In today's world, dyslexia is a common disorder primarily prevalent among young children. One of the premier subtypes of this disorder based on the characteristics of the errors made by them is Letter Position Dyslexia. The key factor of the proposed work is that it focuses on the identification of Bengali speaking children with letter position dyslexia in West Bengal, India by testing the reading ability at word level. Bengali belongs to the Indo-Aryan category of language which encompasses 193 million vernacular speakers and nearly 250 million overall speakers. Though having such an enormous range of speakers, to our supreme knowledge there is no specific assessment or screening procedure to address this problem for Bengali native speakers which is the primary reason to conduct the investigation presented in this paper and the potential readers of this paper would also be benefited likewise. The results of this paper indicated significant presence of this type of impairment among Bengal speaking children when compared with the control group. The average number of migration errors, middle letter migration and exterior letter migration performed by the letter position dyslexics in English language is 22.25, 19.3 and 2.92 and for the control group it is 6.88, 5.75 and 1.12 and for Bengali language it is 10.92, 0.92 and 10 for letter position dyslexics and for control groups it is 1.83, 0.17 and 1.67. There is a significant difference between the mean score of Dyslexic and Control group groups (The p-value of t test is < 0.05). The difference between the middle and exterior letter migration performed by the two groups is also significant (p-value of t test is < 0.05). A correlation measure of 0.593895 is observed between English and Bengali Letter position dyslexics. Apart from this, the variation of the pronunciations of the kids for different words is analyzed and the class wise variation of pronunciations is plotted graphically. The paper shall assist the readers in raising awareness about Letter position Dyslexia, its types and possibility of new areas of research to overcome such disorder through assistive techniques especially for Bengali native speakers.
