Maxillary sinus is located in the maxilla bone with the largest volume in all sinuses and is closest to the roots of maxillary posterior teeth, especially the mesiobuccal root of the maxillary second molar. The thickness of the normal maxillary sinus mucosa is about 1 mm. When stimulated or infected, it shows thickening of the mucosa. Periodontitis is one of the most common oral diseases in human beings, and the complex root anatomy of the maxillary molars aggravates the difficulty of inflammation control. Severe periodontitis of maxillary molars without effective treatment can affect the maxillary sinus, increasing the possibility of the mucosa thickening, and is also one of the reasons for the occurrence of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS). There are many different schemes for the treatment of OMS caused by severe periodontitis of maxillary molars. Extraction of teeth with severe periodontal disease without retention value or successful periodontal treatment can significantly reduce the thickness of maxillary sinus mucosa. For the patients with uncontrollable sinusitis by using drug treatment and eliminating odontogenic causes, or ones with severe symptoms, periodontal treatment and endoscopic sinus surgery can be combined to effectively control the periodontitis related maxillary sinusitis.

Cultivating dental general doctors who practice standardized periodontal diagnosis and treatment techniques is conducive to the prevention and control of periodontal diseases and the improvement of oral health of our population. Manual supragingival scaling is the most important basic skill of basic periodontal treatment, and it is the basic periodontal diagnosis and treatment technique that every oral general practitioner should know. This article starts from why manual supragingival scaling is important and how to standardize the teaching and training of manual supragingival scaling, and begin with the first chapter of basic periodontal diagnosis and treatment training, to provide reference for promoting the standardized development of periodontology teaching in China.

To explore the active substances exerting anti-tumour effect in lemon essential oil and the molecular mechanism inhibiting the proliferation of head and neck cancer cells SCC15 and CAL33, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay(MTT) was utilized to identify the active component inhibiting the proliferation of head and neck cancer cells, namely citral. The IC_(50) of citral inhibiting the proliferation of head and neck cancer cells and normal cells were also determined. In addition, a 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine(EdU) staining assay was used to detect the effect of citral on the proliferation rate of head and neck cancer cells, and a colony formation assay was used to detect the effect of citral on tumor sphere formation of head and neck cancer cells in vitro. The cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction of head and neck cancer cells by citral were evaluated by flow cytometry, and Western blot was used to detect the effect of citral on the expression levels of cell cycle-and apoptosis-related proteins in head and neck cancer cells. The findings indicated that citral could effectively inhibit the proliferation and growth of head and neck cancer cells, with anti-tumor activity, and its half inhibitory concentrations for CAL33 and SCC15 were 54.78 and 25.23 μg·mL~(-1), respectively. Furthermore, citral arrested cell cycle at G_2/M phase by down-regulating cell cycle-related proteins such as S-phase kinase associated protein 2(SKP2), C-MYC, cyclin dependent kinase 1(CDK1), and cyclin B. Moreover, citral increased the cysteinyl aspartate-specific proteinase-3(caspase-3), cysteinyl aspartate-specific proteinase-9(caspase-9), and cleaved poly ADP-ribose polymerase(PARP). It up-regulated the level of autophagy-related proteins including microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3B(LC3B), sequestosome 1(P62/SQSTM1), autophagy effector protein Beclin1(Beclin1), and lysosome-associate membrane protein 1(LAMP1), suggesting that citral could effectively trigger cell apoptosis and cell autophagy in head and neck cancer cells. Furthermore, the dual-tagged plasmid system mCherry-GFP-LC3 was used, and it was found that citral impeded the fusion of autophagosomes and lysosomes, leading to autophagic flux blockage. Collectively, our findings reveal that the main active anti-proliferation component of lemon essential oil is citral, and this component has a significant inhibitory effect on head and neck cancer cells. Its underlying molecular mechanism is that citral induces apoptosis and autophagy by cell cycle arrest and ultimately inhibits cell proliferation.

In patients with periodontitis, due to problems of periodontal tissue infection as well as soft and hard tissues defects, it may lead to implant infection, gingival papilla loss, soft tissue recession and poor coordination with adjacent teeth. For such patients, periodontal infection should be actively controlled before dental implant therapy. In consideration of insufficient soft and hard tissues, alveolar ridge preservation and soft tissue augmentation procedure can be used to preserve or increase soft and hard tissues as much as possible. Multi-disciplinary treatment is often needed for occlusion problems and coordination with adjacent tooth. Periodontal maintenance treatment of implants and natural teeth is also necessary after implant therapy. This paper discussed these risk factors and strategies for prevention and control, in order to provide some clinical guidances for the implant treatment of periodontitis patients.

Objective: To evaluate the survival rate, success rate, soft tissue conditions and marginal bone level changes of implants following micro crestal flap-alveolar ridge preservation at molar extraction sockets with severe periodontitis, compared to natural healing. Methods: From March 2015 to January 2017, patients scheduled for molar extraction as a consequence of severe periodontitis and planned implant-retained prostheses from Department of Periodontology Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology were selected. A total of 40 molar extraction sockets from 40 patients received implant placement following micro crestal flap-alveolar ridge preservation or natural healing. The front consecutive 20 teeth were assigned to the natural healing group, and the back ones were assigned to the micro crestal flap-alveolar ridge preservation (MCF-ARP) group. The superstructures were placed 6 months later. Within 2 weeks (baseline) and 1, 2 and 3 years after implant crown restoration, modified plaque index, probing depth, modified bleeding index and keratinized tissue width were recorded every six months. Parallel periapical radiographs were taken to evaluate the peri-implant marginal bone level and to calculate marginal bone loss. Independent sample t test or Mann-Whitney U test were used to compare the differences in the above clinical and imaging indicators between the two groups. Results: The implant survival rate and success rate of the two groups were both 100% (20/20). There were no significant differences in the modified plaque index, probing depth, modified bleeding index, buccal keratinized tissue width and marginal bone loss between two groups at 1, 2 and 3 years after implant crown restoration (all P> 0.05). Marginal bone loss was 0.22 (0.14, 0.34) mm in the natural healing group and 0.21 (0.12, 0.30) mm in the MCF-ARP group at a 3-year post-loading evaluation. Conclusions: Within the limitations of the present study, implants placed at ridge preserved and naturally healed molar extraction sockets with severe periodontitis demonstrate comparable clinical outcomes at a 3-year post-loading evaluation.

Objective: The ultrasonography features of alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) and intramuscular capillary-type hemangiomas (ICTH) were analyzed, and the diagnostic model of ASPS was established. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out. The clinical data of 52 patients [28 males and 24 females, aged (20.7±15.1) years] with pathologically confirmed ASPS and ICTH admitted to People's Hospital of Henan Province from January 2005 to February 2023 were included in the study. According to pathological types, the patients were divided into ASPS group and ICTH group. Clinical data of patients were retrospectively collected, and meaningful indicators in the univariate analysis were included in the regression analysis for screening. After comprehensive consideration of clinical significance and statistical significance, eligible indicators were selected for inclusion in the regression analysis. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to screen the factors that distinguished the pathological types of ASPS and ICTH, and the diagnostic model was established. The area under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the diagnostic effectiveness of the diagnostic model in distinguishing ASPS from ICTH. Results: There were 20 patients in ASPS group, 10 males and 10 females, aged (26.9±13.5) years, and 32 patients in ICTH group, 18 males and 14 females, aged (16.8±15.0) years. The age difference between the ASPS group and the ICTH group was statistically significant ( P <0.05), and there were statistically significant differences in the ultrasound imaging features of "clear boundary" "peripheral lobe" "thin blood vessels inside the lesion are straight and out of shape" "intra-lesion liquification" "peripheral thick blood vessels" and "peripheral muscle fiber disruption" between the two groups (all P <0.001).Variables with clinical and statistical significance were selected as independent variables. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that peripheral muscle fiber interruption ( OR =97.358, 95% CI :6.833-1 387.249) and internal thin blood vessels were flat and out of shape ( OR =0.052, 95% CI :0.003-0.921) was the correlation factor to distinguish the pathological types of ASPS and ICTH. Two ultrasonic image features of "peripheral muscle fiber interruption" and "internal thin blood vessels are straight and out of shape" were used to establish the diagnostic model. The sensitivity of "peripheral muscle fiber interruption" diagnostic model was 81.3%, and the specificity was 95.0%. The AUC was 0.811(95% CI : 0.761-0.954). The sensitivity, specificity and AUC of the diagnosis model of "internal thin vessels with flat misshape" were 90.0%, 96.9% and 0.934(95% CI : 0.830-0.984). The sensitivity, specificity and AUC of the combined diagnosis model of "peripheral muscle fiber interruption" and "internal thin blood vessel straight out of shape" were 96.9%, 90.0% and 0.974(95% CI :0.877-0.999). Conclusion: Ultrasonography can be used to distinguish ASPS from ICTH, and the combined diagnostic model based on the two ultrasonic imaging features of "peripheral muscle fiber interruption" and "internal thin blood vessel straight out of shape" can further improve the diagnostic efficiency.

In recent years, with the continuous progress of DNA extraction and detection technology, cell-free DNA(cfDNA)has been widely used in the life science field, and its potential application value in forensic identification is becoming more and more obvious. This paper reviews the concept, formation mechanism, and classification of cfDNA, etc., and describes the latest research progress of cfDNA in personal identification of crime scene touch DNA samples and non-invasive prenatal paternity testing (NIPPT). Meanwhile, this paper summarizes the potential application of cfDNA in injury inference, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of common cfDNA analysis methods and techniques, and its application prospects, to provide a new idea for the wide application of cfDNA in the field of forensic science.

Objective: To understand the late reporting and the under-reporting of occupational disease from 2018 to 2020 in China and analyze the causes, so as to provide scientific evidence for improving the quality of occupational disease reports in China, timely acquiring the incidence of occupational disease, and assessing the occupational hazards. Methods: From May to December 2021, A total of 320 occupational disease diagnostic institutions were selected for investigation. The original documents of occupational disease diagnosis cases from 2018 to 2020 were compared with the online reported cases, and late reported and under-reported cases of occupational disease were analyzed. Results: A total of 32207 diagnosed cases from 2018 to 2020 were investigated, including 28934 confirmed cases and 3273 cases without occupational disease. The overall late reported rate and under-reported rate of confirmed cases were 20.2% and 2.1%, respectively. There were significant differences in the rate of late reporting and under-reporting of occupational diseases in different regions and different types of diagnostic institutions ( P <0.001). The southwest region had the highest rates of late reporting and under-reporting, 61.6% and 7.9% respectively. The late reported rate of all kinds of occupational diseases was about 15.0%, and the under-reported rate was from 1.5.0% to 5.0%. Conclusion: At present, the phenomenon of late reporting and under-reporting occupational diseases is still obvious. It is necessary to strengthen the inspection of occupational disease reporting, improve the quality of occupational disease reporting, and provide scientific basis for the formulation of occupational disease prevention and control policies.

The surveillance of occupational disease has entered a new stage ofdevelopment, with the implementation of the national health informatization project. To improve the efficiency and quality of occupational disease monitoring information reporting in this paper, the system architecture and related management regulations, as long as the major changes and achievement of "surveillance system of occupational disease and health hazards information" under the framework of National Health Insurance Informatization Project were elaborated. The deficiencies existing in the system were analyzed, and expectation for the construction of the occupational disease surveillance system was addressed.

Objective: To analyze the status of prevention and treatment of occupational diseases among mining and manufacturing industries in China in 2019, provide the scientific basis for the formulation and revision of policies and standards of prevention and treatment of occupational diseases. Methods: In May 2022, Collecting data of a project named Surveillance of Occupational Hazards in the Workplace in 2019 through the National Surveillance System for Occupational Hazards in the workplace. Compare the status of prevention and treatment of occupational diseases in 63 563 enterprises of mining and manufacturing industries among different dimensions. Results: The training rate of managers was 76.17% and that of occupational health managers was 76.97%. The rate of reporting of occupational diseases hazardous items was 67.58%, the rate of launching of the detection of occupational hazards was 57.16%, and the rate of launching of occupational health examination was 62.42%. Excluding the distribution rate of dust mask, the installation rate of various occupational prevention facilities and the distribution rate of gas mask and hearing protector were less than 80%. The differences in all the indicators among different areas, enterprise scales, economic types were statistically significant ( P <0.05) . Conclusion: There are still some enterprises which are relatively weak in the ability of the prevention and treatment of occupational diseases in China. Measures such as special support, guidance and strengthen supervision should be taken towards those enterprises toimprove the awareness of prevention and treatment of occupational diseases and the level of that.

Objective: To understand the exposure level of dust and noise in the mining industry and provide data support for revising policy for the prevention and control of occupational diseases. Methods: In May 2022, Data was collected through the National Surveillance Program for Occupational Hazards in the Workplace. Descriptive analysis was conducted for dust and noise levels by industry type and enterprise size from 7, 679 enterprises in the mining industry among 29 provincial regions nationwide. Results: The enterprises in the mining industry included in the National Surveillance Program for Occupational Hazards in the Workplace are mainly small and micro, accounting for 47.97% (3684/7679) and 30.00% (230/7679) respectively. The industry is mainly compred of employers in the non-metallic ming and beneficiation industry, accounting for 50.25% (3859/7679). Among the enterprises with silica dust, coal dust, and noise hazards, the proportion of enterprises where total dust concentration and noise intensity exceed the standard is higher than 50%. 30% of the posts are with an exposure level of silica dust, coal dust, and noise that exceeds the standard. The exceedance rate and the median of the time-weighted average concentration of total coal dust among large and medium-sized enterprises are higher than those among small and micro-sized enterprises ( P <0.05) . Conclusion: The dust and noise hazards in the mining industry are lower than in the past in China, but more than 25% of workers are still at a high risk of occupational pneumoconiosis and noise deafness. Therefore, intervention and surveillance strategies should be strengthened in the future.

Subepithelial connective tissue or free gingival grafts are often used in traditional mucogingival surgery to treat gingival recession and keratinized gingival insufficiency. However, due to the disadvantages of autologous soft tissue grafts, such as the preparation of the second surgical site, the limited amount of tissue in the donor site, and postoperative discomfort for patients, the research on autologous soft tissue substitute materials has attracted extensive attention. A variety of donor-substitute materials from different sources are currently used in membranous gingival surgeries, including platelet-rich fibrin, acellular dermal matrix, xenogeneic collagen matrix, etc. This paper reviews the research progress and application of several different types of substitute materials in soft tissue augmentation for natural teeth, providing a reference for the application of autologous soft tissue substitutes in clinical gingival augmentation surgery.

The number of patients with periodontal disease in China is large, and the ratio of doctors to patients is seriously imbalanced, especially in the insufficient number of periodontal specialists and periodontal teachers. Strengthening the cultivation of professional postgraduates in periodontology can effectively solve this problem. This paper summarizes the experiences of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology in the teaching of periodontal postgraduate students for more than 30 years, in cluding teaching objectives formulation, teaching resources allocation and enhancement of the quality control system of clinical teaching, for ensuring that the periodontal professional postgraduates could reach the expected level after training. This formed the current "Peking University Model". There are both opportunities and challenges in clinical teaching of periodontal postgraduates in domestic stomatology community. The authors hope that the continuous exploration and improvement of this teaching system will promote the vigorous development of clinical teaching for the postgraduates majoring in periodontology in China.

Objective: To investigate the effects of different concentrations of Rauwolfia extract (RE) on the proliferation of prostate cells in the rat model of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)., Methods: We randomly divided 48 male SD rats into six groups of an equal number, BPH model control, finasteride, low-concentration RE, medium-concentration RE, high-concentration RE and normal control, and established a BPH model in the former five groups by subcutaneous injection of testosterone propionate following castration. We treated the rats of the finasteride and RE groups intragastrically with finasteride solution at 5 mg/kg and RE at 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg respectively, and those of the model control and normal control groups with an equal dose of normal saline, all once a day for 28 consecutive days. Then, we killed all the animals, collected their prostate tissue, obtained the wet weight and volume of the prostate, the prostate index and the contents of serum T and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), observed the morphological changes of the prostate tissue by HE staining, counted the glands in the prostate tissue, measured the intraglandular area, and determined the expressions of PCNA and α-SMA by immunohistochemistry., Results: Compared with the rats of the normal control group, the BPH model controls showed significantly increased wet weight (［0.923 ± 0.15］ vs ［1.455 ± 0.52］ g, P < 0.05), volume (［1.035 ± 0.29］ vs ［1.687 ± 0.31］ ml, P < 0.05) and index of the prostate (［0.23 ± 0.04］% vs ［0.37 ± 0.15］%, P < 0.05), dilation, hyperemia and edema of the prostatic stroma and vessels, and proliferation rate of the prostatic cells, but remarkably decreased number of glands (［20.35 ± 3.83］ vs ［12.56 ± 2.58］, P < 0.05), epithelial thickness (［39.76 ± 5.20］ vs ［19.52 ± 1.52］ μm, P < 0.05) and intraglandular area (［12.3 ± 1.21］ vs ［5.96 ± 0.34］ ×103μm2, P < 0.05). In comparison with the BPH model controls, the animals treated with RE, especially in the high-concentration RE group, exhibited marked decreases in the weight (［1.455 ± 0.52］ vs ［0.862 ± 0.31］ g, P < 0.05), volume ( ［1.687 ± 0.31］ vs ［0.952 ± 0.28］ ml, P < 0.05) and index of the prostate (［0.37 ± 0.15］% vs ［0.22 ± 0.07］%, P < 0.05), dramatic improvement in the number of glands (［12.56 ± 2.58］ vs ［18.36 ± 1.25］, P < 0.05), epithelial thickness (［39.76 ± 5.20］ vs ［19.04 ± 3.89］ μm, P < 0.05) and intraglandular area (［5.96 ± 0.34］ vs ［10.25 ± 0.98］ ×103μm2, P<0.05］, P < 0.05), remarkable down-regulation of the expressions of PCNA and α-SMA, and significant reduction of the contents of serum T (［19.147 ± 3.214］ vs ［6.016 ± 1.978］ ng/ml, P < 0.05) and DHT (［9.052 ± 0.633］ vs ［2.532 ± 0.386］ ng/ml, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Rauwolfia extract can inhibit the proliferation of prostate cells and relieve BPH symptoms in a concentration-dependent manner in rats with BPH.

Peri-implantitis (PI) has been defined as an inflammatory lesion of the mucosa surrounding an endosseous implant and with progressive loss of supporting peri-implant bones. In recent years, histopathological differences between PI and periodontitis of natural teeth had been described in animal experiments and a certain number of human experiments. In this paper, we review the histopathological differences between PI and periodontitis reported in the existing literature and try to find the differences in the occurrence and progression of these two diseases. Overall, inflammatory cell infiltrate (ICT) is more extensive in PI than in periodontitis, extending to the alveolar ridge, with dense infiltration of plasma cells, lymphocytes, macrophages, polymorphonuclear leukocytes and a greater number of osteoclasts in the connective tissue, but with less vascular density within ICT than in periodontitis. In addition, foreign bodies are found in PI lesions. The histopathological differences between the two diseases in terms of inflammatory infiltration, vascularity, bone loss, and foreign bodies could partially explain the more rapid progression of PI than periodontitis, suggesting that PI should be taken seriously by physicians. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to control the progression of PI. In addition, targeted therapy against specific inflammatory cells may become a new direction for PI treatment; reducing titanium particles released into peri-implant tissue by friction or electrochemical corrosion may help to prevent PI.

Objective: To describe the submucosal microbial profiles of peri-implantitis and healthy implants, and to explore bacteria that might be correlated with clinical parameters., Methods: In the present cross-sectional study, 49 patients were recruited. Each patient contributed with one implant, submucosal biofilms were collected from 20 healthy implants and 29 implants with peri-implantitis. DNA was extracted and bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) genes were amplified. Submucosal biofilms were analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing at Illumina MiSeq platform. Differences between the groups were determined by analyzing α diversity, microbial component and microbial structure. The potential correlation between the bacteria with pocket probing depth (PPD) of peri-implant calculated by Spearman correlation analysis., Results: The α diversity of submucosal microbial of health group was significantly lower than that in peri-implantitis group (Chao1 index: 236.85±66.13 vs. 150.54±57.43, P < 0.001; Shannon index: 3.42±0.48 vs . 3.02±0.65, P =0.032). Principal coordinated analysis showed that the submucosal microbial structure had significant difference between healthy and peri-implantitis groups [ R 2 =0.243, P =0.001, analysis of similarities (ANOSIM)]. Compared with healthy implants, relative abundance of periodontal pathogens were higher in peri-implantitis, including members of the red complex ( Porphyromonas gingivalis , Tannerella forsythia , Treponema denticola ) and some members of orange complex ( Precotella intermedia , Eubacterium nodatum , Parvimonas micra ), as well as some new periodontal pathogens, such as Fillifactor alocis , Fretibacterium fastidiosum , Desulfobulbus sp.&#95;HMT&#95;041 , and Porphyromonas endodontalis. Spearman correlation analysis revealed that the relative abundance of Treponema denticola ( r =0.686, P < 0.001), Tannerella forsythia ( r =0.675, P < 0.001), Fretibacterium sp. ( r =0.671, P < 0.001), Desulfobulbus sp.&#95;HMT&#95;041 ( r =0.664, P < 0.001), Filifactor alocis ( r =0.642, P < 0.001), Fretibacterium fastidiosum ( r =0.604, P < 0.001), Porphyromonas gingivalis ( r =0.597, P < 0.001), Porphyromonas endodontalis ( r =0.573, P < 0.001) were positive correlated with PPD. While the relative abundance of Rothia aeria ( r =-0.615, P < 0.001) showed negatively correlation with PPD., Conclusion: Marked differences were observed in the microbial profiles of healthy implants and peri-implantitis. The members of red and orange complex as well as some new periodontal pathogens seem to play an important role in peri-implant disease. Compared with healthy implants, the submucosal microbial of peri-implantitis were characterized by high species richness and diversity.

Methomyl is a carbamate insecticide widely used in pesticides. Most of the poisoning methods are through digestive tract, respiratory tract and skin contact. At present, there is no report of poisoning caused by intramuscular injection. A case of poisoning caused by intramuscular injection of methomyl was analyzed retrospectively. About 4 minutes later, cholinergic crisis and central inhibition occurred. Venovenous-Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (VV-ECMO) and atropine were given quickly. Finally, the patient was successfully rescued and had a good prognosis. After intramuscular injection of methomyl, cholinergic crisis can occur rapidly, and the onset rate is significantly faster than that of digestive tract, respiratory tract and skin contact.

Objective: To evaluate the type of wound healing following modified crown lengthening surgery in dog model to provide a biological basis for its clinical application., Methods: Flap surgery, traditional crown lengthening procedure and modified crown lengthening procedure were performed on the right maxillary central incisor, the left maxillary central incisor and the left maxillary first lateral incisor respectively of five male beagle dogs. The right maxillary first lateral incisors with no surgical intervention were used as controls. Thirty-six weeks after the experimental procedure, tissue blocks were harvested and prepared for histological examination and analysis., Results: Histometric examination of buccolingual sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin demonstrated that the type of wound healing in the flap surgery group was re-attachment, similar to the control group. For the traditional crown lengthening surgery group, all of the five beagle dogs had lamellar cementum defects on root surface, the wound healing of four beagle dogs was new attachment accompanied by new cementum formation at cementum defect areas and the suprac-restal connective tissue was functionally oriented perpendicular to the new cementum. The wound healing of the other beagle dog was long junctional epithelial attachment, in which the junctional epithelium extended to the apical terminus of the cementum defect. In the modified crown lengthening surgery group, four beagle dogs had cementum defects on root surface (two lamellar cementum defects and two shallow platform-like cementum defects), the wound healing of three beagle dogs was new attachment, however, the supracrestal connective tissue was parallel to the root surface. The type of wound healing of another one beagle dog was long junctional epithelial attachment. Wound healing of one beagle dog in this group could not be characterized due to incomplete dissection., Conclusion: Wound healing in the modified crown lengthening surgery group was similar to the traditional crown lengthening surgery group, and two types of wound healing were observed: new attachment and long junctional epithelium attachment. Neither type of root treatment procedure (root planing or root reshaping) nor root surface defect pattern (the lamellar cementum defect or shallow platform-like cementum defect) influenced the observed type of wound healing.

Single-arm trial refers to a clinical trial design that does not set up parallel control group, adopts open design, and does not involve randomization and blind method. These features, on the one hand, speed up the process of clinical trials, significantly shorten the time to market and meet the needs of patients with advanced malignancies, but also lead to the uncertainty of single-arm clinical trials themselves. Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration held a meeting of the oncologic drug advisory committee to discuss six tumor indications that have been accelerated approved, which once again triggered the discussion of single-arm trials. The basis of accelerated approval by single-arm trial is actually a compromise on the level of evidence-based medical evidence requirements after assessing the benefit risk. Therefore, the sponsor should strictly grasp the applicable conditions of single-arm trial in anti-tumor drugs and conduct single-arm trial scientifically. Post-marketing clinical trial should be implement as early as possible to ensure the benefit of patients. Based on the characteristics of single-arm trial, combined with two guidance relevant to single-arm trial issued by National Medical Products Administration recently, this article is supposed to propose and summarize the strategy of single-arm trial supporting the marketing of anti-tumor drugs.

According to the polarity of different components in Sanpian Decoction, two fingerprints were established. Then the substance benchmark freeze-dried powder of 15 batches of Sanpian Decoction was prepared, followed by the determination of the fingerprints, index component content, and dry extract rates, the identification of attribution of characteristic peaks, and the calculation of similarities between these fingerprints and the reference(R), the content and transfer rate ranges of ferulic acid, sinapine thiocyanate, liquiritin, and glycyrrhizic acid, and the dry extract rate range. The results showed that the similarities of 15 batches of the substance benchmark fingerprints with R were all greater than 0.900.Further summarization of the characteristic peaks revealed that there were a total of 20 characteristic peaks in fingerprint 1, among which, eight were from Sinapis Semen, four from Paeoniae Radix Alba, six from Chuanxiong Rhizoma, and two from Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. A total of 16 characteristic peaks were observed in fingerprint 2, including one from Sinapis Semen, three from Paeoniae Radix Alba, eight from Chuanxiong Rhizoma, and four from Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. The average dry extract rate of 15 batches of substance benchmarks was 18.25%, with a dry extract rate range of 16.28%-20.76%. The index component content and transfer rate ranges were listed as follows: 0.15%-0.18% and 38.81%-58.05% for ferulic acid; 0.26%-0.42% and 36.51%-51.02% for sinapine thiocyanate; 0.09%-0.15% and 48.80%-76.61% for liquiritin; 0.13%-0.24% and 23.45%-35.61% for glycyrrhizic acid. The fingerprint, dry extract rate, and index component content determination was combined for analyzing the quality value transfer of substance benchmarks in the classic prescription Sanpian Decoction.The established quality evaluation method for the substance benchmarks was stable and feasible, which has provided a basis for the quality control of Sanpian Decoction and the follow-up development of related preparations.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy of combined application of glycine powder air-polishing and mechanical submucosal debridement in non-surgical treatment of peri-implant diseases., Methods: A randomized controlled clinical study was carried out on patients diagnosed with peri-implant diseases in the Department of Periodontology, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, between May of 2020 and June of 2021.Twenty-eight patients with totally sixty-two implants were enrolled.The patients were randomly divided into the test group and control group. The patients in the test group (13 subjects/32 implants) received mechanical submucosal debridement using titanium curettes combined with application of glycine powder air-polishing, while the control group (15 subjects/30 implants) received mechanical submucosal debridement using titanium only. Clinical parameters, such as plaque index (PLI), pocket probing depth (PPD), bleeding index (BI) and the percentage of suppuration on probing on implants' level (SoP%) were measured at baseline and 8 weeks after non-surgical intervention. Changes and group differences of clinical parameters of the implants before and 8 weeks after non-surgical intervention were compared., Results: Mean PLI, PPD, BI of both the test group and control group significantly reduced 8 weeks after non-surgical intervention ( P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the test group achieved lower BI (2.7±0.8 vs . 2.2±0.7, P < 0.05), more reduction of BI (0.6±0.7 vs . 1.1±0.6, P < 0.01) and more reduction of SoP% (21.9% vs . 10%, P < 0.05) after non-surgical intervention. Both the control and test groups exhibited comparable PLI and PPD reductions ( P >0.05). For the implants diagnosed with peri-implant mucositis, the test group revealed more signi-ficant reduction in BI and SoP% than the control group (1.0±0.7 vs . 0.4±0.7, P =0.02; 6.3% vs . 0, P =0.012). There was no significant difference existing in PLI and PD improvement between the control group and test group ( P >0.05). For the implants diagnosed with peri-implantitis, there was no significant difference existing in PLI, PPD, BI and SoP% improvement values between the test and control groups ( P >0.05). No complications or discomforts were reported during the study., Conclusion: Both treatment procedures could relieve the inflammation of peri-implant soft tissue. Non-surgical mechanical submucosal debridement combined application of glycine powder air-polishing is associated with significant reduction of soft tissue bleeding and suppuration on probing especially in the implants diagnosed with peri-implant mucositis.

Objective: To evaluate the risk of reentry in HBV reactive blood donors and feasibility of HBV reentry strategy., Methods: HBsAg + or HBV DNA + donors who had been quarantined for more than 6 months in Jiangsu Province could propose for reentry application. Blood samples were routinely screened by dual-ELISA for HBsAg, anti-HCV, HIV Ab/Ag, and anti- Treponema pallidum and those non-reactive ones were tested by minipool nucleic acid testing (NAT) for three times. To identify occult HBV donors, samples of NAT non-reactive were further tested by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) for HBV seromarkers (including HBsAg, HBsAb, HBeAg, HBeAb, and HBcAb). Donors of only 4 ECLIA patterns were accepted to reentry, including all 5 HBV seromarkers negative, anti-HBs only but having history of hepatitis B vaccine injection, HBcAb only, HBsAb + / HBcAb + with HBsAb more than 200 IU/L. Additionally, the detection rate of HBV infection was compared between routine screening mode and ECLIA, as well as the reentry qualified rate of HBsAg + and HBV DNA + blood donors., Results: From Oct. 2016 to Aug. 2019, a total of 737 HBV reactive donors had applied for reentry, including 667 HBsAg + reactive and 70 HBV DNA + reactive donors. Among 3 screening methods, the highest HBV detection rate (43.15%, 318/737) was observed on ECLIA, while only 4.75% (35/737) on ELISA and 3.12% (23/737) on NAT, respectively. Among 4 qualified patterns of HBV serological markers, the highest proportion was found in the all negative group (22.90%, 155/677), followed by the group with HBsAb + only and history of hepatitis B vaccine injection (19.35%, 131/677), and the median concentration of HBsAb was 237.7 IU/L. The unqualified rate of HBV DNA + donors was 82.86%, which was significantly higher than 47.98% of HBsAg + donors., Conclusion: Routine screening tests merely based on ELISA and NAT could miss occult HBV donors and may not be sufficient for blood safety. HBsAb concentration and vaccine injection history should be included in the evaluation of HBV reactive donors who intend to apply for reentry. There is a relatively larger residual risk of occult HBV infection in blood donors quarantined for HBV DNA reactive.

Professor YIN Ke - jing 's experience of Jingluo Bietong acupuncture technique for shoulder arthralgia is summarized. According to the location of pain, shoulder arthralgia is divided into hand- taiyin type, hand- yangming type, hand- shaoyan g type, hand- taiyang type and mixed type. The acupoint selection is based on Jingluo Bietong acupuncture technique, and Shugu (BL 65) or Feiyang (BL 58) are selected for hand- taiyin type, Taichong (LR 3) for hand- yangming type, Taixi (KI 3) and Dazhong (KI 4) for hand- shaoyang type, and Taibai (SP 3) or Diji (SP 8) for hand- taiyang type. In addition, combined with acupuncture at the blocking points of meridians and Xiangu (ST 43), better efficacy could be obtained.

The standardized training of specialist doctors is an important part of medical education after graduation and it is the only way to train clinicians to diagnose and treat the specialist diseases independently by using a standardized and high-quality way. The prevalence of periodontal disease and the proportion of patienets with severe and advanced periodontitis in our country are high and the diagnosis and treatment process for the periodontal disease are complicated. There is an urgent need to expand the team of periodontal specialists capable of the specialized treatment. The training of periodontal specialists in our country has just started. The present article summarizes the exploration and practice of periodontal specialist training in Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology in the past five years, including the establishment of training bases, formulation of clear training goals, strict implementation of training rules, strengthening of process quality control to ensure the trainees could reach the expected standard of periodontal specialist after training. Through the summary of the previous stage practice, the authors hope to explore and establish a periodontal specialist training system in line with our country's national conditions and further to promote and accelerate the pace of nationwide periodontal specialist training system.

Objective: To measure the three-dimensional morphology of the labial supraosseous gingiva (SOG) and the thickness of related labial bone in maxillary anterior teeth of periodontally healthy Han nationality youth using soft tissue indirect imaging cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)., Methods: Twenty-five periodontally healthy subjects (11 males and 14 females) with 150 maxillary anterior teeth were involved in this study. A special impression with radiopaque material including the maxillary teeth was made, then a CBCT scan with the elastomeric matrix in position was taken for each subject. The imaging data were generated and transferred to a volumetric imaging software in which three-dimensional reconstruction was conducted and the image analyses were carried out. Measurements were made at the site of labial center of the maxillary anterior teeth. The height of the SOG, the distance between cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) and bone crest, the gingival thickness at the CEJ, and the thickness of bone 2 mm below the labial bone crest were measured and the correlation analysis between the parameters was made. All the data analyses were performed using SPSS 22.0. The data were analyzed with ANVOA and Pearson correlation tests with the significance level at α =0.05., Results: The mean SOG values were (3.49±0.70) mm, (3.48±0.81) mm, and (3.54±0.67) mm for central incisors, lateral incisors and canines, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences among the different sites ( P > 0.05). The mean gingival thickness values were (1.45±0.23) mm, (1.13±0.24) mm, (1.14±0.22) mm for central incisors, lateral incisors and canines, respectively. The gingival thickness of the central incisors was the largest among the maxillary anterior teeth with statistically significant difference ( P < 0.05). No correlation was found between the SOG and gingival thickness among the maxillary anterior teeth ( P > 0.05)., Conclusion: The gingival thickness of central incisors was the largest and the supraosseous gingival height had no correlation with gingival thickness among the periodontally healthy maxillary anterior teeth.

Objective: To explore the noise exposure level and the health status of workers in transportation equipment manufacturing industry, and provide a scientific basis for guidance and implementation of intervention measures. Methods: From January to December in 2019, a total of 2088 noise workers from a large enterprise were selected by cluster sampling method in railway transportation equipment manufacturing, automobile manufacturing and aerospace aircraft manufacturing enterprises. The worker's noise exposure level was detected. Occupational health checkups were performed on the noise workers including electrical audiometry, blood pressure and electrocardiogram. χ(2) test and trend χ(2) test were used to analyze the data. Results: The noise exposure level of 66.9% (1396/2088) workers exceeded 85 dB (A) , and the median noise level was 87.9 (84.3-90.3) dB (A) . Among them, workers of railway transportation equipment manufacturing enterprises had the highest noise exposure level[89.9 (87.8-91.6) dB (A) ]. The detection rate of high-frequency hearing loss, abnormal blood pressure and abnormal electrocardiogram of noise workers were 15.7% (327/2088) , 18.1% (378/2088) and 6.1% (128/2088) , respectively. The differences in the detection rates of high-frequency hearing loss, abnormal blood pressure, and abnormal electrocardiogram in workers of railway transportation equipment manufacturing enterprises, automobile manufacturing enterprises, and aerospace manufacturing enterprises were statistically significant ( P <0.05) . Workers of railway transportation equipment manufacturing enterprises had higher detection rates of high-frequency hearing loss (17.6%, 186/1056) . Workers of aerospace manufacturing enterprises had higher detection rates of abnormal blood pressure and abnormal electrocardiogram (26.3%, 169/642; 10.0%, 64/642) . The differences in the detection rates of high-frequency hearing loss, abnormal blood pressure and abnormal electrocardiogram of noise workers were statistically significant in different age and working age groups, and gradually increased with age and working age ( P <0.05) . The difference in the detection rate of high-frequency hearing loss of noise workers was statistically significant in different noise intensity groups, and the overall trend was increasing ( P <0.05) . Conclusion: The transportation equipment manufacturing industry has serious noise hazards, especially the railway transportation equipment manufacturing industry. Long-term occupational noise exposure can adversely affect workers' hearing and cardiovascular system. Enterprises should strengthen occupational health inspections, and at the same time, take personal protective measures to protect the health of workers.

Gingival papilla deficiency may cause dental plaque stagnation and food impaction, and may also affect the appearance and pronunciation when occurs in the upper anterior teeth. It has become a common concern of patients and doctors. The aetiological factors of gingival papilla deficiency were complex. Various surgical or non-surgical treatments have been reported. This paper reviews and analyzes the current research progress on the factors and treatment methods of gingival papilla deficiency in domestic and foreign studies, summarizes the factors associated with the gingival papilla deficiency and summarizes the corresponding treatment strategy, so as to provide reference for clinical and research works.

Objective: Takayasu's arteritis involving the pulmonary artery (PTA) is uncommon, and those with pulmonary hypertension (PH) are even rarer. This study investigated the clinical features and CT findings in PTA patients with PH. Methods: A total of 40 PTA patients were retrospective selected in the First Hospital of Air Force Medical University from January 2008 to January 2018. There were 14 PTA patients with PH, including 3 male and 11 female cases, aged from 18 to 53 (29.7±9.4) years, as the study group (PTA+PH group). There were 26 PTA patients without PH, including 4 males and 22 females, aged 15-52 (28.9±8.5) years, as the control group (PTA group). The Chi-square or Fisher's test, T test of two independent samples and Mann-Whitney U rank sum test were used to compare the general information, symptoms, signs, laboratory examination data, right ventricular and pulmonary artery measurement data, and pulmonary artery CT findings between the two groups. Results: Compared with the PTA group, the patients in the PTA+PH group had longer disease duration, fewer active cases, more shortness of breath, chest distress and lower limb edema, lower blood oxygen partial pressure (PaO 2 ) and lower ESR (all P <0.05). The width of right atrium and right ventricle in PTA+PH group was greater than that in PTA group (all P< 0.05). The main CT findings of the involved pulmonary artery included lumen stenosis (39 cases, 97.5%), lumen occlusion (16 cases, 40%), wall thickening (9 cases, 22.5%), and lumen dilation (2 cases, 5.0%). Patients in the PTA+PH group had less wall thickening and mild lumen stenosis (<50%), more severe lumen stenosis (≥50%) and occlusion than those in the PTA group (all P <0.05). Conclusions: PTA patients with PH showed certain characteristics in clinical, laboratory and CT findings, which may be correlated to the stage of the disease duration, the severity, and the prognosis.

Objective: To evaluate the factors associated with the gingival papilla deficiencies of different degrees between maxillary anterior teeth showing alveolar ridge absorption. Methods: A total of 64 gingival papillae between maxillary anterior teeth of 14 patients with periodontitis, who received periodontal treatment and regular review in the Department of Periodontology, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from June 2019 to December 2019, were observed in the present study. Indices were measured by using standardized clinical photographs and cone-beam CT images. The correlations between the gingival papilla deficiencies of different degrees and the distance from contact point to bone crest (CP-BC), the distance from proximal cemento-enamel junction to bone crest (pCEJ-BC), interproximal distance between roots (RD), the width of bone crest (BCW) and the height of gingival papilla (PH) were evaluated. Statistical analyses such as t -test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and so on were conducted. Results: The rate of maxillary anterior gingival papilla completely filled the adjacent spaces between anterior teeth was 28% (18/64) and the rate of gingival papilla with deficiencies was 72% (46/64). The mild, moderate and severe deficiencies were 36% (23/64), 27% (17/64) and 9% (6/64) respectively. When CP-BC≥7.0 mm or pCEJ-BC≥4.5 mm, only moderate or severe deficiencies appeared. However, when CP-BC<5.0 mm or pCEJ-BC<1.5 mm, only completely filled adjacent tooth space or mild deficiency appeared. There was a strong positive correlation between CP-BC and pCEJ-BC. The Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.812 ( P <0.01), and the linear fitting coefficient was 0.93 ( R 2 =0.659) (64 gingival papillae). There was no significant difference of RD for gingival papilla deficiencies of different degrees between maxillary anterior teeth ( P >0.05). BCW at the crest level increased slightly with the increase of the degree of gingival papilla deficiency, and the difference was statistically significant between completely filled adjacent tooth space and moderate or severe deficiency ( P <0.05). However, PH at the crest level decreased slightly with the increase of the degree of gingival papilla deficiency, and the difference was statistically significant between completely filled adjacent tooth space and moderate or severe deficiency ( P <0.05). Conclusions: When the alveolar ridge is absorbed, the rate of deficiency is significantly higher than the completely filled adjacent tooth space. The gingival papilla deficiencies of different degrees between maxillary anterior teeth are mainly associated with the absorption of bone crest.

By preparing 15 batches of lyophilized powder samples of substance benchmark in Houpo Wenzhong Decoction,the fingerprint,index component content and extract rate were determined,and the characteristic peaks,the range of similarity with the reference map,the content range and transfer rate range of magnolol,hesperidin,glycyrrhizic acid and pinocembrin,the extract rate range and the change range were clarified. The results showed that the similarity between the fingerprint of substance benchmark and the reference map R generated from the 15 batches of substance benchmark samples was higher than 0. 90. The assignment of the characteristic peaks in the full prescription&apos;s fingerprint of the herbs except Poria cocos was clarified. Nineteen characteristic peaks were assigned,and 12 characteristic peaks were assigned by the reference substance,of which 4 were from Magnolia ocinalis Cortex,5 from Exocarpium Citri Rubrum,2 from Radix aucklandiae,3 from Glycyrrhiza Radix et Rhizoma,4 from Semen Alpiniae Katsumadai,and one from Rhizoma Zingiberis and Zingiber officinale Roscoe. The index component content range and transfer rate range were 0. 80%-1. 14% and 20. 25%-39. 61% for hesperidin,0. 49%-0. 79% and 23. 09%-33. 87%for glycyrrhizic acid,0. 03%-0. 07% and 3. 55%-10. 09% for pinocembrin,0. 15%-0. 38% and 8. 08%-24. 35% for magnolol. The extract rate range and the change range were22. 60%-25. 57% and 12. 67%-23. 68% respectively. In this study,we introduced the concepts of index component content,fingerprint,extract rate,explored the transfer relation of quality value transmitting of substance benchmark in Houpo Wenzhong Decoction,and initially established the quality standard of Houpo Wenzhong Decoction,all of which would provide ideas for the development and research of similar prescriptions.

Objective: To explore the preliminary application of "biocopy function" in digital technology of temporary crown in severe tooth attrition, so as to reduce the difficulty of final restoration adjustment in severe tooth wear cases, and save clinical time., Methods: Twelve patients aged between 40 and 65 years with severe tooth attrition were recruited in this study. The experimental group (6 cases, 3 females and 3 males) used the method of digital copy of temporary restoration shape when making the final restoration, and the control group (6 cases, 3 females and 3 males) used the traditional method to make the final restoration. The mean time of central occlusal adjustment and protrusive and lateral occlusal adjustment of each crown, the number of follow-up visits of the patients were recorded and statistically analyzed. The occlusal comfort of the first and the third months after wearing the prosthesis was evaluated by the patients, and the difference of the occlusal comfort of the final prosthesis made by the two methods was compared (the full score was 10 points). The occlusal adjustment time and occlusal comfort score were used as measurement data. Single sample t test was used. The number of follow-up visits was count data. Rank sum test was used for non-normal continuous variables., Results: The mean occlusal time of each crown adjustment in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group ( P < 0.01), and the median number of follow-up visits in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group ( P < 0.01). The average occlusal comfort score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group at the first time ( P < 0.01). After three months of crown wearing, the median occlusal comfort score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group ( P < 0.05)., Conclusion: In the case of severe tooth attrition, it is feasible to use the "biocopy function" in the design software to design the final prosthesis, which is conducive to reduce the difficulty of adjustment and achieve predictable functional and aesthetic effects, which is of great significance to save clinical time and improve the accuracy of restoration.

Minimally invasive surgery develops rapidly in the periodontal treatments, especially in the periodontal regenerative treatment, in recent years. It supplements, to a certain extent, the insufficiency of the conventional periodontal regenerative treatment. The minimally invasive surgery has many advantages such as enhancing the healing process, reducing surgical chair time and minimizing patient discomfort, etc. It has been proved to improve the clinical effect and provide additional benefits compared to conventional approaches. At present, there are many studies on minimally invasive techniques used in tooth extraction or implant placement in China, but there are few reports on the application of periodontal minimally invasive surgical techniques. Thus based on the reviews of the literatures, this article describes the applications, advantages, indications, microsurgical instruments of minimally invasive periodontal surgery on the treatment of intrabony defect, including various minimally invasive surgical procedures. The review also demonstrates the therapeutic effects and research progress of minimally invasive periodontal surgery combined with biomaterials used in the treatments of intrabony defect. The present article may also provide reference for clinicians applying minimally invasive surgeries to treat intrabony defects.

Recently the model of cultivating stomatology talents for postgraduate education in China is primarily specialized education. The aim of the present study was to construct a multidisciplinary grand rounds series based on presentation and commentary for diagnosis and treatment plan of clinical cases, in order to improve the clinical competence of postgraduate students from various dental disciplines for resolving the clinical problems. The grand rounds series was designed for postgraduate students of periodontology, with the combination of the advantages of the international dentistry education experience and Chinese characteristics. This study focused on designing and exploring the multidisciplinary grand rounds series based on complicated periodontal clinical cases, and also on analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of the series by questionnaire investigation for both teachers and students. The results of the preliminary investigation showed that postgraduate students had positive view on the form and content of the teaching rounds. However, more analysis is needed for further evaluation.

Objective: To compare the clinical effects of ultrasonic subgingival debridement and ultrasonic subgingival debridement combined with manual root planing on severe periodontitis and then to investigate the necessity and significance of manual root planing., Methods: Twenty-three patients with severe periodontitis participated in this split-mouth randomized-controlled clinical trial. Baseline examination and randomization were performed after supragingival scaling: each of the upper and lower jaws had a quadrant as the test group treated with ultrasonic subgingival debridement combined with manual root planing, whereas the other two quadrants were the control group treated with ultrasonic subgingival debridement. Treatment of each patient was at intervals of one week and completed in two visits. Clinical indicators concerning probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL) and bleeding index (BI) were recorded at baseline and 1 month, 3 months, 6 months after treatment., Results: There was no significant difference of periodontal indicators between the test group and the control group at baseline. Both the test group and control group resulted in significant improvement of PD, CAL and BI. One and three months after treatment, reduction of PD in the test group was higher than that in the control group [1 month: (2.13±1.31) mm vs. (1.79±1.33) mm, P<0.01; 3 months: (2.46±1.33) mm vs. (2.17±1.38) mm, P<0.01] and reduction of CAL in the test group was higher than that in the control group [1 month: (1.89±2.03) mm vs. (1.65±1.93) mm, P<0.01; 3 months: (2.03±2.05) mm vs. (1.83±1.97) mm, P<0.05]. Six months after treatment, PD in the test group and the control group decreased by (2.52±1.40) mm and (2.35±1.37) mm respectively, and the improvement in the test group was significantly better than that in the control group (P<0.01). CAL in the test group and the control group decreased by (1.89±2.14) mm and (1.77±2.00) mm respectively, and there was no statistical difference between the groups. There was no significant difference in the changes of BI between the two groups 1, 3 and 6 months after treatment., Conclusion: Ultrasonic subgingival debridement combined with manual root planing has more reduction in PD and CAL compared with ultrasonic subgingival debridement. Therefore, it is still necessary to use manual instruments for root planing following ultrasonic subgingival debridement.

With the completion of the whole genome sequencing of major important crops, researchers have an increasing demand for high-throughput, accurate and nondestructive phenotyping technologies. The Plant Phenomics Analysis Platform (PPAP) was established in 2017 at the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The platform has the most up-to-date comprehensive phenotyping analysis facility in China with a full spectrum of imaging systems consisting of eight units including visible light, infrared, near-infrared, root near-infrared, fluorescence, chlorophyll fluorescence, high spectral and lidar imaging. The platform has also specifically established phenotyping technologies for complex traits, such as root phenotype collection and analysis, spike and spikelet feature collection and analysis and responses under stress conditions. PPAP is dedicated to providing all-possible services for domestic and international academic communities and industrial partners engaged in plant sciences.

Objective: To evaluate and to compare dimensional alterations of hard and soft tissues in molar extraction sites with irregular deficiency of bone plates due to advanced periodontitis receiving two different procedures, namely the flapped and flapless techniques with Bio-Gide membrane covering the Bio-Oss material for ridge preservation., Methods: Twenty-three patients with 24 infected-molar extraction sites received ridge preservation procedure, the first consecutive 12 sites belonged to the flap group (a full thickness mucoperiosteal flap and primary soft tissue closure) and the following 12 sites belonged to the flapless group (minimal flap with a collagen sponge and a secondary soft tissue closure). Width of keratinized tissue was evaluated before tooth extraction and after 6-month healing. Parallel periapical radiographs were taken immediately and 6 months after extraction to evaluate vertical bone changes. The width of the ridge was measured in the center of the ridge at the time of tooth extraction and after 6 months at implant placement., Results: After 6 months, width of keratinized tissue decreased (1.6±1.5) mm in the flap group (P=0.004) when compared with (0.3±1.6) mm in the flapless group (P>0.05). Both groups showed increases in ridge height from the central aspect, (5.53±4.20) mm for flap group and (7.70±4.35) mm for flapless group. These differences between the groups were not statistically significant (P=0.226). The ridge widths were (9.5±2.2) mm for flap group and (9.3±1.0) mm for flapless group at the time of implant insertion, and no statistical significance was observed between the flap and flapless groups., Conclusion: The study points out that both ridge preservation techniques were effective in increasing ridge height and minimizing ridge resorption after tooth extraction, and the ridge width allowed the placement of implants 6 months after ridge preservation. The flapless technique gave positive outcome in terms of the keratinized gingival width than that of the flap technique.

Objective: To compare the efficacies of two training protocols, i.e. the multimedia instruction and the conventional method, in periodontal surgery teaching for undergraduate students. Methods: One hundred and twenty-three dental undergraduates in their pre-clinical training course were recruited and divided into two groups according to the learning grade matching principle: the experimental group (multimedia instruction, 60 students) and the control group (conventional method, 63 students). The teaching aim was to train the students gingivectomy and periodontal flap surgery by using the pig jaws. The conventional teaching method of teacher-demonstrating and student-practicing was used in the control group, and the practice time of the students' for each surgery was 45 minutes. A standardized teaching video combined with the teachers' explanations of the key steps was used in the experimental group. The students' practice time for each surgery was 60 minutes. The efficacy of teaching protocol was evaluated by the teachers according to the scoring criteria set by the teaching group. Results: In gingivectomy training, accuracy of fixed points, angle of postoperative gingival margin and morphology of gingiva of the experimental group were better than those of the control group. The experimental group also had more complete and continuous excised gingivae and more thorough adjacent gingival removal. The total scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (92.8±2.6 vs. 89.9±3.7, P< 0.05). In periodontal flap surgery training, the experimental group operated the blade around the shape of the tooth better in internal bevel incision than the control group. Additionally, the incision position of internal bevel incision, periosteal integrity after flapping and flap depth of the experimental group were better than those of the control group. Besides, the experimental group had smoother flap edge and more thorough debridement. The total scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (92.2±4.1 vs. 89.2±4.4, P< 0.05). Conclusions: The teaching efficacy of multimedia instruction was better than that of the conventional method. Its value needs to be further tested in future teaching practice.

Objective: To investigate the characteristics of asymmetric hearing loss in automobile manufacturing workers and the effect of occupational noise exposure on asymmetric hearing loss. Methods: A cross-sectional approach was used in this study. From March 2017 to February 2018, Subjects (7066) from four complete vehicle factories were given a pure tone audiometry (Hearing thresholds were measured at frequencies of 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 kHz in each ear) and were required to complete a health-related information questionnaire. According to the inclusion criteria, a total of 6339 workers were selected. The mean hearing thresholds for the left and right ears at overall frequencies were compared using the repeated means analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. The threshold differences at each frequency were compared using paired t tests. Results: The overall mean left minus right threshold difference across all frequencies was determined to be 0.58 dB, which met statistical significance ( P <0.01) . Hearing threshold in the left ear was statistically significantly higher compared with the right ear at each frequency. The differences between binaural threshold shifts at each frequency among subjects with a asymmetry in terms of worse left ear and worse right ear were at the range of 6.17-9.87 dB and 6.39-10.92 dB, respectively. Hearing threshold in the left ear was statistically significantly higher compared with the right ear at only 2, 3 kHz of subjects with high-frequency hearing threshold shifts (HFHTs) more than 25 dB. Hearing threshold in the left ear was statistically significantly higher compared with the right ear at only 3 kHz of subjects with high-frequency hearing threshold shifts (HFHTs) more than 30 dB. With the increase of HFHTs, the proportion of subjects with a asymmetry at 2 and 3 kHz of more than 10 dB in terms of worse left ear and worse right ear increased. Conclusion: The average hearing threshold of the left ear across overall frequencies is higher compared with the right ear, the proportion of the cases with a higher left ear hearing threshold is higher that that of the cases with a higher right ear hearing threshold. As hearing loss caused by occupational noise exposure getting worse, the proportion of the cases with a higher left ear hearing threshold and the cases with a higher right ear hearing threshold may tent to be the same.

Objective: ICMM occupational health risk assessment model was be used to evaluate the risk of a lead-acid battery enterprise. Methods: In November 2016, a lead-acid battery company in Jiangsu Province was selected as the research object. Based on the occupational health survey data and occupational hazard assessment reports, the ICMM risk assessment model was used to conduct occupational health risks in eight key positions of a lead-acid battery enterprise. The risk assessment results was verified by actual test results. Results: In the quantitative assessment model, the occupational health risk assessment results for the castings and welding positions exposed to lead smoke, and the occupational health risk assessment results for the grinding and dividing positions exposed to lead dust existed unacceptable risks. The occupational health risk assessment results for the ball-milled and plated positions exposed to lead dust existed tolerable risks. The occupational health risk assessment results for the lead-plated and soldered positions exposed to sulphuric acid pastes and acids existed potential risks. In qualitative evaluation matrix method, the occupational health risk assessment results for the castings and welding positions exposed to lead smoke, and the occupational health risk assessment results for the grinding and dividing positions exposed to lead dust existed high risks, the occupational health risk assessment results for other four key positions were considered to be with low risks. Conclusion: The key control points for lead smoke in this enterprise were castings and welding positions; The key control points for lead dust were the grinding and separating brush positions. The quantitative assessment model and the qualitative assessment matrix method in the ICMM model were consistent with the actual test results in the eight health risk assessments of occupational hazards in key positions. Therefore, the method could be applied to the assessment of occupational health risks of the lead-acid battery enterprise. According to the results of the assessment, improvements could be made to high-risk positions and the concentration of occupational hazards in high-risk posts could be reduced to better protect the health of workers.

To provide references and recommendations about periodontal professionals training for our country by introducing American training mode of clinical postgraduate students of periodontology. Based on ground visits and surveys of University of Washington School of Dentistry's postdoctoral program in periodontics, the professional training mode and its characteristics which adapt to the development trend of American periodontology were summarized and concluded. The discussion is in the following three parts: the overall status of postgraduate education of periodontology in the United States, the training mode of the clinical postgraduate students of periodontology at University of Washington School of Dentistry, and the observation of the American Academy of Periodontology's annual conferences. This kind of training mode supervised by the American Dental Association, giving priority to clinical practice and emphasizing cultivating the multidisciplinary comprehensive ability are worth learning. Meanwhile, the development trend of periodontology in the United States which pay increasing attention to carry out implant therapy with periodontal features and the adaptive training mode of clinical postgraduate students of periodontology also deserves our deep reflection and can be used for reference.

The accumulation of genomic and epigenetic changes gives rise to the tumorigenesis and progression. Currently, clonal evolution model and cancer stem cell model, two leading theories of caner origin, are becoming complementary to one another to explain the nature of tumor heterogeneity. Precision medicine that is based on the next generation sequencing and big data describes the phenomena of tumor heterogeneity more precisely. The future cancer therapy may need more comprehensive and dynamical understandings of the distinct subclones of tumor and follow the trends of cancer evolution.

Objective: To explore the accuracy of periapical film in evaluating the infrabone root surface area of single-root teeth with different types of resorption of the alveolar bone., Methods: In this study, the medical records and imaging data of patients in Department of Periodontology of Peking University Hospital of Stomatology from January 2014 to December 2016 were retrospectively analysed. The involved teeth were divided into two groups: horizontal bone loss group and vertical bone loss group. Digital three-dimensional models of teeth were segmented from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data, and the percentage of the infrabone root surface area was measured. While the percentage of the residual alveolar bone was measured on the periapical films. The correlation of the two percentages were analyzed, and the differences between the two percentages of each group were compared., Results: Thirty-two patients and 79 single-root teeth were involved totally, in whom there were 25 men and 7 women, aged 26-60 years, and of which there were 41 teeth in the horizontal bone loss group and 38 teeth in the vertical bone loss group. The remaining alveolar bone height percentages were 45.13%-90.39% on the periapical films, and at the same time, the infrabone root surface area percentages were 36.27%-93.03% on CBCT. The residual alveolar bone height percentage of the horizontal bone loss group was not subject to normal distribution, so the residual alveolar bone height percentage and the infrabone root surface area percentage were analyzed by Wilcoxon matched pair rank test (P=0.382), and the result showed no statistically significant difference. The mean value of difference value of the two measurements was 0, and the consistency limit of 95 % was -9.7%-9.8%, between the clinical consistency limit (-15%-15%).The residual alveolar bone height percentage and the infrabone root surface area percentage of the vertical bone loss group were analyzed by paired T test (P< 0.001), and the result showed statistically significant difference. The mean value of difference value of the two measurements was 7.2 %, and the consistency limit of 95% was -13.1%-27.5%, beyond clinical consistency limit (-15%-15%)., Conclusion: For the teeth with horizontal bone loss, the proximal residual alveo-lar bone height reflected on the periapical films could show the infrabone root surface area relatively accurately. For the teeth with vertical bone loss, the periapical films could not show the degree of periodontal tissue loss accurately, and it would underestimate the extent of bone destruction usually, so CBCT might be taken to show the bone destruction condition of this type of teeth if necessary.

Objective: To develop a digital workflow of orthodontic-prosthodontic multidisciplinary treatment plan which can be applied in complicated anterior teeth esthetic rehabilitation, in order to enhance the efficiency of communication between dentists and patients, and improve the predictability of treatment outcome., Methods: Twenty patients with the potential needs of orthodontic-prosthodontic multidisciplinary treatment to solve their complicated esthetic problems in anterior teeth were recruited in this study. Digital models of patients' both dental arches and soft tissues were captured using intra oral scanner. Direct prosthodontic (DP) treatment plan and orthodontic-prosthodontic (OP) treatment plan were carried out for each patient. For DP treatment plans, digital wax-up models were directly designed on original digital models using prosthodontic design system. For OP treatment plans, virtual-setups were performed using orthodontic analyze system according to orthodontic and esthetic criteria and imported to prosthodontic design system to finalize the digital wax-up models. These two treatment plans were shown to the patients and demonstrated elaborately. Each patient rated two treatment plans using visual analogue scales and the medians of scores of two treatment plans were analyzed using signed Wilcoxon test. Having taken into consideration various related factors, including time, costs of treatment, each patient chose a specific treatment plan. For the patients chose DP treatment plans, digital wax-up models were exported and printed into resin diagnostic models which would be utilized in the prosthodontic treatment process. For the patients chose OP treatment plans, virtual-setups were used to fabricate aligners or indirect bonding templates and digital wax-up models were also exported and printed into resin diagnostic models for prosthodontic treatment after orthodontic treatment completed., Results: The medians of scores of DP treatment plan and OP treatment plan were calculated and analyzed by IBM SPSS 20. The median of scores of DP treatment plan was 8.4, the minimum value was 6.9 and the maximum value was 9.3. The median of scores of OP treatment plan was 9.0, the minimum value was 7.9 and the maximum value was 9.6. The median of scores of OP was significantly higher than that of DP (Z=-3.23, P<0.01). Finally, 12 patients chose OP treatment plans and 8 patients chose DP treatment plans., Conclusion: For cases with complex esthetic problems in anterior teeth, a digital workflow can demonstrate final treatment outcome and help patients make suitable treatment decisions. In our study, the orthodontic-prosthodontic multidisciplinary treatment plan is feasible which can provide predictions of treatment outcome and improve esthetic outcome with patients' satisfaction.

Objective: To explore the training pattern of periodontal probing practice so as to improve the accuracy of probing depth measurements of undergraduate students. Methods: Sixty-two undergraduate dental students in their pre-clinical training course were divided into two groups (31 students in each group): the reform group and the control group. The students in reform group learned and practiced periodontal probing by using transparent gingiva models for 30 minutes, and using conventional periodontal probing models for further 90 minutes in two sessions. The total practicing time was 2 hours. The students in control group learned and practiced periodontal probing using conventional periodontal probing models only for 1 hour of practicing time. After the training, new conventional periodontal probing models were used to evaluate the accuracy of probing depth measurements of the students in the two groups. The probing depths of Ramfjord index teeth were recorded by the students and were compared with the results of an experienced teacher ' s measurements. Results: The percentage of absolutely consistent sites in the reform group (63.4% [708/1 116]) was significantly higher than that of the control group (60.0% [670/1 116]) ( P= 0.012). In both reform group and control group, the percentages of absolutely consistent sites of the incisors (reform group: 69.1% [257/372], control group: 65.9% [245/372]) were significantly higher than those of the molars (reform group 58.9% [219/372], control group 54.3% [202/372])( P< 0.01), meanwhile, the percentages of absolutely consistent sites of the buccal-lingual sites (reform group: 88.7% [330/372], control group: 80.4% [299/372]) were significantly higher than those of the interproximal sites (reform group: 50.8% [378/744], control group: 49.9% [371/744])( P< 0.01). Conclusions: The comprehensive reform of periodontal probing training could improve the accuracy of probing depth measurement of the undergraduate students. During the pre-clinical practice, probing training in the molar areas and the interproximal sites should be reinforced.

Objective: To evaluate the quality of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) case reports based on the establishment of surveillance on acute meningitis and encephalitis syndrome (AMES) in Baoji. Methods: A surveillance network on AMES cases was set up in Baoji city of Shaanxi province between July 2013 and December 2016. All the cases met the surveillance definition of AMES cases were conducted a questionnaire, collected serum and/or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens to test JE immunoglobulin M antibodies by using enzyme-linkedimmunosorbent assay methods.The information of the incidence of JE in Shaanxi and Baoji from 2009 to 2016 originated from the China information system for disease control and prevention. Chi square test was used to compare the difference in JE incidence in Baoji, Shaanxi before and after the implementation of AMES monitoring project. Results: 75 out of 855 collected cases were laboratory confirmed as JE, Including 42 suspected JE cases and 33 other suspected cases diagnosed after hospitalization. Except 1 case occurring in December, all the other cases occurred between July and October, especially in August with a peak of 55 cases (73.3%), and 6 cases (8.0%) in July, 11 cases (14.7%) in September, 2 cases (2.7%) in October. The proportion of patients aging 0-6, 7-14 and ≥15 years old were respectively 4.0% (3 cases), 8.0% (6 cases) and 88.0% (66 cases). The biochemical test showed the cerebrospinal fluid in 13 cases (17.3%) were slightly turbid, the white blood cell in 31 cases (41.3%) elevated, the glucose levels in 24 cases (32.0%) were abnormal, and the chloride level in 23 cases (30.7%) were abnormal. A total of 103 cases of JE were diagnosed in Baoji from 2009 to 2016, with an average annual incidence rate at 0.34/100 000. The average incidence of JE in 2009-2012 and 2013-2016 was 0.21/100 000 and 0.48/100 000 respectively. From 2013 to 2016, the proportion of JE cases in Baoji, Shaanxi was 19.3% (71/369), and it was 8.9% (32/362) between 2009 and 2012 (χ(2)=4.15, P= 0.040). Conclusion: The AMES surveillance project improved the quality of the JE case report in Baoji. Changes appeared in biochemistrical and epidemiological characteristics of cerebrospinal fluid. The incidence of JE was seriously underestimated in Shaanxi province and therefore the sensitivity of Japanese encephalitis surveillance cases should be further improved.

Objective: To observe the long-term clinical treatment outcome and the influencing factors of the outcome for the teeth receiving modified crown lengthening surgery combined with root canal treatment and post-core crown restoration. To summarize the clinical guidelines of modified crown lengthening surgery in selection of indications and for mulation of treatment planning. Methods: Fifty-seven patients with a total of 67 teeth receiving modified crown lengthening surgery combined with root canal treatment and post-core crown restoration for at least a 6 months' follow-up period between July 2004 and July 2013 were recruited in this retrospective study by phone call interviews. The patients' clinical outcomes were evaluated by the combination of clinical examination, radiograph and questionnaire regarding patient-reported outcome of the last follow up (≥9 months post modified crown lengthening surgery and ≥6 months after definite crown restorations). All of the treated teeth were classified into two groups, group A (teeth with good clinical treatment outcome) and group B (teeth with poor clinical treatment outcome), based on the defined criteria including patients' satisfaction with the function and esthetics of the teeth and absence of periodontal, endodontic and prosthodontic complications. The potential influencing factors of clinical treatment outcome were also determined by Logistic regression analysis. Results: Vertical root fracture in 1 tooth was found on its periapical film and the tooth was deemed hopeless. Thus, the survival rate is 99% (66/67) for the multidisciplinary treatment approach. Seventy-two percent (48/67) of the teeth achieved good clinical treatment outcome and 28% (19/67) of the teeth developed one or several complications. In group B (teeth with poor clinical treatment), 16 out of teeth exhibited periodontal complications with bleeding on probing (BOP) positive mostly found. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that plaque control ( OR= 21.392, P= 0.014), edge form ( OR= 7.610, P= 0.011), and smoking experience ( OR= 7.315, P= 0.018) were the risk factors influencing the clinical treatment outcome of modified crown lengthening surgery combined with root canal treatment and post-core restoration. Conclusions: Modified crown lengthening surgery combined with root canal treatment and post-core restoration has a good and stable clinical effect in the observational time of 6-114 months. Plaque control, smoking status and edge form of the tooth appeared to be the influencing factors of this multidisciplinary treatment approach.

Objective: To explore a new method of whole-process digital esthetic prosthodontic rehabilitation combined with periodontic surgery for complicated anterior teeth esthetic defects accompanied by soft tissue morphology, to provide an alternative choice for solving this problem under the guidance of three-dimensional (3D) printing digital dental model and surgical guide, thus completing periodontic surgery and digital esthetic rehabilitation of anterior teeth., Methods: In this study, 12 patients with complicated esthetic problems accompanied by soft tissue morphology in their anterior teeth were included. The dentition and facial images were obtained by intra-oral scanning and three-dimensional (3D) facial scanning and then calibrated. Two esthetic designs and prosthodontic outcome predictions were created by computer aided design /computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software combined with digital photography, including consideration of white esthetics and comprehensive consideration of pink-white esthetics. The predictive design of prostheses and the facial appearances of the two designs were evaluated by the patients. If the patients chose the design of comprehensive consideration of pink-white esthetics, they would choose whether they would receive periodontic surgery before esthetic rehabilitation. The dentition design cast of those who chose periodontic surgery would be 3D printed for the guide of periodontic surgery accordingly., Results: In light of the two digital designs based on intra-oral scanning, facing scanning and digital photography, the satisfaction rate of the patients was significantly higher for the comprehensive consideration of pink-white esthetic design (P<0.05) and more patients tended to choose priodontic surgery before esthetic rehabilitation. The 3D printed digital dental model and surgical guide provided significant instructions for periodontic surgery, and achieved success transfer from digital design to clinical application. The prostheses were fabricated by CAD/CAM, thus realizing the whole-process digital esthetic rehabilitation., Conclusion: The new method for esthetic rehabilitation of complicated anterior teeth esthetic defects accompanied by soft tissue morphology, including patient-involved digital esthetic analysis, design, esthetic outcome prediction, 3D printing surgical guide for periodontic surgery and digital fabrication is a practical technology. This method is useful for improvement of clinical communication efficiency between doctor-patient, doctor-technician and doctors from different departments, and is conducive to multidisciplinary treatment of this complicated anterior teeth esthetic problem.

Objective: To evaluate bone formation in human extraction sockets with absorbed surrounding walls augmented with Bio-Oss and Bio-Gide after a 6-month healing period by histologic and histomorphometric analyses., Methods: Six fresh molar tooth extraction sockets in 6 patients who required periodontally compromised moral tooth extraction were included in this study. The six fresh extraction sockets were grafted with Bio-Oss particle covered with Bio-Gide. The 2.8 mm×6.0 mm cylindric bone specimens were taken from the graft sites with aid of stent 6 months after the surgery. Histologic and histomorphometric analyses were performed., Results: The histological results showed Bio-Oss particles were easily distinguished from the newly formed bone, small amounts of new bone were formed among the Bio-Oss particles, large amounts of connective tissue were found. Intimate contact between the newly formed bone and the small part of Bio-Oss particles was present. All the biopsy cylinders measurement demonstrated a high inter-individual variability in the percentage of the bone, connective tissues and Bio-Oss particles. The new bone occupied 11.54% (0-28.40%) of the total area; the connective tissues were 53.42% (34.08%-74.59%) and the Bio-Oss particles were 35.04% (13.92%-50.87%). The percentage of the particles, which were in contact with bone tissues, amounted to 20.13% (0-48.50%)., Conclusion: Sites grafted with Bio-Oss particles covered with Bio-Gide were comprised of connective tissues and small amounts of newly formed bone surrounding the graft particles.
