distribution (SSD) model. The results showed that the soils of maize and rice were polluted by heavy metals. Cd was the primary pollutant, with an exceeding rate ranging from 87% to 445%. The contaminated level of maize fields was higher than those of rice fields. In contrast, only 3.51% and 13.4% of Cd content in maize kernels and rice grains exceeded the national threshold, and the Cd heavy metal accumulation ability of rice was higher than that of maize. The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of heavy metals for adults and children in the study area were at a low level. The carcinogenic risk of rice consumption was slightly higher than that of maize, and the health risk to children was higher than that to adults. The results derived from the SSD method showed that the 95% and 5% hazardous concentrations (HC 5 and HC 95 ) of maize fields were 0.67 for Cd, 771.99 for As, 40.85 for Pb and 609.88 for Cr mg·kg -1 , and HC 95 were 48.47 for Cd, 159.67 for As, 1735.68 for Pb and 1671.74 for Cr mg·kg -1 , respectively. The HC 5 values of rice fields were 2.42 for Cd, 8.88 for As, 41.41 for Pb and 27.84 for Cr mg·kg -1 , and the HC 95 values were 48.47 for Cd, 159.67 for As, 1735.68 for Pb and 1671.74 for Cr mg·kg -1 , respectively. The HC 5 values of Cd, As, and Cr in maize fields and Cd in rice fields were significantly higher than the soil risk screening values in the current standard, and the HC 95 values of the two fields were higher than the soil risk intervened values. The results indicated that the current standard would be too strict to evaluate the actual pollution level of soil heavy metals in this area.
