In order to solve the issue of water scarcity in coal mining areas, this paper collected hydro-geological data from 18 typical coal mines from six major coal mining areas of Hebi, Jiaozuo, Yongcheng, Pingdingshan, Yima and Zhengzhou in Henan Province and evaluated the utilization of groundwater resources in coal mine goaf areas, by using the AHP-set pair analysis to construct an evaluation index system. with utilization of groundwater resources in typical coal mine goafs in Henan Province as the target layer; water quantity, water quality and current status of water resources utilization in mining areas were taken as the criterion layer; twelve evaluation indicators, including mine water inflow, average coal thickness, goaf area, maximum mining depth, roof lithology, complexity of geological structure, total hardness, total dissolved solids content, pH value, chloride ion content, mine water utilization rate and incentive policies were taken as the index layer. At the same time, it also evaluated the utilization of groundwater resources in coal goafs in Henan Province and compared the results with those obtained from analytic hierarchy process. The results show that the evaluation results of the two methods are basically consistent. The utilization feasibility of groundwater resources in typical goaf of six coal mining areas in Henan Province is the best in Jiaozuo mining area, the worst in Yongcheng mining area, and the other four mining areas are in the middle and the evaluation results are similar, indicating that the evaluation index system and evaluation results of typical goaf groundwater resources in Henan Province built by AHP-set analysis method are relatively reliable.
