Members of the upper class receive more services for less, compared to those of the lower class. This is true because an increase in income and social status carries with it an increase in benefits, tax credits and other free services. For example, most plane passengers in the first class section enjoy free travel benefits, while those in the economy section most likely paid for their own tickets.

Women have been isolated from nature by staying indoors far too long. This is perhaps due to fear of being attacked or raped when striking out into the wilds. The collection of essays addresses the therapeutic side of the wilderness and how risk can enhance women's self-esteem. This is the first collection of writings which deals with wilderness therapy for women. The symbolic value of accomplishments in the wilderness to women's mental health is also addressed.

Problems encountered by feminist therapists in coping with the demands of their work were recounted. The problems discussed were that students often assumed women therapists to be clerical employees, therapists were expected to always have the time and energy to provide services to faculty and students, were more involved with helping victims of sexual abuse than male therapists and were unable to discuss their problems even at social events. Suggestions with which feminist therapists can cope with their work environments were presented.

Esther Rothblum and Ellen Cole were coeditors of Women & Therapy from 1984-1995. In this article we describe the process of editing a feminist journal in the 1980s and 1990s, including how each of us came to be an editor.
