In this review the pathomechanisms of human trichinellosis with particular relation to intestinal and muscular invasion are presented. The numerous factors initiated by antigen released by Trichinella, which play a role in the development of pathological process (including immunological, pathomorphological, metabolic and bioelectric disturbances) and short clinical characteristics of the disease are also presented. Pathology of late period of trichninellosis sequelae are discussed.

The aim was to examine the osmotic resistance dynamics in rats infected with Trichinella spiralis. Antioxidant "AKbeta" vitamin complex used together with Vermox, decreases the toxic effect of Vermox, thereby causes the stabilization of red blood cells membrane osmotic resistance parameters in rats.

Since early times, opinions of clinicians in distant sequele of the experienced once trichinellosis remain controversial. A set of studies was performed in 75 patients who had experienced trichinellosis 1, 3, 4, 6, or 7 years earlier. Persistence of the general clinical symptoms and of the motor system symptoms as well as persistence of IgG class antibodies against the E/S antigen of Trichinella sp. it was found in 77.3% examined patients. In 84.0% patients bioelectric disturbances (EMG, ENG) were detected. Parasitological studies and pathomorphological examination of muscle biopsies performed in 24 patients pointed to degradation of Trichinella larvae and to the incompletely extinguished pathological process.

Four patients with severe form of trichinellosis were treated with plasmapheresis. We noticed clinical improvement and favourable alterations in laboratory profiles (morphology and immune response parameters in the blood). The effect of plasmapheresis therapy in patients with trichinellosis was considered beneficial. No major complications of plasmapheresis were observed.
