We investigated the influence of mental imagery expertise in 15 pen and paper role-players as an expert group compared to the gender-matched control group of computer role-players in the difficult Vandenberg and Kuse mental rotation task. In this task, the participants have to decide which two of four rotated figures match the target figure. The dependent measures were performance speed and accuracy. In our exploratory investigation, we further examined midline frontal theta band activation, parietal alpha band activation, and parietal alpha band asymmetry in EEG as indicator for the chosen rotation strategy. Additionally, we explored the gender influence on performance and EEG activation, although a very small female sample section was given. The expected gender difference concerning performance accuracy was negated by expertise in pen and paper role-playing women, while the gender-specific difference in performance speed was preserved. Moreover, gender differences concerning electro-cortical measures revealed differences in rotation strategy, with women using top-down strategies compared to men, who were using top-down strategies and active inhibition of associative cortical areas. These strategy uses were further moderated by expertise, with higher expertise leading to more pronounced activation patters, especially during successful performance. However, due to the very limited sample size, the findings of this explorative study have to be interpreted cautiously.

(1) Background: In a recent paper discussing Newton’s third law in the framework of special relativity for charged bodies, it was suggested that one can construct a practical relativistic motor provided high enough charge and current densities are available. As on the macroscopic scale charge density is limited by the phenomena of dielectric breakdown, it was suggested to take advantage of the high charge densities which are available on the microscopic scale. (2) Methods: We use standard physical theories such as Maxwell electrodynamics and quantum mechanics, supplemented by tools from vector analysis and numerics. (3) Results: We show that a hydrogen atom either in the ground state or excited state will not produce a relativistic engine effect, but by breaking the symmetry or putting the electron in a wave packet state may produce relativistic motor effect. (4) Conclusions: A highly localized wave packet will produce a strong relativistic motor effect. The preliminary analysis of the current paper suggests new promising directions of research both theoretical and experimental.

Most existing Siamese trackers mainly use a pre-trained convolutional neural network to extract target features. However, due to the weak discrimination of the target and background information of pre-trained depth features, the performance of the Siamese tracker can be significantly degraded when facing similar targets or changes in target appearance. This paper proposes a multi-channel-aware and adaptive hierarchical deep features module to enhance the discriminative ability of the tracker. Firstly, through the multi-channel-aware deep features module, the importance values of feature channels are obtained from both the target details and overall information, to identify more important feature channels. Secondly, by introducing the adaptive hierarchical deep features module, the importance of each feature layer can be determined according to the response value of each frame, so that the hierarchical features can be integrated to represent the target, which can better adapt to changes in the appearance of the target. Finally, the proposed two modules are integrated into the Siamese framework for target tracking. The Siamese network used in this paper is a two-input branch symmetric neural network with two input branches, and they share the same weights, which are widely used in the field of target tracking. Experiments on some Benchmarks show that the proposed Siamese tracker has several points of improvement compared to the baseline tracker.

Automatic segmentation of intracranial brain tumors in three-dimensional (3D) image series is critical in screening and diagnosing related diseases. However, there are various challenges in intracranial brain tumor images: (1) Multiple brain tumor categories hold particular pathological features. (2) It is a thorny issue to locate and discern brain tumors from other non-brain regions due to their complicated structure. (3) Traditional segmentation requires a noticeable difference in the brightness of the interest target relative to the background. (4) Brain tumor magnetic resonance images (MRI) have blurred boundaries, similar gray values, and low image contrast. (5) Image information details would be dropped while suppressing noise. Existing methods and algorithms do not perform satisfactorily in overcoming these obstacles mentioned above. Most of them share an inadequate accuracy in brain tumor segmentation. Considering that the image segmentation task is a symmetric process in which downsampling and upsampling are performed sequentially, this paper proposes a segmentation algorithm based on U-Net++, aiming to address the aforementioned problems. This paper uses the BraTS 2018 dataset, which contains MR images of 245 patients. We suggest the generative mask sub-network, which can generate feature maps. This paper also uses the BiCubic interpolation method for upsampling to obtain segmentation results different from U-Net++. Subsequently, pixel-weighted fusion is adopted to fuse the two segmentation results, thereby, improving the robustness and segmentation performance of the model. At the same time, we propose an auto pruning mechanism in terms of the architectural features of U-Net++ itself. This mechanism deactivates the sub-network by zeroing the input. It also automatically prunes GenU-Net++ during the inference process, increasing the inference speed and improving the network performance by preventing overfitting. Our algorithm’s PA, MIoU, P, and R are tested on the validation dataset, reaching 0.9737, 0.9745, 0.9646, and 0.9527, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model outperformed the contrast models. Additionally, we encapsulate the model and develop a corresponding application based on the MacOS platform to make the model further applicable.

Refining and reversing weighted arithmetic-geometric mean inequalities have been studied in many papers. In this paper, we provide some bounds for the differences between the weighted arithmetic and geometric means, using known inequalities. We improve the results given by Furuichi-Ghaemi-Gharakhanlu and Sababheh-Choi. We also give some bounds on entropies, applying the results in a different approach. We explore certain convex or concave functions, which are symmetric functions on the axis t=1/2.

This paper investigates a relativistic Toda lattice system with an arbitrary parameter that is a very remarkable generalization of the usual Toda lattice system, which may describe the motions of particles in lattices. Firstly, we study some integrable properties for this system such as Hamiltonian structures, Liouville integrability and conservation laws. Secondly, we construct a discrete generalized (m,2N−m)-fold Darboux transformation based on its known Lax pair. Thirdly, we obtain some exact solutions including soliton, rational and semi-rational solutions with arbitrary controllable parameters and hybrid solutions by using the resulting Darboux transformation. Finally, in order to understand the properties of such solutions, we investigate the limit states of the diverse exact solutions by using graphic and asymptotic analysis. In particular, we discuss the asymptotic states of rational solutions and exponential-and-rational hybrid solutions graphically for the first time, which might be useful for understanding the motions of particles in lattices. Numerical simulations are used to discuss the dynamics of some soliton solutions. The results and properties provided in this paper may enrich the understanding of nonlinear lattice dynamics.

A cable-stayed bridge is a typical symmetrical structure, and symmetry affects the deformation characteristics of such bridges. The main girder of a cable-stayed bridge will produce obvious deflection under the inducement of temperature. The regression model of temperature-induced deflection is hoped to provide a comparison value for bridge evaluation. Based on the temperature and deflection data obtained by the health monitoring system of a bridge, establishing the correlation model between temperature and temperature-induced deflection is meaningful. It is difficult to complete a high-quality model only by the girder temperature. The temperature features based on prior knowledge from the mechanical mechanism are used as the input information in this paper. At the same time, to strengthen the nonlinear ability of the model, this paper selects an independent recurrent neural network (IndRNN) for modeling. The deep learning neural network is compared with machine learning neural networks to prove the advancement of deep learning. When only the average temperature of the main girder is input, the calculation accuracy is not high regardless of whether the deep learning network or the machine learning network is used. When the temperature information extracted by the prior knowledge is input, the average error of IndRNN model is only 2.53%, less than those of BPNN model and traditional RNN. Combining knowledge with deep learning is undoubtedly the best modeling scheme. The deep learning model can provide a comparison value of bridge deformation for bridge management.

The paper aims to analyze the vibrations of a summing box, used in heavy vehicles. An experimental setup is proposed and used for the analysis of these vibrations transmitted by the box housing, based on the measurement of the mechanical impedance. It is then shown that a simpler measurement, namely that of the generated noise spectrum, can provide equally useful results, with less effort and in a shorter time. The experimental setup is much simpler, involving a sonometer arranged in the experimental assembly. The symmetry of the box allows us to facilitate the execution of the experimental assembly, and the use of the symmetrical structure to facilitate the calculation of vibrations. The results obtained using this method in the case of a redesigned adder box are presented in the paper.

Most of the papers published so far in literature have focused on the theoretical phenomena underlying the formation of chaos, rather than on the investigation of potential applications of chaos to the real world. This paper aims to bridge the gap between chaos theory and chaos applications by presenting a survey of very recent applications of chaos. In particular, the manuscript covers the last three years by describing different applications of chaos as reported in the literature published during the years 2018 to 2020, including the matter related to the symmetry properties of chaotic systems. The topics covered herein include applications of chaos to communications, to distributed sensing, to robotic motion, to bio-impedance modelling, to hardware implementation of encryption systems, to computing and to random number generation.

Increasingly, cities worldwide are striving for green travel and slow traffic, and vigorously developing people-oriented urban pedestrian traffic with sustainability has become a fixture in recent discourse. This paper comprehensively considers the sidewalk’s facilities environment and the status of pedestrian traffic flow; divides the urban pedestrian road system (UPRS) into five subsystems around the underpass, overpass, crosswalk, sidewalk, and road crosswalk; and introduces the basic structure as well as the function of each system. Then, the indicators are classified into two types of crosswalk facilities and sidewalk facilities, and a comprehensive pedestrian road indicator system with the combination of subjective and objective is established. Consequently, the integration of the fuzzy AHP and DEA-based symmetrical technique for the subjective evaluation indicator combined with pedestrian traffic characteristics is developed. A nine-step semantics scale of relative importance was used so that the symmetry of the response of pedestrian satisfaction was maintained. Fuzzy evaluation based on AHP is further modeled, and the DEA is employed to achieve an overall evaluation of the quality of service (QoS) for UPRS. The applicability of the established evaluation system is finally verified through a real case study in Harbin, China. The serviceability assessment method in this paper provides a new idea for planners to conduct sustainability evaluation for UPRS in future urban renewal development.

A review of experimental studies carried out at the NRC “Kurchatov Institute” on plasma-facing thermonuclear fusion reactor materials is presented in the paper. An experimental method was developed to produce high-level radiation damage in materials simulating the neutron effect by surrogate irradiation with high-energy ions. Plasma-surface interaction is investigated on materials irradiated to high levels of radiation damage in high-flux deuterium plasma. The total fluence of accelerated ions (3–30 MeV, 4He2+, 12C3+, 14N3+, protons) on the samples was 1021–1023 m−2. Experiments were carried out on graphite materials, tungsten, and silicon carbide. Samples have been obtained with a primary defect concentration from 0.1 to 100 displacements per atom, which covers the predicted damage for the ITER and DEMO projects. Erosion dynamics of the irradiated materials in steady-state deuterium plasma, changes of the surface microstructure, and deuterium retention were studied using SEM, TEM, ERDA, TDS, and nuclear backscattering techniques. The surface layer of the materials (3 to hundreds µm) was investigated, and it was shown that the changes in the crystal structure, the loss of their symmetry, and diffusion of defects to grain boundaries play an important role. The most significant results are presented in the paper as an overview of our previous work for many years (carbon and tungsten materials) as well as the relatively recent results (silicon carbide).

The aim of the present tutorial paper is to recall notions from manifold calculus and to illustrate how these tools prove useful in describing system-theoretic properties. Special emphasis is put on embedded manifold calculus (which is coordinate-free and relies on the embedding of a manifold into a larger ambient space). In addition, we also consider the control of non-linear systems whose states belong to curved manifolds. As a case study, synchronization of non-linear systems by feedback control on smooth manifolds (including Lie groups) is surveyed. Special emphasis is also put on numerical methods to simulate non-linear control systems on curved manifolds. The present tutorial is meant to cover a portion of the mentioned topics, such as first-order systems, but it does not cover topics such as covariant derivation and second-order dynamical systems, which will be covered in a subsequent tutorial paper.

In this paper, we define D-magic labelings for oriented graphs where D is a distance set. In particular, we label the vertices of the graph with distinct integers {1,2,…,|V(G)|} in such a way that the sum of all the vertex labels that are a distance in D away from a given vertex is the same across all vertices. We give some results related to the magic constant, construct a few infinite families of D-magic graphs, and examine trees, cycles, and multipartite graphs. This definition grew out of the definition of D-magic (undirected) graphs. This paper explores some of the symmetries we see between the undirected and directed version of D-magic labelings.

This paper studies the multi-depot joint distribution vehicle routing problem considering energy consumption with time-dependent networks (MDJDVRP-TDN). Aiming at the multi-depot joint distribution vehicle routing problem where the vehicle travel time depends on the variation characteristics of the road network speed in the distribution area, considering the influence of the road network on the vehicle speed and the relationship between vehicle load and fuel consumption, a multi-depot joint distribution vehicle routing optimization model is established to minimize the sum of vehicle fixed cost, fuel consumption cost and time window penalty cost. Traditional vehicle routing problems are modeled based on symmetric graphs. In this paper, considering the influence of time-dependent networks on routes optimization, modeling is based on asymmetric graphs, which increases the complexity of the problem. A hybrid genetic algorithm with variable neighborhood search (HGAVNS) is designed to solve the model, in which the nearest neighbor insertion method and Logistic mapping equation are used to generate the initial solution firstly, and then five neighborhood structures are designed to improve the algorithm. An adaptive neighborhood search times strategy is used to balance the diversification and depth search of the population. The effectiveness of the designed algorithm is verified through several groups of numerical instances with different scales. The research can enrich the relevant theoretical research of multi-depot vehicle routing problems and provide the theoretical basis for transportation enterprises to formulate reasonable distribution schemes.

In this paper, we consider convex multiobjective optimization problems with equality and inequality constraints in real Banach space. We establish saddle point necessary and sufficient Pareto optimality conditions for considered problems under some constraint qualifications. These results are motivated by the symmetric results obtained in the recent article by Cobos Sánchez et al. in 2021 on Pareto optimality for multiobjective optimization problems of continuous linear operators. The discussions in this paper are also related to second order symmetric duality for nonlinear multiobjective mixed integer programs for arbitrary cones due to Mishra and Wang in 2005. Further, we establish Karush–Kuhn–Tucker optimality conditions using saddle point optimality conditions for the differentiable cases and present some examples to illustrate our results. The study in this article can also be seen and extended as symmetric results of necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for vector equilibrium problems on Hadamard manifolds by Ruiz-Garzón et al. in 2019.

In order to play the important role of electric vehicles to promote the realization of the 3060 double carbon target, electric vehicles have seen explosive growth. However, due to the tight symmetry between the number and distribution of electric vehicles and their corresponding charging facilities, the layout of charging facilities has higher requirements. This paper collects travel data in the form of a traffic travel questionnaire for electric vehicle users. Based on the vehicle parking demand model of the queuing theory and Monte Carlo simulation, the paper gives the number of stopping vehicles and the time of vehicles stopping in different places such as residential areas, workplaces, supermarket parking and roadside. In addition, based on the Bass prediction model, the main parameters are modeled in the model, and the price correction coefficient is introduced. The improved Bass model is used to predict the growth trend of electric vehicles in different regions in different years and in different incentive sites. By predicting the ownership of urban electric vehicles and accurately grasping the distribution and operation of electric vehicles, this paper can provide guidance and suggestions for the planning and construction of charging facilities in different regions, effectively reduce the investment cost of charging facilities and guide local governments to formulate reasonable planning schemes.

Based on the current background of airport management and flight-gate scheduling in China, this paper takes Shanghai Pudong International Airport’s flight number of the rising and landing aircraft in a certain day as the research object, and it establishes an uncertain FGAP (Flight-Gate Assignment Problem) multi-objective programming model under the framework of uncertainty theory. Using genetic algorithm to solve the model, the specific flight-gate assignment scheduling plan is given. The research results show that the model in this paper can effectively alleviate the problems, such as unbalanced flight-gate allocation and excessive operating pressure of a single gate, in the conventional model, and make the allocation and scheduling more reasonable and efficient. Finally, we give the future application of uncertainty theory in finance and management, as well as the prospect of combining it with symmetry in physics.

In this paper, we present some ideas and concepts related to the k-fractional conformable integral operator for convex functions. First, we present a new integral identity correlated with the k-fractional conformable operator for the first-order derivative of a given function. Employing this new identity, the authors have proved some generalized inequalities of Hermite–Hadamard type via Hölder’s inequality and the power mean inequality. Inequalities have a strong correlation with convex and symmetric convex functions. There exist expansive properties and strong correlations between the symmetric function and various areas of convexity, including convex functions, probability theory, and convex geometry on convex sets because of their fascinating properties in the mathematical sciences. The results of this paper show that the methodology can be directly applied and is computationally easy to use and exact.

The implications of the end effect for flux linkage and thrust ripple in a slot-less long-stator permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (LSPMLSM), are analyzed in this paper. Since it is affected by the end effect, the air-gap magnetic field density under the end permanent magnet is different from that under the non-end permanent magnet, leading to asymmetry in the thrust ripple. For this reason, we establish a dynamic permanent magnet flux linkage model, which proves that the end effect leads to sub-harmonics in the permanent magnet flux linkage. The motor’s magnetic field distribution in the left and right parts is symmetrical. A thrust model taking into account the flux linkage sub-harmonics is established, from which the amplitude and period of the thrust ripple caused by the end effect can be calculated. There is no detent force for the slot-less LSPMLSM, and the end effect is the primary origin of the motor thrust ripple. In order to suppress the end effect, a method of increasing the end iron length is proposed, as a result of which the sub-harmonics in the flux linkage and the motor thrust ripple are effectively suppressed. Experimental and simulation results verify the results of this paper.

The notion of ordered semihyperrings is a generalization of ordered semirings and a generalization of semihyperrings. In this paper, the Galois connection between ordered semihyperrings are studied in detail and various interesting results are obtained. A construction of an ordered semihyperring via a regular relation is given. Furthermore, we present the Galois connection between homomorphisms and derivations on an ordered semihyperring. The notion of ordered semihyperrings is a generalization of ordered semirings and a generalization of semihyperrings. In this paper, the Galois connection between ordered semihyperrings are studied in detail and various interesting results are obtained. A construction of an ordered semihyperring via a regular relation is given. Furthermore, we present the Galois connection between homomorphisms and derivations on an ordered semihyperring.

Class imbalance, as a phenomenon of asymmetry, has an adverse effect on the performance of most machine learning and overlap is another important factor that affects the classification performance of machine learning algorithms. This paper deals with the two factors simultaneously, addressing the class overlap under imbalanced distribution. In this paper, a theoretical analysis is firstly conducted on the existing class overlap metrics. Then, an improved method and the corresponding metrics to evaluate the class overlap under imbalance distributions are proposed based on the theoretical analysis. A well-known collection of the imbalanced datasets is used to compare the performance of different metrics and the performance is evaluated based on the Pearson correlation coefficient and the ξ correlation coefficient. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed class overlap metrics outperform other compared metrics for the imbalanced datasets and the Pearson correlation coefficient with the AUC metric of eight algorithms can be improved by 34.7488% in average.

Conjectures on permanents are well-known unsettled conjectures in linear algebra. Let A be an n×n matrix and Sn be the symmetric group on n element set. The permanent of A is defined as perA=∑σ∈Sn∏i=1naiσ(i). The Merris conjectured that for all n×n doubly stochastic matrices (denoted by Ωn), nperA≥min1≤i≤n∑j=1nperA(j|i), where A(j|i) denotes the matrix obtained from A by deleting the jth row and ith column. Foregger raised a question whether per(tJn+(1−t)A)≤perA for 0≤t≤nn−1 and for all A∈Ωn, where Jn is a doubly stochastic matrix with each entry 1n. The Merris conjecture is one of the well-known conjectures on permanents. This conjecture is still open for n≥4. In this paper, we prove the Merris inequality for some classes of matrices. We use the sub permanent inequalities to prove our results. Foregger’s inequality is also one of the well-known inequalities on permanents, and it is not yet proved for n≥5. Using the concepts of elementary symmetric function and subpermanents, we prove the Foregger’s inequality for n=5 in [0.25, 0.6248]. Let σk(A) be the sum of all subpermanents of order k. Holens and Dokovic proposed a conjecture (Holen–Dokovic conjecture), which states that if A∈Ωn,A≠Jn and k is an integer, 1≤k≤n, then σk(A)≥(n−k+1)2nkσk−1(A). In this paper, we disprove the conjecture for n=k=4.

In this paper, algebraic relations were established that determined the invariance of a transformed number after several transformations. The restrictions that determine the group structure of these relationships were analyzed, as was the case of the Klein group. Parametric Kr functions associated with the existence of cycles were presented, as well as the role of the number of their links in the grouping of numbers in higher-order equivalence classes. For this, we developed a methodology based on binary equivalence relations and the complete parameterization of the Kaprekar routine using Ki functions of parametric transformation.

F-polynomials for virtual knots were defined by Kaur, Prabhakar and Vesnin in 2018 using flat virtual knot invariants. These polynomials naturally generalize Kauffman's affine index polynomial and use smoothing in classical crossing of a virtual knot diagram. In this paper we introduce weight functions for ordered orientable virtual and flat virtual link. A flat virtual link is an equivalence class of virtual links in respect to a local symmetry changing type of classical crossing in a diagram. By considering three types of smoothings in classical crossings of a virtual link diagram and suitable weight functions, we provide a recurrent construction for new invariants. The data space for audio signals is large, the correlation is strong, and the traditional encryption algorithm cannot meet the needs of efficiency and safety. To solve this problem, an audio encryption algorithm based on Chen memristor chaotic system is proposed. The core idea of the algorithm is to encrypt the audio signal into the color image information. Most of the traditional audio encryption algorithms are transmitted in the form of noise, which makes it easy to attract the attention of attackers. In this paper, a special encryption method is used to obtain higher security. Firstly, the Fast Walsh–Hadamar Transform (FWHT) is used to compress and denoise the signal. Different from the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), FWHT has good energy compression characteristics. In addition, compared with that of the triangular basis function of the Fast Fourier Transform, the rectangular basis function of the FWHT can be more effectively implemented in the digital circuit to transform the reconstructed dual-channel audio signal into the R and B layers of the digital image matrix, respectively. Furthermore, a new Chen memristor chaotic system solves the periodic window problems, such as the limited chaos range and nonuniform distribution. It can generate a mask block with high complexity and fill it into the G layer of the color image matrix to obtain a color audio image. In the next place, combining plaintext information with color audio images, interactive channel shuffling can not only weaken the correlation between adjacent samples, but also effectively resist selective plaintext attacks. Finally, the cryptographic block is used for overlapping diffusion encryption to fill the silence period of the speech signal, so as to obtain the ciphertext audio. Experimental results and comparative analysis show that the algorithm is suitable for different types of audio signals, and can resist many common cryptographic analysis attacks. Compared with that of similar audio encryption algorithms, the security index of the algorithm is better, and the efficiency of the algorithm is greatly improved.

The gas path system is an important part of an aero-engine, whose health states can affect the security of the airplane. During the process of aircraft operation, the gas path system will have different working conditions over time, owing to the change of control parameters. However, the different working conditions which change the symmetry of the system will affect parameters of the health state prediction model for the gas path system. The symmetry of the system will also change. Therefore, it is important to consider the influence of variable working conditions when predicting the health states of gas path system. The accuracy of the health state prediction results of the gas path system will be low if the same evaluation standard is used for different working conditions. In addition, the monitoring data of the gas path system’s health state feature quantity is huge while the fault data which can reflect the health states of the gas path system are poor. Thus, it is difficult to establish a health state prediction model only by using the monitoring data of the gas path system. In order to avoid problems, this paper proposes a health state prediction model considering multiple working conditions based on time domain analysis and a belief rule base. First, working condition is divided by using time domain characteristics. Then, a belief rule base (BRB) theory-based health state prediction model is built, which can fuse expert knowledge and fault monitoring data to improve modeling accuracy. The reference value of the feature is given by the fuzzy C-means algorithm in a model. To decrease the uncertainty of expert knowledge, the covariance matrix adaptive evolution strategy (CMA-ES) is used as the optimization algorithm. Finally, a NASA public dataset without labels is used to verify the proposed health state model. The results show that the proposed health prediction model of a gas path system can accurately realize health state prediction under multiple working conditions.

The multisource information fusion technique is currently one of the common methods for rolling bearing fault diagnosis. However, the current research rarely fuses information from the data of different sensors. At the same time, the dispersion itself in the VAE method has asymmetric characteristics, which can enhance the robustness of the system. Therefore, in this paper, the information fusion method of the variational autoencoder (VAE) and random forest (RF) methods are targeted for subsequent lifetime evolution analysis. This fusion method achieves, for the first time, the simultaneous monitoring of acceleration signals, weak magnetic signals and temperature signals of rolling bearings, thus improving the fault diagnosis capability and laying the foundation for subsequent life evolution analysis and the study of the fault–slip correlation. Drawing on the experimental procedure of the CWRU’s rolling bearing dataset, the proposed VAERF technique was evaluated by conducting inner ring fault diagnosis experiments on the experimental platform of the self-research project. The proposed method exhibits the best performance compared to other point-to-point algorithms, achieving a classification rate of 98.19%. The comparison results further demonstrate that the deep learning fusion of weak magnetic and vibration signals can improve the fault diagnosis of rolling bearings.

The aim of the present paper is the evaluation of the resonance half-widths of the first maximum for the probability of the total neutrino conversion in a medium. We consider the simplest case of two-neutrino mixing in matter with a constant refraction length. The results can be applied, for example, to studies of neutrino oscillations in the Earth’s mantle and elsewhere.

This paper suggests an approach to generate pseudo-random sequences based on the discrete-time model of the simple memristive chaotic system. We show that implementing Euler’s and Runge–Kutta’s methods for the simulation solutions gives the possibility of obtaining chaotic sequences that maintain general properties of the original chaotic system. A preliminary criterion based on the binary sequence balance estimation is proposed and applied to separate any binary representation of the chaotic time sequences into random and non-random parts. This gives us the possibility to delete obviously non-random sequences prior to the post-processing. The investigations were performed for arithmetic with both fixed and floating points. In both cases, the obtained sequences successfully passed the NIST SP 800-22 statistical tests. The utilization of the unidirectional asymmetric coupling of chaotic systems without full synchronization between them was suggested to increase the performance of the chaotic pseudo-random number generator (CPRNG) and avoid identical sequences on different outputs of the coupled systems. The proposed CPRNG was also implemented and tested on FPGA using Euler’s method and fixed-point arithmetic for possible usage in different applications. The FPGA implementation of CPRNG supports a generation speed up to 1.2 Gbits/s for a clock frequency of 50 MHz. In addition, we presented an example of the application of CPRNG to symmetric image encryption, but nevertheless, one is suitable for the encryption of any binary source.

In this paper we review the fundamental concepts of entropy bounds put forward by Bousso and its relation to the holographic principle. We relate covariant entropy with logarithmic distance of separation of nearby geodesics. We also give sufficient arguments to show that the origin of entropy bounds is not indeed thermodynamic, but statistical.

This paper presents an efficiency optimization controller for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) of an electric vehicle. A new loss model is obtained based on the permanent magnet synchronous motor’s energy balance equation utilizing the theory of the port-controlled Hamiltonian system. Since the energy balance equation is just the power loss of the PMSM, which provides great convenience for us to use the energy method for efficiency optimization. Then, a new loss minimization algorithm (LMA) is designed based on the new loss model by adjusting the ratio of the excitation current in the d–q axis. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is achieved by the principle of the energy shape method of the Hamiltonian system. Simulations are finally presented to verify effectiveness. The main results of these simulations indicate that the dynamic performance of the drive is maintained and the efficiency increase is up to about 7% compared with the id=0 control algorithm, and about 4.5% compared with the conventional LMA at a steady operation of a PMSM.

The complexity of network intrusion detection systems (IDSs) is increasing due to the continuous increases in network traffic, various attacks and the ever-changing network environment. In addition, network traffic is asymmetric with few attack data, but the attack data are so complex that it is difficult to detect one. Many studies on improving intrusion detection performance using feature engineering have been conducted. These studies work well in the dataset environment; however, it is challenging to cope with a changing network environment. This paper proposes an intrusion detection hyperparameter control system (IDHCS) that controls and trains a deep neural network (DNN) feature extractor and k-means clustering module as a reinforcement learning model based on proximal policy optimization (PPO). An IDHCS controls the DNN feature extractor to extract the most valuable features in the network environment, and identifies intrusion through k-means clustering. Through iterative learning using the PPO-based reinforcement learning model, the system is optimized to improve performance automatically according to the network environment, where the IDHCS is used. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the system performance using the CICIDS2017 and UNSW-NB15 datasets. In CICIDS2017, an F1-score of 0.96552 was achieved and UNSW-NB15 achieved an F1-score of 0.94268. An experiment was conducted by merging the two datasets to build a more extensive and complex test environment. By merging datasets, the attack types in the experiment became more diverse and their patterns became more complex. An F1-score of 0.93567 was achieved in the merged dataset, indicating 97% to 99% performance compared with CICIDS2017 and UNSW-NB15. The results reveal that the proposed IDHCS improved the performance of the IDS by automating learning new types of attacks by managing intrusion detection features regardless of the network environment changes through continuous learning.

Most linguistic-based approaches to multi-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) use symmetric, uniformly distributed sets of additive linguistic terms to express the opinions of decision makers. However, in reality, there are also some problems that require the use of asymmetric, uneven, i.e., non-equilibrium, multiplicative linguistic term sets to express the evaluation. The purpose of this paper is to propose a new approach to MAGDM under multiplicative linguistic information. The aggregation of linguistic data is an important component in MAGDM. To solve this problem, we define a chi-square for measuring the difference between multiplicative linguistic term sets. Furthermore, the linguistic generalized weighted logarithm multiple averaging (LGWLMA) operator and linguistic generalized ordered weighted logarithm multiple averaging (LGOWLMA) operator are proposed based on chi-square deviation. On the basis of the proposed two operators, we develop a novel approach to GDM with multiplicative linguistic term sets. Finally, the evaluation of transport logistics enterprises is developed to illustrate the validity and practicality of the proposed approach.

In this paper, we introduce a new type of matter that has origin in $p$-adic strings, i.e., strings with a $p$-adic worldsheet. We investigate some properties of this $p$-adic matter, in particular its cosmological aspects. We start with crossing symmetric scattering amplitudes for $p$-adic open strings and related effective nonlocal and nonlinear Lagrangian which describes tachyon dynamics at the tree level. Then, we make a slight modification of this Lagrangian and obtain a new Lagrangian for non-tachyonic scalar field. {Using this new Lagrangian in the weak field approximation as a matter in Einstein gravity with the cosmological constant, one obtains an exponentially expanding FLRW closed universe.} At the end, we discuss the obtained results, i.e., computed mass of the scalar $p$-adic particle, estimated radius of related closed universe and noted $p$-adic matter as a possible candidate for dark matter., 16 pages, 2 figures

The specific loading-path change during sheet metal forming may lead to some abnormal deformation phenomena. Two-stage orthogonal loading paths without elastic unloading have revealed a phenomenon of apparent loss of normality, further modeled in the literature by non-normality theories. In this paper, a particular orthogonal strain-path change is investigated using the Teodosiu–Hu hardening rule within an associated plasticity framework. The results indicate that cross work-hardening has a significant contribution to the apparent loss of normality and subsequent asymmetric yield surface evolution. Detailed contributions of the model’s ingredients and features are clarified. The developed material model is intended for sheet metal forming simulation applications.

This review is related to the Einstein-Bohr debate and to Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen’s (EPR) and Bohm’s (EPRB) Gedanken-experiments as well as their realization in actual experiments. I examine a significant number of papers, from my minority point of view and conclude that the well-known theorems of Bell and Clauser, Horne, Shimony and Holt (CHSH) deal with mathematical abstractions that have only a tenuous relation to quantum theory and the actual EPRB experiments. It is also shown that, therefore, Bell-CHSH cannot be used to assess the nature of quantum entanglement, nor can physical features of entanglement be used to prove Bell-CHSH. Their proofs are, among other factors, based on a statistical sampling argument that is invalid for general physical entities and processes and only applicable for finite “populations”; not for elements of physical reality that are linked, for example, to a time-like continuum. Bell-CHSH have, furthermore, neglected the subtleties of the theorem of Vorob’ev that includes their theorems as special cases. Vorob’ev found that certain combinatorial-topological cyclicities of classical random variables form a necessary and sufficient condition for the constraints that are now known as Bell-CHSH inequalities. These constraints, however, must not be linked to the observables of quantum theory nor to the actual EPRB experiments for a variety of reasons, including the existence of continuum-related variables and appropriate considerations of symmetry.

Exclusive hyperon-antihyperon production provides a unique insight for understanding of the intrinsic dynamics when strangeness is involved. In this paper, we review the results of ΛΛ¯ production via different reactions from various experiments, e.g., via p¯p annihilation from the LEAR experiment PS185, via electron-positron annihilation using the energy scan method at the CLEO-c and BESIII experiments and the initial-state-radiation approach utilized at the BaBar experiment. The production cross section of ΛΛ¯ near the threshold is sensitive to QCD based prediction. Experimental high precision data for p¯p→Λ¯Λ close to the threshold region is obtained. The cross section of e+e−→ΛΛ¯ is measured from its production threshold to high energy. A non-zero cross section for e+e−→ΛΛ¯ near threshold is observed at BaBar and BESIII, which is in disagreement with the pQCD prediction. However, more precise data is needed to confirm this observation. Future experiments, utilizing p¯p reaction such as PANDA experiment or electron-positron annihilation such as the BESIII and BelleII experiments, are needed to extend the experimental data and to understand the ΛΛ¯ production.

In this paper, we study yrast states of two N=126 isotones 210Po and 212Rn using the nucleon-pair approximation with particle–hole excitations and using a low-momentum interaction Vlow–k renormalized from the free CD-Bonn NN potential. An overall good agreement with experimental level structures, B(E2)s, and B(E3)s, is achieved. We also calculate the probabilities of neutron particle–hole excitations in these yrast states, with a focus on negative-parity states, which reflect the roles played by the neutron negative-parity configurations of one-particle-one-hole excitations across the N=126 shell gap and the negative-parity configurations of valence proton particles involving the 0i13/2 orbit. The N=126 shell gap is discussed in terms of energies of neutron one-particle-one-hole excitations.

Meeting the required amount of energy between supply and demand is indispensable for energy manufacturers. Accordingly, electric industries have paid attention to short-term energy forecasting to assist their management system. This paper firstly compares multiple machine learning (ML) regressors during the training process. Five best ML algorithms, such as extra trees regressor (ETR), random forest regressor (RFR), light gradient boosting machine (LGBM), gradient boosting regressor (GBR), and K neighbors regressor (KNN) are trained to build our proposed voting regressor (VR) model. Final predictions are performed using the proposed ensemble VR and compared with five selected ML benchmark models. Statistical autoregressive moving average (ARIMA) is also compared with the proposed model to reveal results. For the experiments, usage energy and weather data are gathered from four regions of Jeju Island. Error measurements, including mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean squared error (MSE) are computed to evaluate the forecasting performance. Our proposed model outperforms six baseline models in terms of the result comparison, giving a minimum MAPE of 0.845% on the whole test set. This improved performance shows that our approach is promising for symmetrical forecasting using time series energy data in the power system sector.

Estimation of a conditional covariance matrix is an interesting and important research topic in statistics and econometrics. However, modelling ultra-high dimensional dynamic (conditional) covariance structures is known to suffer from the curse of dimensionality or the problem of singularity. To partially solve this problem, this paper establishes a model by combining the ideas of a factor model and a symmetric GARCH model to describe the dynamics of a high-dimensional conditional covariance matrix. Quasi maximum likelihood estimation (QMLE) and least square estimation (LSE) methods are used to estimate the parameters in the model, and the plug-in method is introduced to obtain the estimation of conditional covariance matrix. Asymptotic properties are established for the proposed method, and simulation studies are given to demonstrate its performance. A financial application is presented to support the methodology.

Microgrid operations planning is crucial for emerging energy microgrids to enhance the share of clean energy power generation and ensure a safe symmetry power grid among distributed natural power sources and stable functioning of the entire power system. This paper suggests a new improved version (namely, ESSA) of the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) based on an elite reverse learning strategy and firefly algorithm (FA) mutation strategy for the power microgrid optimal operations planning. Scheduling cycles of the microgrid with a distributed power source’s optimal output and total operation cost is modeled based on variables, e.g., environmental costs, electricity interaction, investment depreciation, and maintenance system, to establish grid multi-objective economic optimization. Compared with other literature methods, such as Genetic algorithm (GA), Particle swarm optimization (PSO), Firefly algorithm (FA), Bat algorithm (BA), Grey wolf optimization (GWO), and SSA show that the proposed plan offers higher performance and feasibility in solving microgrid operations planning issues.

A topic of current interest in the study of topological indices is to find relations between some index and one or several relevant parameters and/or other indices. In this paper we study two general topological indices A&alpha, and B&alpha, defined for each graph H=(V(H),E(H)) by A&alpha, (H)=&sum, ij&isin, E(H)f(di,dj)&alpha, i&isin, V(H)h(di)&alpha, where di denotes the degree of the vertex i and &alpha, is any real number. Many important topological indices can be obtained from A&alpha, by choosing appropriate symmetric functions and values of &alpha, This new framework provides new tools that allow to obtain in a unified way inequalities involving many different topological indices. In particular, we obtain new optimal bounds on the variable Zagreb indices, the variable sum-connectivity index, the variable geometric-arithmetic index and the variable inverse sum indeg index. Thus, our approach provides both new tools for the study of topological indices and new bounds for a large class of topological indices. We obtain several optimal bounds of A&alpha, (respectively, B&alpha, ) involving A&beta, (respectively, B&beta, ). Moreover, we provide several bounds of the variable geometric-arithmetic index in terms of the variable inverse sum indeg index, and two bounds of the variable inverse sum indeg index in terms of the variable second Zagreb and the variable sum-connectivity indices.

Symmetry plays an important role in solving practical problems of applied science, especially in algorithm innovation. In this paper, we propose what we call the self-adaptive inertial-like proximal point algorithms for solving the split common null point problem, which use a new inertial structure to avoid the traditional convergence condition in general inertial methods and avoid computing the norm of the difference between xn and xn−1 before choosing the inertial parameter. In addition, the selection of the step-sizes in the inertial-like proximal point algorithms does not need prior knowledge of operator norms. Numerical experiments are presented to illustrate the performance of the algorithms. The proposed algorithms provide enlightenment for the further development of applied science in order to dig deep into symmetry under the background of technological innovation.

In this paper, a new subspace gradient method is proposed in which the search direction is determined by solving an approximate quadratic model in which a simple symmetric matrix is used to estimate the Hessian matrix in a three-dimensional subspace. The obtained algorithm has the ability to automatically adjust the search direction according to the feedback from experiments. Under some mild assumptions, we use the generalized line search with non-monotonicity to obtain remarkable results, which not only establishes the global convergence of the algorithm for general functions, but also R-linear convergence for uniformly convex functions is further proved. The numerical performance for both the traditional test functions and image restoration problems show that the proposed algorithm is efficient.

In the present paper, we extend the current literature in algorithmic trading with Markov-switching models with generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic (MS-GARCH) models. We performed this by using asymmetric log-likelihood functions (LLF) and variance models. From 2 January 2004 to 19 March 2021, we simulated 36 institutional investor’s portfolios. These used homogenous (either symmetric or asymmetric) Gaussian, Student’s t-distribution, or generalized error distribution (GED) and (symmetric or asymmetric) GARCH variance models. By including the impact of stock trading fees and taxes, we found that an institutional investor could outperform the S&P 500 stock index (SP500) if they used the suggested trading algorithm with symmetric homogeneous GED LLF and an asymmetric E-GARCH variance model. The trading algorithm had a simple rule, that is, to invest in the SP500 if the forecast probability of being in a calm or normal regime at t + 1 is higher than 50%. With this configuration in the MS-GARCH model, the simulated portfolios achieved a 324.43% accumulated return, of which the algorithm generated 168.48%. Our results contribute to the discussion on using MS-GARCH models in algorithmic trading with a combination of either symmetric or asymmetric pdfs and variance models.

A multi-purpose image-based QR code is designed in this paper. There are four purposes for the generated image-based QR code. In the first purpose, the basic image-based QR code with the look of a host image is with an ingenious layout to be identified easier. In the second one, a saliency region detection method is adopted for enhancing the quality of the image-based QR code. In the third one, the host image is embedded into the image-based QR code for further access to the host image; Finally, the visual cryptography-based watermarking method is applied to the host image embedded image-based QR code. In the case that the specific users need verification from the image-based QR code, the binary verified image can be retrieved when the public share is available. The experimental results demonstrate that the generated image-based QR code not only looked better than some previous works but also had high quality host image embedded and identification ability.

The Maclaurin symmetric mean (MSM) operator has a good aggregation effect. It can capture the relationships between multiple input parameters, and the neutrosophic uncertain linguistic numbers can well represent some indeterminate and incomplete information. In this paper, we combine the MSM operator with the singled-valued neutrosophic uncertain linguistic set and propose some MSM operators based on single-valued neutrosophic uncertain linguistic environment, such as single-valued neutrosophic uncertain linguistic Maclaurin symmetric mean(SVNULMSM) operator and single-valued neutrosophic uncertain linguistic generalized Maclaurin symmetric mean(SVNULGMSM) operator. First of all, according to the neutrosophic set and uncertain linguistic numbers, we propose the single-valued neutrosophic uncertain linguistic numbers and give some operating rules. Furthermore, considering the influence of attribute weight on the results, we introduce the weighted SVNULMSM operator and weighted SVNULGMSM operator. Then, we propose a method to deal with MSDM problems and give the specific steps to solve the problem. Finally, an investment example is used to verify the effectiveness of our method, and the superiority of the method is proved by comparing with other methods.

We present a design sensitivity analysis and isogeometric shape optimization with path-dependent loads belonging to non-conservative loads under the assumption of elastic bodies. Path-dependent loads are sometimes expressed as the follower forces, and these loads have characteristics that depend not only on the design area of the structure but also on the deformation. When such a deformation-dependent load is considered, an asymmetric load stiffness matrix (tangential operator) in the response region appears. In this paper, the load stiffness matrix is derived by linearizing the non-linear non-conservative load, and the geometrical non-linear structure is optimally designed in the total Lagrangian formulation using the isogeometric framework. In particular, since the deformation-dependent load changes according to the change and displacement of the design area, the isogeometric analysis has a significant influence on the accuracy of the sensitivity analysis and optimization results. Through several numerical examples, the applicability and superiority of the isogeometric analysis method were verified in optimizing the shape of the problem subject to deformation-dependent loads.

The deformation of existing pipelines caused by the tunneling of a shield machine along curved sections has not been sufficiently researched, and a corresponding theoretical prediction formula is lacking. This paper derives a prediction formula for the deformation of an existing pipeline caused by shield machine tunneling along a curved section. Further, a finite difference model (FDM) corresponding to an actual project is built. Finally, the deformation of the surface and existing pipelines caused by shield machine tunneling along the curved section is analyzed. The research results show that the results of theoretical prediction, FDM calculation, and field monitoring data are consistent. In addition, the deformation of the surface and the existing pipeline are asymmetrically distributed when the shield machine tunnels along the curve section instead of symmetrically distributed (for straight line segment). When the pipeline is perpendicular to the tunnel axis, the maximum deformation position of the existing pipeline deviates from the tunnel axis by about 0.5 times the tunnel radius. In addition, as the angle β between the pipeline axis and the tunnel axis increases, the maximum deformation position of the pipeline gradually approaches the tunnel axis.

Hiding secret data in digital images is an attractive topic in the information security research area. Because the data-embedded stego image looks exactly the same as a regular image, transmitting secret data with stego images does not draw the attention of eavesdroppers, thus fulfilling the goal of information security. Many reversible data hiding (RDH) methods for absolute moment block truncation coding (AMBTC) compressed images have been proposed. These methods hide secret data in an AMBTC-compressed image to produce a stego image and transmit it to the recipient. Upon receiving the stego image, the recipient can extract the secret data and recover the AMBTC-compressed image. In this paper, we propose an RDH scheme for AMBTC-compressed images with an asymmetric embedding rule. Using the AMBTC-compressed version as the basis, the proposed embedding scheme always modifies a pixel value toward its original value with a step size (bitrate) proportional to the gap width. Therefore, the visual quality of the stego image is better than the referred AMBTC version. Additionally, as a result of the adaptive bitrate strategy, the data embedding capacity of the proposed scheme outperforms that of state-of-the-art methods. The security of the resulting stego images was also tested by RS-steganalysis. Experimental results show that the overall performance of the proposed scheme is satisfactory.
