Bei der in Teilen öffentlich zugänglichen, begeh- und erfahrbaren medizinischen Großforschungsanlage :envihab wurde in vorbildlicher Weise Glas eingesetzt. Das fein ausgewogene Verhältnis des transparenten Baustoffes zur massiven Hülle stellt einen anregenden Kontrast her. Das Glas erscheint als integraler Bestandteil und im besten Sinne entmaterialisiert, leicht und diaphan wie die Haut einer Zelle. Glas wird, dies ist so einfach wie selbstverständlich, eingesetzt, da es DER transparente Baustoff ist, und kein anderer Stoff so wie dieser Licht transmittiert. Neben der Schutzfunktion muss jedes Gebäude Licht, Luft und sonstige Ver- und Entsorgungsdienste etwa über die Haustechnik bereitstellen, für :envihab als Forschungslabor gilt dies im Besonderen. :envihab - German Aerospace Center, Institute of Aerospace Medicine. Die Gebäudehüllen des Louvre Lens in Nordfrankreich vereinen nicht nur höchste gestalterische und materielle Anforderungen, sondern reagieren auch auf die strukturellen und bauphysikalischen Besonderheiten der schlanken, eingeschossigen Museumsbauten. Insbesondere die hohen Herausforderungen in der Planung der verglasten Gebäudehüllen werden beschrieben und die während des siebenjährigen Prozesses entwickelten Lösungsansätze erläutert. Louvre Lens - Simplicity and Complexity. The building envelopes of the Louvre museum in Lens in Northern France combine highest aesthetic and material requirements. They respond to the structural and physical characteristics of the slender single-storey buildings. The façade engineering of the envelopes will be described with regard to the high requirements and to the seven year process from scratch to inauguration, with main focus on the glazed parts. Acrylglas ist in der industrialisierten Welt allgegenwärtig, als Baumaterial ist es Architekten, Fassadenplanern und Ingenieuren dennoch fremd. Die Autoren konnten in den Jahren des digitalen Aufbruchs immer wieder unkonventionelle Glas- und Acrylglas-Projekte auf der Ingenieurseite betreuen. Dieser Aufsatz soll anhand des jüngsten Projektes, der Fassade an der Vitra VSL Factory von SANAA Architekten aufzeigen, welche Potenziale das Material insbesondere im Zusammenwirken mit einer innovativen Klebetechnik hat. In the industrialized world, acrylic glass is omnipresent, however as material for building components it is rarely known by architects and engineers. During the years of the digital revolution, the authors could gather experience in engineering of numerous free form glass and acrylic facades and envelopes. By presentation of their work for the most recent project, the Vitra VSL Factory façade by SANAA Architects, the authors show the potential as well as the constraints of the work with silicone-bonded acrylic glass.
