Pyrene-terminated dendrimers with esters as branching points have been constructed from S-(−)-1,1′-binaphthol as the central core unit utilizing carbodiimide coupling. The chiro-optical properties of the dendrimers reveal that the specific rotation decreases from original to first generation. The photophysical properties of the dendrimers synthesized shows monomeric emission. Supplemental materials are available for this article. The syntheses of various types of 1,2,3-triazole-based dendrimers 1–4 with sugar pyranosylazides and N-ethyl and N-heptylazides as a surface unit and benzene-1,3,5-tricorboxlyic amide as core unit through click chemistry approach are described. The synthesis of 2,7-bridged dicationic fluorenophanes consisting of benzimidazole, imidazole, and benzotriazole units and their absorption, photoluminescence, and electrochemical behavior are described.

Synthesis of 1,2,3-triazole-based dendritic architectures bearing a chalcone unit at the surface group has been achieved through a click reaction by the convergent synthetic strategy, in which tri- and tetra-azide were used as core units.

Reaction of 2′‐amido‐m‐terphenyl with NaOH and Br2 gave substituted phenanthridinone instead of undergoing rearrangement to give acetamido‐m‐terphenyl. Thermolysis of 2′‐azido‐m‐terphenyl also gave the phenanthridinone in good yield. The synthesis of 2′‐m‐terphenyls was accomplished via Suzuki coupling.

Simultaneous de-O-xylylation and reductive coupling was observed when 1 equiv. of the dialdehyde 2a/2b was treated with 5 equiv. of each TiCl4 and Zinc which lead to the development of TiCl4 in dioxane as a new system for the facile deprotection of phenolic ethers 4a–4d, 5a–5d, and 6a–6c.

Reduction of 1,3-dialkyl benzotriazolium salts was carried out using NaH/THF. The methodology was applied for the synthesis of benzotriazolophane 2, which was intra annularly linked by p-xylenyl dibromide to give novel cyclophane 6 and reduction of benzotriazolophane 7 gave cyclophane 8.

Reaction of o-xylenyl dibromide with dipotassium salt of 2-nitro-1,1-ethanedithiol afforded nitroethylenophane 2. Similar strategy has been used for the synthesis of cyclophanes 7, 9 and 11.

Substituted m-terphenyl carboxylic acids of the type 1a–e were prepared by the tandem aryne sequence from substituted dihaloiodobenzenes with arylmagnesium bromide followed by quenching with CO2. The carboxylic acids 1a–e were converted into fluorenones 2a–e using either H2SO4 in CH3OH or PPA.

Cyclophanes of the type 1 & 3 are obtained by the coupling of suitable dithiol with corresponding dibromide under high dilution technique in the presence of KOH in benzene or toluene-ethanol. Few molecular transformations have been effected on the cyclophanes 1 and 2.

Cycloaddition of N-Benzoyl-4,5-diphenyl-2-strylimidazole to 2,5-dimethyl-3,4-diphenylcyclopentadienone, tetraphenylcyclopentadienone, 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran and tetraphenylcyclopentadiene afforded the substituted and hindered imidazoles 2a,2b,2c & 2d. The N-benzoyl styrylimidazole 4 derived from phenanthrenequinone, cinnamaldehyde and ammonium acetate also underwent similar cycloaddition.
