In this article we analyse experiences of bullying and cyberbullying to know the characteristics that surround them and their prevalence. The participants were 220 students from the sixth year of primary education to first year of high school education schooled in the province of Granada, selected through an incidental or non-probabilistic sampling. For the design of the research, a non-experimental quantitative methodological approach, supported under the survey technique, was chosen using an adapted version of the Ciberbull questionnaire by Giménez et al. (2015). The results showed a high propensity in both manifestations of bullying (23.6% aggressors and 14.1% victims), detecting that these situations tended to decrease as the students' age increases. In addition, differences were found, on the one hand, in the gender of the perpetrators of bullying (M boy = 1.2; SD = 0.4 versus Mgirl = 1.09; SD = 0,29) and, on the other hand, in the prevalence of victimization (β = 0.0542, p < 0.05), showing that being harassed may be a predictive value of being a cyberbullying victim. Acculturation stress has been strongly associated with the emergence of problems in people's health, mainly mental health. Despite its importance as a risk factor, its study has been carried out mainly in the adult population, with less research being carried out on the subject in the child and adolescent population. This research evaluates the psychometric properties of FEAC-IA, a questionnaire designed to evaluate the sources of stress due to acculturation. Data were collected from 401 schoolchildren between 8 and 18 years (M=12,4; SD=2,5). Reliability analysis and fit goodness indicators were performed for the evaluation of factorial structure models through exploratory structural equation analysis (MEEE) and confirmatory factor analysis (AFC). The questionnaire presents good indicators of goodness of fit for a three-factor model: longing and differences with the country of origin, adaptation in school, family and relationship with peers and experiences of discrimination (CFI=0.98; TLI= 0.976; RMSEA=0.052). The proposed scale can be an important contribution to collect inputs in the migrant children and youth population on the sources of stress, which allow the development of specific intervention plans. This study aimed to longitudinally characterize subjective well-being (SWB; life satisfaction, positive and negative affect) profiles of street-involved youth, verifying how the different groups differ in sociodemographic variables (e.g., age, gender, contact intensity with family and street), stressful events (number and impact) and health-risk behaviors (i.e., suicidality, sexual risk, drug use). Participants were 104 young people (M = 14.22 years, SD = 2.4), from three Brazilian capitals, most (82%) were boys. Cluster analysis identified three groups: average SWB (n = 56); positive SWB (n = 21); and negative SWB (n = 27). The positive SWB group is made up of younger youth with lower levels of health-risk behaviors and stronger family ties. Results corroborated prior studies identifying SWB as an important health indicator, emphasizing the importance of promoting SWB to reduce the risks that undermine development. This study aims to construct and validate a scale for the assessment of suicide risk in adolescents. Initial items were prepared based on bibliographical review and were subject to expert evaluation with the objective of analyzing theoretical and linguistic aspects. 537 adolescents between 13 and 18 years old with a mean of 15.2 (SD = 1.1), 268 being male (49.9%) and 269 (50.1%) being womenfemale were sampled. The internal consistency of the instrument was .934, the scales showed Cronbach's alphas between 0.71 and 0.929, it was applied from Mcdonald's Omega with the use of software R and the results were very similar. Exploratory factorial analysis was made VARIMAX method and confirmatory factorial analysis was determined with the use of the statistical program masters. The items analysis, correlation, and effects of floor and ceiling, and showed correlations between 0.411** and 0.784** with a global score. The items correlations fluctuated between 0.71 and 0.908****. In conclusion, the instrument shows to be a valid and reliable measure for suicide risk in an adolescent assessment tool. The objective of this study was to analyze possible differences in life satisfaction, depressive mood, self-concept and family communication among adolescents not involved in dating violence, bullies, victims, occasionally involved in a role of aggressor-victim and frequently involved in a role of aggressor-victim were analyzed. 672 Spanish adolescents (325 girls, 347 boys) between 12 and 19 years (M = 14.45, SD = 1.62) participated in this study. The results show a more negative psychosocial profile in girls victims of dating violence and boys frequently involved in the role of aggressor-victim. More difficulties in family communication were also observed in girls with high involvement in dating violence. These results show the existence of different psychosocial profiles in adolescents, boys and girls, involved in different roles in dating violence and the usefulness of considering these specific profiles in the development of intervention programs. The aim of this study was to evaluate a structural equation model, the relation of negative aspects in the neighborhood, school, high-risk peers, self-regulation problems and life events with adolescent depression, as well as the protective role of social support. The subjects were 113 consenting adolescents from a vulnerable sector in a city northwest of Mexico. To measure the study's variables participants responded to a set of Likert scales which had been validated in the region. Results from the structural equation model indicate that negative aspects in the environment, friends and life events constitute risk factors for depression, which are moderately mitigated by social support. The aim of this study was to analyze the students' participation in violent behavior in a sample of 1498 adolescents attending 5th and 6th grades (elementary school) and the three levels of middle school in public schools of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México, using a structural model. We utilized self-report questionnaires with Likert-type answers, measuring school violence, family function and attitude toward institutional authority. Results revealed that violent behavior in school were negatively related with a good family function (high scores of family union and support). Good family function related indirectly and negatively with violent behavior through attitude towards institutional authority and rules transgression. Finally, we discuss the findings. This work aims to identify gender differences in sexual behaviors and feelings between adolescents living in Spain and Colombia. A total of 508 participants from secondary schools, 270 from Spain and 238 from Colombia, took part in this study. The age of the participants ranged from 15 and 18 years. Positive emotions are those emotional experiences predominating pleasure or well-being, with a positive personal interpretation of the event, bringing a cascade of subjective physiological, psychological, behavioral changes and even social level. They expand our repertoire of thoughts and actions, and strengthen the construction of personal resources in a lasting way. Positive Emotions Questionnaire (CEP) for adolescents measuring the emotions of joy and humor sense, optimism, peace, gratitude, interest-excitement and satisfaction with life. The purpose the study was, in Study 1, to assess the factorial validity of the Positive Emotions Questionnaire by Schmidt (2008) and get a brief version; the purpose of Studio 2 is to test the factor structure of the brief version by confirmatory factor analysis and evaluate the criterion validity with prosocial behavior. A good factorial validity for the original model of 65 items with 6 dimensions was obtained. The model of 65 items was reduced into a brief version of 31 items, obtaining a good fit model (χ² / gl = 1.87 CFI = 0.92 GFI = 0.91). Regarding the criterion validity of brief version we found that the prosocial behavior was associate with joy and humor (0.34), gratitude (0.32) and interest enthusiasm (0.39) dimensions of Positive Emotions Questionnaire. This research aims to determine the relationship between social skills and quality of life (QoL) in native and immigrant adolescents of Spain and Portugal, in order to understand the importance of these variables in the adolescents' development and adjustment. In order to accomplish this, 1151 adolescents, aged between 12 and 18 years, were assessed through two questionnaires: the KIDSCREEN-52 and the Social Skills Rating System (SSRS). The results indicate that immigrants have a lower QoL index than natives in the dimensions of feelings, relationship with parents, economic resources and social acceptance. We examined the relationship between ethnic identity and social behaviors in 60 indigenous juvenile offenders self-identified as mapuche. Ethnic identity is obtained with IEM scale, social behaviors with CACSA, self-reported and sentenced offenses with EDA and FER-R. The objective was to evaluate the association between the degree of ethnic identity development with presence of antisocial and prosocial behavior. The results indicate that ethnic identity development was related to lesser presence of antisocial behaviors, though no relationship between ethnic identity and prosocial behaviors. The possible relevance of ethnic identity as a protective factor in mapuche youth offenders in specific and in general to adolescents of other indigenous people, becoming a possible focus of intervention to dismiss these behaviors is discussed. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of religiosity and religious affiliation on sexual risk among young people living in poor social conditions in Brazil. In addition, we investigate if religiosity plays a protective role in young people's sexual life, with specific regard to delay of first intercourse, condom use, and contraception. This is a cross-sectional study with 7572 participants, 14-24 years old, from seven states of Brazil, who answered a self-administered questionnaire with 109 questions in the school environment. We found an association between religiosity and lower odds of sexual debut. The group that have had already initiated sexual intercourse was not different on the sexual risk behavior. Young people of low socioeconomic status in Brazil have the sexual behavior slightly influenced by religious norms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between sociometric types, behavioral categories and academic goals in a sample of 1349 students (51.7% boys) of compulsory secondary education. The students' sociometric identification was performed by the Programa Socio and academic goals was measured by the AGTQ (Achievement Goals Tendencies Questionnaire). The AGTQ is a self-report measure designed to measure three tendencies of goals: Learning goals, Achievement goals and Reinforcement Social goals. Results show that students nominated by their peers positively had higher scores on Learning and Achievement goals than students negatively nominated. Furthermore, sociometric types were significant predictors of academic goals, as students nominated by their peers positively were more likely to achieve high Learning goals and Achievement goals that students negatively nominated. This study aimed to verify the contribution of the variables regarding the relations in familiar, friendship and school contexts in predicting the perceptions of well-being, health and body image of adolescents. Participants are 3.396 adolescents from the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The instruments used were the Health Behavior in Schoolchildren, the Positive and Negative Affects Scale, the General Health Questionnaire and the Brief Multidimensional Student Life Satisfaction Scale. Using structural equation modeling, the results present an adequate model to explain the well-being, the health and the body image. While self-report of overall quality of life has been widely examined, there are no studies that explore the impact of the relative importance people give to the various categories of their quality of life. Therefore, with a quantitative methodology and a co-relational transverse design, we analyze differences in the assessment when the importance given to each category is evaluated. Participants were 530 students from the city of Antofagasta in the North of Chile, aged between 15 and 18 years. They were from subsidized, public secondary schools and private and state universities in the city who were assessed using the KIDSCREEN-27 questionnaire. Results: Differences were found in the assessment of categories when results were analyzed based on gender and age and when incorporating an assessment of importance. The few studies that have been conducted into the psychometric properties of the EATQ-R, even fewer for the longer version, highlight the fact that its structure differs from that of the original. The aim of this study is to translate and adapt the long version of the EATQ-R to Catalan, study its internal consistency and convergent and factorial validity, and compare differences in the EATQ-R by age and gender. The EATQ-R was administered to a sample of 1481 secondary school students ranging in age from 11 to 17 years. After eliminating 40 items from the 86 comprising the EATQR, an adjusted model was obtained with acceptable fit indices comprising 8 of the original 11 factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the subjective well-being, overall life satisfaction and perceived social support of Brazilian adolescents by analysing different models that explain the relationships among these three constructs. The sample is comprised of 1,588 adolescents (aged 12–16, 65.5% female), who answered the Personal Well-Being Index (PWI), a measure of Perceived Social Support of Family and Friends, and also an Overall Life Satisfaction single-item scale (OLS). MANOVA and ANOVA were used to assess the differences between groups, with respect to gender, it is observed that girls present lower means than boys for the OLS. Considering age, there was a significant decrease in the mean of the PWI with age. Boys present lower means of friends' social support. Structural Equation Modelling was used to test theoretical frameworks on data. After analysing different models, the best fit model is presented using the PWI as a mediating factor between social support and satisfaction with life. The perception of social support from family and friends results to be a significant dimension of well-being among Brazilian adolescents. The aim of the present study was to determine to what extent aggressive behavior toward peers predicts problems of personal and school adjustment in aggressive adolescents, boys and girls. A sample of 1510 Spanish adolescents of compulsory secondary school was used. The logistic regression analyses showed that, in relation to personal adjustment, aggressive behavior significantly predicted for both sexes high scores in depressive symptoms, perceived stress and loneliness, and low scores on self-esteem, life satisfaction and empathy. For the school variables, aggressive behavior was associated with low scores on academic involvement, affiliation with peers, perceived teacher support and positive attitude toward school. The objective of this research was to establish the incidence of casual victimization and compare the psychopathological symptoms present in occasional victims and non-victims. A descriptive correlational cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 773 from a private school subsidized primary and secondary education in the city of Calama, of both sexes, between 11 and 18 years. Chi-square analysis and t tests for independent samples were performed. The results showed that occasional peer victimization affects 30% of young people and is stable across different ages evaluated. It was found that occasional victims exhibit more depressive, anxious and behavioral symptoms, and also have a lower prosocial behavior compared to the group not victimized. The aim of this research is to analyze cognitive, emotional, and socio-family variables to determine which of these factors have the greatest predictive power to predict effective coping mechanisms among adolescents forced to resolve problems. The sample is made up of 532 students in the third stageof compulsory secondary education (mean = 14.45 years old; SD = 0.763). Using ANOVA, we show the existence of gender differences for the variables under study. Furthermore, regression analysis indicates that the support of others and the perception of stress as a challenge are the variables with the greatest power to predict a coping mechanism when resolving a problem. In contrast, general intelligence, empathy, and attachment to peers have no significant weighting in the prediction of coping mechanisms among adolescents faced with problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to validate the Gender Ideology Scale (EIG) in the Colombian context. The EIG was administered to 313 adolescents (mean age = 14.62 years old). Confirmatory factor analysis failed to verify the original 12-item one factor model. Tree items were deleted (< 0.3) and confirmatory factor analysis results supported a 9-item one-factor structure for the scale (RMSEA = 0.033, NFI = 0.914, CFI = 0.963). The reliability was = 0.763. The 2x2 dispositional perfectionism model in adolescence was assessed in physical education using several dependent variables: self-concept, affectivity and life satisfaction. A total of 331 secondary education students (58.9% males and 41.1% females; M = 14.29, SD = 1.43) agreed to participate. Moderate hierarchical regression analyses showed that the Self-Imposed group was linked to more adaptive results compared to the Non-Perfectionism one. The External Pressure group was linked to more negative results compared to the other types of perfectionism. Finally, the Mixed Perfectionism group was linked to a better psychological adjustment that the External Pressure group and a weaker adaptation than the Self- Imposed group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Several lines of evidence demonstrate that high fat diet exposure can be detrimental to cognition across the lifespan. We have previously shown that context-stimulus learning is sensitive to high fat diet effects during adolescence but not adulthood. In the present study we determined if pre and periadolescent high fat diet exposure interferes with response-inhibition capacity, rule- learning, and memory during adulthood. Rats were fed a high fat or low fat diet during pre and periadolescence and completed behavioral testing as adults to assess response-inhibition capacity and reinforcer efficacy rule-learning and short-term memory. Results indicate pre and periadolescent high fat diet may have long-term effects on reinforcer efficacy and sustained attention. However, results indicate that either the pre and periadolescence period is too short for a high fat diet to induce long-term deficits in response-inhibition, rule-learning, or memory, or that maturation in the absence of a high fat diet rescued these deficits. The aim of this study was to analyze reliability and validity evidence of scores on the Colombian version of the Questionnaire about Interpersonal Difficulties for Adolescents (QIDA) in a sample of 1,628 adolescents (65.7% boys), ranging in age from 12 to 18 years. Confirmatory factor analyses replicated the correlated five-factor structure of the QIDA: Assertiveness, Heterosexual Relationships, Public Speaking, Family Relationships, and Close Friendships. Internal consistency for the QIDA and subscales scores was excellent. Girls reported higher level of perceived anxiety in heterosexual relationships, whereas boys showed more anxiety in close friendships and decreased interpersonal anxiety during adolescence. The aim of this study is to carry out an adaptation and validation of Adolescents' Expected Parental Reactions Scale in Spanish sample. This original scale was developed by Wyatt and Carlo (2002). The sample was composed by 632 adolescents, between 15 and 18 years, middle-class and both sexes. A confirmatory factor analysis was carried out to study construct validity and with Cronbach's alpha was studied internal consistence. The results showed that scale has good fit indexes to theoretical model proposed by original authors. On the other hand, a multigroup analysis was carried out to study the invariance of model through both sexes. The model was invariant, this supports the bifactiral structure of the scale that assessments adolescents' expected parental reactions on prosocial and antisocial behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of adolescent relationship violence arouses vast interest but unfortunately the tools available for this purpose are limited. This study aims to verify the structural validity of the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationship Inventory (CADRI). 571 Spaniards subjects (171 males and 400 females) aged 17 to 21 (M = 18.76; SD = 1.208) took part in the study. Results show a model for suffered violence and another structural one for committed violence, both revealing adequate fit indexes, significant saturations and high internal consistency indexes. A comparative study was done to analyze the differences between Spanish adolescent and Latin American immigrants at the same age in various components of body image and weight control behaviors related to development of eating disorders (ED). Likewise the study analysed what variables had a major predictive value of dieting among the adolescents. The sample group was formed by 403 females from 13 to 17 years old, 191 Spanish and 212 Latin American immigrants. Certain variables were collected such as sociodemographic, body image (nutritional state, self-perception, dissatisfaction and fear about gain weight), eating habits and weight control behaviors (diet, self-induce vomiting and taking laxatives). The results showed there were not differences between the Spanish and Latin American adolescent girls in the nutritional state, in how they perceived their body image, in their desired figure, nor in the level of body dissatisfaction. However, there were differences in their self-perception of physical attractiveness, in their fear of gaining weight, in their eating habits and dieting. A significant percentage of the Latin American adolescents perceived themselves as attractive, they were more fearful of gaining weight; they had worse eating habits and dieted more. In this article we examined some psychosocial factors and cognitive attitudes related to sexual practices under the influence of alcohol and drugs among adolescents in the city of Medellín in 2011. The type of study was non-experimental with a descriptive and correlational level. The sample consisted of 955 students in grades 9, 10 and 11 public and private colleges. Age, sex, type of family, persons responsible for raising, group influence and cognitive and affective attitudes; play an important role in the performance of risky sexual practices on the use of alcohol and drugs during adolescence. This article analyses the incidence of a group of relational and social context constructed variables that act as risk factors in processes of social maladjustment of adolescents in a neighborhood belonging to Temuco city, Chile. The techniques used to produce the data were participant observation, focalized interviews, document analysis, group discussion workshops and structural analysis of networks. In a progressive analysis of the data, using grounded theory, the neighborhood dynamics is characterized by five dimensions: community cohabitation, institutional action in the community, community norm, family approach to child and adolescent behavior; and community taking of the public space. We analyzed responses of 239 male adolescents convicted of various crimes and offenses, grouped into six trajectories defined psychological characteristics, risks and problem behavior . The self-reporting of crimes is obtained with the "EDA" scale, problematic abuse with the "DEP-ADO" grid, risks and resources with "IRNC" inventory and the "FERR" grid, from official crime the court records. The purpose was to characterize differentially criminal trajectories, retrospectively, analyzing the relationship between self-reported crime volume, substance abuse, accumulation of risk factors and resources and penalties. The results show different trends for trajectories with diverse potential recidivism and desistance, independent of the penalty executed. This study analyzed the relationship between aggressive behavior and academic goals in a sample of 2.022 Spanish students of Compulsory Secondary Education (CSE). Aggressive behavior was assessed with the Teenage Inventory of Social Skills (TISS), and academic goals were assessed with the Achievement Goal Tendencies Questionnaire (AGTQ). The results revealed that students with high aggressive behavior, in both sexes and for all academic grades of CSE, had significantly higher scores in social reinforcement goals than their peers with low aggressive behavior. Logistic regression analyses showed that high aggressive behavior was a positive and statistically significant predictor of high social reinforcement goals, in both sexes and for all academic grades of CSE. The assessment of psychoeducational skills is crucial in the design of specialized training to enhance the involvement of those working with offenders. Through a pre and post quasi-experimental design, we evaluated the impact of a process of training in psycho-educational skills of professionals and technicians. Using the Psychoeducational Competency Test, found that these skills improve after a specialized training process, especially in the technical group and preferably in the planning capacity in both groups. This study assesses the relation between coping strategies and emotions to know to what extend these are processes related to aggressive behavior . We assume that the aggression influence coping mechanisms in solving problems and handling of emotions: emotional instability (lack of self-control in stressful situations) or empathy (feelings faced to "other" who has a problem or need). A sample of 1.557 boys and girls, with an age range of 12-15 years, enrolled in first-cycle of Compulsory Secondary Education in 36 Scholar Centers in the Valencian Community, randomly selected, was evaluated. The results indicate clear differences between high and low aggression and coping mechanisms that they use. More aggressive adolescents used to a greater extent an unproductive coping, while less aggressive adolescents apply strategies more focused on solving the problem. In all structural equation models, the direct effect of emotional instability and empathy on aggression is significant, always positive in first case but negative in the second one. Besides, empathy promotes coping centered on the resolution of the problem whereas emotional instability is positively related to unproductive coping and this one with aggression. It is assessed the properties of an instrument to detect risk factors for the attempt of committing suicide in 500 students attending high school (mean age 16.5 years). Proposed four-factor solution (suicidal behavior, satisfaction, sense of life, and negative affection) accounts for a 58 % of the variance. Internal consistency for the factors and for the total scale is good (Cronbach's Alpha is 0.95 for the total scale). Regression analyses suggest that the best predictive variable for the "attempt-of-committing-suicide" behavior corresponds to suicidal behaviors (suicidal ideation and planning). The scale shows suitable psychometric properties to assess the risk for the attempt of committing suicide, differentiating between those who have made attempts of committing suicide and those who do not. The present article focused on the perception of sexual exploitation as a job, using a single case study design. The aim of the study was to investigate the case of a 14 year-old girl, involved in commercial sexual exploitation, who considered this situation as her labor activity. A content analysis showed protective and risk factors as categories, especially related to her labor activities. The girl perceived the sexual exploitation activity as a job that provided autonomy, subsistence, and survival. The study revealed that the negative effects of working during adolescence may bring consequences to health and development. In the Mediterranean culture the young consumption of alcohol represents a practice associated with a recreative culture tied to processes of group interaction and identity. Our aim is to offer a descriptive and differential analysis for levels of age and ingestion realized of the trends of consumption of alcohol, as well as the perceptions of risk and motivations of consumption in a group of 845 Spanish teenagers of the Principado de Asturias. The emergent trends are confirmed on habits of consumption of alcohol and the representative bosses of use/abuse of the style of juvenile leisure, as well as motivations and differential perceptions of risk by virtue of the mentality of the user. Adolescence is a stage of life characterized by a marked and difficult physical, psychological and social development in which the young must face different daily problems and vital stressors. Knowing and classifying the conflicts that most worry the teenager might be used to direct the educative projects or therapeutic intervention more efficients. In this paper, problems perceived as more stressing have been codified and quantified through Adolescent’s Problems Differential Analysis and Coding System using a sample of minors leaving in a residential child care. A comparison between housed teenagers and those who live with their parents show that housed minors (between 11 and 17 years old) rise different vital situations in every single category. This study was aimed at testing a proposal relating contextual and emotional factors to prosocial and problematic behaviors in adolescence. This proposal is based on ecological contextual models dealing with the influence of multiple factors on the explanation of psychological phenomena. The study was done on a sample of 239 nuclear families with at least one son aged between 12 and 18 years old. The results showed that the main predictor of prosocial behavior is the emotional factor, whereas for the psychological disadjustment behavior it is a proximal factor. It was also found that sympathy mediates both the relation between inductive discipline and the prosocial behavior, and the relation between acceptance and this adjustment behavior in adolescence. The main purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between attachment, self-concept and some characteristics of romantic relationships in adolescents. The sample consisted of 1.435 adolescents from feminine, masculine and mixed schools in Bogotá; these schools served students from low, middle and high socioeconomic status. Participants filled out a set of questionnaires which included sociodemographic information and scales that measure attachment relationships with parents and peers, dimensions of romantic relationships and self-concept. Results indicated adolescents perceived high levels of security in the relationships with their mothers, fathers and peers. Additionally, it was found that the relationships with these three attachment figures predicted the level of self-concept and the positive characteristics of adolescents' romantic relationships are mainly explained by the attachment relationship with the mother and the peers. Finally, it was found that the level of self-concept predicted the positive characteristics of the romantic relationships in this sample of adolescents from Bogotá. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
