In an effort to understand the fauna of edaphic mites of the genus Lasioseius Berlese (Blattisociidae) from Brazil, a new species was found and it is here described as Lasioseius biota Barros & Castilho sp. nov. It is rather unusual among the Lasioseius species for having dorsal setae mostly bacillate or saber- to leaf-shapped. The other species considered in this paper is Lasioseius meridionalis Chant, morphologically known only from the original description, based solely on the holotype female (from USA). Information resulting from the reexamination of the holotype and on females collected from Brazil is provided. This is the first record of this species in Brazil. With this publication, the total number of Lasioseius species reported from Brazil adds to 19 and a key for the separation of females of these species is provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ten Opilioacaridae species from the genera Caribeacarus and Neocarus are found in subterranean habitats in Brazil, and several new species are waiting to be described. As part of our studies on cave opilioacarid species, two new species from Peruaçu Caves National Park, Minas Gerais state, are described in the present paper. The two new species present six or more d type setae on the palp, with a stout and rounded lobe: Neocarus chimerasp.nov. with 6 to 9 setae and Neocarus peruassusp.nov. presents 6 or 7 foliate setae (d1). The combination of these characters is a transitional state observed between Neocarus (4 to 9 foliate d type setae on palp, with a stout and rounded lobe) and Caribeacarus (8 to 12 foliate d type setae on palp, with a fine and pointed lobe). Nasal mites of the family Rhinonyssidae are parasites living in the respiratory system of birds. To date there were no record of these mites from representatives of the order Procellariiformes, a numerous grouping of exclusively marine birds that includes albatrosses, petrels, storm-petrels and shearwaters. The paper describes two new species of the genus Rhinonyssus from shearwaters (Procellariidae) found on various shores of Brazil: Rhinonyssus borealissp. nov. from Calonectris borealis (Cory's shearwater) and R. procellaricussp. nov. from Puffinus puffinus (Manx shearwater) and Ardenna gravis (Great shearwater). Both described mites are characterized by a large elliptical body and a relatively large and strongly sclerotized with the well-developed caudal extension. Rhinonyssus borealissp. nov. and R. procellaricussp. nov. are similar in their general appearance to each other but differ in the size of idiosoma, shape of podosomal and sternal shields and leg chaetotaxy. Of the 35 species of Premicrodispus described, only P. adjacens (Mahunka, 1969a) was recorded in the Neotropical region, specifically from Brazil. In the present paper, we describe a new species of Premicrodispus (P.) Cross, 1965 (Acari: Heterostigmatina: Microdispidae) from Brazil. The stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), is one of the main pests of livestock in Brazil, especially in areas where cattle is raised next to sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) fields in which vinasse is used as a fertilizer. Knowledge about the predatory mites associated with this parasite in the field may be helpful in designing programs to control it biologically. Mites of the family Macrochelidae are known to attack fly immatures, and thus could be helpful in reducing the population of the stable fly in the field. The aim of this paper is to report the macrochelid species found in surveys conducted in northwestern São Paulo state, where the fly is known to be present, including a new species here described, Holostaspella paulista Borges & Azevedo sp. nov., to provide complementary descriptions of the other species collected, and to present a key to the caelata group of Holostaspella. In total, 2,946 macrochelid specimens were collected from 264 samples of soil-litter or soil-cow obtained from two areas of sugarcane plantations, a pasture area and a disturbed patch of the Atlantic Forest in 2018 and 2019. Two new diptilomiopid mite species of the genus Davisella Amrine, Stasny et Flechtmann are described from arboreal Meliaceae of economic potential from Bahia state, Northeastern Brazil—Davisella toonaesp. nov. from the exotic tree Toona ciliata M. Roem., and Davisella cedrelaesp. nov. from the native tree Cedrela odorata L. The two new species are vagrants on lower leaflets surfaces, and no apparent damage to the host plant was observed. Most of the nine species of the genus previously described were collected from the Americas and/or associated with dicotyledons. A new species of Neocarus is described from adult female and male specimens collected from an epigean and hypogean ferruginous geosystem located in southeast Brazil. The new species, Neocarus congadosp. nov., is an atypical species with the male expressing dimorphic characters in the chelicera, palp and dorsal shield, through setae with different shapes and often in clusters with a dense set of setae. A new feather mite species Genoprotolichus tilaesp. nov. is described from the white-eyed parakeet, Psittacara leucophthalmus (Müller PLS, 1776) (Psittaciformes: Psittacidae), from Brazil. A list of pterolichid mite genera associated with parrots (Prittaciformes) is presented, and data on Genoprotolichus species recorded from the New World are summarized. Fifteen species of Agistemus Summers were previously reported from Brazil. Herein, Agistemus bahiensissp. nov. is described and illustrated from specimens collected on Annona muricata L. (Annonaceae), Euterpe oleracea Mart. and Polyandrococos caudescens (Mart.) Barb. Rodr. (Arecaceae) at the Southern Coastal Region of the state of Bahia, Brazil, between April 2007 and August 2017. The new species mainly differs from all other similar species by having a pattern of longitudinal striae as a band of dashes on the hysterosomal shield. It can also be distinguished by the dorsal setae measurements and the distances between them, being all dorsal setae of equal size in the new species (22–29), except for ve, which exceeds 30 (29–35), with none of them reaching the bases of the subsequent setae. Dorsal setae are always greater than 30 and ve is always greater than 55 (56–80) in the other five similar species. A key to Brazilian species of the genus is provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spider mite surveys conducted in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, allowed us to provide the redescription of Tetranychus armipenis Flechtmann & Baker (Tetranychidae) from specimens collected on native plant species from Pampa biome, Rio Grande do Sul state. A new species of spider mite, Aponychus mauritianumsp. nov. is described and illustrated based on specimens collected from Solanum mauritianum Scop. (Solanaceae) in the municipality of Lajeado in the same state. New hosts for Atrichoproctus uncinatus Flechtmann and Schizotetranychus oryzae Rossi de Simons are also reported. Proctotydaeus (Acari: Iolinidae) species live in bird nests, insect colonies, plants and barn straw, and comprise 17 species belonging to four subgenera. Here, we report three new species of Proctotydaeus mites living inside stingless bee colonies in Brazil. The Tarsonemidae (Acari: Prostigmata) exhibit a high diversity of feeding habits and morphological structures, which allow them to live in a diversity of habitats. Tarsonemus is the largest genus, with more than 280 described species belonging to three subgenera: Tarsonemus sensu stricto, Chaetotarsonemus and Schaarschmidtia. Eight species of the genus have been reported from Brazil. In addition, there are two new species, Tarsonemus cacaosp. nov. from Theobroma cacao L. (Malvaceae) branches, and Tarsonemus bahiensissp. nov. from Passiflora foetida L. (Passifloraceae) and Etlingera elatior Jack (Zingiberaceae) leaves. Both new species were collected in a cabruca agroforest, a traditional cacao cultivation system in the southern coast region of Bahia state. The new Tarsonemidae are described and illustrated here. The female, male and larva of a new species of Scutacarus Gros, 1845 (Acari: Heterostigmatina: Scutacaridae) and male and larva of Petalomium megasolenidiatum Silva, Khaustov & Oliveira, 2018a (Neopygmephoridae) are described. Four new species of eriophyoid mites (Acari: Trombidiformes: Eriophyoidea) were collected from native plant species from Pampa biome, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and are described and illustrated herein. They have been named: Aculus pampae sp. nov. on Elephantopus mollis Kunth (Asteraceae); Costarectus lanceatus sp. nov. on Sebastiania brasiliensis Spreng. (Euphorbiaceae); Dichopelmus sigfeminae sp. nov. and Rhynacus symflori sp. nov. both on Symplocos uniflora (Pohl) Benth. (Symplocaceae).
