We present 0.9 mm continuum and CO (3-2) line emission observations retrieved from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) archive toward the high-mass star formation region IRAS 16076-5134. We identify fourteen dense cores with masses between 0.3 to 22 M$_{\odot}$. We find an ensemble of filament-like CO (3-2) ejections from -62 to +83 km s$^{-1}$ that appear to arise radially from a common central position, close to the dense core MM8. The ensemble of filaments, has a quasi-isotropic distribution in the plane of the sky. The radial velocity of several filaments follow a linear velocity gradient, incresing from a common origin. Considering the whole ensemble of filaments, we estimate its total mass to be 138 and 216 M$_{\odot}$ from its CO emission, for 70 K and 140 K respectively. Also, assuming a constant velocity expansion of the filaments (of 83 km s$^{-1}$) we estimate the dynamical age of the outflowing material (3500 years), its momentum (~10$^{4}$ M$_{\odot}$ km s$^{-1}$) and its kinetic energy (~10$^{48-49}$ erg). The morphology and kinematics presented by the filaments suggest the presence of a dispersal outflow with explosive characteristics in IRAS 16076-5134. In addition, we make a raw estimate of the lower limit of the frequency rate of the explosive dispersal outflows in the Galaxy (one every 110 years) considering constant star formation rate and efficiency with respect to the galactocentric radius of the Galaxy. This may imply a comparable rate of dispersal outflows and supernovae (approximately one every 50 years), which may be important for the energy budget of the Interstellar Medium and the link between dispersal outflows and high-mass star formation., 13 pages, 8 figures. Magnetic fields are expected to play an important role in accretion processes for circumstellar disks. Measuring the magnetic field morphology is difficult, especially since polarimetric (sub)millimeter continuum observations may not trace fields in most disks. The Goldreich-Kylafis (GK) effect suggests that line polarization is perpendicular or parallel to the magnetic field direction. We attempt to observe CO(2-1), $^{13}$CO(2-1), and C$^{18}$O(2-1) line polarization toward HD 142527 and IM Lup, which are large, bright protoplanetary disks. We use spatial averaging and spectral integration to search for signals in both disks, and detect a potential CO(2-1) Stokes $Q$ signal toward both disks. The total CO(2-1) polarization fractions are 1.57 $\pm$ 0.18% and 1.01 $\pm$ 0.10% for HD 142527 and IM Lup, respectively. Our Monte Carlo simulations indicate that these signals are marginal. We also stack Stokes parameters based on the Keplerian rotation, but no signal was found. Across the disk traced by dust of HD 142527, the 3$\sigma$ upper limits for $P_{\text{frac}}$ at 0.5$^{\prime\prime}$ ($\sim$80 au) resolution are typically less than 3% for CO(2-1) and $^{13}$CO(2-1) and 4% for C$^{18}$O(2-1). For IM Lup, the 3$\sigma$ upper limits for these three lines are typically less than 3%, 4%, and 12%, respectively. Upper limits based on our stacking technique are up to a factor of $\sim$10 lower, though stacking areas can potentially average out small-scale polarization structure. We also compare our continuum polarization at 1.3 mm to observations at 870 $\mu$m from previous studies. The polarization in the northern dust trap of HD 142527 shows a significant change in morphology and an increase in $P_{\text{frac}}$ as compared to 870 $\mu$m. For IM Lup, the 1.3 mm polarization may be more azimuthal and has a higher $P_{\text{frac}}$ than at 870 $\mu$m., Comment: Accepted to ApJ

Here we present deep (16 μJy beam), very high (40 mas) angular resolution 1.14 mm, polarimetric, Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations toward the massive protostar driving the HH 80-81 radio jet. The observations clearly resolve the disk oriented perpendicularly to the radio jet, with a radius of ≃0.″171 (∼291 au at 1.7 kpc distance). The continuum brightness temperature, the intensity profile, and the polarization properties clearly indicate that the disk is optically thick for a radius of R ≲ 170 au. The linear polarization of the dust emission is detected almost all along the disk, and its properties suggest that dust polarization is produced mainly by self-scattering. However, the polarization pattern presents a clear differentiation between the inner (optically thick) part of the disk and the outer (optically thin) region of the disk, with a sharp transition that occurs at a radius of ∼0.″1 (∼170 au). The polarization characteristics of the inner disk suggest that dust settling has not occurred yet with a maximum dust grain size between 50 and 500 μm. The outer part of the disk has a clear azimuthal pattern but with a significantly higher polarization fraction compared to the inner disk. This pattern is broadly consistent with the self-scattering of a radiation field that is beamed radially outward, as expected in the optically thin outer region, although contribution from non-spherical grains aligned with respect to the radiative flux cannot be excluded.© 2018. The mechanism for producing polarized emission from protostellar disks at (sub)millimeter wavelengths is currently uncertain. Classically, polarization is expected from non-spherical grains aligned with the magnetic field. Recently, two alternatives have been suggested. One polarization mechanism is caused by self-scattering from dust grains of sizes comparable to the wavelength while the other mechanism is due to grains aligned with their short axes along the direction of radiation anisotropy. The latter has recently been shown as a likely mechanism for causing the dust polarization detected in HL Tau at 3.1 mm. In this paper, we present ALMA polarization observations of HL Tau for two more wavelengths: 870 $\mu$m and 1.3 mm. The morphology at 870 $\mu$m matches the expectation for self-scattering, while that at 1.3 mm shows a mix between self-scattering and grains aligned with the radiation anisotropy. The observations cast doubt on the ability of (sub)millimeter continuum polarization to probe disk magnetic fields for at least HL Tau. By showing two distinct polarization morphologies at 870 $\mu$m and 3.1 mm and a transition between the two at 1.3 mm, this paper provides definitive evidence that the dominant (sub)millimeter polarization mechanism transitions with wavelength. In addition, if the polarization at 870 $\mu$m is due to scattering, the lack of polarization asymmetry along the minor axis of the inclined disk implies that the large grains responsible for the scattering have already settled into a geometrically thin layer, and the presence of asymmetry along the major axis indicates that the HL Tau disk is not completely axisymmetric., Comment: Accepted to ApJ, typos corrected from proof

A massive envelope and a strong bipolar outflow are the two main structures characterizing the youngest protostellar systems. In order to understand the physical properties of a bipolar outflow and the relationship with those of the envelope, we obtained a mosaic map covering the whole bipolar outflow of the youngest protostellar system L1157 with about $5"$ angular resolution in CO J=2-1 using the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy. By utilizing these observations of the whole bipolar outflow, we estimate its physical properties and show that they are consistent with multiple jets. We also constrain a preferred precession direction. In addition, we observed the central envelope structure with $2"$ resolution in the $\lambda=1.3$ and 3 mm continua and various molecular lines: C$^{17}$O, C$^{18}$O, $^{13}$CO, CS, CN, N$_2$H$^+$, CH$_3$OH, H$_2$O, SO, and SO$_2$. All the CO isotopes and CS, CN, and N$_2$H$^+$ have been detected and imaged. We marginally detected the features that can be interpreted as a rotating inner envelope in C$^{17}$O and C$^{18}$O and as an infalling outer envelope in N$_2$H$^+$. We also estimated the envelope and central protostellar masses and found that the dust opacity spectral index changes with radius.

We present subarcsecond (~0.35") resolved observations of the 1.3 mm dust polarization from the edge-on circumstellar disk around the Class 0 protostar L1527. The inferred magnetic field is consistent with a dominantly toroidal morphology; there is no significantly detected vertical poloidal component to which observations of an edge-on disk are most sensitive. This suggests that angular momentum transport in Class 0 protostars (when large amounts of material are fed down to the disk from the envelope and accreted onto the protostar) is driven mainly by magnetorotational instability rather than magnetocentrifugal winds at 50 AU scales. In addition, with the data to date there is an early, tentative trend that R>30 AU disks have so far been found in Class 0 systems with average magnetic fields on the 1000 AU scale strongly misaligned with the rotation axis. The absence of such a disk in the aligned case could be due to efficient magnetic braking that disrupts disk formation. We present observations of N2H+(1-0), HCO+(1-0), and HCN(1-0) toward the Serpens Main molecular cloud from the CARMA Large Area Star Formation Survey (CLASSy). We mapped 150 square arcminutes of Serpens Main with an angular resolution of 7 arcsecs. The gas emission is concentrated in two subclusters (the NW and SE subclusters). The SE subcluster has more prominent filamentary structures and more complicated kinematics compared to the NW subcluster. The majority of gas in the two subclusters has subsonic to sonic velocity dispersions. We applied a dendrogram technique with N2H+(1-0) to study the gas structures; the SE subcluster has a higher degree of hierarchy than the NW subcluster. Combining the dendrogram and line fitting analyses reveals two distinct relations: a flat relation between nonthermal velocity dispersion and size, and a positive correlation between variation in velocity centroids and size. The two relations imply a characteristic depth of 0.15 pc for the cloud. Furthermore, we have identified six filaments in the SE subcluster. These filaments have lengths of 0.2 pc and widths of 0.03 pc, which is smaller than a characteristic width of 0.1 pc suggested by Herschel observations. The filaments can be classified into two types based on their properties. The first type, located in the northeast of the SE subcluster, has larger velocity gradients, smaller masses, and nearly critical mass-per-unit-length ratios. The other type, located in the southwest of the SE subcluster, has the opposite properties. Several YSOs are formed along two filaments which have supercritical mass per unit length ratios, while filaments with nearly critical mass-per-unit-length ratios are not associated with YSOs, suggesting that stars are formed on gravitationally unstable filaments., Comment: Accepted to ApJ. 38 pages, 16 figures, 5 tables

The explosive molecular outflow detected decades ago in the Orion BN/KL region of massive star formation was considered to be a bizarre event. This belief was strengthened by the non detection of similar cases over the years with the only exception of the marginal case of DR21. Here, we confim a similar explosive outflow associated with the UCH$_{\rm II}$ region G5.89$-$0.39 that indicates that this phenomenon is not unique to Orion or DR21. Sensitive and high angular resolution ($\sim$ 0.1$''$) ALMA CO(2$-$1) and SiO(5$-$4) observations show that the molecular outflow in the massive star forming region G5.89$-$0.39 is indeed an explosive outflow with an age of about 1000 yrs and a liberated kinetic energy of 10$^{46-49}$ erg. Our new CO(2$-$1) ALMA observations revealed over 30 molecular filaments, with Hubble-like expansion motions, pointing to the center of UCH$_{\rm II}$ region. In addition, the SiO(5$-$4) observations reveal warmer and strong shocks very close to the origin of the explosion, confirming the true nature of the flow. A simple estimation for the occurrence of these explosive events during the formation of the massive stars indicates an event rate of once every $\sim$100 yrs, which is close to the supernovae rate., Accepted by ApJ Letters.
