Examines the structure and content of Victorian literature courses at undergraduate level in British universities and polytechnics. Anthologies, texts, and selections with which most students are likely to come into contact; Various approaches to the field in relation to what is taught and how; Major novelists, poets, and prose writers whose works are included in a basic course in Victorian literature.

A bibliography of books, articles, and book reviews in Victorian studies which mainly appeared in 1995, the exceptions being works that were mistakenly omitted from earlier bibliographies. Citations are grouped under six headings: bibliographies and indexes; general histories; society and its institutions; the arts; literature; and individual authors.

A bibliography of noteworthy publications covering the Victorian period published mainly in 1988; some earlier publications are also included. Entries are listed alphabetically by author under six general headings: 1) bibliography and studies of printing publishing; 2) collections of documents, general histories, and historiography; 3) economics, education, politics, religion, science, and social environment; 4) fine arts, household arts, performing arts, and city planning; 5) literary history, literary forms, literary ideas; and 6) individual authors. Cross-referencing is provided.
