Datamonitor estimates that more than half of the PCs sold into European homes in 1995 will meet the MPC-1 standard announced in Oct. 1991, but two further standards, MPC-2 and MPC-3 have since been introduced. The MPC-3 specification includes a 75MHz Pentium with 8Mbytes of memory and a quad-speed CD-ROM drive, compared with the initial MPC-1 specification's Intel 286 chip with 2Mbytes of memory and a CD-ROM drive. PCs meeting the Multimedia Personal Computer (MPC) standard did not always play discs very well, a problem dealt with by the addition of minimal performance data in MPC-3.
