A method for the bromination of alkoxy-substituted benzenes and naphthalenes was developed by using the residual oxygen in the reaction tube as the oxidant, and [Bmim]NO 3 (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate) ionic liquid as both the catalyst and the solvent. No other reagent apart from the ionic liquid and molecular bromine was used in the reactions, and basically all the bromine atoms in the bromine source were transferred to the bromination products, showing that the presented protocol is highly atom economic and practical. Abstract: An efficient, practical and environmentally benign synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazoles was developed through RuCl3-catalyzed oxidative condensation of 2-aminothiophenol with aldehyde in ionic liquid by using air as the oxidant. With this procedure, a series of 2-substituted benzothiazoles and benzothiazole/pyrimidine nucleoside hybrids with antimicrobial activities were efficiently prepared from easily accessible starting materials. Abstract: An efficient and environmentally benign synthesis of 1,2-allenic ketones via RuCl3-catalyzed oxidation of homopropargyl alcohols in ionic liquid with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as the oxidant was reported for the first time. Abstract: Copper-based catalysts were firstly introduced into the cyanation of benzyl chlorides with non-toxic K4[Fe(CN)6]. The presented method avoids the use of extremely poisonous alkali cyanides and precious palladium catalysts. No other reagent apart from CuI, K4[Fe(CN)6] and toluene was used in the cyanation, showing that the presented protocol is simple and practical. Abstract: Non-toxic K4[Fe(CN)6] was demonstrated to be effective as a green cyanating agent for the cyanation of alkyl halides using PPh3/Pd(OAc)2 as a catalyst system. The presented method allowed a series of benzyl chlorides to be smoothly cyanated in up to 88% yield. Abstract: Although iron is low-cost and environmentally friendly, there is no report about iron-catalyzed conversion of unactivated aryl halides to phenols. In this Letter, a new method for the present conversion was developed with iron compounds as the catalyst and water as the solvent. Abstract: Copper-catalyzed cyanation of aryl halides was improved to be more economical and environmentally friendly by using water as the solvent and ligand-free Cu(OAc)2·H2O as the catalyst under microwave heating.
