Neoskrjabinolepis (Neoskrjabinolepis) yanchevi n. sp. is described from common shrews Sorex araneus L. (Eulipotyphla: Soricidae) from Pirin Mts., Bulgaria (type-locality) and Russia (Arkhangelskaya Oblast'). The new species is characterised by ten rostellar hooks 37-40 μm long and possessing claw-like blades with crooked middle parts and well-developed epiphyseal thickenings of handles; a whip-shaped cirrus, 80-100 μm long, consisting of basal region with numerous small, rosethorn-shaped spines, and middle and distal regions armed with fine, needle-shaped spines; vagina provided with sphincter close to its orifice, with copulatory and conductive part not clearly distinct from one another; 40-50 eggs per gravid uterus. The species is differentiated from the remaining 4 species of the nominotypical subgenus of the genus Neoskrjabinolepis, which are parasites of the Palaearctic shrews of the genus Sorex.

Armadolepis (Armadolepis) spasskyi Tenora & Barus, 1958 is redescribed on the basis of the type-series consisting of the holotype from the garden dormouse Eliomys quercinus (Linnaeus) (type-host) and a paratype from the forest dormouse Dryomys nitedula (Pallas); the occurrence of this species in the fat dormouse Glis glis (Linnaeus) cannot be confirmed due to the lack of specimens from this host species both in the type-series and other studied samples. The main corrections in the diagnostic characters of A. spasskyi are related to the number and length of the rostellar hooks (12 hooks, 12–14 µm long versus 16–19 hooks, 15.3–17.1 µm long in the original description) and the position of the testes in triangle (versus in line as originally described). Specimens originally identified as Hymenolepis myoxi (Rudolphi, 1819) by Genov (1984) from the fat dormouse G. glis from Bulgaria are described as Armadolepis (Bremserilepis) genovi n. sp. The new species differs from the congeners by the presence of a rudimentary rostellum and rudimentary rostellar hooks; the new species differs from the other two species of the subgenus, A. (B.) myoxi and A. (B.) longisoma, by its longer cirrus-sac (196–240 µm), scolex diameter of 180–300 µm (wider than that of A. myoxi and narrower than that of A. longisoma) and wider ovary (220–310 µm). Cestodes previously reported as Hymenolepis myoxi from E. quercinus from Switzerland and France (western and north-western Alps) are now identified as Armadolepis (A.) jeanbaeri Makarikov, 2017. Cestodes from G. glis from Switzerland and Slovakia, previously identified as Hymenolepis sulcata (von Linstow, 1879), are now identified as Armadolepis (B.) myoxi (sensu stricto). The position of Hymenolepis (s.l.) sciurina Cholodkovsky, 1913 as a subspecies of A. myoxi is rejected and it is considered a species inquirenda.

Diorchis thracica n. sp. (Cestoda, Cyclophyllidea, Hymenolepididae) is described from the ruddy shelduck Tadorna ferruginea (Pallas) (Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae), collected in the vicinities of Radnevo, Stara Zagora Region, Bulgaria. The new species is differentiated from other members of Diorchis Clerc, 1903 by possessing rostellar hooks with length of 36 µm, a thick-walled cirrus-sac with strong longitudinal muscular fibres in its middle part and a copulatory vagina with two sphincters. Main morphological criteria for distinguishing species of the genus Diorchis are discussed.

Based on a re-examination of type-specimens of Filaria hyalina von Linstow, 1890 from Sorex araneus L. (Mammalia: Soricidae) and morphological studies (light and scanning electron microscopy) of specimens collected from the same host species in Bulgaria and previously identified as Stammerinema rhopalocephalum (Sołtys, 1952), both these forms are considered to be conspecific. Accordingly, F. hyalina is transferred to the genus Stammerinema Osche, 1955 as Stammerinema hyalinum n. comb. and the species originally described as Synhimantus rhopalocephalus Sołtys, 1952 is considered its junior synonym.

Quazithelazia rostrata n. sp. from Ceyx erithaca (L.) (type-host) and Alcedo euryzona Temminck (Coraciiformes, Alcedinidae) and Q. alata n. sp. from Enicurus ruficapillus Temminck (Passeriformes, Muscicapidae) are described from vicinities of Gombak Biological Station, Selangor, Malaysia; both species are parasitic under the koilin lining of the gizzard. Paratypes of Schistogendra pelargopsis Nandi, De & Majumdar, 1985, a parasite of Pelargopsis capensis (L.) (Alcedinidae) from India, are redescribed and the species is recognised as a junior synonym of the type-species of Quasithelazia, Q. tenuis Maplestone, 1932 (new synonymy), a species originally described from Halcyon smyrnensis (L.) (Alcedinidae) in India. An amended diagnosis of the genus Quasithelazia Maplestone, 1932 is proposed. Currently, this genus includes eight species occurring in the Old World, six of them parasitic in kingfishers (Alcedinidae) and two species parasitic in flycatchers (Muscicapidae). These include, inter alia, Q. halcyoni n. comb. for Viktorocara halcyoni Ryzhikov & Khokhlova, 1964 from Halcyon smyrnensis and H. pileata (Boddaert) in Vietnam and the Russian Far East, Q. microcordonis n. comb. for Rusguniella microcordonis Schmidt & Kuntz, 1971 from Halcyon coromanda major (Temminck & Schlegel) in Taiwan and Q. multipapillata n. comb. for Schistogendra multipapillata Zhang, 1993 from Tarsiger cyanurus (Pallas) (Muscicapidae) in China. Comparative morphological data for Quasithelazia spp. are presented. Schistogendra oligopapillata Zhang & An, 2002 from domestic ducks in China is considered a species incertae sedis.

Nine specimens of Apus affinis (J.E. Gray) were studied at Franceville, Haut-Ogooue Province, Republic of Gabon, for the presence of helminth parasites. Two cestode species of the family Dilepididae were recorded. Pseudangularia gonzalezi n. sp. is distinguished from the most similar species P. europaea Georgiev & Murai, 1993 by having elliptical cirrus-sac, longer vagina, longer rostellar sheath and greater diameter of suckers. An identification key to the species of the genus Pseudangularia Burt, 1938 is proposed. The present study is the first record of the genus Pseudangularia in the Afrotropical Region. Our study confirms that, in dilepidids with vaginal sclerites from swifts, breaking off the cirrus after copulation is a frequent phenomenon. The genus Gibsonilepis n. g. is erected as monotypic for Vitta swifti Singh, 1952 (originally described from the same host species in India) and Gibsonilepis swifti n. comb. is proposed. Gibsonilepis n. g. is distinguished from Vitta Burt, 1938 by its highly elongate rostellum, rostellar sheath much bigger than rostellum, relatively small rostellar hooks possessing strongly developed guard, disc-shaped suckers with weak peripheral musculature and flat or convex central part, long and well-expressed neck, highly lobed two-winged ovary (lobes rounded) and presence of a band consisting of rows of spine-like microtriches along posterior margin of each proglottis. This is the first record of G. swifti in the Afrotropical Region. The separation of G. swifti from the genus Vitta (parasites of swallows) suggests that, contrary to previous opinions, no dilepidid genera are shared by Apodidae (swifts) and Hirundinidae (swallows).

Metacercariae of two species of Posthodiplostomum Dubois, 1936 (Digenea: Diplostomidae) were subjected to morphological and molecular studies: P. brevicaudatum (von Nordmann, 1832) from Gasterosteus aculeatus (L.) (Gasterosteiformes: Gasterosteidae), Bulgaria (morphology, cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and Perca fluviatilis L. (Perciformes: Percidae), Czech Republic (morphology, cox1, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and 28S); and P. centrarchi Hoffman, 1958 from Lepomis gibbosus (L.) (Perciformes: Centrarchidae), Bulgaria (morphology, cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and Slovakia (cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2). In addition, cercariae of P. cuticola (von Nordmann, 1832) from Planorbis planorbis (L.) (Mollusca: Planorbidae), Lithuania (morphology and cox1) and metacercariae of Ornithodiplostomum scardinii (Schulman in Dubinin, 1952) from Scardinius erythrophthalmus (L.) (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae), Czech Republic, were examined (morphology, cox1, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and 28S). These represent the first molecular data for species of Posthodiplostomum and Ornithodiplostomum Dubois, 1936 from the Palaearctic. Phylogenetic analyses based on cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, using O. scardinii as the outgroup and including the three newly-sequenced Posthodiplostomum spp. from Europe and eight published unidentified (presumably species-level) lineages of Posthodiplostomum from Canada confirmed the distinct status of the three European species (contrary to the generally accepted opinion that only P. brevicaudatum and P. cuticola occur in the Palaearctic). The subspecies Posthodiplostomum minimum centrarchi Hoffmann, 1958, originally described from North America, is elevated to the species level as Posthodiplostomum centrarchi Hoffman, 1958. The undescribed "Posthodiplostomum sp. 3" of Locke et al. (2010) from centrarchid fishes in Canada has identical sequences with the European isolates of P. centrarchi and is recognised as belonging to the same species. The latter parasite, occurring in the alien pumpkinseed sunfish Lepomis gibbosus in Europe, is also supposed to be alien for this continent. It is speculated that it colonised Europe long ago and is currently widespread (recorded in Bulgaria, Slovakia and Spain); based on the cox1 sequence of an adult digenean isolate from the Ebro Delta, Spain, only the grey heron (Ardea cinerea L.) (Ciconiiformes: Ardeidae) is known to be its definitive host in Europe.

Acuaria europaea n. sp. is described from one Dendrocopos syriacus (Hemprich & Ehrenberg) (Piciformes: Picidae) (type-host) and three Oriolus oriolus (L.) (Passeriformes: Oriolidae) in Bulgaria (type-locality) and France. The new species is characterised by cordons extending slightly beyond the level of the anterior end of the glandular oesophagus, left spicule 297 µm long, right spicule 155 µm long, protruding vulvar region and strongly ventrally curved female tail. The male (holotype) and the female (allotype) of A. parorioli Chabaud & Petter, 1961 from O. oriolus are regarded as not being conspecific based on the differing morphology of their cordons; the female is identified as A. europaea n. sp. The type-material of Acuaria attenuata (Rudolphi, 1819) is redescribed. The species is characterised by a small and delicate body, cordons extending beyond the oesophago-intestinal junction and similar spicules in size and shape, 140 µm long. The only type-material of Acuaria anthuris (Rudolphi, 1819) available for examination consists of a male and a female (syntypes) from O. oriolus. The two specimens differ from one another by the relative lengths of their cordons and we consider them as belonging to two species. However, both type-specimens differ in their much shorter cordons from the species of Acuaria parasitising Corvidae. The present study reveals that the original description of A. anthuris has been based on heterogeneous material.

Pelecanema n. g. is erected for P. sirry (Khalil, 1931) n. comb., syn. Synhimantus sirry Khalil, 1931 (type-species) and P. pelecani (Johnston & Mawson, 1942) n. comb., syn. Dispharynx pelecani Johnston & Mawson, 1942. In the structure of its cordons, consisting of two rows of delicate cuticular plates, the new genus is similar to Synhimantus Railliet, Henry & Sisoff, 1912, Dispharynx Railliet, Henry & Sisoff, 1912, Chordatortilis Machado de Mendonca & Olivera de Rodrigues, 1965 and Parachordatortilis Mutafchiev, Santoro & Georgiev, 2010. Pelecanemasirry, a parasite of Pelecanus onocrotalus L. and P. crispus Bruch (Pelecaniformes, Pelecanidae) in Africa (Egypt and Senegal) and Europe (Ukraine and Bulgaria), is redescribed using light and scanning electron microscopy on the basis of specimens from P. crispus from Bulgaria. Pelecanema pelecani, a parasite of Pelecanus conspicillatus Temminck in Australia, is also redescribed using light microscopy on the basis of specimens from its type-host and type-locality. In contrast to a previous opinion recognising Pelecanema sirry and P. pelecani as synonyms, the two species are considered distinct and P. pelecani is validated.

Syncuaria mackoi n. sp. is described, based on light and scanning electron microscopy, from the stomach of the black stork Ciconia nigra in Bulgaria. The new species is characterised by: body length 7.18-8.30 mm (males) and 10.13-11.40 mm (females); cordons anastomosing about the level of the middle of the muscular oesophagus and consisting of delicate cuticular plates; bifurcate deirids 7-9 mum long; lateral longitudinal cuticular band-like swellings; nine pairs of pedunculate caudal papillae, i.e. four precloacal and five postcloacal, the latter forming two groups (2 + 3); sixth pair of postcloacal papillae sessile; left spicule 854-907 mum long; right spicule 138-154 mum in length, with a curved distal end resembling a horn and a short lateral projection at some distance from its tip; and vagina vera provided with an anteriorly-directed blind appendix. The specimens identified as S. ciconiae (Gil'bert, 1927) by Macko (1964) from C. nigra in Slovakia are considered as belonging to S. mackoi. A pair of small cupolae situated dorsally and ventrally between bases of cordons of the new species is described for the first time in this genus; they are recognised as homologous to the pair of spines in the same position previously described in S. diacantha Petter, 1961 and S. plegadisi Digiani, 1999.

Three cestode species are recorded from Podiceps auritus at Lake Myvatn, Iceland: Tatria minor Kowalewski, 1904 (Amabiliidae), Confluaria furcifera (Krabbe, 1869) and C. islandica n. sp. (Hymenolepididae). C. islandica n. sp. is described on the basis of specimens reported by Baer (1962) as 'Hymenolepis capillaris (Krabbe, 1869)' and newly-collected specimens. It is unique among Confluaria spp. in having: a muscular, thick-walled genital atrium with its proximal end divided into male and female canals; distinct microtriches covering the surface of the rhynchus; and a short, cylindrical cirrus. The shape and the total length of the rostellar hooks are most similar to those of C. capillaris (Rudolphi, 1810), but differ in having a long handle and a relatively small epiphyseal thickening rather than a short handle and the large epiphyseal thickening. The allopatry of the NE Atlantic population of P. auritus is believed to have been a prerequisite for the formation of its specific helminth fauna. Both C. furcifera and T. minor are recorded for the first time in Iceland.

Two species of Monopylidium Fuhrmann, 1899 are redescribed on the basis of specimens from their type-hosts: M. exiguum (Dujardin, 1845) from Troglodytes troglodytes L. (Passeriformes: Troglodytidae) on the Curonian Spit, Kaliningradskaya Oblast’, Russia, and M. albani (Mettrick, 1958) n. comb. (originally Paricterotaenia albani Mettrick, 1958) from Sturnus vulgaris L. (Passeriformes: Sturnidae) in the Canton of Jura, Switzerland. In contrast to the previously proposed synonymy of these two species (Spasskaya & Spasskii, 1977), they are recognised as distinct and M. albani is revalidated.

The genus Aphalloides Dollfus, Chabaud & Golvan, 1957 consists of two species parasitic in the body cavity of sand gobies. Its systematic position in the superfamily Opisthorchioidea Looss, 1899 is unresolved and it has been placed by various authors in three families, i.e. Cryptogonimidae Ward, 1917, Heterophyidae Leiper, 1909 and Opisthorchiidae Looss, 1899. Its type-species, Aphalloides coelomicola Dollfus, Chabaud & Golvan, 1957, is here reported from the Caucasian dwarf goby Knipowitschia caucasica (Berg) in the lagoon Atanasovsko Lake, Black Sea coast of Bulgaria (new geographical record). The species is redescribed based on light and scanning electron microscopy demonstrating some characters typical for the Cryptogonimidae but also characters distinguishing it from the other genera of the family such as the lack of tegumental spines and the presence of a short excretory vesicle, which does not extend into the forebody. Phylogenetic analysis of the D2-D3 expansion segments of the 28S rRNA gene suggests phylogenetic relationships of Aphalloides coelomicola with the cryptogonimid Centrovarium lobotes (MacCallum, 1895). These data support the affiliation of the genus Aphalloides to the family Cryptogonimidae. The peculiar morphology of the species in the genus is explained by their unusual life-cycles characterised by progenetic development; sand gobies being simultaneously second intermediate and definitive hosts.

The type-species of Monosertum Bona, 1994, M. parinum (Dujardin, 1845), is redescribed on the basis of the neotype designated by Bona (1994). M. mariae (Mettrick, 1958) n. comb. (originally Paricterotaenia mariae Mettrick, 1958) is recorded and redescribed from Erithacus rubecula L. (Passeriformes: Turdidae) in the Kaliningradskaya Oblast', Russia (new geographical record). An amended generic diagnosis of Monosertum is presented.

The type series of Progynotaenia evaginata Fuhrmann, 1909 from Burhinus senegalensis in Sudan, P. foetida Meggitt, 1928 from B. oedicnemus in Egypt and Angularia australis Maplestone, 1921 from B. grallarius in Australia are redescribed. As a comparative material, specimens of P. evaginata from B. oedicnemus in Kazakhstan were studied. The type-series of P. evaginata and P. foetida were found to be heterogeneous due to the presence of scoleces and fragments of cestodes of the genus Stenovaria Spasskii & Borgarenko, 1973 (Dilepididae). For P. foetida, a lectotype is designated. P. foetida is recognised as a synonym of P. evaginata (new synonymy). Angularia australis, previously considered a member of the Dilepididae, is transferred to the Progynotaeniidae as a synonym of P. evaginata (new synonymy). The synonymy of P. indica Johri, 1963 with P. evaginata, proposed by Ryzhikov & Tolkacheva (1981), is supported. The host range and the geographical distribution of P. evaginata are restricted to birds of the genus Burhinus from the Eastern Hemisphere.

Proyseria decora (Dujardin, 1845) (the type-species of the genus Proyseria Petter, 1959) is redescribed on the basis of specimens from Alcedo atthis (L.) (Coraciiformes: Alcedinidae) from Iran. P. petterae n. sp. is described from Corythornis vintsioides (Eydoux & Gervais) (Alcedinidae) from Madagascar by light and scanning electron microscopy. Proyseria sp. from Alcedo euryzona Temminck from continental Malaysia is described on the basis of a single male specimen. Stegophorus alcedonis Puqin, Yanyin & Guocal, 1991 from A. atthis in China is transferred to the genus Proyseria as P. alcedonis n. comb. The generic diagnosis of Proyseria is amended. Review of the species of the genera Proyseria and Stegophorus Wehr, 1934 is presented.

Redescriptions are presented of the type-materials of Parvirostrum reticulatum Fuhrmann, 1908 (type-species of Parvirostrum Fuhrmann, 1908) from Lepidocolaptes albolineatus (Passeriformes: Dendrocolaptidae) and of P. synallaxis (Mahon, 1957) n. comb. (syn. Deltokeras synallaxis Mahon, 1957) from Synallaxis rutilans (Passeriformes: Furnariidae), both from Brazil. P. linusi n. sp. is described from Dendrocolaptes platyrostris (Dendrocolaptidae) from Paraguay. It is characterised by a strobila up to 29 mm long, 50-56 triangular rostellar hooks (13-15 microm long) in two regular rows, irregularly-alternating genital pores, the variable position of the genital ducts relative to the osmoregulatory canals, 11-17 testes, a cirrus-sac 104-129 microm long, a cirrus armed with minute spines, elongate gravid proglottides and a uterine development which initially passes through a sac-like stage, followed by a sac-like stage with diverticula and finally through a reticulate stage. An incomplete description of Parvirostrum sp., based on contracted specimens from Lepidocolaptes angustirostris from Paraguay, is presented. The diagnosis of Parvirostrum is amended.

Redescriptions are provided of Confluaria podicipina (Szymanski, 1905) (specimens from Podiceps nigricollis and Tachybaptus ruficollis from Bulgaria) and C. furcifera (Krabbe, 1869) (syntypes from P. grisegena from Denmark and specimens from P. grisegena, P. nigricollis and T. ruficollis from Bulgaria). C. pseudofurcifera n. sp. is described from P. cristatus from Switzerland and Bulgaria. The previous records of C. furcifera from P. cristatus in Switzerland (Joyeux & Baer, 1950), Poland (Jarecka, 1958; Korpaczewska, 1960), Czech Republic (Rysavy & Sitko, 1995) and Baltic Coast (Galkin, 1986) are recognised as belonging to C. pseudofurcifera. Confluaria Ablasov in Spasskaya, 1966 is recognised as a valid genus and Dimorphocanthus Maksimova, 1989 is confirmed as its synonym. A key to the Palaearctic species of Confluaria is presented.

Chimaerula leonovi (Belogurov & Zueva, 1968) n. comb. (syns Liga leonovi, Himantaurus leonovi), a parasite of Charadrius spp. in the Palaearctic, is redescribed on the basis of specimens from C. alexandrinus (Aves, Charadriiformes, Charadriidae) from Bulgaria (new geographical record). The new material differs from the original description in some metrical characters: the general measurements of the strobila and the number of proglottides, and measurements of the scolex, rostellar sheath, cirrus-sac and copulatory vagina. The generic diagnosis of Chimaerula Bona, 1994 is amended in order to conform with the morphology of C. leonovi.

Saturnius papernai Overstreet, 1977 is recorded from the stomach of Mugil cephalus L. (Osteichthyes, Mugilidae) in the Black Sea (a new geographical record) off the southern part of the Bulgarian coast. The species is redescribed and figured on the basis of the Black Sea specimens. Some amendments to the generic diagnosis are proposed concerning the presence of a uterine seminal receptacle and a posterior (third) circular flange. It is proposed that the occurrence of S. papernai is a feature of one of the three shoals of M. cephalus in the Black Sea, i.e. the Balkan shoal. In a zoogeographical analysis, S. papernai is regarded as a Mediterranean immigrant, probably a characteristic element of only the South-Western Faunistic Region of the Black Sea. A review of the genus Saturnius Manter, 1969 is presented.

Paranoplocephala aquatica n. sp. is described from Arvicola terrestris and Ondatra zibethica (Rodentia, Cricetidae) in Bulgaria. The new species is characterised by a band-like strobila, a uterus forming a fine reticulate structure in the early stages of development, numerous testes (approximately 92) situated mainly aporally to the ovary in both the median and the aporal lateral fields, few testes positioned anterior to the ovary and genital ducts, the prominent asymmetrical situation of the female organs, the length of the vagina c. 0.65–0.68 of the length of the cirrus-sac, and the external seminal vesicle covered by a cellular sleeve. The new species is distinguished from P. ondatrae, P. macrocephala, P. dasymidis and P. sciuri. The specimens from O. zibethica reported as P. ondatrae by Tenora & Murai (1980) and as Aprostatandrya macrocephala by Spasskii et al. (1951) are believed to belong to P. aquatica. The type-series of P. ondatrae and P. macrocephala are redescribed and figured; metric data and an illustration of the holotype of P. sciuri are presented. The genus Paranoplocephala sensu Tenora et al. (1986) is regarded as a heterogeneous group because of the two patterns of uterine development in the species studied. Taxonomic criteria used for distinguishing the genera Andrya and Paranoplocephala, and some criteria applicable at the species level, are discussed.

Ardeirhynchus spiralis (Rudolphi, 1809) n. g., n. comb. (syns Echinorhynchus spiralis, Prosthorhynchus spiralis and Plagiorhynchus spiralis), a parasite of herons (Ciconiiformes: Ardeidae), is redescribed on the basis of the holotype from Ixobrychus minutus and specimens from Ardeola ralloides (new host record) in Bulgaria. A. spiralis is a member of the family Polymorphidae and not of the Plagiorhynchidae in which it was previously classified. Ardeirhynchus n. g. is distinguished from the most morphologically similar genus, Arhythmorhynchus Luhe, 1911, by the position of the male genital system, which occupies the posterior 1/8-1/6 part of the trunk, the distribution of hypodermal nuclei in groups in the anterior part and in lateral rows along the length of the posterior part of the trunk, a considerably shorter neck, minute trunk spines and a terminal genital pore.

Acuaria paraguayensis n. sp. is described on the basis of specimens from Sirystes sibilator (Vieillot) (Aves: Passeriformes, Tyrannidae) in Paraguay. In addition, A. mamillaris (Molin, 1860) from Cyanocorax cayanus (L.) (Corvidae) in Brazil is redescribed on the basis of its type-series from the collection of the Naturhistorisches Museum, Vienna. A review of the species of Acuaria Bremser, 1811 in the New World is presented. Currently, 16 species belong to this genus, which are mostly parasitic in passeriform birds (one record in piciform birds). An identification key to the species of Acuaria occurring in the New World is presented. Acuaria multispinosa (Vigueras, 1938) originally described from Botaurus lentiginosus (Rackett) (Ardeidae) in Cuba, also known from various herons (Ciconiiformes, Ardeidae) in southern states of the USA, does not correspond to the generic diagnosis of Acuaria and is considered a species incertae sedis. Acuaria gracilis var. sturni Boyd, 1951 is elevated to full species rank as Acuaria sturni Boyd, 1951.

The type-specimens of Anomaloporus hesperiphonae Voge & Davis, 1953 (type-species of Anomaloporus) from Coccothraustes abeillei (Passeriformes) and A. lambi Voge & Davis, 1953 from Streptoprocne semicollaris (Apodiformes), both from Mexico, are re-examined. The former species is considered a synonym of Orthoskrjabinia conica (Fuhrmann, 1908) (new synonymy) and, consequently, Anomaloporus is regarded as a junior synonym of Orthoskrjabinia Spassky, 1947. The latter species is recognised as valid under the name Anonchotaenia (Anonchotaenia) lambi (Voge & Davis, 1953) n. comb. Orthoskrjabinia rostellata (Rodgers, 1941) and Multiuterina dubininae Mathevossian, 1969, previously believed to be probable synonyms of O. conica, are considered species inquirendae.

Decorataria magnilabiata (Molin, 1860) n. comb. is proposed for Dispharagus magnilabiatus Molin, 1860 [= Acuaria (Cheilospirura) magnilabiata (Molin, 1860) Railliet, Henry & Sisoff, 1912; Cheilospirura magnilabiata (Molin, 1860) Stiles & Hassall, 1920; Dispharynx magnilabiata (Molin, 1860) Gendre, 1920] (Nematoda, Spirurida, Acuariidae), a parasite of the roseate spoonbill Platalea ajaja L. (Ciconiiformes, Threskiornithidae) known from Brazil, France (bird in captivity), Argentina and Cuba. The species is redescribed and illustrated on the basis of the type-series (from Brazil) in the Helminthological Collection of the Naturhistorisches Museum, Vienna. Syncuaria diacantha Petter, 1961 [= Decorataria diacantha (P.) Skryabin, Sobolev & Ivashkin, 1965], originally described from Platalea ajaja in France (bird in captivity), is recognised as a junior synonym of Decorataria magnilabiata (new synonymy).
