Objective To observe the effect of clinical intermediate care for elderly patients. Methods According to the diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria, 200 elderly patients were randomly divided into experimental group (re = 100) and control group (n =1000). Elderly patients of tested group were managed with clinical intermediate care in hospital for 4 weeks, while patients of control group were at home. All patients were assessed 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 3 months and 6 months by comprehensive geriatric assessment after discharge. Results After intervention, indicators of comprehensive geriatric assessment in the experimental group were superior to those in the control group (P< 0.05). In the experimental group, indicators of elderly patients were continuously improved with time (P < 0.05). Conclusion Clinical intermediate care is contributive to the improvement of elderly patients' psychological states, body functions and the quality of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic mechanism of baicalin on rat brain glioma., Methods: Deep brain glioma models were established by injection of glioma cell line C6 cells into the brain of Wistar rats. The rats at 7 days after modeling were randomly divided into tumor control group (0.9% NaCl solution 30 mg×kg(-1)×d(-1) gavage)and experimental groups. The experimental rats was divided into 3 groups: low dose group (50 mg×kg(-1)×d(-1)), middle dose group (100 mg×kg(-1)×d(-1)) and high dose group (200 mg×kg(-1)×d(-1)), given the baicalin by gavage. Pathological and electron microscopic changes were observed. The expressions of p53 and Bcl-2 were determined by immunohistochemistry, and the changes of MRI, the average survival time and body weight of the rats in each group after treatments were analyzed., Results: Compared with the control group, the tumor diameter and volume of high dose group rats before sacrifice were significantly reduced (P < 0.01), and the survival time was significantly prolonged (P < 0.01). Immunohistochemistry revealed strong positive expression rate of mutant p53 (84.47 ± 3.74)% and moderately positive rate (47.28 ± 2.38)% in the control group, significantly higher than that in the negative group (12.91 ± 1.07)% (P < 0.01). The positive rate of mutant p53 of the high dose group was (46.42 ± 2.19)%, significantly lower than that of the control group (84.47 ± 3.74)% (P < 0.01). The expression rate of Bcl-2 in the control group was strongly positive (86.51 ± 4.17)% and moderate positive (48.19 ± 2.11)%, significantly higher than that of the negative group (10.36 ± 1.43)% (P < 0.01). Electron microscopy revealed that baicalin caused damages of the cell nuclei and organelles in the gliomas., Conclusions: Baicalin has significant inhibitory effect on glioma in vivo, and its mechanism may be related to cell apoptosis induced by down-regulated expression of mutant p53, but not related with Bcl-2 expression.

Objective: To evaluate the prognostic value of ST resolution (STR) measured in a single ECG lead obtained early after primary PCI in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)., Methods: In this retrospective study, STR, MACE and factors contributed to STR were analyzed in 964 patients underwent primary PCI post STEMI. The ECGs analysis was made by technicians blinded to the clinical data. MACE was compared between the STR (n = 662) and the non-STR (n = 302) groups. Factors associated with non-STR were analyzed by logistic regression method., Results: Although TIMI grade III flow was achieved after PCI, non-STR was shown in nearly 1/3 patients and these patients were older, dominant with anterior myocardial infarction, cardiac dysfunction, diabetes and was associated with a higher MACE ratio (25.5% vs. 4.4%, P < 0.001). Cox regression showed that non-STR was one of the independent predictors of in-hospital MACE (RR = 3.33, P < 0.001). Logistic regression showed that anterior myocardial infarction, the pain to balloon time, cardiac dysfunction and white blood cell count on admission were predictive factors of non-STR., Conclusions: STR obtained in a single ECG lead is an easy and important prognosticator of MACE post PCI in patients with STEMI. It could therefore be used to identify low- and high-risk STEMI patients post primary PCI.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of monitoring the neural stem cells implanted into the brain by the technique of labeling with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO)., Methods: Neural stem cells were isolated from the cerebral cortex of newborn Wister rats and cultured. SPIO particles and poly-L-lysine were added into the medium to be co-cultured foe one hour. After the formation of neurospheres, Prussian blue staining was conducted and transmission electron microscopy was used to identify the iron particles in these neural stem cells. Sixteen adult female Wistar rats underwent transplantation of labeled neural stem cells into the right side of brain and non-labeled cells were transplanted into the contralateral part as controls. 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7 weeks after the transplantation, MRI examination with the scanning sequences of SE T2WI, FSE T2WI, and GRE T2 * respectively was conducted on the brains of the rats. Four rats at each time point were killed and their brains were taken out to undergo HE staining and Prussian blue staining to track the presence of labeled-cells., Results: After the addition of SPIO the neurospheres continued to proliferate and differentiate normally. Electron microscopy showed vacuolar structures of different sizes under the cytoplasma membrane within and outside which there were high-density iron particles. Prussian blue staining showed numerous blue stained particles in the cytoplasm of the labeled cells. Remarkable low signal change was seen in the right brain transplanted with labeled cells, especially in the condition of scanning sequence of GRET2. Such change could be seen up to 7 weeks after the transplantation. No signal change was found in the left brain., Conclusion: SPIO labeling technique is useful in monitoring the outcome of transplanted neural stem cells.
