Analyzing land subsidence using Multi-temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (MT-InSAR) technology holds significant importance for the secure development of urban areas. Shenzhen, being a crucial component of the Pearl River Delta, faces the threat of land subsidence, similar to most deltaic cities. Numerous studies have already indicated the presence of severe land subsidence in certain localities of Shenzhen. However, due to limitations in data scope and research methodologies, the comprehensive spatial-temporal distribution of land subsidence across the entire city of Shenzhen remains unclear. This study initially employed MT-InSAR technology to process a total of 534 Sentinel-1A SAR images from three different frames (P11F71, P113F71, P11F65), covering the entire city of Shenzhen. This processing resulted in the generation of subsidence rate maps and subsidence time series. Subsequently, the temporal evolution patterns of the subsidence were analyzed while significant subsidence regions were identified. By integrating information from optical images reflecting human activities on the Earth's surface, the study deduced the subsidence mechanisms in various significant subsidence areas. Research findings indicate that land subsidence in Shenzhen is primarily caused by construction activities, with a concentration in the western coastal areas of Shenzhen, reaching a maximum rate of 80 mm/yr, located at the estuary of Dongbao River (113.770385, 22.745305). The cumulative subsidence from March 2017 to June 2023 amounts to 500 mm. The expansion of the Qinglinjing Reservoir has led to an increased demand for water, resulting in a significant rise in formation pressure and subsequent land subsidence. InSAR land subsidence monitoring and analysis in urban areas can address the spatial and temporal resolution limitations of traditional subsidence monitoring methods, providing effective recommendations for widespread subsidence prevention and control. In the low-lying, river-rich Pearl River Delta in South China, an extensive network of flood defense levees, spanning over 4400 km, plays a crucial role in urban flood management. These levees are designed to withstand floods and storm surges, yet their failure can lead to significant human and economic losses, highlighting the need for robust urban flood defense strategies. This necessitates the development of a sophisticated geographic information system for the levee network and rapid, accurate assessment methods for levee conditions to support water management and flood mitigation efforts. This study focuses on the levees along the Hengmen waterway in the Pearl River Delta, utilizing airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology to gather 3D spatial data of the levees. Employing the Cloth Simulation Filter (CSF) algorithm, non-ground point cloud data were extracted. The study improved upon the region-growing algorithm, using a seed point set approach for the automatic extraction of levee point cloud data. The accuracy and completeness of levee extraction were evaluated using the quality index. This method achieved effective extraction of four levee types, showing significant improvements over traditional algorithms, with extraction quality ranging from 72% to 83%. Key research outcomes include the development of a novel method for detecting localized levee depressions based on the computation of the variance of angles between normal vectors in single-phase levee point cloud data. An adaptive optimal neighborhood approach was utilized to accurately determine the normal vectors, effectively representing the local morphology of the levee point clouds. Applied in three levee depression detection experiments, this method proved effective, demonstrating the capability of single-phase data in identifying regions of levee depression deformation. This advancement in levee monitoring technology marks a significant step forward in enhancing urban flood defense capabilities in regions such as the cities of the Pearl River Delta in China. Cities with sloping terrain are more susceptible to flooding during heavy rains. Traditional hydraulic models struggle to meet computational demands when addressing such emergencies. This study presented an integration of the one-dimensional Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) and the two-dimensional LISFLOOD-FP model, where the head difference at coupled manholes between the two models functioned as the connection. Based on its calculation results, this study extracted the characteristic parameters of the rainfall data, simplified the SVR calculation method and developed a high-efficiency solution for determining the maximum ponding depth. The cost time of this model was stable at approximately 1.0 min, 95% faster compared to the one from the mechanism model for 5 h simulation under the same working conditions. Flooding is a major environmental problem facing urban cities, causing varying degrees of damage to properties and disruption to socio-economic activities. Nigeria is the most populous African country and Kano metropolis is the second largest urban center in Nigeria, and the most populated in Northern Nigeria. The aim of the paper was to conduct a flood risk assessment of Kano metropolis. The city is divided into two hydrological basins: the Challawa and Jakara basins. Flood frequency analyses for 2 to 100-year return periods were carried out for both the basins using a Log-Pearson Type III distribution and flood inundation and hazard mapping was carried out. The social vulnerability to flooding of both basins was assessed using the method for the improvement of vulnerability assessment in Europe (MOVE) framework. Flood risk was determined as a product of flood hazard and flood vulnerability. The results showed that areas of 50.91 and 40.56 km2 were vulnerable to a 100-year flood. The flood risk map for the two basins showed that 10.50 km2 and 14.23 km2 of land in Challawa and Jakara basins, respectively, was affected by the risk of a 100-year flood, out of which 11.48 km2 covers built-up areas. As the city is densely populated, with a population density of well over 20,000 persons per square kilometer in the highly built-up locations, this means that much more than 230,000 persons will be affected by the flood risk in the two basins. Urban rainstorms and flood disasters are the most common and severe environmental problems worldwide. Many factors influence rain-flood control simulation, forming a complex network system of interconnected and mutually constraining elements. In terms of spatial scale selection, existing research on rain-flood disaster risk largely relies on a single-scale infrastructure index system and has not yet focused on urban "gray-green-blue" spatial scale simulations for rain-flood storage. Regarding research methodology, applying system dynamics methods to the simulation of rain-flood storage and disaster prevention planning in watershed cities is still in its initial stages. System dynamics models can simulate the feedback interactions among various sub-elements in the coupled mega-system, fully addressing complex issues within the system structure that involve multiple variables, non-linear relationships, and numerous feedback loops, thereby compensating for the inadequacies of traditional linear models in the collaborative management of rain-flood risks. Taking the Changsha Guitang River Basin as an example, this paper constructs a system dynamics model covering four dimensions: natural environment, socio-economics, internal structure, and policy development. It aims to derive the optimal planning scheme for gray-green-blue spatial coordination in rain-flood storage by weighing four different development scenarios. The simulation results show: (1) Simply changing the surface substrates without considering rainwater discharge and the plan that emphasizes the construction of municipal drainage facilities will see the capacity gap for rain-flood storage-space construction continue to widen by 2035. This indicates that the plans mentioned above will struggle to bear the socio-economic losses cities face during rain-flood disasters. (2) The plan of combining gray and green infrastructures sees the rain-flood storage construction capacity turn from negative to positive from 2024, rising to 52.259 billion yuan by 2035. This reflects that the plan can significantly reduce the rainwater volume in the later stages of low-impact development infrastructure construction, mitigate rain-flood disaster risks, and reduce government investment in rain-flood disaster risk management, making it a relatively excellent long-term rain-flood storage space planning option. (3) The rain-flood regulation space planning scheme, under the combined effect of the urban "gray-green-blue" network system, sees the capacity for rain-flood storage construction turn positive a year earlier than the previous plan, reaching 54.232 billion yuan by 2035. This indicates that the scheme can not only effectively respond to extreme flood and rainstorm disasters but also maintain ecological environment benefits and mitigate the socio-economic losses caused by disasters, making it the optimal choice for future government disaster management planning. The research results provide a theoretical framework and practical insights for territorial spatial planning, rain-flood control management, and resilient city construction in watershed areas.
