Abstract

In an 22 years old woman a complete transsection of the truncus brachiocephalicus occurred during tracheotomia. The bleeding was interrupted by Kocher-clamps, which led to a traumatisation of the ends of the cut vessel. Therefore, an end-to-end anastomosis could not be performed and saphenous vein of 3 cm length was used to bridge the defect. Follow-up 5 years later: no complaints, no difference of blood pressure, no stenosis. Complete recovery. A control angiogram could not be performed since the patient gave no consent.

Abstract

Unexpected arteriosclerotic aneurysms were found in 11 patients during operation performed for other reasons. They were located in the abdominal part of the aorta (8 cases), in the popliteal artery (2 cases) and in the cranial mesenterial artery (1 case). Complications of these aneurysms such as rupture or peripheral embolization, led to surgical intervention in 5 patients.
