- Abstract
With the general availability of electronic cell counters, red cell indices as mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) can be calculated automatically, if the values of hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell count are measured. We introduce our data on MCV, MCH and MCHC among 180 hospitalized for acute respiratory tract infections infants, aged 6 m - 12 m, in Pediatric clinic, II MBAL - Sofia for 2016y. The group includes 109 boys and 71 girls, nearly 60% are gypsy. An anemic infant (Hg <105 g/L) was each fourth of them. Only 17% of the infants had normal values of MCV and just 2% - with normal MCH values. Our data proved that normal Hb values do not guarantee normal erythrocyte’s indices values, as well as that the MCH is the most sensitive index among erythrocyte’s indices [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
