A Gallup survey performed Dec 4-10, 2000, found that 54% of Canadians believe their present standard of living is better than that enjoyed by their parents, compared to 20% who believe their standard of living is lower than that of their parents. Response differences varied significantly by age, with 78% of those aged 65 and older indicating their standard of living was better than their parents', compared to 21% of those between 18-29 years of age who believe so.

A Gallup survey performed Dec 2-8, 1998, showed that a majority of Canadians feel their standard of living is better than that enjoyed by their parents. Of those polled, 55% believe they have a higher standard, up from 53% last year. Age is a significant factor, with 80% of older Canadians responding positively compared to 21% of younger Canadians.
