Due to the intensified human activities in coastal areas in recent years, the estuary wetlands have been seriously degraded. The artificial restoration using mangrove plants is considered to be an effective restoration method. The research on soil nitrogen and phosphorus mainly focuses on the natural mangrove wetlands, but there is limited information about the effects of mangrove restoration on it. The combination of field sampling and laboratory experiment were used to analyze total nitrogen and total phosphorus contents under different planting patterns during wetland restoration in Jinjiang estuary, Fujian Province. The results revealed that the total nitrogen and total phosphorus contents were higher than control, and there were significant differences between different mixed-vegetation types and planting densities, which indicated that mangrove restoration promoted their accumulation and the planting patterns could affect their concentrations. Additionally, the complex hy-drological process may also be an important factor in the estuarine areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Plant species diversity monitoring in estuarine wetland using remote sensing has important significance for ecological environment protection. It is very difficult to accurately retrieve the plant species diversity of wetland by remote sensing. The in situ data in Hangzhou Bay wetland were measured in this study. The plant species diversity indexes, including the species richness index and Simpson index were used to analyze the wetland plant species diversity. The GF-1 (High Resolution) satellite image, combined with variation function was used to analyze the spatial heterogeneity of plant species diversity in the region, and to explore the optimal scale of remote sensing plant species diversity monitoring. The correlation of the standard deviation of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) of GF-1 image and the plant diversity index was analyzed and the remote sensing model of plant species diversity in estuarine wetland of Hangzhou Bay was constructed. The current findings showed that the optimal scale of monitoring wetland plant species diversity at Hangzhou Bay was 19×19 pixel of GF-1 image. The retrieved wetland plant species diversity level of Hangzhou Bay using the remote sensing model with the optimal scale was consistent with the actual situation. Studies have shown that GF-1 satellite can be used to monitor the plant species diversity at Hangzhou Bay estuarine wetland quickly and effectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Affected by the changes of drainage basin and marine environment and human activities, estuarine wetland is fragile, sensitive, and complex in evolution. Jiuduansha Wetland is the largest estuarine shoal wetland in the Yangtze Estuary, and is undergoing rapid changes due to the reduction of sediment inputs and the invasion of alien species Spartina alterniflora . In this study, the changes of Jiuduansha Wetland from 1989 to 2020 were analyzed through remote sensing interpretation, field investigation, and topographic data analysis. The impacts of watershed sediment reduction and S. alterniflora invasion on Jiuduansha Wetland were analyzed based on the hydrological data of Datong station and the invasion history of S. alterniflora. The results showed that the total area of Jiuduansha Wetland (above -5 m) first increased and then decreased since 1991, reaching its maximum in 2005 (421.16 km 2 ). The area of tidal flat wetland (above 0 m) and wetland vegetation increased continuously from 1989 to 2020, with 1.5 times and 47.1 times increases, respectively. The decreases of sediment supply led to a decrease in the total area of Jiuduansha Wetland (above -5 m) and a decrease growth rate of tidal flat wetland area above 0 m and vege-tation area. The invasive species S. alterniflora had expanded rapidly, occupied the space of native species, and became the dominant species in Jiuduansha Wetland since it was introduced in 1997. Sediment reduction and S. alterniflora invasion had led to the rapid changes of Jiuduansha Wetland structure. In order to avoid the degradation of ecological service, wetland protection and restoration should be taken to maintain the stability and health of Jiu-duansha Wetland.

Understanding of diurnal variation of soil porewater dissolved CO 2 and CH 4 concentration plays an important role in revealing carbon cycling in estuarine wetlands.During neap and spring tidal days in April and September 2010,the diurnal variations of soil porewater dissolved CO 2 and CH 4 concentrations and main impacting factors in a brackish marsh ecosystem dominated by two species of Cyperus malaccensis (brevifolius) and Phragmites australis (common reed) were determined in the ShanYutan in the Min River estuary,southeast China.The results showed that:① the soil porewater dissolved CH 4 concentration during the spring and neap tidal days in April and September ranged from 88.20 to 190.74,53.42 to 141.24,16.27 to 81.89 and 44.90 to 88.53 μmol·L -1 ,respectively.The mean of dissolved CH 4 concentration was higher at nighttime than at daytime during the spring and neap tidal days in April,but the mean of dissolved CH 4 concentration was higher at daytime than at nighttime during the spring and neap tidal tidal days in September.② the soil porewater dissolved CO 2 concentration during the spring and neap tidal days in September ranged from 19.33 to 40.1 μmol·L -1 and 9.69 to 29.96 μmol·L -1 ,respectively,and the dissolved CO 2 concentration during daytime was lower than that at night;③ the mean of dissolved CO 2 concentration was lower during the inundation period than in the exposed soil surface period,but the mean of dissolved CH 4 concentration was higher during the inundation period than in the exposed soil surface period.

Taking Shanyuntan wetland in the Minjiang River estuary as test object, the dissolved silicates (DSi) and inorganic nitrogen contents in porewater and the biogenic silica (BSi) and total nitrogen contents in surface soil of the Phragmites australis wetland, Cyperus malaccensis wetland and Spartina alterniflora wetland were measured in October 2014 (spring tide month) and April 2015 (neap tide month), respectively, to illuminate the influence of tide on silicon and nitrogen contents in soil and porewater of estuarine wetland. Results showed that the DSi content in porewater and the BSi content in surface soil in spring tide month were slightly higher than those in neap tide month, with the highest being observed on neap tide day and the lowest occurring on spring tide day. In contrast, the BSi content in surface soil on spring tide day showed an opposite trend with that on neap tide day. The contents of NH 4 + -N and NO 3 - -N in porewater of different wetland soils in spring tide month were higher than those in neap tide month, while the content of NH 4 + -N on spring tide day was significantly higher than that on neap tide day (P<0.05). The study found that hydrological conditions such as flooding duration and drying-wetting alternation caused by tide had great influences on silicon and nitrogen contents in porewater and surface soil, and vegetation types also showed great influences on their distributions in intertidal wetland of the Minjiang River estuary.
