Modern food microbiology is a core compulsory course of Food Science and Engineering and an important course in the teaching system of Food majors. We have conducted a research on teaching reform in response to the current problems of outdated teaching content, single teaching methods, and unscientific teaching assessment methods in curriculum teaching. We have taken multiple strategies, including introducing hot cases related to food microbiology in class to update the teaching content, encouraging students to conduct microbiological thematic discussions and presentations in class, adding feedbacks after the “homework submission-review scoring” to achieve a closed-loop teaching. After three rounds of teaching reform practice, the students’ feedback was good, and the teaching effects of modern food microbiology has been significantly improved.

In order to improve the wear resistance of the surface while maintaining the toughness of the commonly used parts in engineering, a binary-boron nitrogen alloying layer was prepared on the surface of 45 steel by laser alloying technology. The process parameters were optimized, and the microstructure and properties of the alloying layer were studied. Results showed that with the increase of laser power, scanning speed and lap ratio, the hardness of the alloying layer firstly increased and then decreased, and the maximum hardness was 954 HV2 N, 885 HV2 N and 882 HV2 N at 1.5 kW, 500 mm/min and 50%, respectively. As the content of B in B: N (mass ratio) increased, the hardness of the alloying layer increased gradually; the optimal process parameters were 1.5 kW of laser power, 500 mm/min of scanning speed, 50% of lap rate. The microstructure of the alloying zone in the coatings treated by the optimal process was composed of Fe2N, Fe2B, FeB, Fe7C3, γ-(Fe, N) and other compounds and solid solution, which were mainly columnar and cellular crystals with a thickness of about 600 μm. Furthermore, the average hardness was 1 023 HV2 N, and the heat affected zone was composed of a small amount of acicular martensite and retained austenite with a thickness of about 250 μm. The hardness distribution was gradient from 967 HV2 N to 265 HV2 N. In addition, the friction coefficient of the alloying layer was about 0.451 9, and the wear rate was 0.423 1×10-14 m3/(N·m), which was about 1/9 of that of the substrate. Besides, the wear mechanism was abrasive wear accompanied by adhesive wear.

Link prediction aims to predict unknown links using available network topology information.Prediction methods based on paths perform well in undirected networks.However,paths of the same length have different node connection strength due to different type of links through the path in directed network.Traditional methods is difficult to distinguish the path heterogeneity.Given this,the difference in the strength of three types of directed links is first quantified in terms of the link weight matrix,then the connection strength of different heterogeneous classpaths between nodes is calculated and the effect of different paths under the same length path is distinguished.Finally,a directed network link prediction method based on the path connection strength is proposed by integrating the contribution of multi-order paths of different lengths.Validation of 9 real networks shows that accounting for differences in path connection strength effectively improves prediction performance under the AUC and Precision metrics.

BACKGROUND Cadmium is a volatile element with chalcophile affinity. In the marine environment, Cd is a micronutrient element, while in the ecological environment and agricultural soil environment, Cd is a toxic element. Therefore, Cd isotopes have been used in marine science, earth science, environmental science, and agricultural scientific research, and show great application potential. OBJECTIVES To summarize the high-precision analytical technology and applications of Cd isotopes in different research fields. METHODS The recent research progress in digestion methods, separation and purification of Cd, and double-spikes calibration methods for organic matter-rich environmental samples, plant samples and biological samples were summarized. RESULTS For organic matter-rich samples including environmental, plant and biological samples, microwave digestion, high-pressure ashing and perchloric acid digestion can eliminate the influence of organic matter in Cd isotope analysis. Combined AG MP-1(M) resin with hydrochloric acid leaching system can effectively separate the matrix and interfering elements, which will not result in Cd isotope fractionation. The precision of Cd isotope with 111Cd-113Cd isotope double-spike correction was around 0.1εCd/amu. The application of Cd isotopes in marine science, geoscience, environmental science, and agricultural science were also summarized in this paper. Cadmium isotopes were used successfully for building marine biological geochemistry cycles, inversion of ancient marine environments and primary productivity change. In sulfide deposits, Cd isotopes were used to trace the evolution of ore fluids and the source of ore metals, and to discriminate different deposit types. In environmental systems, Cd isotopes were applied to distinguish Cd pollution sources, and to investigate Cd sources, migration, circulation and storage mechanisms in agricultural sciences. CONCLUSIONS The research of the high-precision Cd isotope analytical method and Cd isotope fractionation mechanism and model, will promote to establishment the tracer system of Cd isotope biogeochemistry fractionation and innovative development of non-traditional stable isotope geochemistry.

Four main phenylethylamines in exercise dietary supplements were identified and detected by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In this study, chromatographic separation or sample pretreatment was not required. Phenylethylamine, synephrine, methyl cinnflin and malt alkaloids were identified from 20 kinds of dietary supplements sold on the market and online. In addition, a nuclear magnetic resonance quantitative method for simultaneous multiplex determination of phenylethylamines was established and verified. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious postoperative complication of cardiac surgery. Although it has sufficient evidence that statins can reduce the all-cause mortality, it is still uncertain the effects of perioperative statins on the acute kidney injury after coronary bypass surgery. There has not been a consensus for the medication time window and the dose of statins among the scholars who support perioperative statin use. The study summarizes the effects of perioperative statins on the acute kidney injury after coronary bypass surgery based on the analysis of the role of statins in prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease, as well as the studies about the relationship between statins' time window and the dosage and the effect of patients' kidney function after surgery. For the multi-cell WiMAX network, the suitable co-channel interference (CCI) model is utilized firstly to solve resource allocation problem which is subject to power and bandwidth constraint. Then, the joint bandwidth and power allocation scheme is proposed based on different resource allocation strategies which are the maximization of the sum capacity of all users, the maximization of the worst user capacity and the minimization of the total power consumption of all users respectively. Simulations results show that the proposed scheme can increase the system capacity and reduce power consumption compared with the convention resource allocation method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The detection method of trace amounts of cadmium was established based on thiol functionalized graphene modified glassy carbon electrode. The graphene oxide prepared by Hummers method was modified through bromoacetic acid carboxylation, hydrazine reduction, acylation reaction, and then reacted with 2-mercaptoethanol to produce thiol functionalized graphene. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the produced functionalized graphene. Heavy metal sensor was prepared by thiol functionalized graphene modified glassy carbon electrode. Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were employed to study the electrochemical behavior of the modified electrode. Combined modified glassy carbon electrode with differential pulse stripping voltammetry, a method for detecting trace amounts of cadmium was established. The results showed that at optimal conditions, the linear calibration curves ranged from 1×10-9-150×10-9 for Cd2+ with the linear correlation coefficient of 0.993, the detection limit was estimated to be around 0.015×10-9 (S/N = 3) and it also showed a good reproducibility (RSD = 1.67%, n = 11). Due to the fact that there are more performance degradation data and less life data during development, producing, test and running, this paper provides a Bayes method to obtain the life distribution through fusing the two kinds of data, and the reliability assessment method based on performance parameters. At first, we obtain the noninformative prior distribution of the drift and volatity parameters of the Wiener process by using fisher information. And then, by using the degradation data, this paper gives the first posterior distribution based on the independent Gaussian increment, and the second posterior distribution based on the inverse life distribution by using the life data. The proposed approach is used to assess the reliability of spaceflight longlife product in the end. The results show that the new approach can improve the precision of assessment greatly. When warship acts against underwater near-field explosion and coupling resonant motion takes place, the damage characteristics of the warship deserves an advanced research. A box-like beam was designed as an object floating on water, and a numerical simulation method was presented to study on the dynamic response of the beam subjected to underwater explosion located closely. Finally, experiments were carried out to verify the simulation method. The results show that numerical results agree well with experimental ones, and it proves the method reasonable. When the first-order mode frequency of beam is close to that of underwater explosion bubble oscillation, with the increase of the ratio of stand-off to maximum bubble radius, the response mode of beam will take a change from plastic bending in sagging condition into elastic whipping motion. PURPOSE: To study the relationship between ultrasonographic thickness and EMG activity of the masseter muscle in subjects with different vertical craniofacial morphology. METHODS: Thirty female students were separated into two groups (14 cases with high-angle, 16 cases with low-angle) based on SN-MP angle ,FH-MP angle, and FHI. The thickness of the masseter muscle under related conditions and during maximal clenching was assessed by ultrasonography, EMG activity of the masseter muscle under relaxed conditions and during maximal clenching was recorded with bipolar surface electrodes. All measurements were analyzed with SPSS 11.0 software package. Differences between groups were tested for statistical significance using Student's t test. The relationship between masseter muscle thickness and its EMG activity was estimated by Pearson's correlation coefficient. RESULTS : The thickness of the masseter muscle in the low-angle individuals was significantly greater than that in the high-angle individuals under relaxed conditions (P=0.009) and during maximal clenching (P=0.000). Although there was no significant difference in resting EMG activity between the two groups, the EMG activity of masseter muscle in the low-angle individuals was also significantly higher than that in the high-angle individuals during maximal clenching (P=0.022). Relaxed thickness of masseter muscle was significantly correlated with its mean maximum EMG activity in the low-angle group (r=0.61. P=0.003) and moderately correlated with that in the high-angle group (r=0.38. P=0.023). Similar correlation was found between contracted thickness of masseter muscle and the metro maximum EMG activity, being significantly correlated in the low-angle group (r=0.73, P=0.002) and moderately correlated in the high-angle group (r=0.53, P=0.006). CONCLUSIONS: The present findings support the concept that subjects with different vertical craniofacial morphology have different form and function of masseter muscle. Aiming at the problem that the traditional stereoscopic video coding technology had lower compression rate, poor stability, higher color distortion, a new three-division video encoding technical method was proposed based on QNX. The scalable video encoding algorithm was used,field frequency division complementary color encoding prototype was designed. Video signal which was processed by the vertical frequency of the octave field was transmitted by sharing complementary color field. The experiments showed that this method could not only render picture frames smoothly to the left-right viewpoint, but also enhance the sense of immersion of stereoscopic television effectively. Objective: To investigate the effect of PPP2R5C to the activity of Molt-4 cells in childhood acute T lymphocytic leukemia and its mechanism., Methods: The small interfering RNA (siRNA) technology targeting PPP2R5C gene was used to down-regulate the expression of PPP2R5C in Molt-4 cells. At the same time, a blank control group, a negative control group and a 17-DMAG group were set up. The cells in the negative control group were transfected with siRNA-NC, the cells in 17-DMAG group were treated with the HSP90 inhibitor 17-DMAG at a final concentration of 6.4 μmol/L for 48 h. Real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and Western blot were used to detect transfection efficiency; CCK-8 method was used to detect the proliferation activity of the cells in each group, EdU was used to detect the proliferation level of the cells in each group, flow cytometry was used to detect the cell cycle distribution ratio of the cells in each group, Annexin V-FITC/PI staining was used to detect the apoptosis of the cell, RT-qPCR and Western blot were used to detect the expression changes of heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) and glucocorticoid receptor (GR) of the cells in each group., Results: After Molt-4 cells were transfected with siRNA-PPP2R5C, the expression of PPP2R5C mRNA and protein in the cells were down-regulated significantly compared with those in the blank control group and the si-NC group (P<0.05); compared with cells in the blank control group and the si-NC group, the proliferation activity of the cells in the siRNA-PPP2R5C group and the 17-DMAG group significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the rate of EdU positive cells was significantly reduced (P<0.05); the proportion of the cells in G1 phase decreased while the proportion of the cells in G 2 phase increased (P<0.05), the apoptosis rate of the cells also increased significantly (P<0.05); in addition, the expression of PPP2R5C mRNA and protein of the cells in siRNA-PPP2R5C group was significantly down-regulated compared with those in the blank control group and si-NC group (P<0.05). The expressions of PPP2R5C mRNA and protein in the 17-DMAG group were also significantly down-regulated compared with those in the blank control group and si-NC group (P<0.05)., Conclusion: Down-regulation of PPP2R5C gene expression can inhibit Molt-4 cell activity in childhood acute T lymphocytic leukemia, block the cells in G 2 phase, and promote cell apoptosis, the mechanism may be related to the inhibition of HSP90-GR signaling pathway.

Professor ZHENG Liang believes that the main pathogenesis of postoperative facial paralysis is related to the retarded circulation of qi and blood and malnutrition of tendons and vessels in local area because of local retention of "stasis" after surgical trauma. In treatment of postoperative facial paralysis with acupotomy, the abnormal facial structure after operation should be considered specially. The region where acupotomy is exerted is determined by taking surgical scar as the center so that the local adhesion can be released and separated. In treatment, the knife needle should be as fine as possible and the attention be paid to the direction of needle insertion and the release amplitude. The frequency of acupotomy should be once per week.

Resina Draconis, a rare and precious traditional medicine in China, is known as the &quot;holy medicine for promoting blood circulation&quot;. According to the national drug standard, it's derived from the resin extracted from the wood of Dracaena cochinchinensis, a Liliaceae plant. In addition, a variety of Dracaena species all over the world can form red resins, and there is currently no molecular identification method that can efficiently identify the origin of Dracaena medicinal materials. In this study, seven species of Dracaena distributed in China were selected as the research objects. Four commonly used DNA barcodes(ITS2, matK, rbcL and psbA-trnH), and four highly variable regions(trnP-psaJ, psbK-psbI, trnT-trnL, clpP) in chloroplast genome were used to evaluate the identification efficiency of Dracaena species. The results showed that clpP sequence fragment could accurately identify seven species of Dracaena plants. However, due to the long sequence of clpP fragment, there were potential problems in the practical application process. We found that the combined fragment &quot;psbK-psbI+ trnP-psaJ&quot; can also be used for accurate molecular identification of the Resina Draconis origin plants and relative species of Dracaena, which were both relatively short sequences in the combined fragment, showing high success rates of amplification and sequencing. Therefore, the &quot;psbK-psbI+ trnP-psaJ&quot; combined fragment can be used as the DNA barcode fragments for molecular identification of Resina Dracon's origin plants and relative species of Dracaena. Research on the identification of Dracaena species, the results of this study can be used to accurately identify the original material of Resina Draconis, and providing effective means for identification, rational development and application of Resina Draconis base source.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of vascularized free fibular flap in repairing segmental mandibular defects., Methods: Eighty patients with segmental mandibular defects treated in our hospital from June 2015 to May 2018 were enrolled. Both groups of patients were operated by the same group of medical staff with more than 5 years of clinical experience. Patients were divided into 2 groups using a random number table method, 40 in each group. Patients in the control group underwent non-vascularized iliac bone graft while patients in the experimental, group underwent vascularized free fibular bone flap repair. The graft survival, pain, quality of life, negative emotions and complications were compared between the two groups using SPSS 22.0 software package., Results: There was no significant difference in the scores of the proximal gingival papilla, distal gingival papilla, labial margin and labial margin (P>0.05). The gingival texture, color score and total score of the root surface of the experimental group were significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05). The scores of VAS, anxiety and depression in both groups were significantly decreased after operation, but the decrease in the experimental group was greater(P<0.05). Physical function, psychological and social function, life quality of the two groups were significantly increased, but the increase of the experimental group was greater (P<0.05).Three cases (7.5%) developed complications in the control group, including 1 case of pneumonia, 1 case of infection and 1 case of wound recurrence. Two cases(5%) in the experimental group developed of complications, including 1 case of wound recurrence and 1 case of pneumonia, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05)., Conclusions: Repair of mandibular segmental defect with vascularized free fibular bone flap can significantly improve the overall effect, relieve pain and negative emotion, improve quality of life of patients and decrease incidence of complications.

The study aims at exploring the composition and characteristics of the medicinal plant resources of six major ethnic minorities living in Xishuangbanna, as well as the characteristics of traditional utilization of ethnic medicine, and promote the rational protection and inheritance and utilization of ethnic medicine resources and traditional knowledge. Based on the fourth survey of traditional Chinese medicine resources in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan province, through the methods of literature collection, interviewing and field investigation, this paper analyzed the data of the types, medicinal parts and attending diseases of medicinal plant resources of Dai, Hani, Jinuo, Wa, Lahu and Bulang nationalities. The results showed that there were 1 048 medicinal plant resources of the six ethnic minorities, and the medicinal plants were 735, 497, 272, 295, 280 and 49 in the six nationalities, respectively. The cross-use of medicinal plants among the six nationalities accounted for 62.45%, 78.07%, 88.60%, 87.46%, 82.25% and 95.92%, respectively. The main medicinal plants used by the six major ethnic minorities are root and rhizome, whole grass, leaf and stem. Various ethnic medicinal plants are mainly used in the treatment of diseases of digestive system, respiratory system, rheumatic disease, trauma, snake and insect bite and other external diseases. This study showed that Xishuangbanna has rich resources of ethnic medicinal plants. The ethnic medicine culture with Dai medicine as the main part has a long history and diversified theories, forming a unique ethnic characteristic culture. However, all ethnic medicine resources and the application of traditional knowledge are faced with the risk of gradually decreasing, it is suggested to strengthen the mining, Xishuangbanna folk medicine of ethnic culture protection and inheri-tance, and to develop regional economy and the international community has a positive influence.

Professor YANG Wen - hui 's clinical experience of treating alopecia areata with combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbs based on yingwei theory was summarized. Professor YANG divides alopecia areata into ying qi disease and wei qi disease. Alopecia areata belonging to wei disease locates in the meridians and is related to the heart, spleen and stomach. Acupuncture is chosen when the disease locates in the skin and meridians. If both viscera and meridians suffered, acupuncture and Chinese herbs should be combined. As for the acupuncture, professor qi disease locates on the skin and is related to the lung and kidney, and belonging to ying qi disease locates in the meridians and is related to the heart, spleen and stomach. Acupuncture is chosen when the disease locates in the skin and meridians. If both viscera and meridians suffered, acupuncture and Chinese herbs should be combined. As for the acupuncture, professor YANG used the method of harmonizing yingwei . As for the Chinese herbs, yingwei disease can be washed out by Chinese herbs of relieving exterior wind and activating meridians and collaterals. The yingwei disease can be washed out by Chinese herbs in mild condition, and long course of disease can be given Guizhi decoction as the base, add or subtract according to syndrome.yingwei . As for the Chinese herbs, wei qi disease can be washed out by Chinese herbs of relieving exterior wind and activating meridians and collaterals. The ying qi disease can be washed out by Chinese herbs in mild condition, and long course of disease can be given Guizhi decoction as the base, add or subtract according to syndrome.

In December 2019, an outbreak of viral pneumonia began in Wuhan, Hubei Province, which caused the spread of infectious pneumonia to a certain extent in China and neighboring countries and regions, and triggered the epidemic crisis. The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) is an acute respiratory infectious disease listed as a B infectious disease, which is managed according to standards for A infectious disease. Traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine have played an active role in the prevention and control of this epidemic. China's ethnomedicine has recognized infectious diseases since ancient times, and formed a medical system including theory, therapies, formula and herbal medicines for such diseases. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, Tibet Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Chuxiong Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan, Qiandongnan Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou have issued the prevention and control programs for COVID-19 using Tibetan, Mongolian, Uygur, Yi and Miao medicines. These programs reflect the wisdom of ethnomedicine in preventing and treating diseases, which have successfully extracted prescriptions and preventive measures for the outbreak of the epidemic from their own medical theories and traditional experiences. In this paper, we summarized and explained the prescriptions and medicinal materials of ethnomedicine in these programs, and the origin of Tibetan medicine prescriptions and Mongolian medicine prescriptions in ancient books were studied. These become the common characteristics of medical prevention and treatment programs for ethnomedicine to formulate therapeutic programs under the guidance of traditional medicine theories, recommend prescriptions and prevention and treatment methods with characteristics of ethnomedicine, and focus on the conve-nience and standardization. However, strengthening the support of science and technology and the popularization to the public, and improving the participation of ethnomedicine in national public health services and the capacity-building to deal with sudden and critical diseases are key contents in the development of ethnomedicine in the future.

Objective: To investigate the effect of daunorubicin on the number and procoagulant activity of Microparticles derived from acute promyelocytic leukemia(APL) cells., Methods: APL cells were isolated from bone Marrow of 5 newly diagnosed APL patients, the bone marrow mononuclear cells were collected from 5 patients with iron deficiency anemia as control.APL cells were treated with different concentration of daunorubicin(0.1,0.5,1.0 and 2.0µmol/L) for 24 h. Microparticles were extracted from the cell culture medium for qualitative anaysis of the extracted microparticles.The morphologic features of the microparticles were observed by transmission electron microscopy.The number of microparticles was detected by flow cytometry.The procoagulant activity of microparticles was measured by recalcification time assays., Results: Under a transmission electron microscope, theextracted microparticles took a round or oval morphology with a transparent center,and their diameters were arund 100nm, consistent with the morphological characteristics of microparticles. Compared with bone marrow mononuclear cells-derived microparticles,the counts of the bone marrow APL cells-derived microparticles significantly increased(P<0.05).Daunorubicin increased the shedding of microparticles in a dose-dependent manner(r=0.73,P<0.01).Compared with normal bone marrow mononuclear cells-derived microparticles,bone marrow APL cells-derived microparticles showed higher procoagulant activity(P<0.05).Daunorubicin treatment enhanced the prccoagulant activity of APL cells-derived microparticles which paralleled the increasing drug concentrations(r=-0.78,P<0.01)., Conclusion: Daunorubicin can promote the release of APL cells-derived microparticles and enhance their related procoagulan activity.

Based on plant species databases, species lists and literature records, general situation of the Chinese medicinal endemic plant (vascular plant) has been systematically summarized, and its quantity and distribution characteristics of Chinese medicinal endemic plants are presented in this paper. The results showed that 3 150 endemic species are Chinese medicinal plants belonging to 785 genera in 153 families, which includes 38 species of 22 genera in 12 families of pteridophyta, 42 species of 14 genera in7 families of gymnosperms, and 3 070 species of 749 genara in 134 families of angiosperms. The top four families involving medicinal endemic species are Asteraceae (218 species), Ranunculaceae (182 species), Labiatae (151 species), and Liliaceae (133 species). The top four provincial administration distributed medicinal endemic species are Sichuan (1 568 species), Yunnan (1 533 species), Guizhou (955 species) and Hubei (930 species).On the regional scale, the most abundant one is the southwest region (2 465 species), followed by the central region (1 226 species) and the northwest region (949 species). This paper was aimed to study the effects of icariin (ICA) on the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), and the molecular mechanism of the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and MAPK signaling pathway. In this study, VSMC was induced by ox-LDL (50 mg•L⁻¹),the effect of ICA on the proliferation of VSMC was detected by MTT assay, Western blot and Real-time PCR. The results showed that after stimulation of ox-LDL, the proliferation activity of VSMC was increased, S phase, G₂/M phase cells were increased, G₀/G₁ phase cells were decreased, PCNA protein expression was enhanced; ICA (40, 20, 10 μmol•L⁻¹) could effectively inhibit ox-LDL-induced VSMC proliferation, S phase and G₂/M phase cells were decreased, the percentage of cells in G₀/G₁ phase were increased, PCNA expression was decreased, p38MAPK and ERK1/2 activation were inhibited. In order to find out the composition, characteristics and traditional utilization characteristics of Dai medicine and promote the rational protection, inheritance and utilization of the resources and traditional knowledge of Dai medicine in China, the resources of traditional Dai medicine have been investigated systematically and the traditional knowledge of Dai medicine have been analyzed in the article. We found out that there were altogether 1 077 kinds of traditional Dai medicine in China and among which 272 were the first time recorded in the condition of Dai folk medical uses. There were 1 053 plant medicines which belong to 169 family and 694 genus. These plant medicines mainly distributed in the southern, west southern and east southern area of Yunnan province, the southern area of Guangxi, Guangdong, Guizhou, Sichuan, Fujian province and tropical, subtropical district as Taiwan, and more than 94.49% plant medicines could be found in Yunnan province. From the point of plant life form, they were major herbaceous or shrubby plants; When it is used as medicinal part, root and rhizome of plants account for the highest proportion, the next were whole plant and leaves. From nature, flavor and channel tropism points of view, the largest proportion of Dai medicines were cool, bitter-tasted and possesses water element. In terms of treatment of disease types, most of the drugs can treat gastrointestinal diseases, next were drugs that could be used to treat upper respiratory infection, traumatological and rheumatic diseases, urinary infection, gynecological diseases, hepatopathy, puerperium fever and diseases caused by poisonous insects and beast of prey bite. The study revealed that the resources of traditional Dai medicine and traditional knowledge of application were abundant in China, but the resources of traditional Dai medicine and traditional knowledge of application were faced with the risk of gradually reduce and loss. In recent years, with the price rise of Amomum villosum, the quality of A. villosum in the market has been in disorder. To understand the quality status of A. villosum in the market and provide reference for the commercial size fifty-seven samples were collected from different producing areas or markets from August 2013. The samples were detected with evaluation on appearance quality, determination of the contents of bornyl acetate, determination of pesticide residues and heavy metals residues based on Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2015. The results showed that the pesticide residues and heavy metals residues met the requirments, all the samples from different producing areas were qualified except one sample from Fujian province. The qualified rate of native products and imports products samples from market were 43.75% and 14.29%, respectively, the qualified rate of the samples of Yunnan province from producing areas was higher than that from the market. There are two ports at the national level in Yunnan province, where the southern herbs from. A. villosumis one of import medicines from Southeast Asia, and lots of A. villosum samples import to China from Yunnan ports. Most of pharmacists believed that all of the samples from Yunnan province produced in Yunnan. The great majority of commercial species was A. villosum, but A. longiliglare was scarce. Through the survey, it isfound that the main factors affecting the quality of Amomi Fructus was source, lots of A. villosum samples have been replaced by the Amomi Fructus, so the source of imports Amomi Fructus was not clear, which was also more difficult to identify. Echinococcosis is an important communicable disease that has remarkable impacts on the global health. The disease is highly endemic in western China. In the last decades, achievements were obtained for the surgery and drug therapies for echinococcosis, as well as for studies on genomics, signaling pathways, and liver proliferation and injury of the intermediate hosts. Although steps have entered vaccine development, challenges remainin immunodiagnosis and drug treatment for intermediate hosts, and in vaccine development for definitive hosts. This paper gives an overview on the current achievements and challenges for echinococcosis control.

The sequences of ITS, matK, rbcL and psbA-trnH of 9 Gynostemma species or variety including 38 samples were compared and analyzed by molecular phylogeny method. Hemsleya macrosperma was designated as outgroup. The MP and NJ phylogenetic tree of Gynostemma was built based on ITS sequence, the results of PAUP phylogenetic analysis showed the following results: (1) The eight individuals of G. pentaphyllum var. pentaphyllum were not supported as monophyletic in the strict consensus trees and NJ trees. (2) It is suspected whether G. longipes and G. laxum should be classified as the independent species. (3)The classification of subgenus units of Gynostemma plants is supported.

Objective: To provide a reference for the development and utilization of Dai medicine by investigate the present situation and existing problems of traditional Dai medicine., Method: Combined with the previous relevant investigations and literature in the field, the key and the development direction of traditional Dai medicine were analyzed., Result: The textual research, history, species, distribution, endangered resources, protection status etc. were elaborated and the key strategy of further investigation was expounded., Conclusion: Dai medicine resources should strengthen the basic research, such as the protection of traditional knowledge, the textual research, quality standard, chemical composition, biological activity, exploration of medicinal resources, especially monographic study on protection of major endangered medicinal resources should be intensified, which will be rise the level of development and utilization of Dai medicine resources.

Objective: To correlate the characteristic images of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE) in rats using contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) and microvascular density (MVD) in the surrounding invasion range of HAE lesions., Methods: Thirty Wistar rats were infected with Echinococcus multolocularis suspension (approximately 800 protoscoleces in 0.2 ml per rat) through abdominal opening injection in liver. Three months after the inoculation, rats with hepatic E. multilocularis infection were examined by conventional and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography. The location, size, shape, boundary, inner echogenicity, and blood flow of the lesions, signal intensity and dynamic enhancement pattern were recorded. The positive rats were sacrificed and their livers were obtained. The structure of HAE lesions was observed by HE staining. Immunohistochemistry staining was performed on the infiltrative region of HAE lesion and the expression of CD34 in the surrounding hepatic parenchyma. Scoring was based on the percentage of positively stained cells and stain intensity. The correlation of MVD and the characteristic images of HAE using CEUS was analyzed., Results: Twenty-three Wistar rats with hepatic E. multilocularis infection were killed, and 27 HAE lesions was found. The largest diameter of HAE lesion was 2.24 cm, and the average size was (0.97 +/- 0.48) cm. The shape of HAE lesions was round, oval, or irregular. HAE lesions presented a complex internal echo pattern. Spot-like color flow signal was observed in the tissues around the lesions, no blood flow signal was observed in HAE lesions. In 25 lesions, a circular rim-like enhancement belt was visualized at the periphery during early arterial phase, and honeycomb enhancement appeared in the other two lesions. The positive expression rate of CD34 in infiltrative zones surrounding HAE lesions was 99.2% (118/119), with 17.6% (21/119) of strong positive, 73.1% (87/119) of moderate positive, 8.4% (10/119) of weak positive, and 0.8% (1/119) of negative, respectively. In normal liver tissues, the positive expression rate of CD34 was 25.2% (30/119), no strong positive was found, with 4.2% (5/119) of moderate positive, 21.0% (25/119) of weak positive, and 74.8% (89/119) of negative, respectively. The sonographic infiltrative region in HAE lesion correlated with microvascular density (r = 0.238, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between the circular rim-like enhancement belt surrounding HAE lesions and the microvascular density in the rat model.

Objective: To identify the original plant of "Daibaijie", commonly used Dai herb., Method: The literature review, morphology and anatomy, pharmacognosy, molecular biology, chemistry were used to analysis., Result: Daibaijie's historical scientific name, Dregea sinensis Hemsl., was mistakenly given "Daibaijie" and D. sinensis have significant differences from the distribution, morphology and anatomy, pharmacognosy, molecular biology and chemical composition. "Daibaijie" matches with the characteristics of Marsdenia tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon in Flora of China in English., Conclusion: Daibaijie's original plant is M. tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon. The description and illustration of M. tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon in Flora of China in China are wrong. The illustration of M. tenacissima in Flora of China in English is wrong too.

Six kinds of saponins (I, II, VII, PA, H) content of 22 samples of Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis collected from different regions of Yunnan province were determined by HPLC, data was analyzed by SPSS 17. The results showed that the effect of altitude on saponin content was not significant, and the effect of growth area of saponins in P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis was significant, saponin content in sample from west Yunnan was significantly higher than that of samples from other regions.

Objective: To provide an identification method for the roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata and its three counterfeits., Methods: Macroscopic identification and microscopic identification of root transverse section and powder were carried out to distinguish these four species., Results: For macroscopic characteristics, Saposhnikoviae Radix and its counterfeits can be distinguished by the head of the residual leaf and sections. As for microscopic identification, the feature was not obvious. But there were some differences to distinguish them,such as the number of cork layer, cambium was evident or not, the number of the xylem catheter,the presence or absence of large oil pipe and longitudinal cracks between the part from cortex to xylem., Conclusion: This is a simple and accurate method for distinguish Saposhnikoviae Radix and its counterfeits.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of human and ovine hepatic hydatid disease in Hobukesar Mongolian Autonomous County of Xinjiang (HMACX)and to evaluate the related strategies for prevention and control of the disease., Methods: A prevalence screening method was used to screen local residents and sheep for hydatid disease in HMACX. Based on B ultrasound images, the screening programs on people and sheep in different sites were carried and the findings were comparatively analyzed., Results: Findings of B ultrasound images through screening program among human beings showed that the positive rates of hydatid diseases 4.4% (23/521), of cystic echinococcosis and alveolar echinococcosis as 4.0% (21/521) and 0.8% (4/521)respectively. The infection rate on sheep was 3.8% (7/180). The positive rates of human and ovine hepatic hydatid disease in Township Chagangule were higher than in other areas. There was no significant statistical difference noticed on human positive rates between Township Chagangule and other areas. Statistically, significant difference for positive rate in ovine was seen between Township Chagangule and Township Bayinaowa(χ(2) = 4.8259, P = 0.0280). As intermediate host of hydatid disease, the infection rate in sheep was higher than that in human beings at Township Chagangule., Conclusion: HMACX remained a highly endemic area for human and ovine hydatid disease.

Objective: To optimize extraction techniques for genistein in Flemingia macrophylla by using response surface method., Methods: Based on the single factor experiment, extraction temperature, extraction time and solvent ratio served as the response factor while the extraction rate of genistein served as the response value. Based on multiple linear regression and binomial expression, response surface method was employed to optimize the extracting process, and predicative analysis was conducted., Results: The effects of factors in the descending order were as follows: extraction temperature, extraction time and solvent ratio. The optimal extraction technology was as follows: extraction temperature 80 degrees C, extraction time 3.5 h and solvent ratio 20 mL/g. Under these conditions, the extraction rate of genistein reached 0.161 mg/g., Conclusion: The results are agreed with model predictions. The technology can be used as the extraction process of genistein in Flemingia macrophylla.

According to National Census for Water, National Population Census, National Land and Resources Survey, and work experience of experimental measures for national Chinese materia medica resources(CMMR) survey,the national CMMR survey at the county level is the key point of whole survey, that includes organization and management, field survey, sorting data three key links. Organization and management works of national CMMR survey needs to finish four key contents, there are definite goals and tasks, practicable crew, preparation directory, and security assurance. Field survey works of the national CMMR survey needs to finish five key contents, there are preparation works for field survey, the choice of the key survey area (samples), fill in the questionnaire, video data collection, specimen and other physical collection. Sorting data works of the national CMMR survey needs to finish tree key contents, there are data, specimen and census results.

Objective: To establish microscopic identification standards for four species from Uncaria genus., Methods: The microscopic characteristics of transvers section and powder of these four species rattan were observed., Results: As for these four species from Uncaria genus, the microscopic identification of rattan transvers section could be made by the existence of cork cambium and pericycle in the cortex, and the location of phloem fiber and stone cells, while the powder identification could be made according to the existence of scalariform vessel and calcium oxalate crystal, and the quantity of stone cells., Conclusion: The microscopic characteristics of rattan can provide information for identification of these four species from Uncaria genus.

Objective: To observe the expression of indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase (IDO) in dendritic cells (DCs) via different Echinococcus granulosus antigens in vitro., Methods: Bone Marrow DCs generated from bone marrow precursor cells of C57BL/6 mice and cultured in the presence of recombinant mouse GM-CSF (rmGM-CSF). Then, DCs were induced with 15 microg/ml recombinant antigen B (rAgB), 5 mg/ml mouse hydatid fluid (MHF), 1,000 U/ml IFN-gamma (as positive control), and RPMI 1640 complete medium (as negative control), respectively. Meanwhile, the treated DCs and cell supernatants were collected at 18, 24 and 48 h after induction. The positive expressions of D40, CD80, CD86 and I- A/I-E on DCs were determined by flow cytometry. By real-time fluorescent quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (FQ-RT-PCR), the expression level of IDO mRNA in DCs was measured. Concentrations of tryptophan (Try) were tested by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay in cell supernatant., Results: The data from flow cytometry showed that the positive expressions of CD40, CD80, CD86, I-A/I-E were decreased after stimulated by rAgB and MHF. At 24 h after induction, there was significant difference in the level of CD40, CD86 and I-A/I-E among rAgB-treated group [(22.60 +/- 2.69)%, (35.50 +/- 4.38)%, (57.30 +/- 4.38)%], MHF-treated group [(38.00 +/- 3.54)%, (53.00 +/- 3.39)%, (77.10 +/- 1.70)%] and negative control [(37.95 +/- 3.61)%, (19.55 +/- 1.06)% and (85.45 +/-1.63)%] (P < 0.05). At 18, 24 and 48 h after induction, the levels of IDO mRNA in rAgB-treated group [(9.20 +/- 0.01), (29.44 +/- 0.02), (16.48 +/- 0.04)] and MHF-treated group [(9.67 +/- 0.02), (17.52 +/- 0.01), (16.81 +/- 0.01)] was higher than that of negative control group [(2.46 +/- 0.01), (7.77 +/- 0.01), and (10.56 +/- 0.01)] (P < 0.01). And significant difference was found between rAgB-treated group and MHF-treated group (P < 0.05). At 18, 24 and 48 h after induction, the concentrations of Try were lowest in rAgB-treated group [(23.65 +/- 0.64), (13.95 +/- +1.06), (19.0 +/- 00.64) micro.mol/L]. At 24h after induction, Try concentration in negative control group (22.9 +/- 0.14) was higher than that of MHF-treated group (20.65 +/- 0.34) ( P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Under in vitro condition, rAgB and MHF can up-regulate IDO expression. The ability of rAgB to up-regulate IDO activity was stronger than that of MHF at 24 h after induction.

Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) plays an important role in immune response and the polymorphism in it might affect protein signaling and host resistance/susceptibility to disease. This study was designed to characterize the functional relevance of 3 nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), c.611 T>A (p.Leu204His), c.1027 C>A (p.Gln343Lys), and c.1605 G>T (p.Leu535Phe), which were selected based on our previous studies. RT-PCR method was used to clone the complete coding sequence of porcine TLR4 gene and the PCR-based method was used to introduce the point mutation. The effects of 3 SNPs on the ligand recognition and signaling of porcine TLR4 were investigated in transiently transfected PK-15 cells using dual-luciferase reporter system and Western blotting method. At the same time, the distribution of c.1605 G>T among pig populations composed of Min pig, Yorkshire, Landrace, and Wild boar from northeastern China was studied by created restriction site PCR-RFLP method. The complete coding sequence of TLR4 gene in Min pig and 3 variants with single point mutations were obtained. Eukaryotic expression vectors containing different alleles of porcine TLR4 were constructed. SNP c.1605 G>T significantly decreased the TLR4 signaling (P<0.01) and the polymorphism only existed in Min pig and Wild boar from northeastern China with high frequencies. SNP c.1605 G>T in porcine TLR4 might affect the receptor function and host resistance/susceptibility to diseases.

Objective: To observe expression pattern of aquaporin 4 (AQP4) in brain tissue of severely scalded rabbit during early stage of brain edema and its relationship with signal changes in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and to explore the feature of water transmembrane transportation in brain edema at early stage after severe scald., Methods: Thirty-five healthy New Zealand white rabbits were divided into control group (C, n = 5) and scald group (S, n = 30) according to the random number table. Rabbits in S group were inflicted with 50% TBSA full-thickness scald with brain edema (confirmed by histopathologic examination). At post scald hour (PSH) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, signal change in cerebral MRI, as well as dynamic change in apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) were examined in rabbits of S group. Specimens were harvested from frontal cortex, parietal cortex, temporal lobe cortex, basal ganglia, and cerebellum in rabbits of S group for determination of protein and gene expressions of AQP4 with immunohistochemical method and RT-PCR. Above-mentioned indexes were also determined in C group. Data were processed with one-way analysis of variance and linear correlation analysis (between protein expression of AQP4 and ADC value)., Results: There was no significant change in image signal of MRI at each time point in S group as compared with that in C group, including T1WI, T2WI, and DWI. Compared with those in C group, ADC in S group at PSH 4, 5, and 6 were significantly decreased (with F values from 0.492 to 2.271, P values all below 0.05). The expression of AQP4 protein in each part of brain tissue in S group was obviously increased at PSH 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 as compared with those in C group (from 0.164 ± 0.022 to 0.247 ± 0.018), and it peaked at PSH 3 or 4 (from 0.237 ± 0.042 to 0.306 ± 0.026), with F values from 2.420 to 11.439, P values all below 0.05. The expressions of AQP4 protein were similar in brain tissue of all regions, and they were negatively correlated with corresponding ADC values (with r values from -0.489 to -0.337, P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). Compared with that in C group, the expression of AQP4 mRNA in each part of brain tissue in S group was obviously increased at each time point, and it reached the peak at PSH 2 (with F values from 39.992 to 238.584, P values all below 0.05). The expressions of AQP4 mRNA were similar in all brain tissue regions., Conclusions: Brain edema within 6 hours after severe scald was mainly characterized by cytotoxicity, in which AQP4 may play an important role. ADC value may have important reference value for non-invasive and convenient assessment of development of brain edema.

To develop a stable cell line that could express the RSV NS1, the full-length RSV NS1 gene was generated by RT-PCR amplification from respiratory syncytial virus. NS1 gene was ligated with pBABE-puro to construct the recombinant retroviral expression plasmid pBABE-NS1, which was cotransfected into 293FT packaging cells with PIK packaging plasmid by calcium phosphate co-precipitation. The supernatant of 293FT was collected to infect HEp-2 cells, the resulting cell clones stably expressing NS1 were screened by puromycin. Using QPCR, CPE staining method and indirect immunofluorescence assay, the expression of NS1 at both gene and protein levels was identified. The recombinant plasmid pBABE-NS1 was identified by EcoRI and BamHI endonuclease digestion and the sequence analysis. QPCR results showed that the NS1 gene amplification in HEp-2-NS1 cells was 8483 fold higher than that in HEp-2 cells. Although the exogenous interferon was added, all cells were destroyed after 48 hours post infection using CPE staining method, showing that HEp-2-NS1 cells remained sensitive to the VSV virus. The results of RT-PCR and indirect immunofluorescence assay showed that the NS1 gene in HEp-2 cells could not only transcribe mRNA, but also express NS1 protein steadily. We had successfully established HEp-2-NS1 cell lines with stable expression of respiratory syncytial virus non-structural protein NS1.

Objective: To explore and compare the clinical effect and safety of liposomal albendazole (L-ABZ) and tablet-albendazole (T-ABZ) in the treatment of cystic echinococcosis (CE1, CE2, and CE3)., Methods: A total of 269 cases treated with cystic echinococcosis (CE) in Xinjiang Medical University the First Affiliated Hospital from 1998 to 2008 were reviewed. 51 cases were excluded and 218 cases were enrolled in this research by retrospective case-control method. Among 110 cases were treated with L-ABZ and 108 cases were treated with T-ABZ for short-term (3 months) and long-term courses (6 months) respectively. The effects and safety of the two medicines were compared by analyzing the clinical symptoms, imaging check and serologic test results., Results: In short-term effect evaluation, the total effective rates and curative rates of L-ABZ group and T-ABZ group were 77.9% and 49.1% vs 28.4% and 13.9%, respectively. The effects of L-ABZ group was better than that of T-ABZ group, with remarkable difference in total effective rates and curative rates (x2 value was 19.581, 6.877, respectively, P is less than 0.05). In long-term effect evaluation, the total effective rates and curative rates of L-ABZ and T-ABZ group were 81.7% and 49.0% vs 47.6% and 20.6%, respectively. There was significant difference between L-ABZ group and T-ABZ group in total effective rates and curative rates (x2 value was 20.977, 15.049, respectively, P is less than 0.05). In T-ABZ group the short-term curative rates were 50.0% (15/30), 8.8% (8/91) and 33.3% (7/21) respectively in CE1, CE2, and CE3, the short-term total effective rates were 56.7% (17/30), 35.2% (32/91) and 61.9% (13/21) respectively in CE1, CE2, and CE3. The long-term curative rates were 58.3% (7/12), 28.6% (12/42) and 70.0% (7/10) respectively in CE1, CE2 and CE3, the long-term total effective rates were 75.0% (9/12), 69.0% (29/42) and 100.0% (10/10) respectively in CE1, CE2, and CE3. When compared with CE2, differences existed in CE1 (x2 = 24.887, 4.329; P is less than 0.05) and CE3 groups (x2 = 8.860, 5.076; P is less than 0.05) in terms of short-term effects. In L-ABZ group, the short-term curative rates were 47.4% (18/38), 12.2% (12/98) and 61.5% (8/13) respectively in CE1, CE2 and CE3, the short-term total effective rates were 92.1% (35/38), 65.3% (64/98) and 92.3% (12/13) respectively in CE1, CE2 and CE3, the long-term curative rates were 79.3% (23/29), 35.9% (23/64) and 50.0% (3/6) respectively in CE1, CE2 and CE3, the long-term total effective rates were 96.6% (28/29), 84.4% (54/64) and 100% (6/6) respectively in CE1, CE2 and CE3. When compared with CE2, there were significant differences in CE1 (x2 = 19.648, 9.930; P is less than 0.05) and CE3 groups (x2 = 18.880, 3.876; P is less than 0.05) in terms of short-term effect. In L-ABZ and T-ABZ groups, the drug-related adverse effects were 11.1% (12/108) and 12.7% (14/110) respectively without significant difference (x2 = 0.155, P is more than 0.05)., Conclusion: L-ABZ and T-ABZ were both effective anti-echinococcosis drugs without dominant side-effects. The clinical effect of L-ABZ was better than that of T-ABZ.

Objective: To investigate the CAG trinucleotide repeat expansion and clinical characteristics of a Chinese Uygur family with spinocerebellar ataxia type 12 (SCA12) in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region., Methods: In the Uygur SCA12 family, 6 patients and 54 "healthy" members were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction, agarose gel electrophoresis, recombinant DNA technology by T-Vector cloning and restriction enzyme digestion, and direct sequencing. The diagnosis of SCA12 was confirmed. The CAG trinucleotide expansion was also analyzed., Results: Six members in the family were diagnosed as SCA12 patients and 13 were presymptomatic. Five of them were successfully detected by sequencing. The CAG repeat numbers of 4 patients were 47, 51, 52 and 53, respectively, and 48 in the presymptomatic patient. We also observed that in the CAG repeat region there was replacement of single nucleotide C, A or G., Conclusion: Forty-seven CAG repeats of SCA12 has been reported as the shortest known causative expanded alleles. The present study is the first report of the characteristics of SCA12 gene mutation in Chinese. It will provide basis for the accurate classification, disease etiology, treatment and prenatal diagnosis of this disease.

A novel electro-catalytic reactor, with oxygen-reduction cathode (PAQ/GF), dimensionally stable anode (IrO2-RuO2 -TiO2/ Ti) and heterogeneous catalysts, is developed for advanced treatment of coking wastewater after biological process, integrating cathodic and anodic simultaneous oxidation processes. A PAQ/GF electrode was synthesized by the electro-polymerization of 2-ethyl anthraquinone on graphite felt, which was characterized with cyclic voltametry measurements; the results indicated that the PAQ/GF electrode showed high reversibility for oxidation-reduction reaction of anthraquinone and catalytic activity for O2 reduction to H2O2; 13.5 mmol/L H2O2 was obtained after electrolysis for 6 h at -0.7 V (vs. SCE) and pH 6 with a current efficiency of 50% in a membrane reactor. Fe-Cu/Y350 catalysts, prepared by impregnation method, could catalyze the production of hydroxyl radicals (*OH) from H2O2, which was confirmed both by fading reaction of crystal violet and oxidation of *OH-probe compound (p-chlorobenzoic acid); Fe-Cu/Y350 also showed high catalytic-activity for the oxidation of organics by hypochlorous sodium, because COD removal of coking wastewater reached 26% in the catalytic process while only 11% of COD removal was obtained in the absence of Fe-Cu/Y350. COD removal of coking wastewater reached 49.4% (26.0% and 23.4% in cathodic system and anodic system, respectively) in the developed electrolytic-reactor, which was higher than that of conventional cathodic-anodic-oxidation process (29.8%). At optimal reaction condition of initial COD = 192 mg/L, I = 10A x m(-2) and pH 4-5, more than 50% COD were removed after electrolysis for 1 h. The mechanism might be as follows: in cathodic system, H2O2 is generated from reduction of O2 on PAQ/GF cathode, and catalyzed by Fe-Cu/Y350 for production of *OH, which causes mineralization and degradation of organic pollutants; in anodic system, Cl2 and HClO are generated from Cl- oxidation on IrO2-RuO2-TiO2/Ti anode and the organic pollutants are oxidized by Cl2, and HClO with Fe-Cu/Y350 catalysts or by direct anodic oxidation.

Objective: To characterize the clinical phenotype and the gene mutation of the spinocerebellar ataxia 7 (SCA7) family., Methods: Two patients from a two generation Hui Chinese pedigree were detected by gene test. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for CAG trinucleotide repeats was performed for the SCA7 gene, and the fragments with expanded alleles were subcloned into the pGEM-T plasmids and sequenced., Results: Molecular analysis demonstrated the pathological expansions in the SCA7 gene, with 46 CAG repeats in the expanded allele of the proband's father. The 46 repeats expanded to 54 repeats in the proband with marked anticipation of approximately 22 years., Conclusion: This family was the first SCA7 Hui Chinese family reported. Retinal degeneration is relatively unique to SCA7. The instability of the expanded triplet repeats accounts for the marked anticipation and the rate of progression of the disease.
