The author critiques a study on the importance of explicitness of therapists to lesbian patients who are undergoing counseling. Researcher Cordelia Galgut claimed that lesbians find sexual explicitness from their therapists as well as disclosure of their therapists' sexuality more helpful for their therapeutic relationships. The implication of absenting her own voice as a client in this way was that Galgut did not really give a flavour of how she entered into dialogue with her research participants, comparing and sharing her own experiences of therapy with theirs, and building up a shared sense of an ongoing relationship with the research question, and that elusive creature, the ideal therapist.

An interview with Jeremy Clarke, a national adviser for Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) and founding Chair of the New Savoy Partnership, is presented. According to Clarke, he decided to become a psychotherapist when he saw one of his student was suffering from a personal tragedy. He mentioned that his earliest memory was eating something mashed with warm milk. He asserted that his lowest point in life was when his partner died suddenly before his 30th birthday.
