This article discusses a controlled clinical trial that aimed to investigate the cardiopulmonary effects of post-COVID-19 on children and adolescents. The study recruited 20 children with post-COVID-19 symptoms and 28 children who had recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection without symptoms. All participants underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing on a treadmill. The results showed that the post-COVID-19 group had a significantly lower maximal treadmill test compared to the group without symptoms, but this difference was limited to females. No other parameters related to cardiac or pulmonary functions showed significant differences. The study suggests that deconditioning may be the main cause of symptoms in children with post-COVID-19.
