Solvothermal reaction of CuC1 with bphpzm in CH3CN resulted in the formation of the title compound [ Cu (o.-CI) (bphpzm)] n( 1 ), which was structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. 1 belongs to the monoclinic system with space group C2 and a = 3. 272 5 (8) nm, b = O. 395 28 (9) nm,c=l.311 8(3) nm,a = y = 90°,,/3= 100.465(5)°,V=1.668 7(7) nm3, CIgHI6CICuN4,Mr = 399.35 ,Do = 1. 590 g/cm3 ,Z = 4, F(000) = 816,R1 =0.028 7 ,wR2 --0. 052 7 ,S = 1. Compound 1 possesses the split-stair chain [ Cu(I*-CI) ] n chains that are bridged by bphpzm to form one two-dimensional network. In 1, each Cu atom is coordinated by two CI and two N atoms, forming a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry. The Cu-N and Cu-CI distance are 0.208 2 nm, 0.237 9 nm, respectively.
