3. Mechanical and structural properties of friction stir weld of dissimilar aluminum alloys

In this work, the structural and mechanical properties of friction stir welded dissimilar butt joints of AA2024-T351 to AA5083-H112 aluminum alloys were evaluated. Plates of 6 mm thick were friction stir welded with optimized tool. In the first case, plate of AA2024 was positioned on the advancing and plate of AA5083 was on the retreating side of the weld. In second case, position of the plate was opposite. Specimens were welded using rotation rate of 750 rpm and welding speed of 73 and 93 mm/min. Specimens were defect free, with good or acceptable weld surface. The effects of rotation and lateral speed of the welding tool were related to structural features and mechanical properties. The structural appearances of concentric rings in the nugget zone were controlled by tool speed and plate position. Structural analysis of the joint cross-section, revealed the distinct lamellar bands. The joints consistently failed on the AA5083 aluminum alloy plate. Failures were observed through the heat-affected zone at distance of approximately 21 mm from weld center., U radu su predstavljeni rezultati strukturnih i mehaničkih ispitivanja sučeonih spojeva raznorodnih aluminijumskih legura AlCu4,5Mg (AA2024) i AlMg4,5Mn (AA5083) zavarenih postupkom FSW. Primenom optimizovang alata za zavarivanje, spojene su ploče debljine 6 mm. Međusobni položaj ploča u spoju je variran tako da je u prvom slučaju ploča od AA2024 pozicionirana na strani napredovanja a ploča od AA5083 na povratnoj strani spoja. U drugom slučaju položaj ploča je bio obrnut. Korišćeni su sledeći parametri zavarivanja: brzina rotacije alata nije menjana i iznosila je 750 obr/min a brzina zavarivanja iznosila je 73 i 93 mm/min. Dobijeni su spojevi bez prisustva grešaka i sa glatkom odnosno prihvatljivo ravnom površinom spoja. Analiziran je uticaj parametra zavarivanja na dobijenu strukturu i mehanička svojstva spoja. Oblik grumena i u njemu prisutnih koncentričnih krugova, zavisi od brzine zavarivanja i položaja ploča u spoju. Do loma uvek dolazi na strani spoja gde je pozicionirana ploča od legure AA5083. Karakteristično je da se lom uvek dešava na rastojanju od oko 21 mm od centra spoja.

U radu su predstavljeni rezultati strukturnih i mehaničkih ispitivanja sučeonih spojeva raznorodnih aluminijumskih legura AlCu4,5Mg (AA2024) i AlMg4,5Mn (AA5083) zavarenih postupkom FSW. Primenom optimizovang alata za zavarivanje, spojene su ploče debljine 6 mm. Cilj rada je analiza promene vertikalne sile i temperature tokom procesa zavarivanja trenjem mešanjem (FSW) legura aluminijuma visoke čvrstoće (2024 T3). FSW postupak je složen nelinearan proces praćen velikim plastičnim deformacijama, visokim temperaturama i plastičnim tečenjem materijala u zoni zavarivanja. To je postupak spajanja materijala u tzv. čvrstoj fazi, kombinovanim delovanjem toplote i mehaničkog rada. Analiza promene sile i temperature tokom procesa zavarivanja omogućava bolje razumevanje i kontrolu samog procesa. U radu je analizirana i praćena promena sile u vertikalnom pravcu pomoću dinamometra i promena temperature na gornjoj površini radne ploče u blizini čela valjka alata pomoću termovizijske kamere.

- Abstract
A significant increase in the research activity dedicated to high manganese TWIP steels has occurred during the past few years, motivated by the breakthrough combination of strength and ductility possessed by these alloys. Here a short review of the relations between microstructure and mechanical properties is presented. This summarized knowledge explains why TWIP steel metallurgy is currently a topic of great practical interest of especially automotive industry., Dvojnikovanjem Izazvana Plastičnost (TWinning Induced Plasticity - TWIP) u čelicima je fenomen koji je omogućio razvoj zasebne grupe čelika za koju se pretpostavlja da će imati masovnu upotrebu, naročito u autoindustriji. Mikrostruktura ovih čelika na sobnoj temperaturi se sastoji od austenita koji je stabilisan značajnim dodatkom mangana. U toku deformacije dolazi do dvojnikovanja koje značajno povećava otpor deformaciji, uz zadržavanje odlične plastičnosti, tako da su čvrstoće od 1300-2000 MPa praćene izduženjem od minimalno 45%. Sa vremena istraživanja su više usmerena na ispunjenje tehnoloških zahteva, kao što su zavarljivost, koroziona postojanost, mašinska obradljivost i sl.

The aim of this paper is to analyze changes of vertical force and temperature during friction stir welding process of high strength aluminum alloys (2024 T3). FSW process is a complex nonlinear process accompanied by large plastic deformation, high temperatures and plastic material flow in the welding zone. It is the procedure of material connecting in the so-called solid phase, through the combined action of heat and mechanical work. Analysis of force and temperature changes during the process of welding allows better understanding and control of the process. 8. Influence of initial state on properties of mma welded 14mov 6 3 steel

The aim of this work was to establish the influence of initial state of base metal on properties of mma welded 14MoV 6 3 steel. Three combinations of specimens were welded: (i) virgin-virgin (N-N); (ii) used-used (S-S); (iii) virgin-used (N-S). Used specimens were 52000 hours in exploitation. It has been established that the fracture is initiated in the zone of used part. It is assumed that the critical conditions were achieved as the consequence of creep induced grain growth and particle coarsening. On the other hand, testing of unused specimens revealed the highest level of strength., U radu je ispitan uticaj stanja osnovnog metala na osobine REL zavarenog spoja čelika 14MoV 6 3. Zavarene su tri kombinacije uzoraka: (i) nekorišćen; (ii) korišćen-korišćen; i (iii) korišćen nekorišćen. Korišćeni uzorci su bili u upotrebi preko 52000 sati. Utvrđeno je da do loma dolazi uvek u osnovnom metalu korišćenog uzorka. Pretpostavljeno je da kritični uslovi nastaju usled puzanjem izazvanog rasta zrna i/ili taloga. Najviši nivo zatezne čvrstoće je u kombinaciji dva nekorišćena uzorka.

9. Avoidance of tunnel type defect in FSW welded Al 5052-H32 plates

- Abstract
Some experiences in elimination of tunnel type defect Friction Stir Welding of Al alloy 5052-H32 are presented in this paper. In order to evaluate the influence of the processing parameter (ratio between rotation and translation speed during welding) on the occurrence of tunnel type defects and quality of welded joint, different welding parameters were varied. Welded joints were tested by means of both nondestructive (visual inspection, X-ray inspection) and destructive (metallographic, bending, tension and hardness) testing. Best results were obtained for the ratio between 6.45 and 8.22. Results suggest that with this ratio, the material flows around the pin with optimal speed, i.e. sufficient amount of material is available to fulfill the gap and prevent tunnel formation., U radu su predstavljena iskustva na eliminaciji greške tunela u zavarenim spojevima dobijenih zavarivanjem ploča postupkom zavarivanja trenjem alatom na leguri Al 5052-H32. U cilju određivanja uticaja parametara zavarivanja (odnos brzine rotacije alata i brzine zavarivanja-translacije) na pojavu greške tunela i kvalitet zavarenog spoja, parametri su varirani u širokom opsegu. Zavareni spojevi su ispitivani metodama bez razaranja (vizuelno, penetrantima i rentgenski) i sa razaranjem (metalografski, zatezanje, tvrdoća i savijanje). Zavareni spojevi sa najboljim osobinama postignuti su kod spojeva zavarenih korišćenjem odnosa u opsegu od 6.45 do 8.22. Rezultati ukazuju da su to odnosi koji obezbeđuju optimalni način tečenja materijala oko trna alata, tj. da je kontinuirani dotok materijala na povratnu stranu dovoljan da homogeno popunjava prazninu i spreči pojavu kanala.

The objective of this paper is a development of welding technology of aluminium alloys by Friction Stir Welding (FSW). FSW is a very modern welding process with a great future use, primarily due to a variety of possible combinations of dissimilar materials to be welded. In this paper experimental results of butt welds for the friction stir welding of aluminium alloys are analyzed. A comparison hardness distribution in the welds was done considering welding parameters, that is the quantity of heat in the welding zone, panels thickness and aluminum alloy type., Cilj rada je osvajanje tehnologije zavarivanja aluminijumskih legura postupkom zavarivanja trenjem alatom (FSW). Zavarivanje trenjem alatom predstavlja jedan od najsavremenijih postupaka, sa velikom perspektivom dalje primene, pošto pruža najraznovrsnije mogućnosti za zavarivanje raznorodnih materijala. U radu su analizirani eksperimentalni rezultati su čeono zavarenih spojeva aluminijumskih ploča zavarenih postupkom zavarivanja trenjem alatom. Izvršeno je poređenje raspodele tvrdoće u zavarenom spoju u zavisnosti od parametara zavarivanja odnosno količine unete toplote u zoni zavarivanja, debljine ploča i tipa aluminijumske legure.

- Abstract
A metallurgical base of alloying in cryogenic steels is presented in this paper. The common use of these steels is for tanks for liquid gases. Main alloying element is Ni, added in amounts between 2.25 and 9 % due to different service temperatures. Selection of welding technology and filler material, together with welding suggestions, are discussed., U radu su date fizičko-metalurške osnove legiranja čelika za upotrebu na niskim temperaturama. Ovi čelici se najčešće koriste za izradu rezervoara za skladištenje tečnih gasova. Glavni legirajući element Ni se dodaje u količinama 2.25 do 9%, u zavisnosti od radne temperature. Razmotrena su ograničenja u izboru dodatnih materijala i preporuke za zavarivanje.

The aim of this work was to determine the influence of welding heat input on hardness distribution after SURFACING of two quench+temper steels. The results indicate that variation of heat input can partially provide required hardness distribution in heat affected zone., U radu je prikazan uticaj pogonske energije zavarivanja na raspodelu tvrdoće u ZUT pri navarivanju dva čelika za poboljšanje. Utvrđeno je da se variranjem nivoa pogonske energije navarivanja može u znatnoj, ali ne i dovoljnoj meri, obezbediti dobijanje željene raspodele tvrdoće u ZUT.

- Abstract
Physical and metallurgical basis of historical steel development and some modern solutions for specific applications, together with predictions and projections of future development are reviewed in this paper. Undoubtedly, in future, steel will remain absolutely most used construction material due to the best relationship properties/price. Dominant place is reserved for steels for welded constructions, and their further development will be provided by application of concept of Total Thermomechanical Control Processing (TTCMP). Simultaneously, predictions consider intensive Development in the field of welding procedures, filler materials, modeling of TMCP and welding, with aim to provide fabrication of welded constructions with improved safety., U radu su izložene fiziko-metalurške osnove istorijskog razvoja čeličnih materijala, primeri savremenih rešenja čelika za specifične namene i pretpostavke daljeg razvoja. Nedvosmisleno, u budućnosti, čelični materijali će ostati suvereno najrasprostranjeniji konstrukcioni materijal, zbog najboljeg odnosa kvalitet/cena. Dominantno mesto će zauzimati čelici predviđeni za izradu zavarenih konstrukcija, a njihov razvoj će biti omogućen konceptom totalne termomehaničke prerade. Uporedo, predviđa se intenzivan razvoj na polju tehnologija zavarivanja, dodatnih materijala, matematičkog modeliranja termomehaničke prerade i zavarivanja, sa ciljem da se obezbedi izrada zavarenih konstrukcija povišene sigurnosti.
