1. Fine analysis of wire breaking effect of grade 1860 steel strand.

In order to study the influence of one broken wire on the stress distribution of other wires and the overall bearing capacity of the steel strand, a solid model off 1x7 grade 1860 steel strand was established in SolidWorks. HyperMesh was applied for mesh division and ANSYS Workbench was used for analysis. Different boundary conditions and model geometry were conduced to simulate the breaking effect off the side and middle wires. The results were compared with the existing literatures to verify the correctness of the finite element analysis. The results show that the fracture of the middle wire has the effect on the stress off the steel strand, and the stress growth and distribution have the same law as before wire fracture. After the fracture of the side wire, the stress off the adjacent wire was redistributed, which leads to a greater increase of the stress of the adjacent wire; and it enters the plastic development stage easier than other wires, resulting in a greater reduction off the bearing capacity.
