This article discusses some changes made in the editorial structure of the journal "Western Speech." Journalists are now working with an editorial staff consisting of an editor, an associate editor, and a consulting editor. Instead of an editorial board representing the major divisions of field they have chosen to use the manuscript system. At the time a manuscript is received it is assigned to a person who is a recognized expert in the field with which it deals. This system allows them to receive truly expert judgments about the manuscripts submitted to them. The final decision concerning publication is, of course, in the hands of the editors. The referee system has been of value in stimulating interest in the journal "Western Speech," and in motivating authors to revise their papers as suggested.
