OBJECTIVE: To probe into the efficacy of ceftizoxime sodium for injection combined with fusidic acid cream in treatment of sequela ulcer of leprosy. METHODS: 64 patients with sequela ulcer of leprosy admitted into Leprosy Control and Prevention Center of Xiaogan from Nov. 2015 to Jun. 2017 were selected and divided into observation group and control group via random number table, with 32 cases in each. The control group was treated with ceftizoxime sodium for injection, while the observation group was given fusidic acid cream for external use based on the control group. Differences in clinical efficacy, quality of life (QOL) scores and incidences of relapse between two groups were compared. RESULTS: The total effective rate of observation group (93.75%, 30/32) was significantly higher than that of the control group (75.00%, 24/32), with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05); at the 8th week after treatment, the QOL score of observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05); at the 8th week after treatment, the incidence of relapse of observation group (0, 0/32) was significantly lower than that of the control group (21.88%, 7/32), with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of ceftizoxime sodium for injection combined with fusidic acid cream in treatment of sequela ulcer of leprosy is remarkable, which can improve patients' ulcer, promote quality of life and reduce the incidence of relapse.
