Abstract

The article discusses a story published in the "Wall Street Journal" about a November 4, 2013 proposal to increase the minimum monthly wage of garment workers in Bangladesh following labor protests over factory safety conditions and lack of a livable wage. Although local factory owners oppose the increase, garment industry exporter official Rubana Huq notes that an 80 percent wage hike would only increase clothing prices by an average of 25 cents.
