The article focuses on the experiences of Captain Richard K. Cole as psychiatrist for the U.S. 5th Cavalry Regiment in Korea. He diagnosed one of his patients, a squad leader, as a true case of combat exhaustion and suggested for him to have another job with the military. Another patient, a sergeant and squad leader, came to Cole after being traumatized from one his soldiers dying. It explains that psychiatrists during that time in Korea were tasked to prevent permanent mental damage to soldiers.
