Its distribution, informal conservation status, phenology, and morphological and anatomical affinities with its closest relative, Nissolia klugii, are discussed. In addition, a new combination, Nissolia subulata is proposed. A key to the Brazilian species of Nissolia is presented. Eriosema macrostipulatum, a noteworthy new species from Goias State, was discovered during a taxonomic study of the genus in Brazil. It is herein described, illustrated, and has its morphological and anatomical affinities with related species presented. The geographical distribution, conservation status, and information about flowering and fruiting are provided. Additionally, a dichotomous key to the taxa of Eriosema that occur in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, Alto Paraiso de Goias municipality (Goias State) is provided.

The previous infrageneric classification of Mucuna (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae) recognized two subgenera, M. subg. Mucuna and M. subg. Stizolobium, but that classification is not supported fully by molecular phylogenetic analyses, which reveal three main clades in Mucuna (rather than the traditional two). A new taxon M. subg. Macrocarpa is proposed based on the results of a molecular phylogenetic analysis, supported by fruit characters and biogeography. Historically, the representatives of this new subgenus were considered as members of M. subg. Mucuna, but species of subgenus Macrocarpa differ from species of the other two subgenera by their longer ovaries containing a higher number of ovules and, consequently, longer pods containing more seeds, and by the different fruit length to width ratio. Zornia melanocarpa, a new species of Leguminosae (Papilionoideae, Dalbergieae) from Serra do Espinhaco, Minas Gerais, Brazil, is described and illustrated. The species is characterized by black fruits with white hairs and an absence of bristles, characters unique within the genus. The species is morphologically similar to Z. crinita and Z. hebecarpa, but differs from both by having a shorter inflorescence of 1.2–4 cm (vs. 10–20 and 8–20 cm in Z. crinita and Z. hebecarpa, respectively) and in the size of the plant (7–16 cm vs. 20–60 cm in Z. crinita and Z. hebecarpa), in addition to the black fruits with white hairs. A phylogenetic analysis using molecular data from the nuclear rDNA ITS gene region was performed to verify its position within the genus. Additionally, a survey of leaflet secretory structures and a micro-morphological analysis of fruit structures using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed for the newly described species.
