In this article I aim to discuss the resources and methods by which Tradition can adapt to the needs of contemporary society, without losing any of its power and content. What is the difference between "Tradition" and "Traditionalism" and to what extent does the latter distort the actualization of the Gospel message? Does the diversity of local or regional "traditions" affect the unity and character of the Tradition? Can we talk about adaptability or renewal of Tradition? The rapid growth of "emerging" churches worldwide provides a new opportunity for reflection on the nature and task of the church. This article briefly outlines some of the tensions this movement raises in relation to the traditional "marks" of the church (one, holy, catholic, and apostolic).
