Scanning electron microscopy studies of three paratype specimens (two males and one female) of Ascarophis parupenei Moravec, Orecchia & Paggi, 1988, an intestinal parasite of the marine fish Parupeneus indicus (Shaw) in the Indian Ocean, made it possible to redescribe in detail the cephalic structures of this nematode as well as the morphology of the male caudal end. The presence of non-bilobed sublabia, phasmids in both males and females, bifurcated deirids, well-developed precloacal cuticular ridges (area rugosa) and a ventral median caudal protuberance in the male are reported in this species for the first time. The general morphology and measurements of A. parupenei somewhat resemble those of Rasheedia novaecaledoniensis Moravec & Justine, 2018 described from the same host species (P. indicus) from off New Caledonia, but both species clearly differ from each other by the shape and structure of pseudolabia and the anterior portion of the digestive tract, belonging thus to different nematode families (Cystidicolidae and Physalopteridae, respectively)., (© 2024. Taeniacanthus aulacocephali Izawa, 2021 (Copepoda: Cyclopoida: Taeniacanthidae) was redescribed from the branchial cavity and gill filaments of Uranoscopus japonicus Houttuyn (Perciformes: Uranoscopidae) collected from the Pacific coast of the Kochi and Wakayama prefectures, Japan. This is the second record of the copepod, and the finding from U. japonicus represents the new host record. The species is characterized by several distinguishing features: 1) a decrease in the width of the habitus between the second and fourth pedigerous segments; 2) the ratio of prosome/body length; 3) the presence of eight setae on the exopodal terminal segment of leg 2; 4) an un-bifurcated maxilliped claw surrounded by 14-28 transverse ridges; and 5) the presence of an inner coxal seta on legs 2 and 3. The newly collected specimens were subjected to a modified non-destructive DNA extraction method and morphological description based on the same copepod individual, while preserving a morphologically describable specimen. Recent examinations of some marine fishes from off the southern coast of Iraq revealed the presence of two new species of Dichelyne (Dichelyne) Jägerskiöld, 1902 (Nematoda: Cucullanidae), both intestinal parasites, namely: D. (D.) lethrini n. sp. from the smalltooth emperor Lethrinus microdon Valenciennes (Lethrinidae, Acanthuriformes) and D. (D.) iraqiensis n. sp. from the humphead snapper Lutjanus sanguineus (Cuvier) (Lutjanidae, Acanthuriformes). Specimens are described and illustrated based on light and scanning electron microscopical examinations. Dichelyne (D.) lethrini n. sp. is mainly characterised by the length of spicules (522 µm), presence of a dorsal caecum, location of deirids at the level of the posterior end of oesophagus and the post-oesophageal position of the excretory pore, number (10 pairs) and distribution of caudal papillae in the male, and the presence of two minute terminal spines on the female tail tip. Dichelyne (D.) iraqiensis n. sp. differs from the species of the subgenus Dichelyne mainly based on the absence of caudal spines, the presence of a dorsal caecum, the length of spicules (789-884 µm), the location of deirids and the excretory pore approximately at the same level, and the size of eggs (72-78 × 42-51 µm). Two species of Pseudodiscocotyla Yamaguti, 1965 (Monogenea: Discocotylidae) were collected from crimson jobfish Pristipomoides filamentosus (Valenciennes) (Perciformes: Lutjanidae) off Okinawa-jima island, southern Japan. Pseudodiscocotyla opakapaka is redescribed and represents the first Japanese record. A new species, Pseudodiscocotyla mikiae n. sp., differs from Ps. opakapaka in the absence of spines around the male genital pore, the shape of the vaginal pore, the presence of spines inside the vaginal pore, and the shape of the clamp. The locations of the male genital atrium and the vaginal pore in both species were similar, and the observed armament differences of the male copulatory organ are therefore presumed to establish reproductive isolation. The phylogenetic trees for the Mazocraeidea based on the partial 28S rDNA sequences were created using new sequences of Pseudodiscocotyla mikiae n. sp., and Discocotylidae formed a sister group with the species Diclidophoridae, Macrovalvitrematidae, and Plectanocotylidae. Examination of the gill lamellae of the Panama grunt Rhencus panamensis (Steindachner) (Haemulidae), golden snapper Lutjanus inermis (Peters), and yellow snapper Lutjanus argentiventris (Peters) (Lutjanidae) (Perciformes) from the coast of the Guerrero State (eastern Tropical Pacific) of Mexico revealed 5 species of Monogenoidea: Euryhaliotrema disparum n. sp. on R. panamensis; Haliotrematoides uagroi n. sp. on L. inermis; and E. anecorhizion Kritsky & Mendoza-Franco, 2012, E. fastigatum (Zhukov, 1976) Kritsky & Boeger, 2002, and E. paracanthi (Zhukov, 1976) Kritsky & Boeger, 2002 on L. argentiventris. Specimens found on R. panamensis were assigned within Euryhaliotrema as a new species possessing the atypical morphology of the male copulatory organ (i.e., a coiled tube with clockwise rings). Haliotrematoides uagroi n. sp. differs from Haliotrematoides striatohamus (Zhukov, 1981) Mendoza-Franco, Reyes-Lizama & Gonzalez-Solis, 2009 from Haemulon spp. (Haemulidae) from the Caribbean Sea (Mexico) in having inner blades on the distal shafts of the ventral and dorsal anchors. The present paper represents the first finding of a species of Euryhaliotrema (E. disparum n. sp.) on a species of Rhencus and the second species on a haemulid host, and H. uagroi n. sp. as the first monogenoidean species described on L. inermis. Specimens of two undescribed and one known gonad-infecting species of Philometra Costa, 1845 (Nematoda: Philometridae) were collected in some marine fishes from off the southern coast of Iraq. Based on light and scanning electron microscopy, the following new species are described: Philometra tayeni n. sp. (males and nongravid females) from ovaries of the purple-spotted bigeye Priacanthus tayenus Richardson (Priacanthidae, Acanthuriformes), and Philometra nibeae n. sp. (males and gravid female) from the ovary of the blotched croaker Nibea maculata (Bloch et Schneider) (Sciaenidae, Acanthuriformes). Philometra tayeni is mainly characterised by a pair of postanal papillae and a V-shaped caudal mound in males and by their body lengths (2.42-2.99 mm), whereas P. nibeae differs from its gonad-infecting congeners parasitising scienids mainly based on the body length of males (2.29-2.49 mm) and their spicules (96-117 µm), absence of a pair of postanal papillae and shape of caudal mound consisting of two parts. A new species of parasitic copepod, Colobomatus deborae n. sp., belonging to the cyclopoid family Philichthyidae Vogt, 1877, is proposed based on adult female specimens collected from the interorbital canals of the Caitipa mojarra Diapterus rhombeus (Cuvier) (Gerreidae) from Sepetiba Bay, off the State of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. The new species closely resembles six species of Colobomatus Hesse, 1873, but differs from these close congeners based on the combination of the following characters: lateral cephalic processes forked basally with sharp tips, midventral cephalic process representing about one third of the length of the laterals, thoracic processes forked and caudal rami with a pair of unequal processes. Together with the new species described in the present study, the philichthyid fauna of Brazil rises to 10 species reported from 14 Brazilian marine fish species. The present study provides new host and first description of the male of Colobomatus stelliferi Pombo, Turra, Paschoal & Luque, 2015 (Copepoda, Philichthyidae), collected from the mandibular canals of the Argentine croaker Umbrina canosai Berg, off the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Four out of nine fish analyzed (prevalence 44.4%) were parasitized by C. stelliferi and showed a mean intensity of 2.5 (range 2-3, standard deviation 1.25). Adult males of C. stelliferi can be differentiated from their closest congeners based on the combination of the following characters: maxilliped with naked basal segment and small apical spine, the presence of two elements on the second endopodal segment of the antenna, and the presence of leg 4. This parasitic copepod is seemingly host-specific to fish of the family Sciaenidae and its occurrence is restricted to the Brazilian coast. Two new species of copepods assigned to the genus Acusicola Cressey, 1970 (Cyclopoida: Ergasilidae) are proposed based on post-metamorphic adult females, parasitizing the gills of two actinopterygian fish off Brazil namely, the Tripletail Lobotes surinamensis (Bloch) (Lobotidae), collected in the coastal zone of the State of Pará, near Curuçá Municipallity, and the Swordspine snook Centropomus ensiferus Poey (Centropomidae) collected in Sepetiba Bay, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Acusicola iamarinoi n. sp. parasite of L. surinamensis, differs from its closet congeners based on the first segment of the antennule armed with 10 setae, the presence of a maxillule armed with four elements and a pair of blunt processes dorsally on the fourth pedigerous somite. Acusicola pasternakae n. sp., collected from C. ensiferus, can be distinguished from its closest congeners based on the membranous sheath of the first endopodal segment of antenna with horizontal marks, the first segment of the antennule armed with 11 setae and a spine on the last exopodal segment of leg 2. Cynoscionella n. g. is proposed for Cynoscionella sanmarci n. sp. and two previously described species of Diplectanum Diesing, 1858 were reassigned into the new genus. The three species are gill parasites of sciaenid fishes (Perciformes: Sciaenidae). The new genus is closely related with Diplectanum (sensu stricto), but is mainly distinguished by its male copulatory organ (MCO) having a slightly sclerotized sleeve-shaped base, lacking accessory piece and accessory copulatory organ. In addition, Cynoscionella n. g. differs from Diplectanum species by having the ventral anchors with well-developed roots, and a prostatic reservoir simple. Cynoscionella sanmarci n. sp. is a parasite of the cachema weakfish Cynoscion phoxocephalus Jordan & Gilbert, a demersal teleost collected from off the coastal zone of Puerto Pizarro, Tumbes region, northern Peru. Diplectanum bilobatum Hargis, 1955 from the spotted weakfish Cynoscion nebulosus (Cuvier) and D. monticellii Domingues & Boeger, 2003 from the smooth weakfish Cynoscion leiarchus (Cuvier), are transferred to Cynoscionella n. g. as Cy. bilobatum (Hargis, 1955) n. comb. and Cy. monticelli (Domingues & Boeger, 2003) n. comb. A new species of parasitic copepod, Lepeophtheirus mondacola sp. nov. (Siphonostomatoida; Caligidae), is described based on female and male specimens obtained from the shortjaw leatherjacket Oligoplites refulgens (Actinopterygii; Perciformes; Carangidae), captured in the southeastern Gulf of California off northwestern Mexico. The new species can be separated from its congeners by a combination of characters that includes: adult female with a subquadrate genital complex bearing slightly protruded posterolateral corners, two indistinct somites on the abdomen which, when combined together, is about two times longer than wide, a caudal ramus that is twice as long as it is wide, a postantennal process comprising a stout base and short claw, a dentiform process of the maxillule with two unequal tines, a maxilliped with a stout protopod and subchela, a sternal furca with a pair of bifurcated tines, a leg 3 exopod composed of 2 segments, five setae on the distal endopodal segment of leg 3 and a leg 4 exopod composed of three segments and armed with one long and two short apical spines on the distal exopodal segment; adult male with a suborbicular genital complex, an abdomen composed of one short and one long, indistinctly separated somites, a caudal ramus that is twice as long as it is wide, a stout postantennal process, a small triangular process at the base of the inner tine of the maxillulary dentiform process and a 3-segmented exopod on leg 4. Lernaeopodidae Milne Edwards, 1840, is an ecological and economically important fish parasite family of copepods (Crustacea: Copepoda), consisting of 48 genera with 334 valid species. To date, approximately 17 genera have been documented from both teleost and elasmobranch hosts from South African marine waters. As part of parasitological surveys targeting parasites of the endemic intertidal klipfish, Clinus superciliosus (Linnaeus) (Clinidae) along the South African coast, a species of Lernaeopodidae was discovered on the gills of this host. Alella igillimpethu n. sp. is described from Clinus superciliosus from Langebaan marina on the west coast of South Africa, with a prevalence of 42.1% and mean intensity of 2.9 (ranging from 1-13). Morphological identification was done using light and scanning electron microscopy and the species description was generated with the aid of DEscription Language for TAxonomy (DELTA) software. The mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) region, as well as partial 18S and 28S ribosomal RNA genes confirmed the classification within the family Lernaeopodidae. This is the first report of Lernaeopodidae from C. superciliosus, or in fact any member of Clinidae, as well as the first molecular characterisation of any marine lernaeopodid infecting teleost fish from South Africa. Cucullanus tunisiensis sp. nov., (Nematoda: Cucullanidae), collected from the intestine of the white grouper Epinephelus aeneus from waters off the coast of Tunisia is described based on light and scanning electron microscopic observations. The new species is characterized by the presence of lateral alae, ventral sucker, long unequal spicules (left spicule 2474-2789 μm long, right spicule 2357-2518 μm long). This is the sixth nominal species of the genus Cucullanus Müller, 1777 and the first representative of this genus infecting fishes of Serranidae family reported from Tunisian waters., (© 2022. Members of the parasitic copepod family Pennellidae are highly transformed ecto- or mesoparasites infecting a wide array of marine teleosts. Currently, this family contains more than 20 valid genera. The pennellid genus Cardiodectes Wilson, 1917 is currently known to contain 15 nominal species. Some pennellids exhibit a complex life cycle involving an intermediate host; it is known that planktonic pteropod molluscs are intermediate hosts for Cardiodectes. Pennellid mesoparasites can be detected by the conspicuous female egg-carrying trunk on the host external surface. The copepod cephalothorax is deeply embedded in the host muscle tissue. Members of Cardiodectes have been reported from several teleost families, mainly Myctophidae and Engraulidae. From the parasitological examination of a juvenile individual of a scarid teleost collected in a reef lagoon of Roatan Island, Honduras, Central America, several ovigerous female individuals of a mesoparasitic pennellid copepod were found; these specimens were recognized as representative of an undescribed species of Cardiodectes Wilson, 1917. The new species, C. roatanensis n. sp., differs from its known congeners in several respects, including the presence of neck lobes, paired posterior protuberances of the trunk, trunk shape and proportions, structure of cephalothorax lobes, cephalothorax relative size, and number of legs. The new species from Roatan is the second member of this copepod genus to be reported from the Caribbean region, after C. boxshalli Bellwood, 1981 from off Jamaica (Bellwood 1981). A parasitological survey searching diplectanids (Monogenea: Diplecatnidae) infesting the gills of marine fishes from South America was carried out during the 2019-2020 period. The gills of four sciaenid species, 2 Cheilotrema fasciatum Tschudi, 1 smalleye croaker Nebris microps Cuvier, 2 royal highhat Pareques lanfeari (Barton), and 1 minor stardrum Stellifer minor (Tschudi), were sampled. Six new species of Rhamnocercus Monaco, Wood & Mizelle, 1954 were described: Rhamnocercus chacllae n. sp. and Rhamnocercus chaskae n. sp. from P. lanfeari, Rhamnocercus fasciatus n. sp. from C. fasciatum, Rhamnocercus microps n. sp. from N. microps, and Rhamnocercus rimaci n. sp. and Rhamnocercus tantaleani n. sp. from S. minor. Rhamnocercus chacllae n. sp. can be differentiated from its congeners by its L-shaped male copulatory organ (MCO) and by having an anteromedial slight notch at ventral bar. Rhamnocercus chaskae n. sp. differs from the other species of the genus by its long and straight MCO with bifid distal end and by having haptoral accessory spines at level of ventral bar with quadrifid distal portion. Rhamnocercus fasciatus n. sp. is characterized by possessing a straight and long MCO with truncated distal end, haptoral accessory spines at level of ventral bar with bifid distal portion, dorsal bars with a knob at lateral extremity, and a large vagina with bell-shaped. Rhamnocercus microps n. sp. differs from all congeners mainly by having a short and straight MCO with the distal end of internal tube spatulate and uncovered by external tube. Rhamnocercus rimaci n. sp. is can be distinguished from all other species of Rhamnocercus by having an almost J-shaped MCO with the distal end of external tube slight expanded and the distal end of internal tube narrow and uncovered by external tube. Rhamnocercus tantaleani n. sp. is mainly characterized by its MCO, which is tubular and straight, having the distal end of external tube bifurcated (right branch well-expanded and left branch narrow) and the distal end of internal tube enveloped by left branch of the external tube. This is the first data on the parasites of P. lanfeari, a little known, but popular fish in local markets from Peru. Rhamnocercus microps n. sp. is the first described species of Rhamnocercus in Brazil. The present finding brings to 12, the number of known species of Rhamnocercus. The blue mackerel Scomber australasicus is one of the major commercial fishes consumed in southern Japan. Three species of parasitic copepods were collected from S. australasicus in the East China Sea off the west coast of Kyushu Island, southern Japan. These copepods are each characterized based on the females: Pumiliopes scombri (Bomolochidae) differs from its congeners by the presence of fine ventral spinules on legs 2 to 4; Colobomatus itoui n. sp. (Philichthyidae) is characterized by having the cephalosome with a pair of dorsal hemispherical cephalic protrusions but without an apical cephalic process and the anal somite with a pair of posterolateral protrusions with a smooth tip; and Caligus kanagurta (Caligidae) is distinguishable from its congeners accommodated in the Caligus diaphanus-group by bearing an atypical bulged leg 4 with long protruded pectens. The collection of C. kanagurta in Japanese waters represents its new country record. Recent examinations of some marine fishes from off the coast of South Australia revealed the presence of two species of Philometra Costa, 1845 (Nematoda: Philometridae): P. inconveniens n. sp. from the ovary (males) and body cavity (subgravid female) of the southern garfish Hyporhamphus melanochir (Valenciennes) (Beloniformes, Hemiramphidae) and Philometra sp. (gravid and subgravid females) from the body cavity of the Australian barracuda Sphyraena novaehollandiae Günther (Perciformes, Sphyraenidae) (new host and geographical records). Specimens of species are described and illustrated based on light and scanning electron microscopical examinations. Philometra inconveniens n. sp. differs from the most similar species P. longa Moravec, Barton & Shamsi, 2021, a parasite of the body cavity of the congeneric host off eastern Australia, mainly by a different structure of the gubernaculum (absence of dorsal barbs and presence of lateral extensions on its distal portion). In the evaluation of the larval trypanorhynch fauna off the Sultanate of Oman, a total of 188 bony fishes belonging to 16 species were studied, which led to the description of a new species with the establishment of new host and locality records. A new otobothriid species, Otobothrium muscatense n. sp., is described from Rhabdosargus sarba (Forsskål). Based on scolex morphology and tentacular armature, the new species closely resembles the small-sized Otobothrium Linton, 1890 species described as Otobothrium cysticum (Mayer, 1842) and O. crenacolle Linton, 1890. However, it differs from them in the basal armature by a more robust shape of the first principal and the triangular shape of the billhooks as well as by the retractor muscle originating in the posterior part of the tentacle sheath, attaching to a thickening of the tentacle sheath wall, with a muscular branch continuing and attaching at front part of the bulb. It differs from the other species of Otobothrium by size, the combination of six principal hooks and a single intercalary hook in the metabasal armature, and the plane of reflection through the tentacle surfaces. New locality records of the tentaculariids Nybelinia indica Chandra, 1986, Heteronybelinia yamagutii (Dollfus, 1960), Tentacularia coryphaenae Bosc, 1797, and Mixonybelinia lepturi Palm, 2004, together with the lacistorhynchids Pseudogrillotia multiminacantha Palm, 2004 and Callitetrarhynchus gracilis (Rudolphi, 1819), and the pseudotobothriid Parotobothrium balli (Southwell, 1929) off the Muscat region are established. Of the reported species, especially P. multiminacantha and M. lepturi occurring in Trichiurus lepturus L. further demonstrate the relatedness between the Indonesian and the northwestern Indian Ocean fauna, increasing the number of joint records between Indonesia and Omani waters to 14 species.

Lamellodiscus chin n. sp. (Monogenea: Diplectanidae) was described from Acanthopagrus sivicolus Akazaki (Perciformes: Sparidae) in Okinawa-jima Island, Ryukyu Islands based on morphological and molecular data. This new species resembles L. spari and L. elegans in morphologically but differs by its accessory piece curving and widening toward the tip. Three species of Lamellodiscus (L. japonicus Ogawa & Egusa, 1978, L. takitai Ogawa & Egusa, 1978, and L. spari Zhukov, 1970) were recorded from A. schlegelii (Bleeker), and L. japonicus was collected from A. latus (Houttuyn) in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan. I herein propose Lamellodiscus egusai nom. nov. for L. japonicus which is a junior primary homonym of L. japonicus Pillai & Pillai, 1974. Based on the type specimens and newly collected specimens from wild hosts, the type localities of L. japonicus (= L. egusai nom. nov.) and L. takitai are discussed. In addition, a list of nominal species of Japanese diplectanids is provided.

Choricotyle australiensis Roubal, Armitage & Rohde, 1983, a diclidophorid monogenean species, is redescribed and genetically characterised using the partial nuclear 28S ribosomal RNA gene (28S rRNA) and a fragment of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene sequences for specimens collected from Chrysophrys auratus (Forster) off Australia and New Zealand. Previous studies have either provided morphological or genetic results, whereas this study combines morphological and advanced molecular methods. A total of 70 Ch. auratus were examined with 22 individuals of C. australiensis recovered from the gills (overall prevalence of 23%). This study has provided the first evidence for the exploration of mitochondrial cox1 region for C. australiensis. Comparison of the newly generated sequences with other available data supported the distinction of C. australiensis among diclidophorid Furhmann, 1928 species thus confirming its taxonomic status.

The current status of the caligid copepods parasitic on marine fishes off Turkey is reviewed and an updated checklist comprising a total of 24 species, belonging to three different genera, Caligus O. F. Müller, 1785, Euryphorus H. Milne Edwards, 1840 and Lepeophtheirus von Nordmann, 1832, is presented together with habitus illustrations and a key to all 24 species. Two of the species of caligids listed herein constitute new records for Turkish waters. The first, Caligus quadratus Shiino, 1954, a well-known species of the genus, was collected from the common dolphin fish, Coryphaena hippurus Linnaeus. The second, Caligus scribae Essafi, Cabral & Raibaut, 1984, a very rare and poorly known member of the genus, was sampled from a new teleost host, the parrot fish, Sparisoma cretense (Linnaeus). Both fish species were caught in north-eastern Mediterranean waters off the Turkish coast. Caligus quadratus is only briefly described based on key diagnostic characters whereas a full re-description is provided for C. scribae, as the only description available for this species is incomplete and lacks detail. Sparisoma cretense is a new host record for C. scribae. In addition, this is the first report of C. quadratus from the Mediterranean.

A new ancyrocephalid monogenean is described from the gills of wild White-spottedrabbitfish Siganus canaliculatus (Park) based on morphological and molecular analyses. Glyphidohaptor safiensis n. sp. can be distinguished from other members of the genus by the shape of the accessory piece of the male copulatory organ (MCO). Unlike its congeners, the rod-shaped accessory piece of G. safiensis n. sp. is distally broad and flattened. The MCO of G. safiensis n. sp. is curved, enclosed in a heavy sheath with a terminal flap. Partial large subunit (LSU), partial small subunit (SSU) and the partial SSU, entire internal transcribed spacer region 1 (ITS1) and partial 5.8S rDNA of the new species and two species of Tetrancistrum Goto & Kikuchi, 1917 from the same host and locality were sequenced and subjected to phylogenetic analysis. The LSU rDNA analysis grouped G. safiensis n. sp. with Tetrancistrum sp. from the gills of Siganus fuscescens Houttuyn from Australia, indicating a possible misidentification of the latter. Sequences of the SSU rDNA of the new species were most similar to those for Pseudohaliotrema sphincteroporus Yamaguti, 1953, demonstrating the close relatedness of the genera Pseudohaliotrema Yamaguti, 1953 and Glyphidohaptor Kritsky, Galli & Yang, 2007 within the Ancyrocephalidae. The comparison of the partial SSU (424 bp) and entire ITS1 and partial 5.8S rDNA (246 bp) sequences obtained for G. safiensis n. sp. with the only available sequence of another member of Glyphidohaptor Kritsky, Galli & Yang, 2007, G. pletocirra Paperna, 1972 (HE601931-HE601933) yielded on average 1.08% dissimilarity (a difference of 7 bases), with a p-distance of 0.010 ± 0.004%. This is the first record of a species of Glyphidohaptor from S. canaliculatus and from the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

Three species of Dioncopseudobenedenia Yamaguti, 1965 (Monogenea: Capsalidae: Benedeniinae) have been described, all found parasitising Naso spp. (Acanthuridae) and Siganus lineatus (Siganidae), in Hawaii, the Great Barrier Reef, and New Caledonia in the Pacific. In this paper, D. elongata n. sp. is described, found parasitising the gills of N. unicornis (Forsskål) caught off Okinawa-jima Island. Dioncopseudobenedenia kala Yamaguti, 1965 is also reported, found parasitising the gills of N. unicornis, and those of a new host, the common dolphinfish Coryphaena hippurus Linnaeus (Coryphaenidae), off Okinawa and Kochi prefectures, Japan. The new species differed from known species in both nuclear (28S rDNA and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and mitochondrial DNA (cox1) sequences. Morphologically, the new species differed from other species of Dioncopseudobenedenia in possessing a longer accessory sclerite and a thick, short penis. No species of Dioncopseudobenedenia have been detected during past examinations of C. hippurus; this instance was probably an accidental infection. A key for identification of the species of Dioncopseudobenedenia is also provided herein.

Two species of microcotylid monogeneans, Microcotyle caudata Goto, 1894 and Microcotyle sebastisci Yamaguti, 1958, have been reported from fishes of the Sebastes inermis species complex and Sebastiscus marmoratus (Cuvier) (Scorpaeniformes: Sebastidae). So far, these parasite species have been distinguished by the size of the eggs and the number of testes, but based on morphological evidence including re-examination of the type-specimens and topotypes and molecular analysis, we consider M. sebastisci to be a junior synonym of M. caudata. As a result, M. caudata exhibits a wide host range, seven species from three genera and two families. A new species, Microcotyle kasago n. sp., is described based on material from S. marmoratus and differentiated from other congeners by means of morphological and molecular analysis.

Ascarophisnema hoiae n. sp. (Nematoda: Cystidicolidae) is described from the stomach of the trumpeter whiting, Sillago maculata Quoy & Gaimard (Perciformes: Sillaginidae) from Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. It differs morphologically from the only other valid congener, A. tridentatum Moravec & Justine, 2010 in the shape of the sub-labium and in the lengths of the spicules and the morphology of their distal tips (bifid). It represents the first record of this genus from Australia and appears to be highly oioxenous, having been found only in this host species among 133 other species of fish examined at the same locality.

Gobioecetes longibasis n. sp. (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae) from the gills of the freshwater goby Rhinogobius similis Gill (Perciformes: Gobiidae) in the River Teima, Okinawa-jima Island, the Ryukyu Archipelago, southern Japan, is described. The new species is distinguished from two congeneric species of Gobioecetes Ogawa & Itoh, 2017, G. rhinogobius (Ling, 1973) and G. biwaensis Ogawa & Itoh, 2017, by having longer ventral hamuli, longer and wider internal process of the dorsal hamuli, and the ratio of dorsal hamulus length to base length. This new species is host-specific to R. similis and considered to be endemic to Okinawa-jima Island or the Ryukyu Archipelago. We also report Rhinogobius sp. OM from a tributary of Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture, central Japan, as a new host of G. biwaensis.

Allogastrocotyle bivaginalis Nasir & Fuentes Zambrano, 1983, the sole species of Allogastrocotyle Nasir & Fuentes Zambrano, 1983, was described from Trachurus lathami Nichols off Venezuela and never recorded since. We found monogeneans on Trachurus picturatus (Bowdich) (Carangidae) off the Algerian coast, Mediterranean Sea, which had the characteristics of the genus, including, especially, paired vaginae. We compared them to the single available specimen of A. bivaginalis, the holotype. Unfortunately, this holotype does not show clamp structure and soft internal anatomy. Our specimens were similar to A. bivaginalis in most characteristics such as body shape, vaginal openings, and number of testes, clamps and hooks in genital atrium. We detected minor differences in clamp structure but could not ascertain if these were the result of incomplete observations in the original description of real morphological differences. The host fish of our specimens were barcoded (cox1) confirming their specific identity. A phylogenetic analysis of cox1 sequences showed that our sequences of A. bivaginalis were distinct from those of Pseudaxine trachuri Parona & Perugia, 1889 (distance > 15%) and of several other gastrocotylids. Finally, we could not distinguish our Mediterranean specimens from A. bivaginalis, neither on the base of morphology (because the original description is incomplete) nor on molecules (because molecular information is lacking on A. bivaginalis from Venezuela) and ascribe them to A. bivaginalis. However, hosts are different, and localities are widely separated, so it is likely that future study will show that the species from the Mediterranean is a distinct, new, species.

Flagellotrema convolutum Ozaki, 1936 was found parasitising the intestine of two new host fish species, the Indian sail-fin surgeonfish, Zebrasoma desjardinii (Bennett) (Acanthuridae), and the Picasso triggerfish, Rhinecanthus assasi (Forsskål) (Balistidae), from the northern Red Sea off Egypt. Another description of this species is provided with detailed morphological observations made of the genital systems. Using newly acquired molecular data from the D1-D3 regions of 28S rDNA, the phylogenetic relationships of subfamilies and genera within the Gyliauchenidae Fukui, 1929 are elucidated with morphological support. The Petalocotylinae Ozaki, 1934 and the Robphildollfusiinae Paggi & Orecchia, 1963 are recognized as valid subfamilies within the Gyliauchenidae. The Apharyngogyliaucheninae Yamaguti, 1942 and the Ichthyotreminae Caballero & Bravo-Hollis, 1952 remain junior synonyms of the Gyliaucheninae Fukui, 1929. Based on its unique position relative to all gyliauchenid subfamilies and its distinct separation from all other gyliauchenine genera, the Paragyliaucheninae n. subfam. is erected to contain Paragyliauchen Yamaguti, 1934. Paragyliauchen differs from all other gyliauchenine genera by having a pharynx differentiated into two, well-developed muscular regions: an anterior region composed of a ring with indented projections anteriorly and a posterior region that is ellipsoidal or barrel-shaped. Modified and/or new keys to the four subfamilies we recognize within the Gyliauchenidae as well as the genera within each subfamily are presented, and we discuss the evolutionary development and etymology of the unique anatomy of the anterior of gyliauchenids.

Lepeophtheirus lichiae Barnard, 1948 (Copepoda: Caligidae), a very rare and poorly known sea louse, is redescribed based on a single newly collected female. The specimen was collected from the dorsal body surface of the leerfish, Lichia amia (Linnaeus) caught in north-eastern Mediterranean waters off the Turkish coast. The original and only available description of L. lichiae was incomplete and with only three illustrations: the dorsal view of the female habitus, the sternal furca, and the postantennal process. Here, we present a full re-description of female of L. lichiae and report it from the Mediterranean Sea for the first time.

Four new monorchiid trematodes are reported from Moreton Bay, Australia; three new species of Provitellus Dove & Cribb, 1998 and one species of Ovipusillus Dove & Cribb, 1998, are described from Gnathanodon speciosus (Forsskål) (Carangidae), the golden trevally. Provitellus chaometra n. sp., Provitellus infrequens n. sp. and Provitellus infibrova n. sp. differ significantly from the only other species of this genus, Provitellus turrum Dove & Cribb, 1998, in the structure of the eggs, vitelline follicles and terminal organ. The four species are united, however, in the possession of short caeca and a long genital atrium, a combination not reported previously. Ovipusillus geminus n. sp. strongly resembles its only congener, Ovipusillus mayu Dove & Cribb, 1998, but differs in the morphology of the diverticulum in the cirrus-sac and the shape of the pharynx. Complete ITS2 and partial 28S rDNA sequence data were generated for all four species, as well as for two known species of Hurleytrematoides Yamaguti, 1953, Hurleytrematoides galzini McNamara & Cribb, 2011 and Hurleytrematoides loi McNamara & Cribb, 2011. These sequences were analysed with those for other monorchiids available on GenBank, and phylogenetic analyses showed that the four species of Provitellus and two species of Ovipusillus each form strongly supported clades. As with previous monorchiid phylogenetic studies, however, the overall resolution of the phylogeny of the Monorchiidae is poor.

Two species of cucullanid nematodes collected from the intestine of marine fishes off New Caledonia were studied with the use of light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM): Dichelyne (Cucullanellus) bodiani n. sp. from Bodianus perditio (Quoy & Gaimard) (Perciformes: Labridae), characterised mainly by the small size of the body (males and gravid females 2.26-3.13 mm and 2.46-3.32 mm long, respectively), the presence of very long spicules (1.53-1.66 mm in length), the remarkably large seminal vesicle and the arrangement of caudal papillae, is the second known species of Dichelyne Jägerskiöld, 1902 parasitising fishes of the Labridae and the second nominal species of this genus recorded from fishes in New Caledonian waters. Cucullanus hansoni Olsen, 1952, originally described from Hawaii, is now, after 67 years, again reported from its type-host, Sufflamen fraenatum (Latreille) (Tetraodontiformes: Balistidae), from off New Caledonia. The SEM examination of C. hansoni, used in this species for the first time, revealed some new morphological details, such as the presence of a median precloacal cuticular elevation or the shape of deirids and distal tips of spicules, as well as the exact location of caudal papillae and phasmids in the male. This is the seventh species of Cucullanus Müller, 1777 recorded from fishes off New Caledonia.

A new species of capsalid monogenean, Benedenia armata n. sp., is described from Lethrinus haematopterus Temminck & Schlegel (Perciformes: Lethrinidae) from off Danjo Islands, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The new species differs from other species of Benedenia Diesing, 1858 in that the common genital atrium has spines and the vas deferens has two swellings. Lethrinus haematopterus has been considered as the type-host of Benedenia ishikawae (Goto, 1894) based on the local name 'Kuchibi-dai'. However, this name refers not only to L. haematopterus but also to L. nebulosus (Forsskål), and L. haematopterus examined in this study was not infected by B. ishikawae. Further study is required to determine the type-host of B. ishikawae and to redetermine the species of Benedenia that are parasitic on Lethrinus spp. in the type-locality of B. ishikawae (Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan).

The caligid copepod Caligus lichiae Brian, 1906 is redescribed based on new material collected from the type-host, Lichia amia (Linnaeus), and from a second carangid, Seriola dumerili (Risso), both caught in the Gulf of Iskenderun, Turkey. Key diagnostic characters of both sexes are reported, supported by drawings and scanning electron microscopy images. Despite the commercial importance of its type-host, L. amia, C. lichiae has not been reported since its original description. After detailed comparison with recent descriptions of Caligus aesopus Wilson C. B., 1921, commonly found on S. dumerili, we recognise these two species as conspecific and propose to relegate C. aesopus Wilson C. B., 1921 to a junior subjective synonym of C. lichiae Brian, 1906. Caligus lichiae is a member of the C. confusus group of species and an identification key to species in this group is provided.

Parasite biodiversity of fish of the southern part of the Mediterranean sea is still incompletely explored. We describe here Microcotyle visa n. sp. from the gill filaments of the bluespotted seabream Pagrus caeruleostictus (Valenciennes) (Sparidae) collected off the Algerian coast. The identity of fish hosts was confirmed by barcoding. Microcotyle visa n. sp. is herein described and illustrated. Analysis of the cox1 gene of the monogeneans revealed minor intraspecific variation (1.4%), an order of magnitude lower than the distance between this species and other Microcotyle species (10-15 %). Microcotyle visa n. sp. is distinguished from Microcotyle erythrini van Beneden & Hesse, 1863, a congener infesting sparids, on the basis of morphological (size of clamps, number of testes) and molecular (cox1) differences. This is the fourth member of the genus known to parasitise a sparid host. A species of Paramicrocotyle sp. included in the molecular analysis was nested within a robust Microcotyle + Paramicrocotyle clade; in the absence of demonstrated molecular and morphological differences, we consider that Paramicrocotyle Caballero & Bravo-Hollis, 1972 is a junior synonym of Microcotyle van Beneden & Hesse, 1863 and transfer two species of Paramicrocotyle as Microcotyle danielcarrioni (Martinez & Barrantes, 1977) n. comb. and Microcotyle moyanoi (Villalba & Fernandes, 1986) n. comb.

The new species Bucephalus damriyasai n. sp. is described from Caranx heberi (Bennett) from off Bali, Indonesia. It can be distinguished from other Bucephalus spp. recorded from carangid hosts by its narrow elongate body shape and the relatively long distance between the rhynchus and the vitellarium, as well as other features distinguishing it from individual species. The most similar species are differentiated from B. damriyasai n. sp. as follows: B. carangis Yamaguti, 1970 has a much greater length, the rhynchus is smaller and the cirrus-sac is small, not always reaching to the posterior testis; B. fragilis Velasquez, 1959 is a tiny species, the pre-vitelline distance is short and the caecum is saccular; B. gorgon (Linton, 1905) is much longer and relatively broader, the uterus reaches distinctly anterior to the vitellarium and the rhyncheal tentacles appear more complex; B. labracis Paggi & Orecchia, 1965 is distinctly longer, slightly broader, with a slightly larger rhynchus, and has shorter pre-uterine and pre-mouth distances; B. paraheterotentaculatus Velasquez, 1959 is much longer, relatively rather broad, the rhynchus is said to bear 21 tentacles, the post-testicular region and cirrus-sac reach are longer and the caecum is described as saccular; B. sphyraenae Yamaguti, 1952 is longer, slightly broader, the uterus reaches anteriorly to the vitellarium and the caecum is claviform and oriented anteriorly; B. margaritae Ozaki & Ishibashi, 1934 (syn. B. varicus Manter, 1940) is relatively squat, has shorter pre-vitelline and pre-mouth distances and a longer post-testicular distance and cirrus-sac reach; B. yamagutii Gupta & Singh, 1985 is broader, with a relatively short pre-vitelline distance, the caecum extends anteriorly to the pharynx, but not posteriorly and the rhynchus is said to carry five tentacles. The distinctive features of B. damriyasai n. sp. are compared with those of all other marine Bucephalus spp. in a table. The number of bucephalid trematodes known from Indonesian waters is now 13, two of them await further identification. They have been described from the fish families Carangidae, Platycephalidae, Sciaenidae, Serranidae and Sphyraenidae.

We review species of the genus Lepotrema Ozaki, 1932 from marine fishes in the Indo-West Pacific. Prior to the present study six species were recognised. Here we propose eight new species on the basis of combined morphological and molecular analysis: Lepotrema acanthochromidis n. sp. ex Acanthochromis polyacanthus from the Great Barrier Reef (GBR); Lepotrema hemitaurichthydis n. sp. ex Hemitaurichthys polylepis and H. thompsoni from Palau and French Polynesia; Lepotrema melichthydis n. sp. ex Melichthys vidua from Palau and the GBR; Lepotrema amansis n. sp. ex Amanses scopas from the GBR; Lepotrema cirripectis n. sp. ex Cirripectes filamentosus, C. chelomatus and C. stigmaticus from the GBR; Lepotrema justinei n. sp. ex Sufflamen fraenatum from New Caledonia; Lepotrema moretonense n. sp. ex Prionurus microlepidotus, P. maculatus and Selenotoca multifasciata from Moreton Bay; and Lepotrema amblyglyphidodonis n. sp. ex Amblyglyphidodon curacao and Amphipron akyndynos from the GBR. We also report new host records and provide novel molecular data for two known species: Lepotrema adlardi Bray, Cribb & Barker, 1993 and Lepotrema monile Bray & Cribb, 1998. Two new combinations are formed, Lepotrema cylindricum (Wang, 1989) n. comb. (for Preptetos cylindricus) and Lepotrema navodonis (Shen, 1986) n. comb. (for Lepocreadium navodoni). With the exception of a handful of ambiguous records, the evidence is compelling that the host-specificity of species in this genus is overwhelmingly oioxenous or stenoxenous. This renders the host distribution in three orders and ten families especially difficult to explain as many seemingly suitable hosts are not infected. Multi-loci molecular data (ITS2 rDNA, 28S rDNA and cox1 mtDNA) demonstrate that Lepotrema is a good generic concept, but limited variability in sequence data and differences in phylogenies produced for different gene regions make relationships within the genus difficult to define.

During a research on gill ectoparasites of Peruvian marine fishes, four dactylogyrid (Monogenea) species, parasitising two teleost species, Bodianus diplotaenia (Gill) (Labridae) and Calamus brachysomus (Lockington) (Sparidae), were found. Euryhaliotrema luisae n. sp. ex C. brachysomus is differentiated from other congeneric species by the morphology of the male copulatory organ, which comprises a coil of nine counterclockwise rings, and by the morphology of the anchors and bars. Euryhaliotrema magnopharyngis n. sp. ex C. brachysomus can be distinguished from all other congeners by having a well-developed pharynx occupying much of the anterior region and by the ventral bar, which is V-shaped, with well-elongated, thin arms. In addition, E. luisae n. sp. and E. magnopharyngis n. sp. can be differentiated from all other members of Euryhaliotrema Kritsky & Boeger, 2002 by the presence of a glandular oval plate lying on peduncle. Haliotrema diplotaenia n. sp. ex B. diplotaenia is characterised by the structure of the male copulatory organ, comprising a tapered-shaped cirrus tube with twisted acute tip and a filament-shaped accessory piece with medial and distal expansions, and by the morphology of the ventral bar (inverted W-shaped, with short lateral ends and two anterior conical protuberances). Haliotrema saezae n. sp. ex B. diplotaenia differs from all other members of Haliotrema Johnston & Tiegs, 1922 by having a tubular copulatory organ with curved distal tip and a filament-shaped accessory piece without lateral expansions, and by the morphology of anchors and bars. The present findings are added to the other six marine dactylogyrids previously reported from Peru.

Based on an integrative taxonomic approach, combining morphological characters and partial sequences of the nuclear 28S rRNA gene, a new genus and combination for the species Xenoligophoroides cobitis (Ergens, 1963) is proposed, to accommodate ancyrocephalid monogeneans, parasites on the gills of Gobius cobitis Pallas (Gobiidae) from the western Mediterranean Sea and the northern Black Sea. A morphological comparison of newly collected material with the descriptions of Ancyrocephalus cobitis Ergens, 1963 and Haliotrema cupensis Sasal, Pages & Euzet, 1998, recently synonymised and named as Haliotrema cobitis (Ergens, 1963), confirms their similarity and belonging to the same species. However, characters of this species, as the vas deferens not looping the caecal branch, the bilobed base of the male copulatory organ and the marginal hooks with an upright thumb, do not correspond to the diagnosis of Haliotrema Johnston & Tiegs, 1922. Morphologically, this species is close to members of Ligophorus Euzet & Suriano, 1977 and Kriboetrema Sarabeev, Rubtsova, Yang & Balbuena, 2013, but differs from the former in the accessory piece articulated with MCO and two prostatic reservoirs, and from the latter in the uncoiled MCO with bilobed base and the dextral vaginal pore. Moreover, all species of Ligophorus and Kriboetrema are parasites of grey mullets. A 28S rDNA-based phylogenetic analysis of sequences derived from specimens of X. cobitis from the Mediterranean and Black seas, along with sequences from several closely related genera of the Ancyrocephalidae, suggested the occurrence of a new taxonomic unit, which corresponded to the X. cobitis specimens. This finding supports the establishment of the new genus for the ancyrocephalid parasites on the gills of G. cobitis from the western Mediterranean Sea and the northern Black Sea.

As part of a survey of the parasites infecting the fishes of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia, the gill lamellae of two species, the common silver-biddy Gerres oyena (Forsskål) and the common silver belly Gerres subfasciatus Cuvier (both Gerreidae), were found infected with monogenoids as follows: Metahaliotrema filamentosum Venkatanarasaiah, 1981 (Dactylogyridae) was redescribed from G. oyena and recorded from G. subfasciatus (both new host records); Metahaliotrema imparilis n. sp., Protogyrodactylus monacanthus n. sp., Protogyrodactylus vulgaris n. sp. (all Dactylogyridae), Gyrodactylus xynus n. sp. (Gyrodactylidae), and Polylabris gerres (Sanders, 1944) Mamaev & Parukin, 1976 (Microcotylidae) were reported from G. subfasciatus; and Protogyrodactylus scalmophorus n. sp., Protogyrodactylus ichthyocercus n. sp., and Protogyrodactylus similis n. sp. were recorded from G. oyena. The new species are described, and the finding of M. filamentosum and P. gerres from Moreton Bay represent new geographic records. Haliotrema digyroides Zhang, 2001 and Haliotrema subancistroides Zhang, 2001 are transferred to Metahaliotrema Yamaguti, 1953 as Metahaliotrema digyroides (Zhang, 2001) n. comb. and Metahaliotrema subancistroides (Zhang, 2001) n. comb., respectively.

Digeneans of the lepocreadioid families Lepocreadiidae Odhner, 1905 and Aephnidiogenidae Yamaguti, 1934 from Moreton Bay, off southern Queensland, Australia, are recorded, along with the erection of a new family, Gibsonivermidae. Molecular data were generated for all representatives of these families collected during this study and a phylogram for members of the superfamily was generated based on the partial 28S rDNA dataset, placing these species in context with those previously sequenced. This phylogenetic analysis demonstrates that the monotypic Gibsonivermis Bray, Cribb & Barker, 1997 is isolated from all other lepocreadioids and supports the erection of Gibsonivermidae n. fam., which is defined morphologically, based particularly on the uniquely elongated male terminal genitalia, the distribution of the uterus in the forebody and the presence of a uroproct. Mobahincia teirae n. g., n. sp. is reported from Platax teira (Forsskål) in Moreton Bay and off Heron Island and New Caledonia. Recognition of this new genus is based on molecular results and the combination of caeca abutting the posterior body wall and the lack of an anterior body scoop or flanges. The following lepocreadioid species are reported from Moreton Bay for the first time: Bianium arabicum Sey, 1996 in Lagocephalus lunaris (Bloch & Schneider), Diploproctodaeum cf. monstrosum Bray, Cribb & Justine, 2010 in Arothron hispidus (Linnaeus), Multitestis magnacetabulum Mamaev, 1970 and Neomultitestis aspidogastriformis Bray & Cribb, 2003 in Platax teira and Opechona austrobacillaris Bray & Cribb, 1998 in Pomatomus saltatrix (Linnaeus). Bianium plicitum (Linton, 1928) is reported from Torquigener squamicauda (Ogilby) for the first time. Sequences of newly collected specimens of Austroholorchis sprenti (Gibson, 1987) indicate that the species forms a clade with other members of the Aephnidiogenidae, agreeing with its morphology. The phylogenetic status of all newly sequenced species is discussed.

Caligus pagelli Delamare Deboutteville & Nuñes-Ruivo, 1958, a rare and poorly known sea louse, is redescribed based on newly collected specimens of both sexes. The new material was collected from the common pandora Pagellus erythrinus (Linnaeus) caught in western Mediterranean waters off Corsica. The original and only available description of C. pagelli was incomplete and based only on females. Here we redescribe the female in detail, and describe the male for the first time.

Based on light and scanning electron microscopical studies, a new nematode parasite, Pseudodelphis eleginopsis n. sp. (Dracunculoidea: Guyanemidae), is described from tissues behind the gills of the Patagonian blennie Eleginops maclovinus (Cuvier) (Perciformes: Eleginopsidae) off the Atlantic coast (San Matías and San José Gulfs) of Patagonia, Argentina. The new species is mainly characterised by the length of the body (males 10-13 mm, larvigerous females 31-59 mm), the number (14) and arrangement of cephalic papillae, the absence of a buccal capsule, the muscular to glandular oesophagus length ratio (1:3-4) of larvigerous females, the length of the spicules (48-63 µm) and the number (7 pairs) and arrangement of the caudal papillae in the male. Pseudodelphis eleginopsis n. sp. is the first species of this genus described from a marine fish in the Atlantic Ocean and the first known dracunculoid parasitising the fish host belonging to the family Eleginopsidae. As revealed by the examination of very young females of the new species, the female genital tract of Pseudodelphis spp. is monodelphic. The genus Syngnathinema Moravec, Spangenberg & Frasca, 2001 is considered a junior synonym of Pseudodelphis Adamson & Roth, 1990 and, consequently, S. californiense and S. chitwoodi are transferred to Pseudodelphis as P. californiensis (Moravec, Spangenberg & Frasca, 2001) n. comb. and P. chitwoodi (Moravec & Kuchta, 2013) n. comb., respectively. Two dracunculoid species, Pseudodelphis limnicola Brugni & Viozzi, 2006 and the previously established Philonema percichthydis Moravec, Urawa & Coria, 1997, both described from the same freshwater host species, Percichthys trucha (Valenciennes), in the same region (Patagonia), are considered to be identical; therefore, the valid name of this species is Pseudodelphis percichthydis n. comb. and P. limnicola becomes its junior synonym. A key to the species of Pseudodelphis is provided.

The Humboldt Current Large Marine Ecosystem (HCLME) is recognised as one of the largest and most productive marine ecosystems. The estimated number of teleost fish species for the Chilean coast influenced by the HCLME reaches c.1,030 but digeneans have been reported for 39 teleost species, i.e. less than 4% of the potential hosts. During a survey of parasites of the Galápagos sheephead wrasse Semicossyphus darwini (Jennyns) (Perciformes: Labridae) from off northern Chile, we obtained representatives of three digenean species, Helicometrina nimia Linton, 1910 (Opecoelidae), Proctoeces humboldti George-Nascimento & Quiroga, 1983 (Fellodistomidae) and Labrifer secundus Manter, 1940 (Lepidapedidae). Labrifer secundus, originally described from Semicossyphus pulcher (Ayres, 1854) off the coast of Baja California, Mexico is re-described. Helicometrina nimia is a common parasite from littoral fishes in the HCLME. Semicossyphus darwini is a new host for these three digenean species.

Two monorchiid species are reported from the freckled goatfish, Upeneus tragula Richardson, from Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Specimens of a species new to science were most morphologically similar to species of the genus Timonia Bartoli & Prevot, 1966, but significant differences in the arrangement of the testes (symmetrical vs oblique) and morphology of the terminal organ (bipartite vs unipartite) necessitate the proposal of a new genus; Madhavia n. g. is proposed for M. fellaminutus n. sp. Specimens of the second species are identified as Parachrisomon delicatus (Manter & Pritchard, 1964) Madhavi, 2008, extending its known range from Hawaii to Australia. Complete ITS2 and partial 28S rDNA sequence data were generated for both species and analysed with those for other monorchiids available on GenBank. Phylogenetic analyses of the 28S rDNA dataset showed that both genera are distinct from other sequenced monorchiids, but overall the resolution between genera is poor and more sequence data are required to elucidate relationships within the family. We propose to transfer Timonia stunkardi (Ahmad, 1985) and Timonia vinodae (Ahmad, 1987) to the genus Neotimonia Madhavi, 2008, as Neotimonia stunkardi (Ahmad, 1985) n. comb. and Neotimonia vinodae (Ahmad, 1987) n. comb. Additionally, we were unable to locate any literature on Parachrisomon brotulidorum (Toman, 1973) Madhavi, 2008 and consider this species as nomen nudum.

Choerodonicola Cribb, 2005 is a minor genus of opecoelid trematodes defined for species with exceptionally small eggs but otherwise generalised morphology. Four species are currently recognised, all from fishes collected in Japanese waters but each from different perciform families: a labrid, a scarid, a sparid and pinguipeds. We report on a new species, Choerodonicola arothokoros n. sp., from the blue-barred parrotfish Scarus ghobban Forsskål (Scaridae) collected in subtropical waters of Moreton Bay, south-east Queensland, Australia. Using genetic sequence data for the ITS2 rDNA marker, we matched adult C. arothokoros to intramollsucan stages discovered in an intertidal gastropod Herpetopoma atratum (Gmelin) (Vetigastropoda: Chilodontidae) collected in close proximity to the fish hosts. Notably, the cercariae lack a penetration stylet and are among the smallest known in the Opecoelidae. We provide the first assessment of the phylogenetic position of Choerodonicola based on sequence data generated for the phylogenetically informative 18S and 28S rRNA coding regions, for C. arothokoros and also C. renko Machida, 2014, which we recollected from the yellowback seabream Dentex hypselosomus Bleeker from the fish market in Minabe, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. In our analyses, species of Choerodonicola resolved to neither of the major marine Plagioporinae (sensu lato) clades, clustering instead with Trilobovarium parvvatis Martin, Cutmore & Cribb, 2017, Podocotyloides parupenei (Manter, 1963) Pritchard, 1966 and Macvicaria magellanica Laskowski, Jeżewski & Zdzitowiecki, 2013. This clade is phylogenetically distinctive such that it has the potential to be recognised as a new opecoelid subfamily, but further investigation is required to establish the bounds for such a grouping and to determine the morphological and/or life-history patterns reflected by the phylogeny. Finally, we propose C. interruptus (Manter 1954) n. comb. for a species previously recognised in Plagioporus Stafford, 1904 and known only from Pseudolabrus miles (Schneider & Forster), a labrid endemic to New Zealand.

Based on light and scanning electron microscopical studies, two new gonad-infecting species of Philometra Costa, 1845, P. draco n. sp. and P. radiata n. sp. (Nematoda: Philometridae), are described from the marine perciform fishes Trachinus draco (Linnaeus) and T. radiatus (Linnaeus) (both Trachinidae), respectively, in the Gulf of Hammamet, off the northeastern coast of Tunisia. Philometra draco n. sp. and P. radiata n. sp. can be separated from other gonad-infecting species of this genus by the structures associated to the gubernaculum (e.g. dorsal protuberance, smooth field separating the dorsolateral longitudinal parts), as well as by the length of the body, spicules and gubernaculum. Philometra radiata n. sp. can be distinguished from P. draco n. sp. in having the dorsal side of the gubernaculum distal end provided with a median longitudinal smooth field demarcated by two dorsolateral lamellate parts. These two new species are the first philometrid species described from fishes of the family Trachinidae.

Based on light and scanning electron microscopical studies, a new nematode parasite, Capillaria appendigera n. sp. (Capillariidae), is described from the intestine of the goldbanded jobfish Pristipomoides multidens (Day) (Perciformes, Lutjanidae) from the Arafura Sea West, off the northern coast of Australia. The new species, belonging to the subgenus Procapillaria Moravec, 1987, differs from other congeneric species from fishes mainly in the length (0.92-1.13 mm), shape and structure of the spicule, obtuse spines on the spicule sheath and the structure of eggs. It is characterised, in the male, by the presence of two well-developed dorsolateral caudal lobes, a pair of lateral papillae, a heavily sclerotised spicule with many rough transverse grooves covering almost the entice spicule surface (except for spicule ends), a spinose spicule sheath, and in the female, by a subterminal anus, mostly the presence of a large vulval appendage and by eggs (size 54-69 × 27-33 µm) encapsulated by a conspicuous light-coloured superficial layer. Capillaria appendigera n. sp. is the 12th nominal species of capillariids recorded from fishes in Australian waters and the second known capillariid species parasitising fishes of the perciform family Lutjanidae. In addition, four unidentifiable, morphologically different types of capillariid females, probably representing undescribed species, were recorded from the intestines of marine fishes off the northern coast of Australia: Capillariidae gen. sp. 1 and Capillariidae gen. sp. 2 from Lutjanus johnii (Bloch) and L. malabaricus (Bloch & Schneider), respectively (both Lutjanidae), Capillariidae gen. sp. 3 from Protonibea diacanthus (Lacépède) (Sciaenidae) and Capillariidae gen. sp. 4 from Rachycentron canadum (Linnaeus) (Rachycentridae).

The insufficiently known nematode species Philometra filiformis (Stossich, 1896) (Philometridae) is redescribed based on light and scanning electron microscopical (SEM) examinations of specimens collected from the ovaries of the type-host, the common pandora Pagellus erythrinus (Linnaeus) (Perciformes, Sparidae), from off the Mediterranean coast of Tunisia. The male of this species was studied with SEM for the first time, which revealed some new, taxonomically important morphological features. The male posterior end has a caudal mound consisting of two lateral parts widely separated dorsally from each other, four pairs of small adanal papillae, a pair of large but moderately developed papillae located posterior to the cloacal aperture and a pair of small phasmids. The distal end of the gubernaculum is unique among all but one gonad-infecting species of Philometra Costa, 1845 by the chevron-shaped dorsal lamellar structures forming a median longitudinal range. Philometra filiformis is for the first time reported from Tunisian coastal waters, being the seventh philometrid species so far recorded from marine fishes off Tunisia.

A new species of parasitic copepod, Caligus fajerae n. sp. (Caligidae), is described from Scomberomorus sierra Jordan & Starks (Scombridae) caught off the northwestern coast of Mexico. The new species morphologically resembles Caligus cybii Bassett-Smith, 1898, Caligus kanagurta Pillai, 1961, Caligus pelamydis Krøyer, 1863 and Caligus robustus Bassett-Smith, 1898, all of which have been reported from scombrid hosts. Caligus fajerae n. sp. differs from these species by having spinules on the abdomen and caudal ramus, two processes on the proximal antennulary segment, fine striations on the claw of the antenna and maxilliped, a stouter and more recurved maxillulary dentiform process, shorter tines on the sternal furca, two additional patches of spinules on the distal endopodal segment of leg 2, a sclerotised lobe on the anteromedian surface of the leg 3 protopod and serrations on both margins of the first exopodal spine of leg 3. Analysis of the DNA sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene for Caligus fajerae n. sp. and 28 congeners, including C. pelamydis and C. robustus, showed that the new species grouped with Caligus belones Krøyer, 1863 (with 20% divergence), a species known to occur predominantly on needlefishes. Caligus fajerae n. sp. is the fifth species of Caligus reported from S. sierra. An updated host-parasite list for Caligus spp. on scombrids is provided.

Species of Anoplodiscus Sonsino, 1890 were previously only known from host members of Sparidae. A new species, Anoplodiscus hutsonae n. sp. is proposed for museum specimens originally collected from species of Scolopsis Cuvier (Nemipteridae) off Heron Island and Lizard Island, Australia. Additionally, Anoplodiscus tai Ogawa, 1994 is synonymised with Anoplodiscus cirrusspiralis Roubal, Armitage & Rohde, 1983 due to a lack of support for differential characters, and Anoplodiscus richiardii is considered a species inquirenda. Anoplodiscus cirrusspiralis causes visible lesions on the skin and fins of its host, and may also contribute to poor food conversion rates in sparid aquaculture. Anoplodiscus cirrusspiralis has been recorded from cultured sparids in Australia, Japan, South Africa, and South Korea, and was implicated as a disease agent in fish from the former two countries. However, the discovery of A. cirrusspiralis on Chrysoblephus gibbiceps (Valenciennes), Ch. laticeps (Valenciennes) and Cymatoceps nasutus (Castelnau) in South Africa, ?Pagrus major (Temminck & Schlegel) in South Korea, and P. auratus (Forster) in Australia, New Zealand and Japan suggests that this species may have a wide distribution and low host-specificity within the Sparidae. In South Africa, A. cirrusspiralis was first encountered on a morbid C. nasutus and Ch. gibbiceps from two public aquaria in 2009 (Two Oceans Aquarium, Cape Town and uShaka Sea World, Durban, respectively). Additional material was collected from C. laticeps kept at an abalone farm in Hermanus that originated from Struisbaai on the South African south coast. Anoplodiscus cirrusspiralis is redescribed from the South African specimens. This is the first record of a member of Anoplodiscidae Tagliani, 1912 from Africa.
