Abstract

The present status of experimental approach to 100Sn in the spectroscopy of excited states is landmarked by the Tz=3/2 nuclei between 95Pd and 101In and the Tz=1 nuclei 94Pd and 98Cd. The detection limits with Pre-EUROBALL γ-arrays and ancillary detectors are below the 10−5 level of the total fusion- evaporation residue cross section. A large scale shell model analysis of the existing data reveals the shell structure at 100Sn, which shows a remarkable similarity to 56Ni. Evidence for an increasing proton-neutron interaction in approaching the N=Z line is deduced from high spin isomers and spherical yrast lines. The effective E2 operator for protons and neutrons and implications for a low lying particle-hole (ph) E2 excitation in 100Sn are discussed.

Abstract

Decay experiments for 148Ho 6− and 150Tm 6− were carried out at the GSI On-line mass separator using 5 MeV/A 58Ni-beams on 94Mo and 96Ru targets. Gammaγ-and γX-coincidences established the 150Tm 6− decay scheme, and e− gave firm Iπ assignments for 148Dy and 150Er levels fed in the decays. It was found that the previously unknown \(6_1^ -\) state in 150Er receives significant β-strength, which strongly suggests \(\pi {h_{11/2}}\nu s_{1/2}^{ - 1}\) character for the 150Tm 6− isomer. The results are discussed in terms of the expected GT strength function. Shell model calculations for the \(\pi h_{11/2}^4\) yrast states are presented.

Abstract

High spin states in nuclei in the 208Pb region were populated in deep inelastic collisions of 136Xe and 208Pb projectiles with thick 208Pb targets at about 50 MeV above the Coulomb barrier. Prompt and prompt-delayed γ-ray coincidences were measured. Four new states above the 8+ isomer in 210Pb were found and spins and parities assigned from theoretical expectations. The results are discussed in the frame of shell model theory.

Abstract

Neutron deficient (98)pd nuclei were produced in the Cr-50(Ni-58,2p2 alpha)(98) Pd reaction at a beam energy of 261 MeV. A revision and extension of the level structure of (98)pd is proposed. About 40 new transitions have been assigned to, and placed in the level scheme of this nucleus. A sequence of states are candidates for the negative parity 4-quasiparticle states built on the pi g(9/2)(-3)pi p(1/2)(-1) configuration predicted in the framework of the nuclear shell model.

Abstract

The nucleus 146Tb was studied from in beam γγ-and conversion electron measurements. The level scheme was established up to ∼5MeV above the (πh11/2vd3/2−1)5−β-isomer. In addition to the known (πh11/2vh11/2−1)10+ E3-isomer, the 8+ and 11+ members of this configuration were located. The levels at the yrast line are dominated by the couplings of the πh11/2vh11/2−1 valence nucleons to the collective 3− octupole state and to the πh11/2d5/2−1 and πh11/2g7/2−1 particle-hole excitations of 146Gd.

Abstract

By analysis of fission product γ-rays measured at Eurogam II using a 248Cm source, the (vf7/2)2 multiplet in the N = 84 nucleus 134Sn has been identified up to a 6+ isomeric state at 1246 keV. The B(E2; 6+→4+) is determined to be 36±7 e2fm4 corresponding to a vf7/2 E2 effective charge of 1.02±0.10.10 e.

Abstract

Prompt γ-ray cascades in neutron-rich nuclei around doubly-magic 132Sn have been studied using a 248Cm fission source. Yrast states located in the N = 82 isotones 134Te and 135I are interpreted as valence proton and neutron particle-hole core excitations with the help of shell model calculations employing empirical nucleon-nucleon interactions from both 132Sn and 208Pb regions.

Abstract

Excited states in Sn-102 have been identified for the first time, in an in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopic experiment. Two gamma-ray transitions with energies 1472 and 497 keV following the decay of the seniority 6(+) isomer with t(1/2) = 1.0(5) mu s were unambiguously assigned to Sn-102. Due to the very low cross section of about 2 mu b for producing Sn-102 in the reaction Cr-50(Ni-58,1 alpha 2n), a highly selective detector setup utilizing NORDBALL ancillary detectors and a recoil catcher device was used. High gamma-ray detection efficiency was achieved with two EUROBALL Ge cluster detectors.

Abstract

The level scheme of the N=82 nucleus 145Eu has been extended to I=(55/2) and Ex=11.2 MeV in an experiment with the Tessa Compton-suppressed Ge detector array using the 127I(22Ne,4n) reaction. Most of the complicated and irregular level scheme of 145Eu can be interpreted as proton multi-quasiparticle states in comparison to the 64 146 Gd82 core nucleus but also excitations across the neutron N=82 core have been observed.

Abstract

In (α,5n) in-beam γ- and electron measurements we have established high-spin states in the 3-neutronhole nuclei141Sm and143Gd. Observed energy levels below 4 MeV are interpreted in terms of shell model configurations where the odd h11/2 neutron hole couples to the N=80 core excitations containing one h11/2 proton particle or one h11/2 neutron hole. Higher-lying yrast states are built on a 23/2− level at Rd 3.2 MeV probably involving the πh12/2guh112/−1 configUTa-tion.

In a high sensitivity (α,2nγ) in-beam study of 62 144 Sm82, with the Kolner Wurfel OSIRIS γ-detector array including a Compton polarimeter, we have identified the complete two-proton multiplets πd 5 2/−2 , πd 5 2/−1 g 7 2/−1 , πg 7 2/−2 , πh11/2d 5 2/−1 and the 9− to 4− members of the πh11·/2g 7 2/−1 multiplet.

Abstract

The mean ranges of the recoil nuclei from the reaction27Al(γ, π+)27Mg have been measured at maximum bremsstrahlung energies of 250, 400 and 800 MeV using catcher-foil techniques. The experimentally-determined ranges in directions along and perpendicular to the photon beam are in good agreement with calculated values based on the Fermi gas model and the impulse approximation.

Abstract

A high-sensitivity?-spectroscopic study of the149Hoph11/2 andps1/2ß-decays using mass separated sources has located dominant 0+ ? 1+ GT decay strength associated with decay of pairedh11/2 protons, leading to 3?-states in the149Dy daughter nucleus. In their?-decay low-lying149Dy levels characteristic of anN=83 nucleus are excited. They include the?f7/2,?p3/2,?h9/2 and?p1/2 single particle- and the?s12/-1 and?d32/-1 two-particle one-hole states, as well as the ?f7/2 × 3- and?f7/2 × 2+ particle-phonon multiplets. A synopsis is given of these excitations in theN=83 isotones from149Nd to153Yb. The149Dy GT decay strength is discussed in terms of the147Tb82 and148Dy82 decays. The strength function results are also compared with independent149Ho 11/2- decay data from the literature based on total?-ray absorption measurements.

Withγ -γ coincidence measurements 2 new decays of the 10+ isomer, namely a 34.5 keVE2-transition to 82+ and a 857.7 keVE3 transition to 7− have been found and the wavefunctions of the participating levels deduced. An observed gamma cascade of 295.3, 348.0, 865.4 and 340.2 keV on top of the 10+ isomer is assigned to the particle-hole states with the highest spins 14− 6744.1 keV→13− 6448.9 keV→12+ 6100.9 keV→11+ 5235.6 keV→10+ 4895.4 keV.

Abstract

In (a,xn) and (12C, 5n) in-beam?-ray experiments with pulsed beams the decay of the 560 ns high-spin isomer in147Gd has been investigated. Extensive coincidence measurements identified in the isomeric decay more than eighty?-rays which almost all were placed in the level scheme. Of crucial importance for establishing the highly complex decay was the comparison of data from the different reactions and the identification of transitions which bypass the 27 ns isomer at 3.58 MeV. Our data determine the excitation of the 560 ns isomer as 8.588 MeV and suggest 47/2 as its most probable spin.
