Paper industry -- Evaluation ,Banking, finance and accounting industries ,Business ,Business, international - Abstract
The global paper industry is suffering due to a fall in prices. This has been caused by overcapacity, which is a result of over-investment during the 80's. The fluctuations in the currency markets have also damaged certain companies in the industry, particularly the depreciation of the US dollar and the devaluation of the Swedish krona. Many are trying to reduce costs which included reductions in environmental capital spending. This may not be sufficient to enable them to compete with low cost Asian producers, however.
