Abstract

A new study led by researchers at UCLA has provided a new explanation for placenta accreta spectrum disorder, a condition where the placenta fails to separate from the uterus at birth. Previous beliefs attributed this condition to certain invasive placental cells, but the study suggests that genetic and cellular changes within single cells at the placenta-uterus junction may be responsible. The research identified differentially expressed genes in placenta accreta spectrum disorder and highlighted the role of the uterine lining and blood vessels in causing the placenta to attach too tightly.
