The article analyzes the relationship between annual precipitation and droughts, highlighting the importance of estimating the impact of decreased precipitation on drought frequency. A statistical model for annual precipitation is presented, and two models for modeling the variation of precipitation distribution over time are discussed. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is used to define drought, and the trend in drought probability is estimated. An inversely proportional relationship is found between drought trends and the coefficient of variation of the series, meaning that in drier climates, drought trends will be more pronounced than in wetter climates.
