Anthurium crassinervium is widely cultivated for its inflorescence and showy leaves. It grows naturally as an epiphyte under the shadow of trees or on the forest floor. Samples of plants were gathered in nurseries and in forests around Barquisimeto, Lara. Segments of leaves showing anthracnose-like symptoms were incubated in petri dishes containing potato dextrose agar (PDA) at temperatures of 24° and 26°C (81-85°F). The reproductive structures of the pathogen observed in vivo and those developed in vitro confirmed the presence of a fungi of the genera Colletotrichum. Conidia measured 136.28μ wide, setae 47.61μ long, spores 14.6μ long, 4.4μ wide. These measurements are coincident with the morphometric characteristic of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Pathogenicity tests were carried out by using healthy plants from different localities. The disease symptoms were reproduced and the casual agent re-isolated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
