Trade and economic development are the main influencing factors of environmental pollution. The existing literature mainly discussed the impact mechanism of trade and economic development on land pollution, ignoring the transfer effect of offshore pollution. This paper selected the panel data of 47 coastal cities from 2003 to 2016 to empirically test the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis and the "pollution shelter" hypothesis. The results showed that there was a negative correlation between foreign trade and industrial wastewater discharge in coastal cities, but it was positively correlated with offshore pollution, indicating that there was a pollution transfer effect. The relationship between offshore pollution and economic growth in coastal cities was the relationship of the "U" shaped curve did not conform to the EKC hypothesis. The conclusion of this paper means that environmental pollution should be managed from the perspective of land and sea overall planning, and the effect of pollution transfer should be suppressed.

Corruption is one of the major issues that hinder the national governance and national development of Mainland China. Scholars of development studies in China have paid much attention in this issue. Also, the Chinese government tries to impose effective control to prevent corruption from damaging Communist Party rule. Taking these factors into account, this paper is going to present, through analysis and induction, all of the possible factors which have resulted in China's political corruption. These corruption factors, though complex and diverse, can be categorized into two major types: intrinsic and extrinsic. This paper also reckons that "the existence of a solicitous margin", "a weak monitoring and countering mechanism", "opportunistic cost of lesser corruptive act", "the motivation of government pillage", "the absence of a positive official motivation system", and "the disturbance of a negative motivation system against corruption" are among the major intrinsic variables which have led to government officials' political corruption, while "administrative monopolization" is an extrinsic variable which has exacerbated the problem of corruption. If, in fact, they are indeed the key factors leading to corruption within China, then finding solutions to them could be a feasible way to curtail the government officials' corrupt practices. Based on the ORNL carbon emission measurement method, the marine fishery carbon emissions of 11 coastal provinces in China were calculated from 2009 to 2018, and by adding factors such as fiscal decentralization and industrial structure, the traditional STIRPAT model was expanded to examine the driving factors of China′s marine fishery carbon emissions. The research results showed that: fiscal decentralization, economic development level, industrial structure and scientific research investment are important driving factors for China′s marine fishery carbon emissions. Among them, due to the imperfect fiscal decentralization system and other reasons, fiscal decentralization has become a positive driving factor for marine fishery carbon emissions. The positive impact of economic development level on marine fishery carbon emissions gradually weakened with the increase of economic development level. Industrial structure and scientific research investment were the negative driving factors of marine fishery carbon emissions. Based on this, the paper proposed to optimize and improve the fiscal decentralization structure and government assessment mechanism, increase scientific research investment, optimize the industrial structure, and promote the low-carbon development of marine fisheries.

This study reviews the economic development strategies of the developing countries. Results indicate that savings, public investment, exporting, labor market competition, and government interventions were the commonly used economic development strategies for the four Asian tigers during the period from 1981 to 2005. Furthermore, China and India adopted strategies similar to that of the four Asian tigers. We also investigate which strategies are effective in spurring economic development. Results indicate that savings exerted the most significant influence on the economic development for all the countries studied except Singapore and India. Our findings suggest that the economic development strategies used by these more successful countries should be adopted by other developing countries in their quest for economic growth. In the rapid progress of China’s economic development and social security, economic development has led to a higher level of social security. Every economic crisis or economic adjustment has created the opportunity for improving social security. This paper argues that there is a "shock-response" relationship between economic development and social security and analyzes how social security changed from the passive response to the active response. Due to economic growth, the politics centering on people’s livelihood has promoted the full coverage of the social security system. The government investment in social security has been increasing, showing a new pattern of "middle-level economic growth and middle-level social welfare" and is helping to shift away from the previous "put welfare behind development" model toward simultaneous development and coordinated development. Creating a virtuous cycle of social security and economic development has become a key issue that China must face and need to solve on its way to become a strong country.

In the first decade of the 21st century, new situations have emerged with great significance for the study of national development on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, namely, the generally accepted phenomenon of democratic consolidation in the 'Taiwan experience' and the rise of the 'China model' which attracts worldwide attention. This article aims to analyze the development experiences of Taiwan and of Mainland China, to identify their common ground and differences, and to fathom the theoretical implications of these experiences. Moreover, since Taiwan is comparatively more advanced in terms of economic and political development, the author attempts to explore the value of the 'Taiwan experience' to China and the possible direction of the 'China model'.
