The article states that the Turkish political party the Justice and Development Party (AKP) fell short of maintaining its majority in the Turkish parliament in the June 7, 2015, election. According to the article, the result was detrimental to Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan's attempts to consolidate power, particularly his desire to shift Turkey from a parliamentary system to a presidential system of government, and would result in a coalition government. The article discusses electoral support for the pro-Kurdish political party the People's Democratic Party (HDP).
