Objective: In order to identify a species of Uncaria, molecular phylogenetic analysis was carried out by using the rDNA ITS sequence as molecular marker., Method: Total DNA was extracted from the plant with modified CTAB method and thereby rDNA ITS regions were amplified with universally conserved primer. The rDNA ITS amplicon was characterized by cloning, sequencing, blasting in GenBank and phylogenetic analyses using PAUP by maximum parsimony (MP) criteria., Result: The rDNA ITS entire sequence of this species of Uncaria was 719 bp. The sequence is related to the U. sinensis available in GenBank and the similarity reaches 99.7%., Conclusion: Based on molecular biology methods of rDNA ITS region analysis, molecular identification is available in accurate classification on this species of Uncaria.

The Neoechinulin A in Cordate Pinellia Tuber was isolated by column chromatography and identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). A method of reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) for the determination of the Neoechinulin A in Cordate Pinellia Tuber was developed. The chromatography was performed on a Diamonsil C18 column (250 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 microm) with a mixture of methanol and 0.1% phosphoric acid solution (63:37, v/v) as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The detection wavelength was set at 225 nm and the column oven temperature was set at 30 degrees C. The volume of injection was 10 microL. There was a good linear relationship (r = 0.9995) between the mass concentration and the peak area of Neoechinulin A in the range of 2.0 - 40.0 mg/L. The recovery was 98.3% - 101.1%. The method is rapid and simple with good accuracy, reproducibility and suitable for the quality control of Cordate Pinellia Tuber from different sources.

A high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for the simultaneous determination of seven effective components in Houpuwenzhong capsules. The separation was performed on a Scienhome C18 column (250 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 microm) with methanol-acetonitrile-0.06% phosphonic acid (38 : 27 : 35, v/v/v) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and 30 degrees C. The detective wavelength was set at 235 nm. There were good linear relationships between the mass concentrations and the peak areas of alpinetin, glycyrrhizic acid, honokiol, cardamonin, costunolide, dehydrocostus lactone and magnolol in the ranges of 0.885 -17.7, 107 - 2140, 8.85 - 17.7, 1.035 - 20.7, 4.85 - 97, 5.9 - 118 and 17.5 - 350 mg/L, respectively. The recoveries were 96.9% - 101.1%, 96.0% - 100.5%, 100.3% - 100.8%, 97.7% - 101.4%, 100.4% - 102.3%, 96.0% - 102.3% and 96.2% - 100.6%, respectively. This method is rapid, simple and suitable for the quality control of Houpuwenzhong capsules.

The ecliptal was isolated from Herba Ecliptae by high performance liquid chromatography and identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). A method for determination of ecliptal in Herba Ecliptae was developed by using a Kromasil C18 column (200 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 microm) with a mixture of acetonitrile and 0.1% phosphoric acid solution (65:35, v/v) as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The detection wavelength was set at 365 nm and temperature was set at 30 degrees C. The volume of injection was 10 microL. There was good linear relationship (r = 0. 9993) between the mass concentration and the peak area of ecliptal in the range of 3.0 - 60.0 microg/mL. The recovery was found to be in the range of 96.7% - 100.0%. The results of the experiments have demonstrated that the established method is rapid and simple with good accuracy and reproducibility. The method is suitable for the quality control of Herba Ecliptae from different sources.

A reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method (RP-HPLC) was developed for the simultaneous determination of wedelolactone and isodemethylwedelolactone in Herba Ecliptae from different sources. The separation was performed on a Kromasil C18 column (250 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 microm), with methanol-0.5% acetic acid (55 45, v/v) as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The detection wavelength was set at 351 nm and the volume of injection was 20 microL. There were good linear relationships between the mass concentrations and the peak areas of isodemethylwedelolactone and wedelolactone in the ranges of 1.6 - 32.0 mg/L (r = 0.999 5) and 5.6 - 112.0 mg/L (r = 0.999 8), respectively. The recoveries were found to be in the range of 97.5% - 98.2% and 99.0% - 100.2%, respectively. The results of the experiments have demonstrated that the established method is rapid and simple with good accuracy and reproducibility for the simultaneous determination of wedelolactone and isodemethylwedelolactone. The method is suitable for the quality control of Herba Ecliptae from different sources.

The homoeriodictyol-7-O-beta-D-glycoside was isolated from Viscum coloratum and identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) (1H NMR and 13C NMR). A method for determination of homoeriodictyol-7-O-beta-D-glycoside in Viscum coloratum was developed by using a Kromasil C18 column (200 mm x 4.6 mm i.d., 5 microm) with a mixture of acetonitrile and 0.5% glacial acetic acid solution (18:82, v/v) as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The detection wavelength was set at 284 nm and temperature was set at 30 degrees C. The volume of injection was 10 miccro L. Good linear relationship (r = 0.9997) between the mass concentration and the peak area of homoeriodictyol-7-O-beta-D-glycoside was obtained in the range of 1.0-32.0 mg/L. The recoveries were found to be in the range of 96.0%-100.1%. The results of the experiments demonstrated that the established method is rapid and simple with good accuracy and reproducibility. The method is suitable for the quality control of Viscum coloratum from different sources.
