Abstract

The article explores the best treatment for nonsurgical neck pain. According to the authors, quality-adjusted life expectancy associated with standard nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), exercise, mobilization and manipulation were compared in a decision analytic model. They explain that the difference between the highest and lowest ranked treatments was 4.5 days of life expectancy and 3.4 quality-adjusted life-days.

Abstract

The article highlights the best evidence synthesis of literature on the prevalence and incidence of neck pain and disability in workers. According to the authors, neck disorders are a significant source of pain and activity limitation in workers. The authors add that most neck pain results from a complex relationship between individual and workplace risk factors. They also mention that no prevention strategies have been shown to reduce the incidence of neck pain in workers.

The article highlights the best evidence synthesis of the published evidence on the burden and determinants of neck pain and its associated disorders. According to the authors, out of 469 articles, 249 were scientifically admissible and 100 were related to the burden and determinants of neck pain in the general population. The authors add that nonmodifiable risk factors include age, gender and genetics, and modifiable factors include smoking, exposure to tobacco and psychological health.

Abstract

The article compares the results on the effectiveness of exercise for workers with neck pain vary with the Cochrane Back Review Group Guidelines ad best-evidence synthesis. It reveals that review results and conclusions are sensitive to methods for appraising trial quality into data synthesis when the evidence consists largely of low-quality trials. Both the Cochrane Back Review Group Guidelines and best-evidence synthesis have strengths and methodological weaknesses.
