The article reports that over-prescription of antibiotics can lead to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in infants. It states that since infections could be viral and not bacterial doctors should observe symptoms for 24-48 hours and then prescribe drugs. It mentions that the World Health Organization (WHO) is urging doctors to prescribe antibiotics only when required as they kill beneficial microbes also.
