Agriculture is not only the source of carbon emissions, but also an important carbon sink. The development of low-carbon agriculture in China is closely related to achieving the national strategic goal of "dual carbon." Reducing carbon emissions in China's agricultural sector and accelerating the development of ecological low-carbon agriculture (ELA) are extremely important and urgent, both from the perspective of the long-term common welfare for mankind and from the perspective of maintaining the sustainable development of agriculture itself. However, ELA is still an emerging concept in China, and its connotation and characteristics are not yet clear. There is a lack of effective paths for orderly and scientific promotion of the development of ELA in China. Based on this, this paper focuses on the emerging concept of ELA and examines ELA with Chinese characteristics from the dimensions of connotation, features, practical issues, and pathways, aiming to provide guidance for the sustainable development of ELA in China. The research results indicate that there are regional development imbalances, low willingness of farmers to participate, insufficient technological reserves, and difficulties in realizing the value of ecological products in China's ELA. It is necessary to improve the modern agricultural production and operation system, tap into the potential of agricultural emission reduction and carbon sequestration, build a technical system to support the development of ELA, and establish a sound mechanism for realizing the value of ecological products. By continuously improving the regional organizational capacity and performance of ELA, accelerating the advancement of ELA technology and demonstrating its regional promotion, and by establishing and continuously improving the support system for ELA, one can promote the sustainable development of ELA in China. In addition, the research findings of this paper can also provide reference for the ecological low-carbon development of the global agricultural sector, supporting the contribution of the agricultural sector to achieving high-quality global sustainable development goals. Understanding the complex relationship between ESSD and human well-being is of paramount significance to protecting regional ecology, enhancing human well-being and achieving sustainable development. We take the Yangtze River Economic Belt as an example and use multi-source data to analyse land use and cover change, as well as the spatiotemporal evolution of ESSD and human well-being. We explore and reveal the coupling coordination relationship between ESSD and human well-being. The results show that from 2000 to 2020, the overall trend in ESs in the region improved significantly, and the supply notably increased, whereas the demand growth rate was even more pronounced. The supply–demand ratio for water yield and soil conservation showed little change, with variations of <10%. However, the supply–demand ratio for carbon sequestration declined significantly by 41.83%, whereas that for food supply increased notably by 42.93%. The overall spatial pattern in ESSD presented a mismatch, which was characterised by 'low supply and high demand in the eastern region and high supply and low demand in the western region'. Overall, human well-being remained stable and was in line with the level of socio-economic development, thereby exhibiting a distinct trend of well-being 'polarisation between the rich and poor'. Well-being was higher in the eastern and central urban agglomerations and lower in the western plateau and mountainous areas. Over 20 years, the degree of coupling coordination between ESSD and human well-being increased by 0.0107, and the coupling level gradually transitioned from moderate imbalance to moderate coordination. Spatially, Hubei Province, Chongqing Municipality and the Yangtze River Delta were the main 'high–high' agglomeration areas, whereas the Sichuan Basin and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau were the main 'low–low' agglomeration areas. Based on these findings, we propose the following management recommendations for the Yangtze River Economic Belt and other related great river economic belts: optimise land use structure, rationally allocate natural resources, strengthen regional and external connections and promote regional coordinated development, enhance the implementation of policies for ecological and environmental protection, establish regional ecological compensation mechanisms and coordinate ecological protection in a full scope and focus on harmonising human–land relationships, build a multi-stakeholder collaborative governance mechanism and promote regional ecological protection and the elevation of human well-being. The slowdown in income not only hinders the sustainable development of farmers but also exacerbates ecological and environmental problems. Likewise, the digital economy model represented by e-commerce has become a key path for growing farmers' income. This article is based on 2020 China Rural Revitalization Survey data and uses the OLS and mediation effect models to examine the impact and mechanism of e-commerce operations on farmers' income. The research results indicate that e-commerce operations can significantly improve the income level of farmers. After robustness and endogeneity tests, this conclusion still holds. The mechanism analysis results indicate that e-commerce operations promote farmers' income growth by enhancing information acquisition, reducing operating costs, and enhancing financial support. The results of the heterogeneity analysis indicate that the impact of e-commerce on farmers' income is heterogeneous in terms of income structure, education level, and regional distribution. Specifically, e-commerce significantly increases farmers' agricultural operating income, non-agricultural operating income, and transfer income but significantly reduces their wage income. At the same time, e-commerce has a more significant income-increasing effect on highly educated and central and western farmers. Therefore, in promoting the development of a rural digital economy, it is necessary to improve the supporting facilities of e-commerce in rural areas; strengthen the supply of information, technology, capital, talent, and other elements; continue to improve the inclusiveness of rural e-commerce; and promote the sustainable growth of farmers' income. The above findings not only provide new channels and ideas for farmers to increase income through e-commerce operations, but also help relevant decision-making departments to formulate new policies to promote farmers' income growth and the development of e-commerce in China. Currently, the viscoelastic properties of conventional asphalt cement need to be improved to meet the increasing demands caused by larger traffic loads, increased stress, and changing environmental conditions. Thus, using modifiers is suggested. Furthermore, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promote using waste materials and new technologies in asphalt pavement technology. The present study aims to fill this gap by investigating the use of pulverized oil palm industry clinker (POPIC) as an asphalt–cement modifier to improve the fatigue life of bituminous concrete using an innovative prediction approach. Thus, this study proposes an approach that integrates statistically based machine learning approaches and investigates the effects of applied stress and temperature on the fatigue life of POPIC-modified bituminous concrete. POPIC-modified bituminous concrete (POPIC-MBC) is produced from a standard Marshall mix. The interactions between POPIC concentration, stress, and temperature were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM), resulting in 7.5% POPIC, 11.7 °C, and 0.2 MPa as the optimum parameters for fatigue life. To improve the prediction accuracy and robustness of the results, RSM and ANN models were used and analyzed using MATLAB and JMP Pro, respectively. The performance of the developed model was assessed using the coefficient of determination (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean relative error (MRE). The study found that using RSM, MATLAB, and JMP Pro resulted in a comprehensive analysis. MATLAB achieved an R² value of 0.9844, RMSE of 3.094, and MRE of 312.427, and JMP Pro achieved an R² value of 0.998, RMSE of 1.245, and MRE of 126.243, demonstrating higher prediction accuracy and superior performance than RSM, which had an R² value of 0.979, RMSE of 3.757, and MRE of 357.846. Further validation with parity, Taylor, and violin plots demonstrates that both models have good prediction accuracy, with the JMP Pro ANN model outperforming in terms of accuracy and alignment. This demonstrates the machine learning approach's efficiency in analyzing the fatigue life of POPIC-MBC, revealing it to be a useful tool for future research and practical applications. Furthermore, the study reveals that the innovative approach adopted and POPIC modifier, obtained from biomass waste, meets zero-waste and circular bioeconomy goals, contributing to the UN's SDGs 9, 11, 12, and 13. When implementing a rural revitalization strategy, it is of great significance to understand how to identify potential risks in different types of villages and how to achieve resilience governance. In this paper, a rural classification evaluation method is proposed from the perspective of resilience. The stress–state–response model and the TOPSIS method were used to analyze the resilience risks in different types of villages in Lvshunkou District. The results showed that the comprehensive resilience of rural areas in Lvshunkou District has the spatial distribution characteristics of "high center and low wings", and the spatial differences of each resilience subsystem are different: the pressure resilience subsystem shows a trend of "increasing step by step" from the coast to the inland, the state resilience subsystem shows a trend of "decreasing step by step from the center to the two wings", and the response resilience subsystem shows a trend of "blocky aggregation and balanced distribution". This paper further proposes systematic reconstruction strategies for rural resilience related to the four aspects of rural space, industry, ecology, and governance, providing development ideas for measuring rural resilience indicators in Lvshunkou District and realizing long-term governance in different types of villages. The three-dimensional morphological analysis of urban buildings constitutes a pivotal component of urban planning and sustainable development. Nevertheless, the majority of current research is two-dimensional in nature, which constrains the comprehensive understanding of urban spatial–temporal evolution. The existing body of three-dimensional studies frequently fails to consider the temporal dimension of architectural change and lacks a detailed examination of micro areas such as communities and streets. In order to accurately identify the patterns of spatial–temporal evolution in urban architectural morphology, this study focuses on the Yau Tsim Mong District in Hong Kong, utilizing three-dimensional data. By innovatively integrating temporal factors, constructing a spatial–temporal weight matrix, and applying the spatial–temporal Moran's I, this study conducts an in-depth quantitative analysis of Coverage, Staggeredness, and Duty Cycle at the community scale, neighborhood scale, and urban scale. From 2014 to 2023, the global spatial–temporal Moran's I of key urban morphology indicators in Yau Tsim Mong District has exhibited a marked increase, underscoring the close interrelationship and significant optimization between urban morphology and overall development. The findings illustrate that urban architecture is undergoing a process of agglomeration and high homogeneity, with strategic shifts emphasizing efficient spatial utilization and refined design. The analysis at the neighborhood scale is of particular importance, as its independent and complete spatial structure effectively captures local dynamics, revealing high-value agglomeration and low-value dispersion characteristics. This suggests that buildings in the Yau Tsim Mong District are being constructed in a more compact manner at the neighborhood level, which reflects the precision and efficiency of urban planning and the rationality of spatial planning. These significant findings provide valuable references for the development planning and governance of sustainable cities. Originally, the use of hyperspectral images was for military applications, but their use has been extended to precision agriculture. In particular, they are used for activities related to crop classification or disease detection, combining these hyperspectral images with machine learning techniques and algorithms. The study of hyperspectral images has a wide range of wavelengths for observation. These wavelengths allow for monitoring agricultural crops such as cereals, oilseeds, vegetables, and fruits, and other applications. In the ranges of these wavelengths, crop conditions such as maturity index and nutrient status, or the early detection of some diseases that cause losses in crops, can be studied and diagnosed. Therefore, this article proposes a technical review of the main applications of hyperspectral images in agricultural crops and perspectives and challenges that combine artificial intelligence algorithms such as machine learning and deep learning in the classification and detection of diseases of crops such as cereals, oilseeds, fruits, and vegetables. A systematic review of the scientific literature was carried out using a 10-year observation window to determine the evolution of the integration of these technological tools that support sustainable agriculture; among the findings, information on the most documented crops is highlighted, among which are some cereals and citrus fruits due to their high demand and large cultivation areas, as well as information on the main fruits and vegetables that are integrating these technologies. Also, the main artificial intelligence algorithms that are being worked on are summarized and classified, as well as the wavelength ranges for the prediction, disease detection, and analysis of other tasks of physiological characteristics used for sustainable production. This review can be useful as a reference for future research, based mainly on detection, classification, and other tasks in agricultural crops and decision making, to implement the most appropriate artificial intelligence algorithms. In this paper, referring to Kaya's method, the ratio of gross agricultural production (GAP) and agricultural carbon emission is defined as agricultural carbon emission efficiency (ACEE). Considering rural labor transfer (RLT) increases the agricultural machinery intensity (AMI), the two are substitutes for each other and may interact with agricultural carbon emission efficiency (ACEE). We constructed a Simultaneous Equations Model (SEM) of ACEE, RLT and AMI and analyzed the interaction mechanism of these three variables using the Three-Stage Least Squares (3SLS). The following conclusions are drawn. First, RLT and AMI significantly promote the improvement of ACEE, while the improvement of ACEE and AMI further promotes RLT. Secondly, the causal relationship and influence mechanism of ACEE, RLT and AMI are interactive and multi-directional. For example, an increase in AMI promotes ACEE, but an increase in ACEE inhibits an increase in AMI. Finally, China has significant regional heterogeneity, and different regions have different interaction mechanisms. Local governments should consider the local economic base and technological level when implementing policies. The rational flow of production factors is crucial for promoting benign interactions between urban and rural areas. To unveil the intrinsic mechanisms of factor flow pathways promoting mutual symbiosis between urban and rural areas, this study, based on symbiosis theory, takes total factor flow including land, technology, capital, and labor as inputs and urban–rural symbiosis level as output. Utilizing the Super-Efficiency Slack-Based Measure (SBM) model, this study calculates the urban–rural total factor flow efficiency of 27 provinces in China from 2011 to 2021 and explores specific improvement directions of urban–rural factor flow based on projection analysis. This study revealed the following findings: (1) The overall efficiency of urban–rural total factor flow in China shows a fluctuating upward trend but has not yet reached an effective state. There are significant regional disparities, with 8 provinces such as Guangdong and Fujian reaching Pareto optimality, while the remaining 19 provinces exhibit varying degrees of inefficiency. (2) Provinces with insufficient symbiotic production are mainly concentrated in the central and western regions and the northeast region, with 14 provinces including Inner Mongolia showing the inadequate transformation of urban–rural symbiosis. However, except for Hainan, the situation is gradually improving in other regions annually. (3) There is input redundancy in total factor, where land, labor, and capital redundancy are the main reasons for the inefficiency of urban–rural total factor flow in China. However, trends show that the redundancy of land, labor, and capital elements is improving annually, while technology redundancy is worsening. (4) Through a comprehensive analysis of input redundancy, output deficiency, symbiosis coefficient, and efficiency, this study categorizes the impact of factor flow on urban–rural symbiosis level into basic matching, redundancy, and comprehensive scarcity types. Studies on rural transformation in the context of urbanization have always analyzed it from a single linear perspective, either top-down or bottom-up. This leads to simplistic generalizations of rural transformation models and the standardization of policy implementation. Based on the TPSN analytical framework, this study adds the temporality dimension to form a more comprehensive TPSNT framework. This paper explores the complex construction of rural space in rural transformation from the five dimensions of "territory, place, scale, network and temporality" and takes the urban village, Hongren, in Kunming City, China, as a case study to analyze the specific transformation process of a village. The research revealed the following: First, in the face of land loss caused by government land acquisition, traditional rural autonomous organizations that have been hidden under the modern governance system have been revived under the influence of traditional elites and completed bottom-up territorialization by using some "maneuver spaces "to form a spatial base for negotiation with the government. Second, the cohesion of traditional rural autonomous organizations has increased during this process, and with the help of mobile capital such as media and personal connections, they have developed social networks that transcend the spatial boundaries of villages. Third, these newly constructed social networks are used to carry out various political strategies at various scales and finally negotiated with the government to rewrite the planning plan so that the village can continue to develop and integrate into the city. Finally, the analysis of the temporal dimensions of Hongren village revealed that even within the same village, changes in the other four dimensions develop dynamically, and rural transformation is an ongoing process. Therefore, when the government deals with rural issues in the process of urbanization, it should avoid a one-size-fits-all approach. To promote the application of economical and sustainable polyphosphoric acid (PPA)-modified asphalt in road engineering, styrene-butadiene block copolymer (SBS), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), and PPA were used to prepare PPA/SBS and PPA/SBR composite-modified asphalts, which were tested and the data analyzed. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) tests and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) tests were carried out to study the modification mechanisms of the composite-modified asphalts, and the high-temperature performance of the PPA-modified asphalt and asphalt mixtures was analyzed by dynamic shear rheology (DSR) tests and wheel tracking tests. A gray correlation analysis and a back-propagation (BP) neural network were utilized to construct a prediction model of the high-temperature performance of the asphalt and asphalt mixtures. The test results indicate that PPA chemically interacts with the base asphalt and physically integrates with SBS and SBR. The PPA-modified asphalt has a higher decomposition temperature than the base asphalt, indicating superior thermal stability. As the PPA dosage increases, the G*/sinδ value of the PPA-modified asphalt also increases. In particular, when 0.6% PPA is combined with 2% SBS/SBR, it surpasses the high-temperature performance achieved with 4% SBS/SBR, suggesting that PPA may be a good alternative for polymer modifiers. In addition, the creep recovery of PPA-modified asphalt is influenced by the stress level, and as the stress increases, the R-value decreases, resulting in reduced elastic deformation. Furthermore, the BP neural network model achieved a fit of 0.991 in predicting dynamic stability, with a mean percentage of relative error (MAPE) of 6.15% between measured and predicted values. Straw, the primary agricultural waste, constitutes approximately 20% of the total biomass in the EU. Only a small fraction of the material is applied in various products, e.g., animal bedding, mulch, building, and composite materials, while a significantly larger portion is often burned in the field. This practice, while prohibited for several reasons, including the increased risk of fire and the release of carbon dioxide contributing to global warming, is still prevalent. Given the increasingly evident effects of climate change, EU legislation aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible. One of the strategies includes applying the cascade principle in the circular economy. This principle aims to use the entire raw material, in this case, cereal crops, such that the products with the highest added value, like cellulose fibers from cereal straw, are extracted first. The vast potential for utilizing lignocellulosic agro-waste sustainably arises from its status as the most abundant organic compound on Earth. Its significant presence, renewability, and biodegradability make it a desirable source for producing materials in numerous industries. This study examines the potential of wheat fibers, isolated from the straw of two distinct cultivars (Srpanjka represents an old variety, and Kraljica represents the new variety) primarily for application in technical textiles. The following testing methods were applied: determination of wheat fibers and residues yield, fibers tensile properties, length, moisture content/regain, density, morphology, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The yield of isolated fibers relies on the wheat variety and the climatic conditions affecting plant growth, resulting in fiber yields from 10.91% to 15.34%. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis indicates reduced peak intensity, which is related to hemicellulose and lignin content, suggesting their improved deposition following the process of chemical maceration. Wheat fiber quality was found to be comparable to cotton fibers regarding its density. However, they showed a significant difference in higher moisture regain (9.72–11.40%). The vast majority of the scientific papers related to wheat fibers did not indicate the length of the individual fibers obtained by chemical maceration nor their strength. Therefore, this paper indicated that both varieties demonstrated sufficient fiber tenacity (greater than 10 cN/tex) and fiber length (2–3 cm), stressing the spinning potential of these fibers into yarns and extending their use to the apparel industry. Moreover, our research underscores the feasibility of adhering to the zero-waste principle. A high percentage of solid waste remaining after fiber extraction (25.3–39.5%) was successfully used for biofuel production, thus closing the loop in the circular economy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Xiaojiang Basin ranks among the global regions with the highest density of geological hazards. Landslides, avalanches, and debris flows represent significant threats to the safety of residents and their properties, impeding sustainable development. This study utilized three InSAR techniques to monitor surface deformations in the basin, using the standard deviation of these measurements as a stability threshold to identify potential landslides. A systematic analysis of landslide development characteristics was then conducted. Key findings include the following: (1) The annual average deformation velocity in the basin from 2018 to 2021 ranged from −25.36 to 24.40 mm/year, identifying 212 potential landslides. (2) Deformation analysis of a typical landslide in Caizishan showed consistent detection of significant surface changes by all three InSAR methods. Seasonal deformation linked to summer rainfall exacerbates the movement in elevated landslides. (3) Landslides predominantly occur in fragile geological formations such as sandstone, mudstone, and kamacite on slopes of 20° to 40°. These landslides, typically covering less than 0.1 km2, are mostly found on barren and grassland terrains adjacent to lower debris gullies, with a relative elevation difference of under 300 m and an aspect range of 90° to 270°. A high kernel density value of 0.3 or higher was noted, with 86.8% influenced by regional tectonic activities, including fault zones. The results demonstrate that natural environmental factors primarily drive landslides in the Xiaojiang Basin, which pose significant threats to the safety of nearby residents. Resource exploitation markedly alters land use and ecological carbon storage, posing risks to carbon sinks and food security. This study analyzes land-use change from 1990 to 2020 in the resource-based province of Shanxi, China. By introducing a mineral resource driver, the PLUS model was used to predict four scenarios: natural development (ND), cropland protection (CP), ecological protection (EP), and dual protection of ecology and cropland (DP). The spatial and temporal evolutions of carbon storage were then analyzed using the InVEST model. Forests were predominantly distributed in mountainous areas, with croplands in southerly and central flat areas, construction lands in and around cities, and mining lands sporadically distributed across Shanxi. From 1990 to 2020, croplands and grasslands decreased, while forest, construction, and mining lands increased. Carbon storage decreased continuously, with a total loss of 15.1 × 106 t. High-value carbon storage areas were in the Lüliang, Taihang, and Taiyue Mountains, and low-value areas were in the more populous central and southern regions. Carbon storage was predicted to decline by 2035 under the ND and CP scenarios and to exceed that of 2020 under the EP and DP scenarios. The DP scenario projected an increase of 4.93 × 106 t in carbon storage by 2035. The DP scenario realizes the protection of carbon sinks in resource-based areas and maintains food security, providing a theoretical reference for achieving carbon neutrality and high-quality sustainable development in Shanxi Province. The impact of rural-urban student mobility on the efficiency of resource allocation in China's rural households is crucial for refining policies related to rural migrant settlement and the balanced allocation of urban and rural educational resources. Drawing on theoretical insights, this study employs a mixed methods approach—primarily qualitative, with quantitative support—to empirically test the impact of rural-urban student mobility on the resource allocation efficiency of rural households in China. Utilizing micro-survey data from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this study applies ordinary least squares (OLS) models, propensity score matching difference-in-differences (PSM-DID) models, and endogenous switching regression (ESR) models to ascertain the direction of this impact. Furthermore, this study incorporates in-depth interview data gathered from field research in D County to explore the dynamic mechanisms of resource allocation adjustments within these households. The results show that rural-urban student mobility significantly reduces the efficiency of labor resource allocation and agricultural production in China's rural households. The impact is heterogeneous across different groups, most negatively affecting households with limited labor resources, lower educational levels, lower incomes, more productive fixed assets, and less self-owned land. Mobility leads to suboptimal occupational choices, resulting in decreased labor resource efficiency. Additionally, it distorts agricultural production by leading to labor loss, reduced investments in agricultural productivity, and misaligned land allocation decisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of Features and Characteristics of Mountainous Rural Settlements (RFCMRS) is a key factor in the development of rural settlements during the urbanization process. Mountainous rural settlements, due to their unique mountainous conditions, climate, living environments, and regional culture, are among the important subjects of research for governments and the academic community worldwide. This paper, utilizing the knowledge mapping software CiteSpace (6.2.R3) for co-citation and collaboration analysis, keyword clustering, keyword time zoning, and keyword emergence, analyzes the research trajectory, key issues, and future trends of RFCMRSs. The study finds that current RFCMRS research can be categorized into the following three key issues: "implications of climate change: risks and adaptive responses", "regional cultural heritage and economic development", and "ecological conservation and fostering harmonious symbiosis". Future research will focus on the following three development trends: "risk response based on climate resilience and ecological protection", "factors of features and characteristics based on regional culture and landscape configurations", and "human settlements based on low-carbon objectives and sustainable development principles". Lastly, the paper proposes the following three future research suggestions: "improving the evaluation system for features and characteristics of mountainous rural settlements", "deepening the study on the evolutionary phenomenon and mechanism for features and characteristics of mountainous rural settlements", and "exploring the design methods for features and characteristics of mountainous rural settlements based on the concept of sustainable development". The authors present a practical framework for assessing seasonal events that may influence maritime operations, seeking to tie in discussions about climate change adoption to maritime operational assessments. Most maritime-related research tends to focus on a single event, such as a storm, but maritime systems operate within complex systems that have some predictable patterns. These predictable patterns due to natural events, such as weather and water levels, can influence operations. By contrast, other factors, such as cargo peaks or cultural activities, could also shape maritime systems. The growing focus on adopting human activities to the United Nations' Sustainability Development Goals means that system operations should consider their relationship to these broader goals. This study utilizes panel data from 31 Chinese provinces spanning from 1990 to 2021 to construct distinct indicator systems for urban–rural integration and food security. The entropy method is employed to assess levels of urban–rural integration and food security, with their inter-relationship examined through a fixed-effects model. Additionally, this study conducts rigorous robustness and endogeneity tests, alongside comprehensive heterogeneity analyses across various dimensions and regions. The findings underscore the significant role of urban–rural integration in enhancing food security, particularly within spatial, social, and economic dimensions, albeit encountering challenges in ecological integration. In light of the tremendous pressure for improving urbanization levels and expanding construction land on ecosystems, regional sustainable development is premised on the coordinated development of the ecological environment and urbanization. This paper focuses on the Circum-Bohai-Sea Region and assesses the ecosystem service value (ESV) and urbanization level using the equivalence factor and entropy-weighted TOPSIS methods. Based on these assessments, it examines the coupling coordination between the ESV and urbanization as well as the obstacles to this coordination, utilizing the coupling coordination degree model, spatial autocorrelation model, and obstacle model. The results revealed several key findings. First, the Circum-Bohai-Sea Region experienced a continuous improvement in the urbanization level from 2005 to 2020, which presented a "center–periphery" spatial pattern. Overall, the ESV exhibited an N-shaped trend, namely, initially increasing, then decreasing, and then rapidly increasing. The ESV per unit of area exhibited a spatial difference, with the boundary of Baoding and Cangzhou as the dividing line. The ESV per unit of area in the northern parts was higher than that in the southern parts. Second, the degree of the coupling coordination between the ESV and urbanization exhibited an inverted U-shaped trend, initially increasing and then slightly decreasing. It also exhibited significant spatial heterogeneity, with the degree of the coupling coordination in the northern parts being higher than that in the southern parts and that in the central parts being higher than those in the eastern and western parts. Additionally, the ESV showed a significant spatially positive correlation with urbanization. H-H clusters were predominantly found in central and southern Liaoning Province, while L-L clusters were primarily located in southern Hebei Province and western Shandong Province. Third, the obstacle factors remained stable during the study period. The top five obstacles in the ESV system were the water resource supply, nutrient cycling maintenance, raw material production, aesthetic landscape, and food production. Moreover, the top five obstacles in the urbanization system were the number of college students per 10,000 people, population density, number of health technical personnel per 10,000 people, per capita road area, and proportion of secondary and tertiary industry output values. The global ecological decline resulting from urban development presents a significant challenge for numerous regions striving to reconcile conservation efforts with developmental needs. This study explores the relationship between ecosystem service value (ESV) and habitat quality (HQ) under various scenarios to elucidate prospective development trajectories. This study utilized the PLUS model to simulate land use patterns in the Chengdu metropolitan area across four distinct development scenarios. Furthermore, it employed the equivalent factor method and the Invest model to quantify ESV and HQ values, and investigated the coupling coordination between ESV and HQ for each city using a coupling coordination model (CCM). The coupling coordination development of rural revitalization and rural e-commerce is of great significance in promoting the economic growth of rural areas. Based on the observational data of 14 prefectural-level cities in Hunan Province from 2013 to 2021, this study analyzes the spatio-temporal evolution characteristics and driving factors of the coupling coordination development of rural revitalization and rural e-commerce in Hunan Province by adopting the methods of the coupling coordination model and spatial econometric model. The findings indicate that (1) the coupling coordination degree between rural revitalization and rural e-commerce has gradually increased, showing a transition path from dissonance to coordination; (2) there are regional differences in the coupling coordination degree between rural revitalization and rural e-commerce, with the overall difference showing a fluctuating narrowing trend, and the intra-regional difference is the principal cause for the overall difference; (3) the coupling coordination degree shows spatial clustering characteristics, with high–high clustering areas mainly concentrated in the eastern part of Hunan Province and low–low clustering areas concentrated in the western part of Hunan Province; and (4) there is a notable driving effect of infrastructure development, digitalization level, human capital, and regional consumption level on the coupling coordination of rural revitalization and rural e-commerce. Exploring the dynamic variation in ecosystem services and clarifying the driving mechanism will help with the formulation of effective ecological environment protection policies. Accordingly, this study sought to reveal the complex variability in ecosystem services in the Yellow River Delta (YRD) at a higher temporal resolution and the transition between the main driving factors in different periods. To this end, we used the economic equivalent factor valuation method to quantify the ecosystem service value from 2000 to 2019 at 5-year intervals. Furthermore, the Geo-detector model was used to identify the main driving factors and interaction between the driving factors of ecosystem service value variations. Then, we analyzed the temporal and spatial dynamic variations in the ecosystem service value and the transitions between the main driving factors in different periods. The main results are as follows: (1) From 2000 to 2019, the ecosystem service value of the YRD showed an increasing trend followed by a decline, whereby water and construction land increased and the other classes of land decreased. Overall, the inland and coastal distribution patterns exhibited low and high values, respectively. (2) The main driving factors of ecosystem service value variations were the NDVI and topographical factors (aspect, slope, elevation), which had q values that were stable and greater than those of the other factors. Although human activity, tourist resource concentration and traffic convenience factors had a comparatively minor effect on ecosystem services, we noted a trend where their effects increased from 2000 to 2019. (3) The detection of interactions revealed complex mechanisms affecting the variation in the YRD. Interactions between variables had a stronger influence than individual effects. The interactions between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and other factors consistently had the most significant impact. These interactions primarily shaped the spatial and temporal distribution of ecosystem services. The NDVI and human activities exhibited nonlinear enhancement. For the preservation of ecosystems, including the enhancement of ecological strategies, examining the temporal and geographical variance in ecosystem services (ESs) and land use/land cover change (LUCC) is crucial. Gannan is situated on the upper Yellow River, which is a notable water conservation region with excellent ecological quality, but in the background of the local traditional production mode and rapid economic development, natural disasters, grassland degradation, and other ecological problems occur frequently. The integrated valuing of ecosystem services and tradeoffs (InVEST) model and the patch-generating land use simulation (PLUS) model are combined in this work to assess the spatiotemporal variance in ESs in Gannan. We set up three scenarios in modeling future land use—ecological protection (EP), natural development (ND), and economic development (ED) in 2050—and analyzed and evaluated the drivers of the variation in ESs. In order to reveal the LUCC in Gannan between 1990 and 2020, we predicted the LUCC and ESs spatial distribution characteristics in 2050, explored the correlation between its driving factors, and comprehensively analyzed and propose optimization measures and protection strategies. Through several simulation experiments, the findings indicate the following: (1) the largest percentage of land expansion for construction in Gannan between 1990 and 2020 is 74.53%, and the most noticeable percentage of shrinkage in the sand area is 20.67%; (2) from 1990 to 2020, Gannan's water yield, carbon storage, soil retention, and habitat quality all changed, by 60 × 108 m3, 0.04 × 108 t, −10.66 × 108 t, and −0.02, respectively; (3) ESs are influenced by a variety of natural and societal variables: the southern and southwestern regions of Gannan are home to the majority of ESs hot spot areas, while the northern region is home to the majority of cold spot areas. This study contributes to the analysis of the developmental traits of Gannan ecosystems and can serve as a model for the preservation of terrestrial ecosystems with comparable environmental traits. Understanding the relationship between land use and carbon storage is vital for achieving sustainable development goals. However, our understanding of how carbon storage develops under land policy planning is still incomplete. In this study, a comprehensive framework that integrates Gray Multi-objective Optimization Programming (GMOP), the Patch-generating Land Use Simulation (PLUS) model, and the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs (InVEST) models is introduced to evaluate land use dynamics and ecosystem services. Two scenarios have been established to estimate Land Use and Land Cover Change (LUCC) patterns in the Hexi Corridor by 2035: the business-as-usual (BAU) scenario, developed based on historical trends, and the ecological conservation scenario (ECS), optimized with multiple policy objectives. The results show the following: (1) From 2000 to 2020, the predominant land use type in the Hexi Corridor was unutilized land, with LUCC mainly involving the transformation of unutilized land to grass land. (2) Carbon storage in the Hexi Corridor increased by approximately 9.05 × 106 t from 2000 to 2020 due to LUCC, characterized by higher levels in the south and lower levels in the north. (3) The areas of grass land and arable land are expected to continue increasing until 2035, while the extent of unutilized land is projected to decrease. The ECS is poised to create a balance between ecological protection and economic development. (4) By 2035, both the BAU scenario and ECS estimate an increase in the carbon storage of the Hexi Corridor, with the ECS expected to result in the most significant gains. The recycling of waste tires avoids the environmental hazards of landfills and incineration, and its application in asphalt modification achieves resource sustainability. Currently, desulfurized rubber powder (DRP) is widely used as an asphalt modifier, mainly mixed with SBS, and fewer studies have been conducted on high-dose asphalt modification with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). In this paper, DR/EVA-composite-modified asphalt (DR/EVACMA) was prepared using 20% DRP and 4% EVA by adding four additives: furfural extract oil (FEO), a crosslinking agent (DCP), a vulcanizing agent (sulfur), and a silane coupling agent (KH-550). The aim was to study the effects of different additives on the physical properties, storage stability, and rheological properties of asphalt. First, conventional physical property measurements were carried out, and the data were analyzed using a polar analysis to determine the degree of influence of the four additives and the optimal ratios. Then, the rheological properties and fatigue resistance of DR/EVACMA were investigated through temperature scanning experiments, linear amplitude scanning (LAS) experiments, and multi-stress creep (MSCR) experiments. Finally, the reaction mechanism and microscopic properties were analyzed through infrared spectroscopy experiments (FTIR) and fluorescence microscopy (FM). The results showed that FEO had the greatest effect on asphalt characteristics. Compared to matrix asphalt and additive-free asphalt, DR/EVACMA has higher physical properties, fatigue resistance, and high temperature rheological properties due to its internal crosslinking structure. China is striving to leverage the power of science and technology to green its agriculture and simultaneously enhance grain productivity. To assess the performance dynamics of the dual agricultural mission, this study presents the green growth rate of agriculture using the DEA-based Green Total Factor Productivity (GTFP) indicator, together with the growth rate of grain yields, and applies it to the case of Jiangsu, a major grain-producing province with a well-developed economy. It is found that Jiangsu's agriculture has generally performed well during the implementation of the two major national strategies addressing green development and grain security, especially in northern Jiangsu, which is a major grain-producing area. In contrast, the phased fluctuations in green growth in agriculture in southern Jiangsu are more pronounced, with negative green growth even occurring during the green agriculture movement. Much of the volatility in agricultural green growth at the provincial, subregional and municipal levels is generated by the effects of the movement of the green technology frontier, which is led by the best practitioners. Accordingly, the possibility of improving the weak state of the catch-up effect on green growth is explored from the perspective of the Chinese government-led agricultural science and innovation system; it also traces the green agricultural initiatives in the main grain-marketing areas that have failed to deliver the expected green growth, and recommends a review of such policies and a refinement of the GTFP Index tool for assessing sustainable green growth. Alexander's A Pattern Language is an important text and focuses on the theory of diverse environmental spatial sustainability. With the contemporary digital development of villages, it is urgent that village spatial patterns are analyzed in a scientific and quantitative way in order to determine heritage village diversity. The village settlements in the Diqing region are typical representatives, having a changeable terrain, being large in number, and being multi-ethnic in China; in recent years, they have also faced slow development and limited conditions. However, few studies have focused on the multiple quantitative analysis of the diverse spatial patterns of village settlements in an ethnic minority region. Therefore, this study selects 2486 village settlements in Diqing and, using KED, NNI SSIA, etc., proposes a spatial pattern analysis framework (SPAF) based on pattern language theory. According to the spatial influencing factors, spatial analysis criteria are constructed to analyze the village spatial pattern types and subtypes. The results show that the region's topographic conditions are the dominant factors that form the diversified village spatial patterns existent in the Diqing Prefecture. Among them, the dominant pattern of building villages along slopes with a small-population scale and large-dispersed settlements achieves a healthy and sustainable living environment that is oriented well, cost-saving, and conforms to nature. Meanwhile, the dominant pattern is also the reason for the inhibition of development due to inconvenient transportation and difficult management. Therefore, sustainable strategies should strike a balance between the two opposites. With the changing relationship between urban and rural areas in China, the rural areas are experiencing rapid social transformation. To ensure successful implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, land consolidation has become a major measure of rural economic reform. Existing research focuses on quantitative studies exploring the relationship between land consolidation and rural economic development, but there is a lack of studies on the relationship between land consolidation and social change. In this study, we utilized Rocha's conceptual framework for community empowerment and selected Jin'an Village as our study area, using semi-structured interviews and semi-participatory observation to obtain original materials, with the aim of providing a detailed description of the specific practice of land consolidation and analyzing the impact of land consolidation on the transformation of rural social consciousness. The study found that the participatory practices of Chinese rural villagers in the land consolidation process are consistent with the development process of community empowerment. Rural land consolidation involves villagers in the land consolidation process, which can effectively stimulate villagers' participation in public affairs. Concurrently, the interaction between villagers and outside investors disrupts the conventional socialization model in rural areas and motivates villagers to act in accordance with contractual agreements. The conclusion is that land consolidation in rural areas can enhance the political democracy and legal consciousness of local villagers, which can lead to a change in local social consciousness. Our findings also emphasize the crucial necessity of providing rural villagers with improved accessibility to professional services and information, coupled with the continued promotion of land consolidation to advance modernization in these areas. Improving local identity is the key to rural sustainable development. Facing the issue of rural hollowing and aging, rural human settlement requires targeted enhancement in conjunction with the living willingness and local identity of villagers. Firstly, this study summarizes the dynamic evolution characteristics of rural human settlement development and population contraction in Yunnan Province from 2001 to 2021, based on the "Production-Living-Ecological" theory. Secondly, the paper selects detailed survey data from 40 administrative villages in Yunnan Province in 2015, analyzes the characteristics of villagers' living visions in typical villages through questionnaire data, and constructs a comprehensive local identity index model based on multilevel living-visions to quantify the degree of villagers' identification with rural human settlement construction. Thirdly, the paper analyzes the correlation between the local identity index and the comprehensive human settlement evaluation and analyzes the factors of rural human settlement development that affect the local identity in depth. The results reveal that: (1) rural construction in Yunnan Province cannot adapt to the changing needs of villagers, and the development of rural human settlement is accompanied by a trend of relative shrinkage of the rural population. (2) The local identity index of villagers is weakly correlated with the development of rural human settlements. (3) The rural human settlement factors that influence rural local identity include a dual cohesion–centrifugal trend. The findings suggest that rural development depends on the primary and secondary relationship between cohesion and centrifugal trends, providing a reference for the coupling of rural construction and local identity and promoting the return of rural population to achieve sustainable development. This novel study investigated and proposes the use of Pycnanthus angolensis seed husk for the sequestration of Pb(II) from contaminated solutions, with the aim of contributing to the urgent need for accessibility to quality water, sustainable management of water and the environment in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The activated Pycnanthus angolensis seed husk was developed by modifying the pure sample (P-PA) with ethylene-glycol (E-PA) and Iso-butanol (I-PA). Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analyzer, thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were used to characterize the adsorbents before and after adsorption. The batch adsorption studies carried out revealed the highest adsorption of Pb(II) at pH 6 and 180 min for all the adsorbents. The functional groups, as well as the shifts in peaks after modification, were confirmed using FTIR analysis. In addition, SEM images show a heterogeneous, rough surface with sufficient cavities of the adsorbent after modification. The physiochemical characteristics indicated that BET pore volume and pore diameter increased for E-PA and I-PA compared to P-PA. The experimental data obtained indicated that Langmuir and pseudo-first-order (PFO) best described the isotherm and kinetic models, respectively. The adsorption mechanism revealed that the adsorption of Pb(II) was controlled mainly by pore filling, while electrostatic interaction, surface complexation, and ionic exchange also occurred minimally. The thermodynamic parameters, ΔH° and ΔG°, suggest an endothermic and spontaneous adsorption process, respectively. Research on the spatiotemporal changes in land use/cover (LUC) and carbon storage (CS) in the region of the Taihang Mountains in various developmental scenarios can provide significant guidance for optimizing the structure of LUC and formulating ecologically friendly economic development policies. We employed the PLUS and InVEST models to study change in LUC and CS in the Taihang Mountains from 1990 to 2020. Based on these results, we established three distinct development scenarios: a business-as-usual development scenario, a cropland protection scenario, and an ecological conservation scenario. Based on these three developmental scenarios, we simulated the spatiotemporal changes in LUC and CS in the Taihang Mountains in 2035. The results indicate that: (1) from 1990 to 2020, the CS in the Taihang Mountains increased from 1575.91 Tg to 1598.57 Tg, with a growth rate of approximately 1.44%. The primary source of this growth is attributed to the expansion of forests. (2) In the business-as-usual development scenario, the growth rate of CS in the Taihang Mountains was approximately 0.45%, indicating a slowdown in the trend. This suggests that economic development has the consequences of aggravating human–land conflicts, leading to a deceleration in the growth of CS. (3) In the cropland protection scenario, the increase in the CS in the Taihang Mountains was similar to the CS increase in the business-as-usual development scenario. However, the expansion of cropland dominated by impermeable surfaces, which indicates economic development, was considerably constrained in this scenario. (4) In the ecological conservation scenario, the increase in carbon storage in the Taihang Mountains was 1.16%, which is the fastest among all three scenarios. Carsharing is regarded as an efficient way to reduce parking difficulty and road congestion, and the sub-leasing type of round-trip carsharing is an innovative way to enhance the efficiency of carsharing. Meanwhile, with the help of sub-leasing, the turnover rate of a parking lot increases, and the parking operator can earn a certain profit when the parking lot acts as a sub-leasing station. This study aims at extending the application of sub-leasing carsharing by suggesting an integrated framework of parking and sub-leasing based on the concept of autonomous transportation systems (ATSs), which are believed to be able to correctly sense demand, give proper reactions, and reduce operator workloads. A detection approach based on this ATS-based integrated framework is proposed to identify potential sub-leasing customers from the parking users, which is the main contribution of this study. Furthermore, this detection approach was tested using Shenyang parking data, and the parking lots with the greatest potential were analyzed in detail. The results show that 48.4% of parking activities had the potential to be transformed into sub-leasing activities. This study used porous nanomaterials MCM-41 and SBA-15, as well as their modified species, to remove lead and cadmium ions from water. We used X-ray diffraction (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), and the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) method to investigate the characteristics of porous nanomaterials. Additionally, atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) measured the concentration of lead and cadmium ions. The stratigraphic analysis showed the samples' isothermal shape to be type IV. This study investigated the amount, absorbent, pH changes, and adsorption time parameters. We observed that the adsorption efficiency of lead by the synthesized samples was higher than that of the adsorption of cadmium. Mesoporous structures also displayed increased adsorption efficiency due to the amino group. Four testing stages were conducted to determine the reproducibility of the adsorption by the synthesized samples, with the results showing no significant changes. As a result of the adsorption process, the structure of the recycled sample N H 2 - M C M - 41 was preserved. We also used artificial neural networks (ANN) to propose predictive models based on the experimental results. With the intensification of population aging in rural areas, it becomes increasingly important to analyze the post-retirement migration intention of rural residents and the variables influencing these intentions. However, there is a lack of research on this point. In this study, we focused on rural residents aged 45 to 60 and used the logistic regression model to investigate the demographic and personal variables influencing their post-retirement migration intention. The data used in this study were collected from one hundred sixty-four households in three rural areas of Inner Mongolia in 2011. From the results of this study, we found that gender, part-time employment, savings level, children's residence and occupational stability, and interest in urban living positively affect migration intention. In contrast, the number of rural close friends, relationships with others in rural areas, and evaluation of rural living all have negative effects. In addition, we employed age and the proportion of mobile income as control variables to examine the variables that influence the post-retirement migration intention in different age groups and mobile income groups. The analysis reveals that the variables influencing post-retirement migration intention varied across age groups and mobile income groups, and this variation can be attributed to the differences between groups' characteristics. In recent years, with the intensification of climate change, the occurrence of heavy rain events has become more frequent. Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have become one of the common geological disasters around the world. This study selects an extreme rainfall event in August 2018 in Jiexi County, Guangdong province, as the research object. Based on high-resolution remote sensing images before and after the event, visual interpretation is conducted to obtain a detailed distribution map of rainfall-induced landslides. The results show that a total of 1844 rainfall-induced landslides were triggered within Jiexi County during this rainfall event. In terms of triggered scale, the total area of the landslides is 3.3884 million m2, with the largest individual landslide covering an area of 22,300 m2 and the smallest one covering an area of 417.78 m2. The landslides are concentrated in the northeastern, central, and southwestern parts of the study area, consistent with the distribution trend of rainfall intensity. To investigate further the influence of the regional environment on landslide distribution, this study selects eight influencing factors, including elevation, slope aspect, slope angle, topographic wetness index (TWI), topographic relief, lithology, distance to river, and accumulated rainfall. The landslide number density (LND) and landslide area percentage (LAP) are used as evaluation indicators. Based on statistical analysis using a data analysis platform, the relationship between landslide distribution and influencing factors triggered by this event is revealed. The results of this study will contribute to understanding the development law of regional rainfall-induced landslides and provide assistance for disaster prevention and mitigation in the area. The research results show that the elevation range of 100–150 m is the high-risk zone for landslides. In addition, this study has verified previous findings that slopes in the southeast direction are more prone to landslides. The steeper the slope, the more significant its influence on landslide development. When the topographic wetness index (TWI) is less than 4, landslides tend to have a high-density distribution. Greater variation in terrain relief is more likely to trigger landslides. The instability of lithology in Mesozoic strata is the main cause of landslides. Modular impact-resistant metamaterials inspired by burr puzzles were recently proposed to combine flexibility, efficiency and adaptivity, which were also beneficial for sustainability in engineering protection. However, the optimal design remains to be explored and the mean stress cannot be effectively estimated. To break these limits, a stiffness-enhanced strategy is implemented to enhance the crashworthiness, and the relation between the mechanical behavior of metamaterials and locking points is revealed. The average thickness of all modules in the metamaterial is denoted by tave, and the thickness ratio of axially loaded to laterally loaded modules is denoted by y. From the experimental and simulation results, the mean stress of the metamaterials significantly increases with tave and y, while the deformation mode is gradually transformed into an inefficient global buckling mode and impairs the crashworthiness when ψ ≥ 4 . ψ = 3 can be taken as the optimal design of metamaterials, which can increase the specific energy absorption SEA, energy absorption efficiency h and mean stress sm, respectively, by 62.4%, 44.2% and 57.6% compared to the regular design ( ψ = 1 ). On this basis, we develop a universe method to estimate the mean stress of the metamaterials with a relative error less than 9.6%, and a guideline for their design and application in engineering fields is summarized. A geostress field continuously evolves with long-term tectonic activity. A fault, as a general product of tectonic movements, has a great influence on the geostress field in the vicinity. To analyze the geostress field characteristics and influencing factors near the fault fracture zone in high-altitude areas, this study takes the Dianda-Piru fault on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau as its research object. Based on the geological conditions and in situ stress measurement data in the study area, a refined numerical model was established using numerical simulation to invert the geostress field in the vicinity of the fault fracture zone, and a quantitative analysis of the factors influencing the geostress distribution was carried out. The results show that the overall relationship between large horizontal principal stress σH, vertical stress σv, and small horizontal principal stress σh is σH > σv > σh, and the surrounding rock stress is dominated by horizontal stress. Geostress is released within the fault fracture zone to a certain extent, and there is a certain degree of stress concentration within the intact rock mass on the upper plate of the fault. The elastic modulus has a greater influence on the geostress field near the fracture structure area than Poisson's ratio, and the range of the stress-weakening zone increases with the decrease in the elastic modulus. The maximum principal stress inside the fault increases with the increase in the angle between the fault strike and regional principal stress, while the deflection angle of the surrounding principal stress direction decreases with the increase in this angle. The study of the distribution law of geostress fields with developed fracture structures can provide theoretical guidance for the sustainable development of engineering construction in tectonically active areas. The urban carbon administration discussion is becoming dominant in the carbon emission reduction landscape. China, the world's paramount carbon emitter, has instituted a series of policies geared towards carbon emissions reduction. The co-dependent nature of these policies becomes paramount in outlining accurate and comprehensive evaluation results. This research scrutinizes the effect of various policy mixtures on curbing urban carbon emissions, utilizing the Tapio decoupling elasticity coefficient and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) techniques. The consistencies surpass the widely accepted theoretical threshold of 0.8, and each configuration can explain 14.3% to 19.8% of the sample. The findings reveal that industrial and energy policies drive the decoupling of urban carbon emissions in three of four configurations. Management-based policies merely play an auxiliary role, while social and economic policies have yet to exhibit significant implications. As an important means of farmland policy, whether land transfer can promote agricultural green transformation is worthy of further study; however, related research is relatively rare. Based on the inter-provincial panel data from 2005 to 2020, this paper examines the influence of land transfer on agricultural green transformation and its underlying mechanism by using a two-way fixed effect model and an intermediary effect model. This study reveals significant findings as follows: (1) Land transfer substantially promotes agricultural green transformation. (2) Energy consumption is a major contributor to the growth of agricultural carbon emissions; however, land transfer can mitigate this by reducing energy consumption. (3) Land transfer can promote agricultural green transformation by fostering agricultural technology progress. (4) Further analysis reveals that land transfer in economically developed areas and the southeastern side of the "Hu-Huanyong Line" significantly enhances agricultural green transformation. Based on these findings, this paper suggests promoting land transfer while considering regional differences. This research study aimed to assess the influence of different particle sizes of crumb rubber modifier on phase separation when mixed with virgin asphalt binder (PG 64-22). Both Superpave and multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR) tests were conducted to determine the optimal particle size. Three sizes of crumb-rubber particles (≤0.5 mm, ≤1 mm, and 1–2 mm) were individually incorporated into the binder at a weight proportion of 10%. The findings revealed that an increase in particle size resulted in higher viscosity, which reduced workability. However, the use of particles with a size of ≤0.5 mm effectively decreased viscosity. Furthermore, larger particle sizes enhanced resistance to rutting and improved the lifespan of the pavement. Multiple shear creep recovery (MSCR) tests confirmed that larger crumb-rubber particles exhibited a higher load-bearing capacity. Additionally, phase separation studies demonstrated that larger particle sizes were associated with increased phase separation. Notably, particles with a size of ≤0.5 mm performed exceptionally well in reducing phase separation across all combinations. In conclusion, crumb-rubber particles with a size of ≤0.5 mm were identified as the most effective in minimizing phase separation when blended with virgin asphalt binder. These findings provide solid scientific evidence related to the effects of crumb-rubber particles on the storage stability of rubberized asphalt binder and have significant implications for future research in this field. Given the freezing temperatures and extended winters, heating is essential for residents living in Northeast China. When selecting the optimum heating mode for the region, various factors are taken into consideration, such as the impact on the environment, financial cost and energy consumption. However, it is uncertain which heating mode can fulfill all conditions and requirements. In this study, seven heating modes were selected from the national and northeastern heating strategies. A comprehensive index system based on the life cycle theory was developed from the perspectives of energy, the environment, the economy, technology and society. Additionally, a comprehensive evaluation of the seven heating modes was performed using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and gray relation analysis. The results of this research showed that, from a complete standpoint, the ground-source heat pump heating mode (HMg) had the best comprehensive benefit, with a correlation of 0.8173, followed by the coal-fired cogeneration heating mode (HMcc), which had the highest correlation degree among the centralized heating modes at 0.6111. Based on the findings of our thorough examination, a recommended scheme made up of HMg, HMcc, the electro-thermal membrane heating mode (HMef), the natural gas boiler room regional central heating mode (HMgrc) and the natural gas boiler room decentralized heating mode (HMgrd) was established. One of the significant problems of planet Earth is related to food production and consumption. This paper evaluates the role of the tourism sector in generating food waste as well as its potential to drive sustainability. Tackling food loss and waste is acknowledged as urgent, both for the people and the planet. Food waste is particularly problematic in industrialised regions, impeding the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals. Although most of the wasted food originates in households, the contribution of the tourism sector is still relevant. A multidisciplinary reflection is thus carried out to assess the impacts of tourism on food production and consumption, linking them with cultural landscapes. By taking the UK as a case study, common problems of the sector are exposed, including dealing with food that remains uneaten, and the need to accurately assess food waste. Data gaps and guidance in measuring food waste are discussed, and suggestions for mitigating this issue include increasing food literacy, reducing food demand, and implementing sustainability business awards. Initiatives such as zero-waste restaurants are paving the way for mainstream changes in reducing food waste, thereby addressing climate change, increasing food availability and helping to alleviate hunger and malnutrition worldwide. This paper presents the design of geosynthetic reinforced flexible pavements and their modification by incorporating waste materials into bonded and unbonded layers of the pavement structure. The optimal design of flexible pavements was achieved by minimizing the construction cost of the pavement. The incorporation of waste materials into the pavement structure affects the material properties. Therefore, along with the traffic load, the effects of the material properties of the asphalt concrete, base layer, sub-base layer, and subgrade were analyzed in terms of pavement structure costs and CO2 emissions of materials used in pavement construction. In addition, a comparison was made between pavements with and without geosynthetic reinforcement in terms of design, optimum construction cost, and CO2 emissions. The use of geosynthetics is even more effective in pavement structures that contain waste materials in an unbound layer, both in terms of cost and CO2 emissions. The minimum value of the California Bearing Ratio of the subgrade was determined at which the use of geosynthetic reinforcement for pavement structure with and without the inclusion of waste materials is economically and sustainably justified. The use of geosynthetics could result in a 15% reduction in pavement structure cost and a 9% reduction in CO2 emissions due to the reduced thickness of unbound layers. In addition, reducing the CBR of the unbound layer from 100% to 30% due to the inclusion of waste materials implies a cost increase of up to 13%. While the present study is based on an empirical pavement design method in which pavement thickness is limited by the pavement thickness index, the same minimum thicknesses are obtained in the optimization process regardless of whether the objective function is the minimum construction cost or minimum CO2 emissions. Rail transportation has dramatically improved travel convenience, but it has also led to environmental pollution and energy consumption issues. These challenges can be partially addressed by reducing friction loss in the mechanical transmission of rail systems. This paper examines the tribological properties of bionic-textured surfaces inspired by snake- and sharkskin. This study focuses on generating bionic textured surfaces with randomly distributed peaks through numerical simulation and connecting them to a transient Reynolds equation and friction fatigue model. The bionic surface wear lubrication model considers the lubricating film's thickness and contact pressure obtained from the GT model. The results reveal that the existence of a bionic texture can reduce the friction coefficient and wear amount on the contact surface. The findings of this study not only offer a potential solution for reducing energy consumption and emissions in intelligent rail transit systems but also hold promise for providing further insights into the numerical simulation of bionic weaving and the investigation of tribological characteristics. Microwave heating is an effective method to achieve autonomic crack healing in asphalt mixtures, and the use of microwave-absorbing materials can largely improve this healing efficiency. As a solid waste, coal gangue contains metal oxides, which shows the possibility of microwave heating. In order to further promote the application of coal gangue in the microwave healing of asphalt mixtures, this study looks into the synergistic effect of basalt and coal gangue powder (CGP) on the microwave heating self-healing of an asphalt mixture. The mechanical performance, water stability, low-temperature crack resistance and microwave healing efficiency of the asphalt mixture were investigated using the immersion Marshall test, standard Marshall test, Cantabro test and semi-circular bending (SCB), and healing tests, respectively. The results indicated that the addition of CGP in asphalt mixture can improve the microwave heating speed, which also showed a significant advantage in water stability and fracture energy recovery.
