During the underground mine water treatment by water treatment process at united surface and underground mine, 3DEEM (three-dimensional excitation emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy) was used to investigate the composition and variation characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM).The results indicate that each process section has different removal effect for DOM.The removal rates of TOC and UV254 are 67.453% and 65.396% respectively by mine goaf.Conventional water treatment processes makes the concentration of DOM increase slightly.Membrane treatment processes removes macromolecular organic compounds and aromatic compounds completely. There are three types DOM in 3DEEM, including tyrosine, tryptophan and soluble microbial byproducts. Mine goafs can make the fluorescence intensities (FIs) of three types DOM reduce 50.1%,54.4% and 47.2% respectively. Advanced processes make the FI of tyrosine disappear, and the FIs of tryptophan and soluble microbial byproducts reduces about 75%.DOM is a biological source in underground mine water, mine goaf effluent and conventional water treatment processes effluent.DOM is from terrestrial plants and soil organic matters in membrane treatment process effluent. In a word, the ratio of newly formed DOM increases gradually in the treatment of underground mine water [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
