Previously 47 genera of the subfamily Phaneropterinae were recorded from China, not including the genus Himertula Uvarov, 1940. Here, Himertula Uvarov, 1940 is reported in China for the first time, adding a new species H. gyirongensis sp. nov., specimens of which were collected in Tibet, China. Illustrations and habitat images are provided. The distribution of Himertula species is also discussed and mapped. The types are deposited in Insect Collection of Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (IZCAS).

The genus Paraxantia Liu & Kang, 2009 hitherto included 8 species from China. Herein we describe two new species: P. rubripes sp. nov. from ES-Tibet and P. kaquewa sp. nov. from WN-Yunnan. A female of Paraxantia is described for the first time. The differences separating Paraxantia and Xantia are redefined. Illustrations and habitus images are provided. The distribution of Paraxantia species in China is discussed and mapped. The types are deposited in Insect Collection of Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (IZCAS).

Bush-crickets (or katydids) of the genus Mecopoda are relatively large insects well-known for their sounds for centuries. Bioacoustic studies in India and China revealed a surprisingly large diversity of sound patterns. We extend these studies into the tropics of South East Asia using integrative taxonomy, combining song analysis, morphology of sound producing organs and male genitalia as well as chromosomes, to get a better understanding of the phylogeny and evolution of this widespread group. Besides the closely related genus Eumecopoda, the genus Mecopoda contains some isolated species and a large group of species which we assign to the Mecopoda elongata group. Some species of this group have broad tegmina and stridulatory files with different tooth spacing patterns and produce continuous, often relatively complicated, trill-like songs. The species of another subgroup with narrower wings have all similar files. Their songs consist of echemes (groups of syllables) which differ in syllable number and syllable repetition rate and also in echeme repetition rate. Our results show that South East Asia harbours a large and certainly not yet fully explored number of Mecopoda species which are most easily and clearly identified by song. Based on the data, five new forms are described: Mecopoda mahindai Heller sp. nov., Mecopoda paucidens Ingrisch, Su & Heller sp. nov., Mecopoda sismondoi Heller sp. nov., Mecopoda niponensis vietnamica Heller & Korsunovskaya subsp. nov., Eumecopoda cyrtoscelis zhantievi Heller subsp. nov. In addition, some taxonomic changes are proposed: Eumecopoda Hebard, 1922 stat. rev., Paramecopoda Gorochov, 2020, syn. nov. of Eumecopoda Hebard, 1922, Mecopoda javana (Johansson, 1763) stat. nov. (neotype selected) with M. javana minahasa Gorochov, 2020 stat. nov., M. javana darevskyi Gorochov, 2020 stat. nov., M. javana buru Gorochov, 2020 stat. nov., Mecopoda macassariensis (Haan, 1843) stat. rev., Mecopoda ampla malayensis Gorochov, 2020 syn. nov., Mecopada ampla javaensis Gorochov, 2020 syn. nov., Mecopoda fallax aequatorialis Gorochov, 2020 syn. nov., the last three are all synonyms of Mecopoda himalaya Liu, 2020, Mecopoda yunnana Liu 2020, stat. nov.

The genus Mecopoda Serville includes eight species, which are mostly distributed in the Oriental region and a few areas in the Palearctic and Australian region. Five species have been recorded in China. Here based on the acoustical and morphological data, we provide a review on the genus Mecopoda in China. We divide the genus Mecopoda into three species groups according to their acoustical characteristics. Six new species and one new subspecies are discovered to be new to science, that it is, M. crescendo sp. nov., M. himalaya sp. nov., M. tibetensis sp. nov., M. confracta sp. nov., M. synconfracta sp. nov., M. minor sp. nov., and M. m. yunnana subsp. nov.. The male of M. marmorata He is also firstly reported with necessary description. Now the number of the genus Mecopoda is 11 in China and 14 in the world. Necessary description and pictures map are presented.

Although in “Fauna Sinica Insecta” 247 species of Phaneropterinae are recorded for China, there is not a single record of a species from the tribe Barbitistini. Herein, we newly record a small-sized and short-winged species of this tribe belonging to the genus Poecilimon (Fischer, 1853). We identified the species as Poecilimon intermedius (Fieber, 1853) which was collected in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region, China. The records of the interesting species extend its distributional range in Asia. Detailed citations, description and necessary illustrations are provided.

Ceraeocercus Uvarov, 1910 of Tettigoniinae; Drymadusini is receded in China for the first time. Ceraeocercus fuscipennis fuscipennis Uvarov, 1910 is documented. Morphology and male calling songs are described and illustrations are provided.

Three species of the leaf-mimicking Tettigoniidae, Leptoderes Serville, 1838 were reported in the southeast of Asia. Here, we redescribe the type species L. ornatipennis Serville, and describe two new species Leptoderes shuzhenae sp. nov. and L. dianensis sp. nov., respectively from Tibet and Yunnan, China. Leptoderes now comprises five species. Informative illustrations are provided. The distribution of the Leptoderes Serville species is discussed and mapped. The holotypes are deposited in Insect Collection of Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (IZCAS).

The genus Molpa Walker was previously considered to be disjunctly distributed in broad-leaf rain forests in India and Malaysia. Here we report one new species Molpa dulongensis sp. nov. from subtropic broad-leaf rain forests in southwestern Yunnan Province in China. This is a part of the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot area. So we can infer that Molpa is continuously distributed in broad-leaf rain forests found in Oriental Region. Redescription of the genus Molpa and description of the new species Molpa dulongensis sp. nov. are provided. The types are deposited in Insect Collection of Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (IZCAS).

First description of the female of Glyphonotus sinensis from China is provided. Detailed characteristics of head, pronotum, leg spination, wings, and female abdominal apex are given. Important and necessary illustrations of female of the species are presented.

Two new species Atlanticus (Sinpacificus) jiangyei sp. n. and Atlanticus (Sinpacificus) helleri sp. n. are described, based on morphology and male calling songs. Based on the morphological characters, the closest relative of Atlanticus (Sinpacificus) jiangyei sp. n. and that of Atlanticus (Sinpacificus) helleri sp. n. are separately assumed to be Atlanticus (Sinpacificus) hangfui Liu, and Atlanticus (Sinpacificus) kiangsui Tinkham. Discussion about characteristics of Atlanticus species is also provided.

The genus Mongolodectes is endemic to vast Mongolian Plateau and has two recorded species in the Mongolian People's Republic and one species in China's Inner Mongolia. Here we describe one new species Mongolodectes huangi sp. n. from China's Inner Mongolia. Further investigations are needed for precise identification and complete understanding on the fauna of the Mongolian Plateau.

Two new species Hemielimaea (Hemielimaea) paracari sp. nov. and H. (H.) parva sp. nov. from southwestern China are described. Characteristics of the stridulatory file on underside of male left tegmen, male stridulatory area on left and right tegmen, and abdominal apex of male are provided. Important and necessary illustrations of the new species are presented. The genus Tapiena (Orthoptera: Phaneropteridae: Phaneropterinae), consisting of species from around Asia and Africa, is reviewed. Henningian species concept was applied and morphology was used to estimate species boundaries. From Sakaerat Environmental Research Station, Thailand, two new species are described: Tapiena sakaerat Tan, Liu, Artchawakom sp. n. and Tapiena denticulata Tan, Liu, Artchawakom sp. n. This represents the first record of the genus Tapiena in Thailand. A key to the species of Tapiena (for males only) is also provided.

During a 14-day excursion in March 1990, 28 species of tettigonioids were found at Irangi (1o54’S, 28o27’E), ca.100 km north west of Bukavu at Lake Kivu (Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire), and at other localities near Bukavu. One species — Arantia (Arantia) gracilicercata Heller sp. n. — is new to science, another one— Pantecphyllus helleri Schmidt et al. 2004—was already described as new in a generic revision. All our specimens of the morphologically quite diverse and sexually dimorphic phaneropterine genus Arantia were studied using molecular methods. We propose a new subgenus Arantia (Euarantia ) Heller subgen. n. based on relative tegmen width. Songs and stridulatory organs were studied in 9 species. Two phaneropterines, Horatosphaga leggei and Pardalota asymmetrica , showed remarkable calling songs lasting more than 10 s and produced by quite complicated stridulatory movements. The song of the large phaneropterine Zeuneria biramosa is noteworthy because of its unusually low carrier frequency of 3.7 kHz. Based on the examination of other specimens and species, some taxonomic changes are proposed (Phaneropteridae Burmeister, 1838 stat. rev.; Afromecopoda monroviana (Karsch, 1886) stat. rev.; Leproscirtus ebneri Karny, 1919, syn. n., Leproscirtus karschi Karny, 1919, syn. n., Leproscirtus granulosus aptera Karny, 1919, syn. n., all synonyms of Leproscirtus granulosus (Karsch, 1886); Lanistoides Sjostedt, 1913 stat. rev.; Plastocorypha cabrai Griffini, 1909 stat. n.).

Elimaea Stal is a comparatively large genus in the subfamily Phaneropterinae, which is mostly characterized by symmetric exposed tibial tympana and commonly distributed in Asia. The genus includes 6 subgenera and 131 valid species. However, species diversity of the genus Elimaea has been occasionally investigated in China. Here we provide a checklist of 53 species in the genus Elimaea and its relative from China, among which 23 species are new to science. We also establish one new subgenus Rectielimaea subgen. nov. for the type species Elimaea (Rectielimaea) percauda sp. nov., which is distinguished from other subgenera by the phallus with a long log-like sclerite horizontally produced outwards. In addition, we consider that proximal part of MP+CuIP vein in tegminal dorsal part is possibly more or less different among species and subgenera: (a) straight in the subgenera Elimaea and Rectielimaea subgen. nov. and in the species Elimaea (Schizelimaea) mira Gorochov, 2009, or (b) more or less convex laterad in the other subgenera without exception of other species in the subgenus Schizelimaea. Necessary illustrations are provided.

A list of and key to Phaneroptera from China is provided. One new species with comparatively short hind wings, Phaneroptera brevicauda sp. nov. is described. And a new small-sized genus and new species Anormalous zhangi sp. gen. & nov. is also described here. The new genus most resembles the genera in the tribe Ducetiini in shape of lateral lobe of pronotum, structure of the tympana, shape of fore tibiae, and male subgenital plate without styli, but differs by the special tegminal structure. Both new species are distributed in southwestern China. Necessary illustrations are provided.

Inclusion of the tribe Holochlorini has been questionable, for its complicated history and its controversial important diagnostic character about structure of tibial tympana. Here we briefly introduce its history and summarize its inclusion in the world and in China. We also introduce a newly recorded genus from China, Arnobia, and other two genera in the tribe, Psyrana and Phaulula, provide a list of Chinese species for the three genera, separately, together with the key to species of the three genera. At the same time, we describe seven new species to science in the Holochlorini, i.e., Arnobia hainanensis sp. nov., Arnobia guangxiensis sp. nov., Phaulula apicalis sp. nov., Psyrana magna sp. nov., Psyrana heptagona sp. nov., Parapsyra brevicauda sp. nov., and Sinochlora semicircula sp. nov. Diagnostic illustrations are presented.

Tapiena Bolivar, 1906 (type species Tapeina acutangula Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878) (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) is reviewed from China. A list and an identification key to ten species of Tapiena from China are given. Three new species are described: T. parapentagona sp. n., T. bilobata sp. n., and T. stridulous sp. n.. The previously unknown female of T. spinicaudata Liu & Xia, 1996 are described for the first time. Based on the examination of male stridulatory area, some known species are redescribed. Important and necessary illustrations, a distribution map, and discussion on distribution of Tapiena are provided.

Two new genera, Parapelerinus gen. nov., and Conversifastigia gen. nov. with three new species, P. ensatus sp. nov., P. emarginatus sp. nov., and C. gressitti sp. nov. are described from Southern China. Principal taxonomic and diagnostic characters including structure of head, tegmen, stridulatory file of male, male and female apex are illustrated. Parapelerinus is distinguished from other related genera by the sword-like ovipositor, which is very uncommon in the subfamily Phaneropterinae. The species of Conversifastigia gen. nov. possess a pyramidal fastigium frontis, which is not present in related genera.
